The perfect gift for every occasion
See more Camden, Maine

  • In 1802 Alden Bass built this house at 22 High Street. Those were the times when Thomas Jefferson was President of the United States, Route 1 was a dirt road and Maine was still a part of the state of Massachusetts. Consisting of a striking main house with an attached carriage house and four-story barn, the Inn is an outstanding example of the progressive farm buildings common to 19th century Maine. Lovingly maintained, today it stands regally in Camden's Historic District, the essence of early New England.
A short stroll from the Maine Stay Inn brings you to the head of Camden Harbor, one of America's most beautiful seaside villages, where you can experience a cruise aboard an old schooner in the enchanting Penobscot Bay.
The south parlor, a cozy room to read a book.
The north parlor, tastefully decorated and enriched with old Italian paintings and furnitures.
The former dining room, where you may enjoy your breakfast at the antique harvest table.
The sun porch overlooking the garden, a romantic place to enjoy your breakfast.
The Maine Stay garden. Walk in our 1.2 acres garden, full of flowers and with a creek crossing it.
The Carriage House room. Harpers Bazaar and Vacations magazine both chose the Carriage House as their favorite Camden Maine Stay guestroom. Right on the garden, downstairs from the ground floor, in the back of the house this large room has a queen bed, private bathroom with a walk-in shower, lots of books, a Vermont Castings stove and a French door which opens onto a quaint stone patio tucked in between the room and the barn. This is a lovely, private, romantic bedchamber. Air-conditioned. Complimentary Wi-Fi in this room and throughout the Inn.
The Mayflower suite bedroom. Some of the floor boards in this room are over 16 inches wide. The bedroom overlooks the garden. Air-conditioned. Complimentary Wi-Fi in this room and throughout the Inn.
The Mayflower suite living room. This comfortable sitting room has a warm, inviting gas fireplace, an armchair and a pull-out couch, TV with a DVD player. It looks toward historic High Street.
The Dogwood room. Located on the first floor this room overlooks our garden with our dogwood trees and the woods. The garden is located one full floor below the room so you can see our barn, a brook and the paths that wind through our wooded glen, but mostly you can see flowers and trees. The room has a beautiful brass queen bed that is inlaid with mother-of-pearl dogwood flowers, a sitting area and private bathroom with a walk-in shower. Air-conditioned. Complimentary Wi-Fi in this room and throughout the Inn.
The Tierney room. A bright and cheerful corner room with three windows that bring in the morning sun. On the second floor, in the front of the house, facing High Street, this room looks out at a group of wonderful old white clapboard-clad homes - every one listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The bathroom has a six-foot soak tub and shower. Air-conditioned. Complimentary Wi-Fi in this room and throughout the Inn.
The Amelia Huse suite bedroom. This suite occupies the entire third floor of the inn. The master bedroom, with its antique, high brass and iron queen bed views the woods and Mount Battie. A cozy adjoining bed-room has a high brass and iron twin bed. The bathroom has a walk-in shower and a skylight. Air-conditioned. Complimentary Wi-Fi in this room and throughout the Inn.
The Amelia Huse suite living room. You will find an interesting collection of furnishings like the end tables made from old sewing machine bases. The sitting room has a sofa, a comfortable armchair, a small desk, TV with a DVD player, and a Vermont fireplace. You can sit at the desk to write a note, or just look out at the rooftops of some of the historic homes that line High Street.
The Common Ground junior suite. Maine is known for its agricultural fairs, which celebrate harvest and mark the beginning of our long winters. One of the most popular is the Common Ground Fair, which is sponsored by the Maine Organic Farmers Association. Our Common Ground Room incorporates this theme displaying posters from past fairs. A high beamed ceiling, Vermont Castings stove and Maine cottage furniture make a very cozy room. The room has a queen bed, a sitting area with a couch, armchair and a TV with a DVD player. French doors open to a private terrace, with a sitting area outside, that overlooks the garden. The room has an in-suite bathroom with shower and soaking tub. Air-conditioned. Complimentary Wi-Fi in this room and throughout the Inn.
The den, a comfortable room to relax where you can watch the TV or read the morning newspaper.
The Topper room. This room overlooks a wooded glen. No houses are visible from here, but the animals that reside in the State Park behind our house can often be seen snacking on our tulips or hosta. With a queen-size bed and leaded glass panels this is a delightful room. The room has a private bathroom with a walk-in shower. Air-conditioned. Complimentary Wi-Fi in this room and throughout the Inn.
The Smith-Robson room. The windows in this room face north and east bringing in the early morning sunshine. The bed is an antique brass and iron queen, and has a lovely cozy cottage feeling. The room has a private bathroom with a walk-in shower while the sink is in the room. Air-conditioned. Complimentary Wi-Fi in this room and throughout the Inn.

While this is a lovely property, the decorating would benefit from some simplification. Artificial flowers, doilies, and knick knacks make the rooms look dated. Also, there were delicious cookies on the first day and none after that. The innkeepers are delightful and the inn is sparkling lean.

    Elegance

    September 14, 2012

No detail escaped Roberta and Claudio in our three night Maine Stay Inn visit last week. Each room was decorated as a piece of art. I actually photographed many of the rooms so that I could include them in my vacation album. The breakfasts were delcious from poached pears to oven salsa omelets and fresh blueberry pancakes -- with recipes that they were eager to share. The breakfast room with fresh placements and napkins in different colors each day, overlooked the gorgeous, sunny gardens. Our room was elegant and so comfortable, decorated in a country fair theme. And, the entire inn was spotless and shiny!

Our visit to this B&B was fantastic. Claudio and Roberta were excellent hosts providing us with information about the area as well as delicious food and beautiful surroundings. We shared a bond since we both had lived in Rome, Italy. Everything was clean and comfortable. We would certainly recommend Maine Stay Inn to anyone traveling in this area of Maine.

    Lovely and Friendly

    July 25, 2012

We spent two nights at this inn. It was a wonderful experience from begining to end. We had just gotten off a week on a windjammer and really enjoyed the spaciousness and luxury. The hosts, Claudio and Roberta were helpful in every way. When we needed to leave before breakfast to catch our plane they provided a quick meal for us. The rooms were comfortable and large, including not only a bed but a full sitting area. Rooms are decorated with antiques and period furniture. We hope to return next time we are in the area.

    Wonderful trip!

    July 19, 2012

Lured by the excellent website, we reserved rooms for 3 days. The Inn is very close to the main street ...I had no trouble walking into town, even with 'dicey' knees. The Latanazas have anticipated every wish and I am very finicky. Breakfast was delicious, varied and elegantly served. The Inn is a visual masterpiece and the garden, which is extensive and designed by Mrs. Latanza, allows one to disappear from the world. We look forward to another visit! J. Ehrlich
