My daughter and I stayed here, to look at apartments for her, in the area. It was conveniently located and a good value. It was very comfortable and homey as well as an easy place to relax and unwind but still close enough to jump a taxi downtown! The staff was courteous and exceptionally accomodating. I would stay here again!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Inn at St John. The rooms were eclectically decorated, and the bed was very comfy. It was small, but very cosy. Our washroom was across the hall, and was perfectly secure, clean, and we didn't mind it one bit! The air conditioning unit was not sealed properly and let the cold air in, but with the extra space heater, we were able to keep warm. The first night the pipes clanged so loudly we were awoke n at 6am, and didn't get back to sleep. The front desk keeper said it was an old building. We understand, but it sounded as though someone was repeatedly hitting the pipes in our room with a wrench. The breakfast was great, and very adequate! The inn was a short cab ride from Portland's main attractions. In the summertime, it would be a nice walk.

We spent 4 nights at the Inn at Christmas and we loved it. We will return in warmer weather. The service was excellent. Giving us help when needed and also giving us privacy and quiet which we wanted. The front desk, I hope I am remembering his name correctly, Jeremy, was just a perfect blend of enthusiasm, friendliness and professionalism. Thank you

Loved this Inn. I accidentally booked our first night in a room without windows and even that room was beautiful. The next couple nights we stayed on the third floor and the service was amazing, they brought all of our baggage up while we were out and it was simply phenomenal service. We will definitely be staying there again. The price was far below average and the service was unparalleled. Thanks!!

This was our second time staying at the Inn at St. John, and once again it was just what we were looking for. We stayed the weekend of February 14th, 2015 in 6C the first night and 9B the second night. 6C had a small refrigerator and freezer and an ensuite bathroom. 9B had a small fridge and a microwave, and a private hall bathroom, about 10 feet down the hall. 9B was a little cold, unsurprising with the blizzard and high winds, but there was a space heater provided (make sure you use the outlet that the window unit uses!). All in all, it was a very nice stay and we'll be back next time!

The staff was extremely nice, helpful and accommodating as usual. The room was huge and clean as was the bathroom. The location is great and the prices are affordable. I mean there is really no reason to stay anywhere else in Portland.

The staff was welcoming and very friendly when my fiancé and I arrived. The front desk attendant even gave me some coupons for local cabs and told me which can companies were the most reliable to use (my fiancé and I were going to a show that night). The room was very clean and I loved taking a bath in the bathtub with the jets! We slept through breakfast unfortunately but we did snack on their cookies which were good. Check out was super fast and easy and the staff was very friendly. For the price I paid to be in downtown Portland, I will definitely stay here again and will absolutely recommend this diamond in the rough to anyone who will listen!

My parents had stayed here before, and I will always go for a cozy place when I have the chance. The Inn is just that, with a kind late night welcome, arriving just before a blizzard, a great breakfast in the morning, and one (or maybe more?) fresh-baked cookie(s) out to eat every time I needed to make a run to the car. The room was plenty warm in the cold New England air, and the staff always had a smile and a kind word. I spend most of my time in Europe, so a bathroom down the hall is no trouble, and it was perfectly outfitted. The only thing that threw me for a bit of a loop was the coffee out in the lobby. My mother had had some the day before, and had thrown her stomach into a bit of a loop. I didn't catch the hint and had a cup the following morning...definitely threw a wrench into my day. Maybe just a case of a refill or two without a clean. Everything else in the Inn was well up to par and I never had a second thought about hygiene whilst there.

My only reluctance to give the St. John Inn the glowing review it deserves is to keep it a secret for my use and enjoyment, and for those who have discovered it. The rooms are clean and well-appointed, the people are super nice, breakfast and all day coffee & cookies, free parking, easy to find and all at an exceptional price. Visit, but just don't spread it around, okay :)
