Mermaid Cove Inn

We were welcomed to the Mermaid Cove Inn as friends, even though we were first time visitors. We enjoyed playing music with the innkeeper, and he was very generous in photocopying music for us to bring on our way. He even gave us a musical instrument! We sampled some of his home-brewed beer which was delicious, and which he kindly offered to us. The jalapeno beer was particularly delicious. The room was very spacious and we enjoyed the high bed, as well as a private sitting room and bathroom all to ourselves. All in all we had a wonderful stay and would recommend it to anyone.

A quick one-night stay on our way home to Nova Scotia and it was a wonderful night. Great B&B, very quaint & charming, with lovely hosts Mary & Kyle. If we are ever in this part of the US again, we will definitely stay here. Thank you both for your hospitality!

I visited the lovely state of Maine in November and stayed at this quaint Inn. The service and friendliness of the innkeepers went above and beyond. We stayed at Mermaid Cove Inn while visiting Maine to attend a friend's wedding in Bangor. We searched B&Bs in the area and Mermaid Cove seemed like a great fit. I have to admit that I was almost worried because the price was a STEAL, but it was everything it seems to be online. Kyle and Mary are the sweetest hosts, even accommodating our vegetarian diet with a very delicious and filling breakfast both days that we stayed there. We had the Cove Room, which was beautifully decorated and had the most comfortable bed and a private entrance (perfect for us since we stayed out a little late for the wedding). We absolutely loved it there and will definitely stay again if we ever find ourselves in that part of Maine again!

My wife and I needed a place to stay after a wedding and we were pleasantly surprised with the Mermaid Inn. Mary and Kyle were very friendly and accommodating to our needs. The breakfast was excellent as was the cozy room we stayed in. Kyle and Mary worked really hard to make us feel at home at their place.

The Mermaid Cove Inn is exactly what was needed for us as a couple needing time away & it was the perfect spot for our desires to get away feeling safe & relaxed. We were looking for a quite "middle of nowhere" type of B&B to escape from our busy lives & a time to rejuvenate from a family loss. We came upon this jewel of a B&B online and our hearts were drawn to it immediately. Hosts, Kyle & Mary, went above and beyond any expectations that we may have ever had or desired. Everything from letting us borrow binoculars to view the seals at a local town lighthouse, to offering a cozy fire made up in our room, for when we returned from a day out in the cold weather. Not only did the high quality bedding & comfort make us NOT want to leave..haha, the unique touch of decor in our rooms & the warm & loving family atmosphere felt in our hearts was comforting. Not to mention the breakfast portion of the stay was better then we could ever have possibly imagined. The truely awesome tasting sausage & bacon, from a family friend supplier, accompanying the waffles topped with piles of melt in your mouth fresh strawberries or the 1st time experience, carmalized banana bread french toast devine that was out of this world, is just a few examples of how well you are treated & thought of at the Mermaid Cover Inn. It is clear that Kyle has a true passion for cooking & Mary has a heart of Gold and that makes for an amazing B&B you could ever ask for. Our weekend away from home, made us feel like we WERE home! Just like one of their many signs on the wall, one stood out saying "Come as strangers, leave as family". That is the truth! We feel as we are leaving as family in just a few short days and that alone explains how compationate Kyle & Mary are about thier B&B. My wife and I had our stay at the Mermaid Cove and it was AWESOME... Kyle and Mary were very Gracious, Friendly and very informative on things to do and see in and around the area of Bangor to Acadia National Park. The breakfasts that Kyle served were Delicious and filling. We enjoyed the sights and things we did in the area, BUT the most fun was when we had campfires nightly, had hot dogs, marshmallows, smores and even cooked our lobster over the open fire and the great conversations that went along with it. We even tried different varieties of homemade brew. If you ask, Kyle will show you a couple of canoes that he may be building at the time. It was like staying with family when we were there and will definitely go back again.

This is a great place to spend some time. Hosts Mary and Kyle are very welcoming and kind and will provide you with lots of information on where to go and what to see. Breakfasts are excellent, and Kyle even treated us to some samples of his home-brewed beer: splendid stuff! He also makes his own canoes, which are worth checking out. The room (we stayed in the Cove Room) and bathroom were very clean and cozy and very nicely decorated, and all that for a very decent price. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful stay, the breakfasts were great and Mary and Kyle were very friendly and helpful. Kyle told us about the best places to visit in the area and they were genuinely interrested in us and treated us like long time friends even though we had just met.

