Do not stay, lousy place. False advertisement, ants in cabin and lousy service

I called ahead and was quoted a price. I was informed via phone was came with the cabin (in particular that the room has air conditioning). I was informed which cabin I was staying in, and check it out on their website- which also says that all cabins have air conditioning, so I reserved the cabin. I got to the place- and no air conditioning. The women at the desk assured me that it was not needed, as the cabin would be cool in the evening, and that nothing was available with air conditioning. It was late, so we stayed. The room did not cool down, and we slept horribly. In addition, the door to the bathroom did not close and there were ants and ant traps all over the cabin. I complained to the desk clerk the next morning (no night service), and he shrugged, saying that AC would be installed soon. Stay was awful, room was awful and service was awful- BEWARE.

    Innkeeper Response
All rooms do have air conditioning installed when weather is appropriate, the overnight temp was 42 degrees in mid-June! We apologized to the guest, but she was going to complain no matter what we did. The guest used the hot tub, helped themselves to breakfast and then waited for an audience to air her greivances. We intended to return her money, but she was so unpleasant that it was impossible to speak with her.

The staff was the best part of our stay at the Open Hearth Inn. They were extremely helpful and pleasant. The inn is located between 2 roads and can be a little noisy. The room was fairly small.

The location was perfect for exploring Acadia National Park. It was right over the bridge from Mt Desert Island but quieter and much less expensive than accommodations on the island. We enjoyed the cottage. It was very small but charming and clean and had all the basic ammenities. We enjoyed talking with the Inn owner, who gave us excellent information on and directions to Schootic Bay, on the other side of the harbor from Acadia Park. I would recommend Open Hearth.

nice, cozy and very friendly Inn to stay

We stayed three nights during foliage season choosing the version "B & B" (besides B & B you can choose "Motel") and were very pleased with our choice. The room, actually it was a suite, was cozy and clean. The owners were very friendly, knowledgeable about the history of the house (200 years old!) and the area (where to go and what to do). During breakfast and in the evening we had nice little chats together. The breakfast - wonderful! Every morning homemade fresh baked muffins and other very, very tasty things! They took it as a challenge not to bring up twice the same breakfast! In addition, a nice jacuzzi belongs to the Inn, which is wonderful after a hiking or biking day. The Inn is located in front of the "entrance" to Acadia National Park on route 3. This could be a little bit noisy during high season (cars). However, during our stay we did not have any problem. In a pricy area like Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, the Open Hearth Inn is a very good choice with moderate prices and outstanding warm owners!

The staff &/or Owners were knowledgeable about area sights and history of the area and they were marvelous and we enjoyed the historical books and rooms, expecially the dining room. They really wanted to accomodate which is vey unusual these days. We wer so pleased we stayed longer then intended.
