Somerset House

Lovely old home, very friendly and helpful hosts, and wonderful breakfasts.

We spent three wonderful days at the Somerset House, using it as a base to tour Somerset and Worcester Counties. Our trip was made at the last minute and although we booked for two nights, it was so wonderful we extended for an extra night. Jay and Deborah are charming, welcoming and attentive hosts who engage their guests in interesting conversation while serving up iced tea in the beautifully manicured garden and a surprise each day for breakfast. Our room and the entire house is a treasure trove of history and antiques. We can not speak highly enough of this lovely b and b experience.

This B&B has it all -- history (built by John Crisfield), beautiful gardens, excellent breakfast, charming rooms, and delightful hosts. You must ask Jay to share his travel stories from around the world. Princess Anne is centrally located for easy day trips to Tangier and Smith Islands, Snow Hill, and Furnaceville.

We stayed three nights at Somerset House and immediately felt at home. The hosts, Jay and Deborah Parker, provided a welcoming and comfortable visit together with enthusiasm and knowledge about the Eastern Shore, mouth watering breakfasts in the beautiful dining room, wine in the parlor, large bedrooms with private bath, boxwood gardens, and a key to the front door!

We recently spent an evening at Somerset House in Princess Anne, Maryland and enjoyed it very much. Make sure to ask about the history of the buildings and gardens and take time to admire the antiques and art. Also, they have a wonderful (world class) book collection and are happy to provide a book mailer so guests an finish reading a book they borrow and then send it back.

Having scurried the world for a first-cut B&B we found it almost in our own backyard in quaint Princess Ann. Jay and Deborah, just by themselves, are a world-class chef, inspiring pianist, storied racontieur, font of local knowledge and trivia, and born host, all rolled into two. You will not, in this lifetime, do better.

Deborah teaches AP English, Jay plays the piano, and both bring good conversation and wit with the sumptuous breakfasts (think homemade blueberry syrup with your waffle). Bring your bikes, Jay knows the trails. We have been guests three times and plan to go back.

Accomodations are great, but the hosts are what makes this place really special. Jay loves to meet new people and is very interesting to talk with. If you want information, he will give you as much or as little as you want. Deborah is delightful as well, but your disappointment in not seeing her very much is definitely outweighed by her fantastic cooking.
