Captain Lord Mansion

This was a lovely place to spend a weekend. Very impressive and extremely luxurious. I really enjoyed my room and it was such a nice, short walk to the heart of Kennebunkport. Everyone was very friendly and breakfast was fantastic. Would love to go back.

The Captain Lord Mansion is one of the best bed and breakfast we have stayed in. The room and bath were spotless, spacious, and just beautiful. Attention to detail was apparent throughout the inn. The service was warm and friendly and the breakfasts delicious. The grounds were perfectly kept and very comfortable and relaxing. What a wonderful, wonderful inn! Can't wait to go back!

Everything as I remembered it...may it has gotton a bit too big ..but all in all great stay!

We stayed overnight at the Garden House at the Captain Lord Mansion in early August, 2011 for our 42nd Anniversary compliments of our sons, Steve and Joe, and daughter-in-law Rachel. Quite a treat for us. The yellow structure was eye-catching as were the grounds of the Mansion and Garden House. The flowers were in full bloom-luscious color; well manicured; and delightfully accented with statues of dogs and children with a small fountain and brick walkway. The spacious lawn contained shady areas with well-placed sitting areas and picnic table. We arrived mid-afternoon and took advantage of the afternoon sun to stroll into town to peruse the shops and enjoy lunch at Allison's before check in. The four-bedroom Garden House was a perfect choice for us! The quaint wicker furniture in the porch entrance greeted us and also led to the beautiful warm wood floors and beams which were showcased throughout the house. The spacious kitchen was perhaps my favorite room with antique furnishings and accoutrements which were perfectly matched and balanced. This attention-to-detail furnishings continued to be perfectly chosen for each and every room. The Nathaniel, our room, was perfectly suited for us as it was delightfully cozy. We partook of the bathroom's updated features; the whirlpool bathtub and the radiant-heated marble floors. The plush robes were fabulous too! The bed was quite appropriately firm, although I did need the step-riser that was provided. Our love for art was perfectly quenched with the fashionably-framed well-chosen pieces which adorned the walls abundantly throughout house. Our breakfast was plentiful and scrumptious and the service were outstanding! "Thank you Holly". The three other couples were friendly and we all leisurely feasted. It was PERFECT! We look forward to our next visit in perhaps another delightfully appointed room. The high-star rating is very well deserved. Pat and Jim

We have been there twice and every time we love it! Such a comfortable, cozy, inviting Inn. The people that work there are so friendly as are the guests. We always end up sitting in the great room chatting with other guests. Love the breakfasts! And love that they always have beverages and delicious snacks for the guests to enjoy. Love the shop they have downstairs. We have been there in the summer and winter and loved it both times. The decor is beautiful! I just can't say enough good things about Captain Lord Mansion! What a wonderful place to renew our marriage vows, spend quiet time together, and fall in love all over again. The Inn is perfect in every way, leaving nothing to be desired. There is so much to see and view, that in the short three days we spent, we only peeked at the beginning of a long 'come back again' adventure. We stayed in the Nathaniel room. It was quiet & romantic. It was just what we needed to relax for a few days. I would recommend it.

We stayed two nights in February. We arrived late in the evening and were impressed from the beginning. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and we were greeted with free gifts of champagne and chocolates. The room was very nicley appointed, albeit on the small side. The bathroom was excellent with a deep soaking tub/jacuzzi. The room had a gas fireplace which we really enjoyed. The Inn had (free) snowshoes for us to use during the day. We think the breakfast food was out of this world and the atmosphere at breakfast was very welcoming and it was nice to meet others on vacation. Overall, this was our favorite B&B we have visited (out of three) and we look forward to a return trip.

We stayed in the Garden House/Susan Room. Not staying in the main house provides a little more privacy and they welcome you to explore the main house as much as you wish. The room was beautifully decorated, and had a working gas fireplace, which was nice, since we were there in January. We were greeted by friendly staff, and there were two mini bottles of Prosecco and chocolate-covered strawberries waiting for us in our room. Breakfast was really excellent, starting with fresh fruit, granola with yogurt, waffles/omelet, and great coffee. Again, breakfast & cleaning staff were outgoing, pleasant and down-to-earth.

