  • Great clean inn, friendly innkeepers with a great hound...but prayers at breakfast?

Firstly I must come clean, I also run an inn located in Woodstock VT, and I have high standards, which overall were very well met. The innkeepers Jill & David were very friendly in a relaxed and caring way, and also had a great dog. Our room was the Starlight suite up on the 3rd floor, very light (more of that later...) very airy with a superb level of cleanliness.....couldn't have cleaned it any better myself and I do a LOT of room cleaning so we were VERY IMPRESSED! A very positive policy about the inn was it's no outdoor shoes and no children policy, which is one of the main reasons we booked. The inn also does not do 'floral New England' overkill, but it does offer a refined style. There were a few small things that I feel need tweaking. 1) Breakfast is served at 08.00...which for a leisure destination is too early. Also when you check in it is verbally impressed upon you that breakfast is at 08.00, also there is a sign on the breakfast room door as well as the bathroom mirror in our bedroom to remind you! It is also made clear when you book that breakfast is at 08.00 so there is no element of surprise! However I feel if one runs a lodging venue (as I do) you should offer a degree of flexibility as many clients like to sleep longer on vacation. 2) Prayers before breakfast is served......now this is a tricky one....do you take into account all faiths so as to not offend anyone OR do you keep your own beliefs to one side, in a commercial business? I feel the latter is far more preferable. 3) Our room had three roof windows WITHOUT blinds. Now I like to sleep but at 04.45 I was awoken with the sun streaming in....a lovely sight...except I wanted to sleep as i cook breakfast everyday......however at least it meant I was up in time for the 08.00 breakfast! 4) Your fabric detergent is too noxious and smells in a man made way. We use only 100% natural cleaning at our home and inn so we are sensitive to it.

    Innkeeper Response
Innkeepers come in all shapes, styles, ideas, and ideals. We continue to offer the highest quality service, surrroundings, breakfast, and guest care. We figure a blessing is just the icing on the cake.
