Morning Glory Inn

The Morning Glory Inn is an 11, and once you discover it, you will return. Often. Proprietors Bonnie and Bill have nurtured the inn and grounds into a gorgeous, picturesque, quaint, peaceful paradise amongst the flowers and trees just inland from the Maine coastline and tidal marshes. The location allows it to be calm and cool yet is within bicycle distance of the historic harbor town. The inn is spacious with plenty of common areas for relaxation - the original living room is great for lounging by the fire on chilly or rainy days; the main gathering room is another super comfy lounging area with a bar and wood stove; the library in the loft provides a hideaway; and there are several tables on the front patio amid the garden. Each room is unique, but all are so well appointed I believe that Bonnie and Bill must live in each during off season to ensure that each room has all the little touches that make it totally livable! I know because I have stayed in every room at least once - which tells you that I am among their many loyal repeat visitors. Coffee and teas are yours for the pouring all morning, and a tasty feast of fresh local produce and baked goods accompany the hot breakfast. But for as wonderful as the Inn is, Bonnie and Bill are the real treats. They are consummate professionals, yet are friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Staying at the Morning Glory Inn is like staying with favorite family that ensure your visit is comfortable while allowing you to go off on your own adventures during the day!

A stroke of serendipity! On the spur of the moment we decided to find a B&B in the York, ME area and to our joy we discovered this Inn. We had just one night to stay and luckily they had just one room available, the Sandpiper. A beautiful Inn, with lovely gardens, situated on a quiet street. The accommodations were delightful, breakfast was delicious, and we will definitely be back for a longer stay.

A wonderful, wooded setting close to beach; rooms have private deck off them to enjoy; multiple sitting areas in a beautifully beamed home that is very tastefully decorated; Innkeepers are so kind and helpful; we loved the beaches of York and got a chance to kayak on the ocean. Breakfast was very good, and enjoyed brick patio setting next to flowers. Spent two days here and would definately come back.

Morning Glory has everything we look for in a B & B. Innkeepers Bill & Bonnie were great and went out of their way to make us feel at home. The grounds are beautiful and I enjoyed being able to sit outside and enjoy my morning coffee on the porch. Breakfast was tasty, ample parking, quiet surroundings and you felt very much at home. Innkeepers, Bonnie and Bill Alstrom have created "a hidden yet sparkling B&B jewel" at their lovely bed & breakfast, The Morning Glory Inn in York, Maine. Even the journey to this wonderful bed & breakfast is memorable. As you turn off Route 1A and travel onto the beautifully winding Organaug Road you travel under a canopy of aged hardwood trees and pass through the York Golf and Tennis Club (Maine’s oldest country club) and across the quaint Sewall Bridge – looking for the two stone pillars that mark the entrance of The Morning Glory. Yet York Harbor is only ½ mile and a world away from the inn’s tranquil setting. The Morning Glory is an amazingly comfortable retreat along Maine’s Southern coast. All three accommodations (“The Sandpiper,” Rachel’s Suite” and “The Heron”) in this newly renovated Pre-Revolutionary, post and beam cottage home are equally luxurious. Each ocean bird-themed suite has its own private deck overlooking lush forest and manicured gardens. We stayed in “The Heron” suite and loved it! It is large and spacious with a walk-in closet in the middle. The newly remodeled bathroom is as wonderful as described on the inn’s website. You will simply adore the tile, glass and river rock dual-headed shower. Innekeepers Bill and Bonnie act as your own “in-house concierge” and will plan personally-selected day itineraries of the immediate York area and surrounding Southern coast of Maine. This inn property should be featured in Coastal Living, Country Living and Country Home magazines. Not only does the beautiful woodland setting take your breath away, but, the immaculate and charming B&B, complimented by the warm hospitality of the Bonnie and Bill, made The Morning Glory Inn our favorite new bed and breakfast find of our 2009 Maine vacation.

From the moment we arrived we were feeling like we were home away from home for the weekend. Room was beautiful, hosts were always accomodating and the grounds were relaxing gardens. Close to all the touristy places but just far enough away on old Route 1 to enjoy the unhurried quiet.

We needed a few days to take a break and Morning Glory Inn provided a perfect arrangement. We really felt at home in this well appointed small Inn and the excellent breakfast was a great way to start the day and just unwind. We enjoyed the location being out of the vacation "frensy" area but still close to great places to visit. We will certainly visit once again. This small Inn is very charming and the Inn keepers were friendly and accommodating. Bill was sure to make any reservations that were requested and made great recommendations for dinners in around the area. It's very obvious that the owners are good gardeners for the floral ambiance is simply well done.

By far the best Inn we have ever stayed at. Bonnie and Bill have created a perfect getaway with beautiful grounds, comfortable beds, and a great breakfast to start the day. The inn is conveniently located for our trips to the beach, shopping and dining. Our 6 night stay felt like we'd been away for a month because the setting is so comfortable and relaxing. We can't wait until our next visit.

Morning Glory Inn was an unexpected delight, which we were lucky enough to find on 3 days notice. Wonderful ambiance, friendly guests and Bonnie & Bill bending over backwards to make sure we were comfortable. Nice touches like no charge long distance to anywhere in the USA, snacks in our room, immaculately kept rooms and common rooms. We hope to return again.

This inn was by far one of the best we have stayed at over many years.

