Absolutely beautiful and relaxing! I get so tired of the hectic city life in nyc so its nice to just wake up to a bright blue sky and fall asleep to the ocean waves splashing against the shore. Dick is extremely nice and was very helpful when my boyfriend and I had a bit of a problem leaving on our last day there. Everything there screamed new england charm and paradise. The rooms there had a very nautical feel with billowy curtains and bright decor. This is definitely a place you can go to if life back home is driving you insane. Perfect getaway for me and my boyfriend. He loved it too and he isn't easily impressed. If you need a paradise a little closer to home, then this b&b is the perfect place to go... Just make sure you have a drivers license and a car or else you'll end up walking a mile into town just for a bottle of water during the off peak season.

    Innkeeper Response
Thanks very much for taking the time to write a review about your recent visit to the Nautilus By The Sea and a really thoughtful and very nice review. Since Dick is running the inn by himself right now as health issues have kept me in Florida, he will doubly appreciate the kind words. We also once lived in Manhattan so know something about life in big city. Hopefully the next you visit I will be in Ocean Park also.

We were pleased with our stay at the Nautilus, even though it was a bit out of the way of things. It wasn't nearly the quick, 10-minute jaunt into Portland that we expected, and the surrounding community was like a ghost town (to be fair, we were there after peak season). The rooms are very clean and comfortable, and the view was as promised. We loved waking up to see the sunrise over the ocean. The beach is wonderful if you like long walks (and who doesn't?). The innkeepers are either stand-offish or respectful of their guests' privacy, since once we checked in, we never saw them until it was time to leave (at most B&B's we've stayed at, the innkeepers socialize at breakfast and offer suggestions for things to do in the area). They didn't seem interested in initiating interaction with guests, but when we did see them, they were pleasant. I was a bit annoyed by the signs posted around the B&B that reminded guests not to be make noise, run in the halls, go without shoes in the house, etc. Do the innkeepers think their guests are all children?

    Innkeeper Response
Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review of our B&B/Inn. We're sorry you were expecting to be closer to Portland. Since I commuted everyday for 4 years to downtown Portland I realize it takes about 25 minutes. We understand your comments about the signs in the halls, but during season we do have lots of families with young children and it's important for their wellbeing not to run or have barefeet. We'll see if we can some how figure out how to remove them during the spring and fall seasons. We are be respectful of our guests privacy but also try to impart any needed information about the area. Your stay could have come at a time when Patte was busy with community activities as she is not known for being standoffish. Thank you for visiting.

My husband and I usually stay at The Billowhouse across from this B & B, but they happened to be full this particular weekend. They suggested The Nautilus By The Sea. It was very comfortable and we had a great room overlooking the ocean. The rooms were very neat and clean and we enjoyed the beautiful sunrise and sunsets. We were able to leave our windows open and fall asleep listening to the waves rolling onto the beach.