Our stay at Captain Lord Mansion lived up to our expecations. Having visited dozens of B&B’s over the years, we can honestly say this one it worth even going out of the way to visit. When we travel to Maine again we will definitely stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone. The breakfasts were hardy and included wonderful homemade muffins. The host was very personable and he promoted a very relaxing atmosphere at breakfast. Our room was comfortable and lent a sense of privacy which didn’t leave you feeling as if you had to walk around whispering all the time. The room had a nice amenities and modern conveniences and recommends itself to any type of traveler, whether business or pleasure. This B&B offers so many considerations and should not be missed. We stayed in the Mousam suite on the third floor.

Last year was our first time visiting and we loved it so much we went again this year. This time we stayed for two nights in mousam. It was a small suite, but cute and clean as always. Just a little cold in the room due to all the windows, make sure you utilize the fire place!

It was warm and cozy, a perfect place to stay. The breakfast was delicious and we will definitely be staying here again. We loved the service and the afternoon snacks and everyone made us feel welcome. Also, the place was beautifully decorated for Christmas and really gave a wonderful feeling when you walked in the front door.

This was our 9th visit and we look forward to our next stay. The Captain Lord is spectacular and is overseen by the most wonderful staff and owners who clearly have put there heart and soul into making this one of the most beautiful, comforatble, warm Inns in New England. We love our time there!

The Captain Lord is one of our favorite spots to relax and enjoy each other's company. The rooms and the home itself are beautifully and carefully decorated to make you feel cozy and welcome. The elegant mansion is so filled with history...Bev and Rick have done a wonderful job maintaining and updating the home all the while keeping the integrity of the home. We'll be back!!

We had a wonderful and relaxing stay. Everyone was very, very nice. Our room was lovely (the low ceiling in the shower did not affect us, but it should be noted on the website for others of the taller persuasion to note). The only less than outstanding item was breakfast, but that was still good, it just was not as good as our prior visit.

Another return visit for us. Did some shopping in Kennebunkport within walking distance. Checked in a bit early and we were shown changes to the Inn from our last visit. Christmas preparations were starting. Ate dinner at the White Barn Inn that evening. Had a very nice breakfast with pleasant conversation. We'll be back (again!). Our room was lovely, service was outstanding as was the cleanliness of the Inn. The location lends itself to quiet walks and, even in November, there is plenty to do in town. Portland is a quick ride up 95 if one wants to enjoy a more urban scene for a few hours. We will definitely return.

This was our twelfth visit to The Captain Lord Mansion ... need I say more? Every need is taken care of with cheerfulness and speed. The rooms are beyond compare and we love the whole ambience at CLM. We'll be back!

We had only a brief stay in Maine, (our first) and only one night to spend somewhere. We chose the Captain Lord Mansion and everything exceeded our expectations and more! I would highly recomend the mansion to anyone that needs a little TLC. Step back out of the real world and enjoy being pampered!

CLM never seems to disappoint this was our 8th visit and every visit is beyond expectations

The building is beautiful and breakfasts are delicious. They state that they cannot have irons in the room becaue of insurance, but many other inns do. This made it inconvenient to iron clothes that were wrinkled in the suitcase. You had to bring your clothes downstairs to their laundry room to iron. Also I am not a big fan of sharing a table for breakfast with people I don't know. Some mornings it was ok, but others it was uncomfortable.

My sixth visit to the Captain Lord Mansion was even better than my fifth, fourth, third, second and first. They make you feel like a most welcome guest in their beautiful, comfortable, elegant home. From the big touches (great bed, luxurious jacuzzi tub) to the small ones (scrumptious cookies and hot "glog" in the afternoon), they get it all so right. The folks around our breakfast table were all repeat guests and we enjoyed a lively conversation that kept us lingering over coffee for nearly an hour. I can't wait to go back again.