It isn't very often that you can get away for a weekend and have everything be perfect but that is what a weekend at the Morning Glory Inn had is store for us. From the very tastefully decorated rooms to the wonderful breakfast and grounds Bonnie and Bill did a wonderful job of meeting our needs. We had a bit of rain and a little cool when we arrived (the story for this summer in New England) and Bill was kind enough to start a fire for us where we spent the next few hours enjoying the fire and a glass of wine. The sign of a good Inn is answered with two questions " would you go back" ? and "would you recommend it to a friend" ? and the answer to both is a resounding yes. Thanks folks we will be back.

Our recent stay at the Morning Glory exceeded our wevery expectation. Bonnie and Bill have created an environment which surrounds them and their guests with beauty.

Just right in every respect- charming room and public spaces, attention to detail, warm welcome, tasty breakfast with good, fresh ingredients and choice. We'd happily return!

What a perfect way to celebrate a birthday! This was our first time staying at a B&B and it was fabulous!! My husband and I loved the place - our room was nice and sunny, very cozy! And the house is so warm and inviting! Breakfast was delicious and Bill was a very gracious host. Location is perfect - it was very easy to find. We hope to return soon!

Bonnie and Bill have created a lovely, inviting inn. This was a very fortunate find as the rooms are cozy, each decorated in a different style, the common rooms available for guests are lovely. The innkeepers have are very adept at creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for their guests, right down to the fire going in the fireplace! Breakfasts are really quite outstanding. The location of the Morning Glory Inn is such that it gives you the feeling of being tucked in and out of the way of the madding crowd, the gardens add to that feeling as well. There is wonderful walking right out the door.

Bonnie and Bill were wonderful. The room (Rachel's suite) was fabulous and pictureque. Furnishings and ammenties were top quality. Breakfast was "extraordinary". We enjoyed the blueberry French Toast and scrambled eggs. And you can not forget to mention the wonderful coffee. The home was very inviting, cozy for our wonderful, rainy weekend stay. We look forward to our next visit in November and many more times after that. Thank you again Bonnie and Bill.

My husband and I spent a week here in August, staying in Rachel's Suite. We loved everything about it. The Inn is beautiful and comfortable, without that "over the top" feeling that you get at some B & Bs. The room was sunny and spacious, with the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in away from home. The breakfasts were delicious, and we appreciated the fact that you could have breakfast until 10 a.m. Bonnie and Bill were exceptionally gracious hosts, always willing to provide help and information; by the time we left we felt like they were friends. We loved the York area and the inn's location, an easy drive to everything but quiet and peaceful. We've stayed at a lot of B & Bs, and this one is now our favorite. It was hard to leave!

The Morning Glory Inn is a jewel: exquisite; intimate and serene. Eating breakfast in the garden was a truly special way to start the day.

This inn and its hosts are absolutely delightful. Breakfasts were delicious, the room was spacious and clean and bright, the innkeepers are friendly and eager to help with anything. My partner and I could not imagine a better place to have spent our summer vacation week.

This has to be the best B&B along the Wast Coast from the Keys up to Bar Harbor. Morning Glory proved to live up to its name and the hosts made us feel like we had come home. Their attention to detail is unmatched and the atmosphere and space they've created is simply lovely.

We discovered the Morning Glory in August when Portsmouth was booked. Since then at least one of us stays three nights every month while in the area for business. The location is terrific but surpassed by the hospitality and ambience. We've even taken over the whole place at times, but when not, the most interesting people are booked or just happen to find their way to the door. We can't wait for Bill & Bonnie to reopen in the Spring!

The house itself is spacious and beautiful—an 18th Century house with a 20th Century addition. All in complete harmony. The bedroom was a treat, as were the fireplaces, living rooms and the full breakfast. We will return to the hidden treasure!

Our search for a B&B on the East Coast brought us to the Morning Glory Inn. What a find! Great quiet location, loved our room decor, and the best hosts ever. Four nights of complete relaxation in this beautiful bed and breakfast. May make the trip all the way from Wisconsin to stay here again.

Beautiful rooms, loved the river-rock floor of the shower and serene patio all provided for a perfect getwat only an hour from Boston.

Absolutely the BEST. Immaculate, spacious and well appointed guest rooms. It is a most relaxing environment in which one feels so taken care of. The breakfast is like none other. Bonnie and Bill are the ULTIMATE hosts and love to share their home which is an incredible place. We love being there and after each visit...can't wait to return!

The innkeepers made our three night visit seem like a week's vacation. The setting is peaceful and relaxing and the rooms and grounds are beautiful. We stayed in the Heron which is spacious and elegantly decorated with a spa-like bathroom. The bed was so comfortable. The breakfast was great and the coffee a special treat and good way to start the day. We'll go back many times and will try their other rooms which are all beautiful. We've already booked a week in August. A very special place with innkeepers who are attentive yet also respect the privacy of their guests.

Our stay at the morning glory inn was just what we needed to unwind and relax from busy city life. After a long weekend stay the stress of everyday life had slowly faded to distant memory...hard to imagine we were just an hour from Boston. The bed was excellent, decor was beautiful, the room was impeccably clean and the Inn keepers friendly and knowledgeable. Loved the walk to the wiggly bridge. Wish we had stayed a week...will definately be back!!!
