4.8 out of 5A Little Piece of Heaven
August 13, 2012
Our Woodlawn experience was beyond our expectations, charming, warm and relaxing only begin to describe our getaway. Immediately we were taken with the beauty and serenity of the property itself, it is the historic manor house is gorgeous and peaceful water view is captivating. Our warm and welcoming host invited us to a glass of wine upon our arrival (bonus, Slack Winery is on the property) which turned into an impromptu wine tasting. There were events at the winery a couple of evenings with live music, which we thoroughly enjoyed, breakfast was fabulous, our stay was so rejuvenating, we extended an extra night, and fortunately the charming Magnolia suite was available.
4.2 out of 5Staying at Woodlawn is a real treat!

We stayed in the cottage, which is not historic but the gorgeous view of the water, the excellent hospitality, music, wildlife, kayaking and huge night time stars, made this stay memorable. We can't wait to come back! --Ingrid & Mark
3.0 out of 5Setting is magnficent

The setting on the water is magnificent; it is very quiet and peaceful. Some small incidentals had to be requested, service at breakfast was slow, but overall it was a good stay, and I would highly recommend it.

A true gem of a bed and breakfast, we stayed here with 3 generations of our family, and all of us were happy just relaxing on the beautiful property and in the good company of the staff, guests and owners. The inn is beautifully kept and the rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. We spent the majority of our trip kayaking, fishing, and relaxing outside in the garden and yard. A wonderful, fresh breeze off the water makes the shade beneath the trees a perfect spot to idle. The breakfast was delicious, and the owners provide a spectacular wine-tasting event in the evenings, featuring wines produced by their son in their own orchards. The wine-tasting is the nicest I have ever experienced, with each wine being well-paired with an Hors d'oeuvre. We could not have asked for a nicer retreat from the hectic life-style of the DC/Baltimore region, and all in a 2 hour drive. We met several kind guests and the whole experience was fantastic. We will certainly be returning to this home, and though the selfish part of me wants to hide this special place for myself, it is impossible not to return the great service we were given by informing others of how nice it is too. Thanks Jim and Maggie.

5 out of 5another great stay at Woodlawn!
August 16, 2011
As always, Jim's gracious hospitality made our getaway a delight. The waterfront view is exquisite, and the jacuzzi felt so delightful after our outing of paddling with Woodlawn's kayaks. For dinner you might try Courtney's seafood...casual and quirky, but delicious!
5 out of 5The "Outstanding Weekend Getaway"
April 08, 2011
Innkeeper Jim Grube was the perfect host for our getaway anniversary weekend. He was able to accommodate a late arrival and special dietary restrictions. The fresh pineapple and berries was a nice culinary touch to the grilled mushrooms over light quiche, accompanied by specially prepared juice. Extra value is their wine tasting in a unique 1700's replica "cottage" atmoshphere and their own line of wines by the label, "Slack." Jim was also most knowledgeable about the history of the property, surrounding areas, and places of interest and dining. To add to the perfect weekend, an eagle came to land overhead, just outside our cottage door! Wood ducks performed an eloquent "disappearing act" as they submerged for their meal in the creek, while simultaneously we enjoyed our breakfast and viewed them through the large window bay. The perfect setting for a quiet piece of "slack time." This first visit convinced us to return again!