MY WIFE AND I JUST RETURNED HOME AFTER NEARLY A MONTH OF TRAVELING THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA. WE AGREED THAT THE BEST TIME WE HAD WAS AT THE MERMAID COVE IN MAINE WITH MARY AND KYLE ASHTON. IT WAS LIKE VISITING FAMILY - WE ENJOYED EVERYTHING DURING OUR 5 NIGHT STAY THERE. THEY, MARY & KYLE, WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO MAKE OUR STAY A MOST REMARKABLE EXPERIENCE THAT WE WILL NEVER FORGET. THE BREAKFASTS WERE EXCEPTIONAL AS WERE THE HOSTS. WE WERE SO FULL AFTER EATING THESE FABULOUS BREAKFASTS THAT WE SKIPPED LUNCH ALL FIVE DAYS AFTER KYLE MAPPED OUT DIRECTIONS TO NEARBY SIGHTS, ONE BEING STEVEN KING'S HOME WHERE WE WERE ABLE TO SEE HIM IN HIS YARD. MARY AND KYLE HAD A CAMPFIRE FOR US ONE EVENING, AND WE ALL ENJOYED TOASTED MARSHMALLOWS. WE HAVE STAYED AT OVER A DOZEN B&B'S AND BOTH AGREE THAT THIS WAS THE BEST OVERALL BY FAR !!! We were very happy with our stay here. The Victorian style rooms are beautiful, the breakfast was fantastic, and Mary and Kyle are two of the nicest people I have ever met. We ended up staying and talking to them for a long time because they were so interesting and nice! Kyle makes his own canoes, which are really neat, so if you visit definitely ask him to see them, he would be happy to show you! Winterport is only a 20 minute drive from Bangor, so if you're in the area and need a place to stay, stay here! They are one of the few B&B's in the area that are open year round, as far as I could tell. So no matter when you visit, stop on by!

My husband & I recently spent 2 nights at the Mermaid Cove Inn while we were in the area visiting our son and daughter in law. The room had everything we expected from their website. Kyle and Mary are outstandings hosts--helpful and easy to talk to, without being intrusive! The breakfasts both days were amazing! The Banana Bread French Toast was unique and soooooooo good. We will visit again!!

We have been staying at The Mermaid Cove Inn every year for about the past 5 years and it keeps getting better! This year we were able to share this wonderful inn with a friend, and she fell in love with it!

Personable owners who made us feel welcomed and comfortable. Outstanding breakfast in a relaxing atmosphere. Very enjoyable stay. Small but interesting town, Winterport, Me, a good location to drive to other nearby touristy areas of Maine. Can't beat the price and the hospitality!

Our stay at Mermaid Cove Inn was wonderful and very relaxing and the perfect place to spend our first few days as a married couple. A very relaxing retreat after much wedding stress. We loved the Rose room! It was beautiful! The breakfasts we had were excellent. The Blueberry pancakes and bacon were yummy! We hope to come back next year for our anniversary. I just stayed at this inn for the weekend. The inn is set in a lovely wooded area in Maine. But is in walking distance to a pizza shop and a convenience store. The inn is clean. The food was wonderful. Mary and Kyle were very helpful during my stay.

Great place!

A few months ago I came out to Maine for my grandfather funeral. My family and I stayed at the Mermaid Cove and had a wonderful time. One night my family and I went out to dinner at some local restaurant and I got food poisoning. I ended up in bed for the rest of my trip. Mary and Kyle took such good care of me it was almost unbelievable. It was like I was part of the family. I’ve never felt so at home in such a foreign place. I will never forget the kindness they showed me .

Dollar for dollar Mermaid Cove with Mary and Kyle is a better deal than the Waldorf. Winterport Me., at first seems remote, then you realize how great the location is for seeing the surrounding sights, Bar Harbor, Bangor ETC. We had a great time with wonderful breakfasts and caring hosts Mary and Kyle, thankyou.

my wife and i stayed here in early may. the room was clean comfortable, and decorated in the mermaid theme. the owners were gracious and friendly, a real pleasure to to know. the food was appealing in appearance and tasted even better. fruits, such as strawberries, blueberries, and rhubarb were used in the dishes. i will stay here again.

