Just want we were looking for...

We went to Portland for a long weekend and found this place on a whim. It was in the middle of everything with just a five minute drive to the waterfront and high way. The staff was incredibly friendly and the rooms were immaculate. The breakfast was just a simple spread of bagels, cereal, yogurt and fruit but there are plenty of local places within a short ride to try. Definitely staying there again!

One of the Best Nights in Portland

I shouldn't be surprised because the reviews on this place were already stellar but the staff were truly some of the nicest people I've met in a while. They went completely out of their way for us, the room was immaculate and had so many personal touches to it. It really felt like home for the night and gave me and my partner a fantastic birthday trip up to Portland. Thank you guys so much for making us feel so welcome!

Great place to stay when in Portland

I love this inn because it's close to the highway yet extremely quiet, provides breakfast foods (even some gluten-free items) and has friendly helpful staff. It's Victorian decor is lovely.

Nice Little Place

I stayed here on a whim during a weekend trip to Portland. It was a bit further from the places I was visiting, but easy to walk from and it was nice to have a place to park my car while I explored. My room and bathroom were very tidy and comfortable - I stayed in a room where the bathroom was separate from the actual room. I didn't mind it at all because it was just down the hall two doors. I will definitely stay here again.

An excellent visit as always

I've been staying at the Inn of St John whenever I need to leave from Portland early in the morning, and it's always a pleasure. This time around, I'd made a reservation, my plans changed, and the staff were great about first refunding (making sure I knew their policies at ever step) and then rebooking once I rescheduled the trip. The room was comfortable and interesting, and everything just worked smoothly.

Wish I had known about this place sooner

The staff was so nice and helpful. The room was very cute and comfortable; and the private bath across the hall was no issue -- especially because there was a sink in the room to wash your face and brush your teeth. I was traveling alone and I felt much safer there than I did when I stayed at a hotel at a comparable low price in Portland. The cookies and tea in the lobby were great for bedtime and the continental breakfast was fresh and convenient.

Love this Hotel

Very comfortable room and super clean with old world charm. The staff Is wonderful and very helpful. There is no dining here even though I put outstanding. The web site makes you put something in. But there is a nice continental breakfast there. I can't think of anywhere else I would rather stay.

nice stay

The inn at St John was a very neat old building. I liked the tiny staircase and funny hallways. All the odd nooks and crannies helped us realize just how many changes the old inn had lived through.

Its all in the details

Not even the city having a major gas line leak that required digging up the road directly in front of the Inn (which took 24 hour around the clock work with heavy machinery) will deplete our thoughts on our stay. The rooms, and the Inn, was exceptionally clean- and despite the age and level of activity the building was Iin very good repair. It is obvious that there has been a lot of thought and care put into every detail, big and small. It's this attention and care that made our stay relaxing, comfortable and worth repeating many more times.