Can't say enough about Captain Lord Mansion. This was our second stay. First time we stayed in the the carraige house and had a wonderful experience. This time we booked the small suite (Mousam) in the main house and we very pleased. Room was wonderful and relaxing. Had a tough time going out to dinner we enjoyed the room so much. Just sitting by the fire with a glass of wine was pure heaven. Very clean room with all the amenities of a luxury hotel. Can't wait to return for another night or two.

We just returned from 5 days at the Captain Lord Mansion. This was our 13th visit and we are still overwhelmed by their hospitality and cleanliness. If you want a get away that makes you feel relaxed then a stay at the CLM in Kennebunkport is the spot. Great restaurants, wonderful beaches and nice shopping. Be aware that in January to March many shops and restaurants are closed.

Room was cozy and beautifully decorated. Very thoughtful little extras in room. Staff was attentive and friendly. Breakfast was amazing. Have already recommended this Inn to friends.

There could not have been anything any better. Had a great stay that included a noreastern that knocked out the power for a few hours and that made the fireplace even better. Loved it.

We had a wonderful time! The Mansion was beautiful. We met many nice people while we were there. Our room was clean and very comfortable. We would definately come back. The breakfast was superb!! It was pricey...but we did have a great time. The area was beautiful. Many things were in walking distance. The staff was pleasant and very helpful with information on where to dine and sightseeing.

We stayed in 5 different places on our week long trip along the north east coast. The Captian Lord Mansion was the absolute best in every way. We plan to return the next chance we get but will definitely stay more that one night.

Captain Lord mixes just the right amount of elegance, charm and just plan down home feelings. So many B and B's can be stuffy and cold when it comes to the personality of staff and guests, NOT CAPTAIN LORD! It provides a wonderful feeling of Welcome and Care for the guest that rubs off on everyone there! Wonderful time and cannot wait to return!

Everything at the Captain Lord Mansion was wonderful! The only thing that wasn't perfect was the breakfast. The food and service was very good, but there was no choice and the portions were small. We have traveled and stayed at B & B's many times and the Capt. Lord was the best we've experienced.

We loved that they had bikes available to us. It was the best!!

After three nights to just get away, my husband and I are ready to go back. They think of everything you may possibly need and have no problem getting you what you request. Everything is so clean and updated. Everyone is extremely friendly and it feels like home, without responsibilities!

We spent a long weekend this year 3 nights. this was our 5th time there, and every time it gets better. No request is ignored. When you walk in you are floored the the little details about everything. The service is always done with a smile. If you are looking for a relaxing time away, this is the place to be.

We have been staying at the CLM since 1990. Bev and Rick have upgraded something almost every year. It is a very special place and experience for any traveler. We love Inns and have stayed in over 30 in the USA and abroad. This place is second to none.

Attention to every detail that you might possibly desire. Lovely! Honestly the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in (we peeked under the sheets to replicate the mattress and topper when we return home!). Truly exceptional hospitality!

If you're looking for a higher end B&B in a cute ME village -- you will not be disappointed with the Captain Lord Mansion. You truly get your money's worth with all the amenities offered with the room. This place is fantastic.

We have stayed at many bed and breakfasts, only one other has compared so far to the Captain Lord Mansion. The staff keeps this gorgeous mansion in tip top shape, the rooms are lovely, the breakfasts are delicious, our stay is ALWAYS memorable. We especially love the Merchant Captains suite with the waterfall shower and that bathroom is extreme fab! The innkeepers are wonderful, pleasant, friendly, knowledgeable and especially adept at helping with dinner reservations and suggestions. This is the place you will compare all other bed and breakfasts to, it's that nice. We were treated like royalty here. They even brushed the snow off our car in the winter, (we didn't ask them to, that's just the type of service they do there). You will love this place!