Their accommodations are first-rate. We recommend them to anyone!

Charming victorian decor. Friendly attentive hosts.

The room was spacious and comfortable, as was the bathroom. Breakfast was served in a sunny room with many windows. Chairs were very comfortable and we lingered over coffee. Sitting area in the same room was warmed by a stove. Very pleasant!

Mary and Kyle helped us through our stay from recommending places to visit in Arcadia to serving good breakfasts during our stay. They were good company.

Innkeepers Kyle and Mary go out of their way to care for their guests and ensure that everything is perfect. They are also very conscientious of their patrons' privacy and safety but are also entertaining and provide a wealth of information about things to see and do in the area. The inn is charming - the Rose Room where I stayed was delightful - clean, comfortable, quiet, charmingly decorated. Breakfast was terrific - enough to satisfy 'til dinner. Kyle's recommendations for dinner spots were right on and excellent! The room rate was extremely reasonable making this a great value as well. Definitely a fabulous find and a good choice for places to stay!

My husband and I decided to take a road trip to Bar Harbour and surrounding areas. We stayed at the Mermaid Cove for 4 nights. I have never been to such a clean, friendly and outstanding Bed and Breakfast before. Thanks to our hosts Mary and Kyle for a fabulous time. We both had to go on diets after the terrific food serviced for breakfast.

We stayed one night at the start of our vacation and enjoyed it so much we stopped again on our way home and were able to stay again! Mary and Kyle were outstanding hosts - extremely warm and friendly. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the bathrooms were spotless and shiny! Breakfast was not your typical B&B breakfast. It was outstanding! One morning we had fresh fruit, eggs benedict, potato pancakes, juice/coffee/tea. The next time we stayed we were going to be the only ones for breakfast so Mary and Kyle told us to order whatever we liked, so we had fresh fruit, bacon, eggs, toast, juice/coffee/tea. They asked if we minded if they had breakfast with us, which we didn't, and we had a great time. The first time we were there we had breakfast with two other couples and also had a great time. Mary and Kyle were extremely accommodating, helpful, gracious hosts, and although it's at least a 10 hour drive from home, we plan on returning as soon as we can!

My husband and I have been returning to the Mermaid Cove Inn every summer for the past four years. We are always treated like family, the rooms and so cozy, clean, and well decorated. The breakfasts are superb! Kyle and Mary Ashton could not be better hosts. We recommend the Mermaid Cove to anyone traveling the Coast of Maine.

The Cove is a delightful little B&B. The room was cozy and comfortable. Mary was most helpful and alway available. And Kyle's breakfast of Eggs Benedict a wonderful experience for the palate--maybe the best experienced in any B&B previously visited.

Kyle and Mary couldn't do enough for me...to the point of eating with me as I was the only guest when I stayed. The room was really well presented...just be forwarned if you have environmental allergies-candles burning in the inn and cats on the premises.

Very warm welcome, clean and comfortable. Good breakfast. A great place to wind down after 10 days in Maine. We would return to this B&B. Thank you.

What a wonderful place to stay! Our host (Kyle) and hostess (Mary) were wonderful and we stayed in the most beautiful room with enchanting decor. We also enjoyed a delicious candlelight breakfast of homemade belgian waffles and strawberries before we left. Although we only stayed there for a night, we look forward to our next stay. Highly Recommended!!

I spent 3 nights at the Mermaid Cove Inn and enjoyed Kyle and Mary's wonderful hospitality and service. I particularly enjoyed the well-appointed breakfast service and morning conversation with the inkeepers. I plan on returning.

From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by the nicest Inn Keepers I've ever met. They not only made me feel at home (away from home) but also ensured that they would take care of whatever I needed from the point I drove in, to the second I left. The accommodations were so cozy and pretty darn luxurious. The ambiance was downright relaxing after a long day on the road. They cooked my breakfast to order, and also took into consideration all of my dietary needs. If you visit this inn, you will feel comforted, appreciated, and well taken care of. I would definitely say they exceeded expectations and I will gladly go there again.

We were only there for a short time, but Mary and Kyle were very accomidating to our late arrival and early departure. They are very friendly and excellent cooks!!

