Everything about our stay here was a delight: the robes and slippers, the ample cookies and milk, the array of toiletries in the bathroom, the enormous bed! Come here to get pampered, for half the cost of waterfront hotels!

The Inn is a perfect place to stay in Portland, if your plan is to visit and enjoy the local sites and food. Located close to the edge of the city, it's still only a 5-or-so minute car ride from there to the Old Port district (where you can shop and eat to your heart/stomach's content), and the local Double A baseball team's stadium is a two-minute walk away, so you can enjoy a very fun and inexpensive pro baseball experience, to boot! The room we stayed in was quite nice -- king bed was very comfortable, and the space roomy with old-fashioned, sturdy décor and furniture. Bathroom was on the small side, but very clean and well-maintained. Overall, the cleanliness was above-average for a B&B. The inn does not have a restaurant to speak of--only a small dining area where standard continental breakfast fare will await you in the morning (muffins, croissants, cereal, bread, milk, yogurt, juice, etc.), so perhaps not what most expect when staying at a place that advertises as a B&B locale (i.e., no full breakfasts here). But given how many wonderful dining opportunities there are in the Old Port area (not to mention a fantastic BBQ place -- Salvage BBQ -- only seconds away from the Inn), that should not be a deal-breaker for most persons visiting Portland for pleasure. Overall, an excellent low-cost option for bedrest while travelling or staying around for a few days, and one we'll doubtless use again on our next visit.

We've stayed at St. John's several times and love the consistency of the rooms and service, which is a notch above the rest at this price point.

Just stayed for one night in a top floor room with shared bath. This is a fantastic place to stay at, great value, clean and comfortable rooms, equipped with all you need. Don't let shared bath put you off, the hotel was full when we stayed and we didn't see anyone except at breakfast. Free breakfast was great, lots offered, bagels, muffins, fruit, cereal, juice, coffee etc. We will recommend and stay again if in the area, great job!

Quaint and clean, convenient to many places. The walkable aspect of Portland is much appreciated.

My girlfriend and I traveled up for a mid-week trip to Portland, and couldn't have been happier with the Inn at St. John. It has a great location at a great price- we were able to drive into town on some days, and then either walk or cab it during the nights. Also, and this this is a very big plus, the Inn is very close to the Portland Sea Dogs' home stadium, which is a great place to catch a game and have a brew! Lastly, we had to leave one night early due to a family emergency, and the Inn staff were incredibly helpful and understanding. The rooms are beautiful, the staff are incredibly friendly, and the location is great. We will definitely stay here again when we next visit Portland!

Location was good, the walk up Congress takes you by cute Latino grocery, great BBQ place, awesome cafe/baked goods. Rooms were nice, economical with space, but well designed. The cookies in the lobby were a nice touch!

I was very pleasantly surprised by the service and the rooms. An incredible value for sure. The breakfast was adequate, but nothing out of the ordinary.

This recently remodeled historic hotel was quite charming. The staff was friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was great -- Just need a little more room for the breakfast area. Great restaurants and the State Theater within walking distance. We would definitely stay here again.