I had the chance to visit the Captain Lord Mansion while visiting Southern Maine with my Mom. WOW! was all we could say. It's superior in all ways. Filled with beautiful artwork and antiques, the inn features a spa, two living rooms (one formal parlor and one casual TV room), a great gift shop - more like a gift store, and a full wine list with exceedingly reasonable prices. Free wi-fi is available throughout the inn, and each room comes equipped with a refigerator filled with complimentary soft drinks and waters. Two things stand out in my mind about this visit. I loved the lavish bath with the heated marble floors and shower with body jets. We stayed in the Callender room, with a gas fireplace and huge four poster king bed, it was great. The other thing that I was moved by was the Memory Garden. Each time a guest celebrates their tenth visit, a stone is placed in the garden with their name on it. The stones wind their way around a beautiful fountain. It's amazing to think all those people have visited 10 times. Kennebunkport has so much to do, but I can tell for many people, just being at the Captain Lord Mansion is all you need for a relaxing, wonderful getaway.

Charming yet run like a business. I like that someone is always there to help you. THe bikes were a great bonus. So was the coffee and goodies always available. We went to Vt, NH, MAS. RI and Here and stayed at inns or b&bs. I liked this b&b the best. We met wonderful, down to earth people. Great restaurants close to you. All the added touches make this worth the price. It helped that we had perfect weather. I want to go back to the Cpt right now. Go to Arrows Restaurant in Ogunquit for a Top meal of your life.

The service food and attention to detail make the Captain Lord Mansion an annual get away for 8 teacher friends every spring.

Our stay at the Captain Lord Mansion was perfect. The Mansion is breathtaking and the staff made us feel like we were at home. There are many fun things to do in Kennebunkport. We plan on returning to the Mansion as soon as possible.

Facility was outstanding. Attention to every detail noted. Breakfast everyday different and creative. Room size was great. Enjoed the hosiptality of Owner's and staff.

Expensive but worth every penny for the historic mansion, gorgeous decor, lavish furnishings, attentive staff, and wonderful extras like free unlimited access to the fancy coffee machine. Great location; quiet but close to everything in Kennebunkport. Rick and Bev have thought of everything.

We honeymooned here and can't wait to come back! We had fruit and champagne upon arrival, the room was gorgeous, and the friendly staff thought of every comfort. I appreciated all the info on local restaurants and activities.

This is a wonderful Bed and Breakfast that is worth every dime. The rooms are like a hotel...but with the personal bed and breakfast touch! Anyone who stays at the Captain Lord Mansion will not be disappointed with the food, rooms, or service. Believe me if you are in the proverbial "dog house" taking your mate to the Captain Lord Mansion, is the best way to get out. Its the only Bed and Breakfast that we would visit again and again.

An amazing mansion, built when most Americans were living in one-room cabins. I have stayed several times over the years, and am impressed at how the owners continue to upgrade, update, and enhance the accommodations. Great location, too.

Relaxing - comfortable - very clean and hosts are wonderful. Everytime we go, they are adding something special. The area is charming and comfortable.

This was our third time at the inn and again it was the best. The cleanliness, the complete staff, the grounds and the fantastic rooms. It is perfection. Loved it.

My wife and I stayed 2 nights in the Lincoln room in April, 2007. The room was decorated very nicely with a gas fireplace. Breakfast was very good both morning we were there, Dave the chief was very helpful suggesting reataurants in the area and made sure that everyone was full. The inn itself has a lot to offer since its decorated as the Captain's home, but its also has many current amenties like wifi and if you forgot your laptop a computer with web access to check email. Some people may not like the fact that there are no TVs in the rooms but thats what makes it romantic. Kennebunkport is also a great area with so many things to do. We will go back again to stay in another of the rooms.

The Captain Lord Mansion is the most luxurious place I've ever stayed! It has a very interesting history - built in 1812 for Captain Lord who took a break from his shipping trade to avoid the British bombardment in the War of 1812. The mansion is furnished with antiques but also has all the modern comforts, like a heated marble floor in the powder room of the Ophelia room. The breakfast is bountiful and delicious. Spoil yourself with a stay at the Captain Lord Mansion next time you visit Kennebunkport, Maine!