Mary and Kyle had no problems with us arriving a few hours late and introduced themselves before going to bed that night. We had our own heating system that we were able to control, a charming bathroom with a nice sized shower, and one of the most comfortable beds that I have ever slept in! They were very conscientious about my many food allergies and cooked a full breakfast accordingly. They helped us on some nice locations to visit while in Maine. They also shared a night of singing and guitar playing in the parlour by a wood fire. All in all, it was one of the best places I have stayed on a vacation in a long while... kind of like a home away from home.

I took my wife to the Mermaid Cove Inn for our one year wedding anniversary. I made plans to take day trips to Bar Habor and Acadia National Park. The Service was great. I had aranged for the hosts to put a vase of roses in the bedroom. She had to drive aleast 35 minutes each way to the store. When my wife and I got back that night the rome had 2 vases, a card and a box of chocolates, gifts from the hosts. Breakfast... you have to try it. The food is not what you would expect, host put a lot of time and detail into their menu planning. My wife is a picky vegan, and it is sometimes very difficult to find food she can eat (diet is by choice and restricted by ulcerative colitis. The hosts were more than accomodating and did a fantastic job catering to her dietary needs. Maine is a place you have to experience, the national park is fun and adventurous, the food and company you cant beat at the Mermaid Cove Inn.

Mary welcomed us enthusiastically. She and her husband were there to help in any way they could—fit in an extra person, help with a dog, directions for evening meals and forward travel, shared conversation and breakfast.

The hosts, Kyle and Mary, of this inn are charming and great cooks. Also very interesting people to talk with. They have some hobbies such as canoe and kayak building and antiques. Would stay there again anytime.

A magnificent treat I will always remember...a special time shared between Mother and Daughter, that included great conversation, as we enjoyed the cozy warmth of the fireplace,the comfort of top of the line bedding, relaxation, and the essence of an enjoyable, excellent homemade breakfast..... all hosted ,"GRACIOUSLY" by Mary and Kyle Ashton.

I had not even considered a B & B stay before, but I definitely stumbled on the best 2 nights stay in my whole vacation. The independence of my own room in a lovely homely setting made for a very comfortable stay. The hosts were very friendly and could not have possibly done more to help. The breakfasts were something to behold and a my memory of the eggs Benedict will stay forever! Definitely a 5 star venue and I would recommend it to anybody.

If you love the Victorian Aera, visit the Mermaid Cove Inn in Winterport, Maine. A Cozy Bed and Breakfast with a lovely parlor for a typical English afternoon tea. Rooms, comfortable and decorated with love.The hosts, Mary and Kyle, treat you as if you are family, and spoil you with a breakfast you will talk about long after you left.

We only spent one night, but it's apparent that these innkeepers have taken this place a LONG way. Great company, great breakfast, clean as a whip. What more could we expect?

We had a delightful stay at the Mermaid Cove; Mary & Kyle are wonderful - he makes gorgeous kayaks out in the barn, she is the ultimate host. It was perfectly quiet, the bed was so comfortable - a fabulous value! If I was heading up to Bangor for anything, this is where I would stay.

We steyed there for a few days. Atmosphere and dining were great. Mary and Kyle are very friendly people. We hope to come back some day... ME is beautifull.

Our flight out of Bangor, ME was at 6.30 AM on a Sunday and at 8 PM the previous evening we had no accommodation anywhere and there was no hope in sight of us getting any room anywhere within a 60 mile radius since it was the Columbus day weekend that also happened to coincide with Canada's Thanksgiving weekend - and everyone from all over, Canada especially, were in Maine to enjoy the weather and the fall colors. Our situation was getting desperate until we stopped at the Mermaid Cove Inn looking for rooms. Of course, there were no rooms available at the Mermaid. But, Mary and Kyle were very helpful in ringing people around asking if they had any vacancies and after an hour or so it dawned on us that we would have no choice but spend the night at the airport. Mary and Kyle sensed this and immediately and spontaneously offered us their personal living room for us to spend the night in!! Mary and Kyle were very gracious and hospitable in making some room for us in their living room and let us use their personal bathroom as well - and insisted that this was absolutely no charge whatsoever!! We were completely blown away by their hospitality and needless to say their generosity. We cannot thank Mary and Kyle enough for their gesture and will truly visit them when we get a chance to visit Maine again. We have no hesitation in unequivocally recommending their inn for your stay. You will realize soon enough after your visit that you want to keep going back to Main just to stay with them.
