The perfect gift for every occasion

  • Welcome to the Gryphon House
The fireplace in Riverview, our Arts & Crafts themed room, which has a view of the Charles River. Riverview has a large marble bathroom with glass shower stall and a deep Kohler tub.
Suiting its name, Tuscany, on the 2nd floor, offers a warm, inviting ambience. The large marble bathroom has decorated fixtures, a deep tub and a glass enclosed shower.
Morningside always seems to be drenched in sunshine! With an offset sleeping area, and separate closet and dressing area, you'll enjoy the spacious accommodations, even when it rains.
Sanctuary offers just that, with a gas log "wood stove", cozy sitting area, and neo-Gothic decorative touches. The unit is on the ground floor, very private, and has a single bed in addition to the queen bed. Sanctuary is our only suite with a full kitchen, as well.
A view of North Tower, looking away from "the view", which is a spectacular one, featuring a large picture window overlooking the Charles River! This photo shows the kitchenette/dining area, the corner fireplace, and looking past the closet "wall", into the bedroom area. The main living area has two comfy chairs by the windows, and a daybed that makes into 2 single beds when needed.
A corner of our main parlor with a gryphon posing before a handmade Victorian lampshade.
Here's a detail, above our sideboard, of our unbelievable Zuber wallpaper mural, which wraps most of the first and second floor common areas! The 1848 design is called 'El Dorado' and depicts the flora and fauna of 4 continents. The same design is in the Cooper Hewitt Design Musuem in NYC, and it's been featured in Architectural Digest and Art & Antiques.
Here's another detail of Sanctuary, which shows the single bed and the kitchen area.

Gryphon House is the best B&B Ever!

    March 18, 2011

I was looking for a place to stay in Boston when I was going on college tours with my daughter. Gryphon House was in the same price range as some of the local hotels that didn't have the greatest reviews. Gryphon House looked very attractive on the website, but I never get my hopes up too high, because I have been to some B&B's that look great on the website, but disappoint in person. In this case, however, reality was better than the photos! The room was huge, and so nicely appointed. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious. And you can't beat the location. I hope my daughter will to go BU or Northeastern just so I would have a reason to stay at Gryphon House on a regular basis. Since we are from California, Boston is not a place that we just happen to pass through!

Our favourite place to stay in Boston

    February 01, 2010

What a find......... we have tried three of the rooms and loved them all. We were in Boston for Red Sox games and concerts at Fenway Park and it is the ideal place to stay for a short or longer visit to this great city. The staff are so friendly and breakfast is great whether in the lounge or in your room, very relaxed and a great way to spend your Sunday am. We will be back again soon.

Clean, Cozy, Creative.. And Great Location!

    January 02, 2010

I have stayed here two years in a row (2 nights each time), and had a great experience. The inn is extremely clean. A variety of complimentary services are provided, including laundry, breakfast, computer use, wireless internet, as well as borrowing books and dvds. Additional services are provided for a charge, such as an in-room massage. The inn offers a variety of different themed suites, each with individual (and very detailed) decor. Clearly, a lot of attention and creativity was invested in designing the suites. Also, each room offers a fireplace, as well as great views of the Charles River or the Boston streetscape. The innkeepers were extremely friendly, and willing to help make the experience the best it could be. In terms of location - the inn is located about 2-3 minutes (walking) from the subway, and about 5-7 minutes (driving) from Downtown Boston. The surrounding area is very scenic! Parking is available on the premises(for an additional charge). The only drawback is that the walls are somewhat thin, in case you are concerned with being too noisy, or being disturbed by other guests' noisiness. Considering the price, cleanliness, services offered, and location, I would strongly recommend the Gryphon House.

Recommended as great and cozy place to relax

    January 02, 2010

Over the New Year holiday, I had the pleasure of staying at this location. I'd stayed there the year prior and was impressed enough to come back. The Gryphon House is in a great location, only a 2 min walk from the train station and 15 min. from Downtown. What l like about the distance is that it's close enough to all the great action of downtown Boston but you don't have to bring it home. The staff at the inn is so warm and helpful. Teresa welcomed me, and escorted me to the super clean Riverview room even though I arrived later than I intended. After a brief tutorial on how to operate the fireplace and individual room temp. controls, I was all set to jump onto the ample amounts of comforters placed onto queen size bed w/ big, sturdy wooden frame. The bathroom was also great, with a shower separated from a big bathtub. What I liked about the shower was that it was a lot of water pressure and felt really good. More impressive than the bathroom was the great view of the Charles River. You're literally 50ft. from it and its amazing from the window. I spent at least 15min just looking at it when I first got there. Upon opening the door to leave my room, I found that Theresa had left one more big blanket for me "just in case". What I like most about the Gryphon House is the little things like extra blankets being given without being asked or the complimentary DVD library from which you can borrow. You can really see all the TLC that went into the inn overall. Parking is a bit cumbersome though, because it's in the back of the inn with other parked cars. It can be a little bit tight but it's nothing compared to what's going on inside. Overall, I had such a great time there and I can't wait to go back again.

    Excellent place!

    June 27, 2009

This was an excellent place for a weeks stay. There was huge attention to detail - for example, bedside lights on both sides of the bed, a very effective shower, a large fridge, etc. Staff could not have been more helpful, from telling us we need not check in until the morning, when we arrived shattered after a 24 hour journey, offerintg maps, umbrellas and fans whenever required, and generally letting us feel nothing was too much trouble. \breakfasts were in the same spirit - very generously done. Thank you everyone!
