Stayed here for our 6th year in a row, this time with our son & daughter-in-law as well, and once again ~ simply fabulous! In every way. Brian & Ed run a perfect Inn and the renovation work and updates this year have enhanced our stay even more.

The Topside was a recommendation from friends & we were so pleased that we followed their recommendation. Brian & Ed are superb hosts, nothing was too much trouble for them to make our stay comfortable & hassle free. The whole of the Inn is absolutely spotless & very well kept, every detail is attended to. The guest rooms are extremely comfortable, good beds & good bathrooms. We stayed 3 nights & every morning an absolutely delicious breakfast was served, fresh fruit, cereal, toast & a different hot meal each day, not to mention cookies & snacks available all day. I highly recommend this Inn.

Topside Inn is a "must" if you are staying in Boothbay Harbor. It is located on the highest point of the town and has been completely redone. The views are spectacular as is the service from Bryan and Ed. The breakfasts are a thing to behold as well. The rooms are large and very comfortable. I will be back. Tip-Call early for reservations as this Inn stays busy!

We really enjoyed our stay at Topside Inn. It was just as I always imagined a Maine house to be. After staying in hotels previously on our trip, it was nice to stay in a homely environment. It was quiet and very comfortable. We felt welcomed and the breakfast was more than enough! Nice food and our dietary requirements had been catered for. We would recommend Topside Inn to our friends and family and it would be nice to stay there again!

After sending off number 5 and 6 to college it was time for my husband and I to enjoy some much needed time together. We looked at many B&B's with the main criteria being clean, non-Victorian, spacious and somewhat modern. We live in a very rural farm area and traveling to the sea we wanted to experience that feeling and not be overwhelmed with heavy outdated decor..a basic egg on a plate and hosts that were exhausted from the summer season. Our decision to stay at the Topside Inn proved to be fortuitous! Not only was the Inn beautiful, spacious and clean...but well thought out. After staying in many B&B's and finding ourselves stranded at night without a hot cup of tea or something to nibble on this Inn was a beacon in the night. As silly as that sounds it truly added to our experience and made us feel like guests instead of a room with a price tag attached. Our hosts could not have been more gracious and entertaining..Brian answered our questions with interest and asked us how our visits to various area landmarks had gone. This impressed us as the Inn was booked solid and all guests were busy with interesting things to do. We met repeat visitors that had been coming to the Inn for years with great anticipation. The area is gorgeous with lots of shopping, recreation and food. We cant wait to come back for a visit. Our advice is to try and book a room in the main house as these seem the most up to date. Although the other buildings on the property are nice, the main house is tops. Well situated with a bit of a walk up hill you can catch a ferry or easily walk to town for a lobster dinner. Loved our visit and cant wait to come back!! Ed, if you were not already in a relationship and I wasnt married I would ask you to marry me...what a chef!!!!

Undoubtably the best B&B in town. You will not be disappointed. The owners obviously love what they do. Great food and staff. Plenty of parking and a two block walk to town. Room 7 on the third floor has an amazing view of the harbor. Topside is rated #1, and deservedly so.

This was our first time back in 5 years and it was just as good as we remembered, with some smart upgrades. Room #14 is still the best: corner top level room with perfect views of the harbor. The room felt fresher, and we loved the addition of the charging station/shelf - every hotel room should have this! The main house mini renovation is also smart, with the main desk office at the back so people can walk directly to it from the parking lot. They also renovated some of the kitchen and dining area, and there is now an outdoor deck with a few pub tables and chairs. The hospitality is still great; Brian is very welcoming and friendly. And breakfast is top notch, no need to go in to town when you have have a great meal here: great coffee, granola, fresh fruit, and yummy hot meals (sweet potato waffles with sausage? Yes please). They also have wifi now, didn't work in our room but worked very well in the main house. I was actually fine with it not working in our room, made me disconnect for a bit and just enjoy the view.

Its a very lovely and peaceful place to relax and enjoy the secenery and the wonderful breakfasts they prepare every morning its a wonderful surpise what will be on your plate. The house made granola is the best they should market it. I would recommend it to everyone who is going to maine to stop at boothbay and stay there

This inn will exceed all you expectations! Extremely well appointed in a quiet manner.... Reading glasses nestled in basket by magazines, blankets rolled by the rocking chairs for cooler nights, basket of sun tan lotion if the need arises. The innkeepers have embraced of comfort and care. The breakfast is sumptuous and the decor is quietly inviting. You will remember your stay here for years to come.

My wife and I went to our first bed and breakfast for our 30th anniversary. The stay exceeded our expectations! The breakfast was top of the line, the place was spotless. Brian and Ed thought of everything. From the suntan lotion, bug spray and blankets on the porch to the umbrellas in case of rain. We will definitely go back!!

Warm welcome from Brian and Ed. Spotless room with marvelous view of the harbor. Ed and Brian have seemingly thought of everything. Their recommendations were spot on. Ed's breakfasts were great: rich locally brewed coffee, home made granola and fresh fruit, and an innovative hot entree. Everything you would want in a B&B and more. We will return soon.

I have spent many an evening in a Bed and Breakfast without ever feeling at home . . . but not in Boothbay Harbor. The Topside Inn is truly my best bed and breakfast experience . . . Not only did I stay in a number of different rooms, I was absolutely delighted to see that while each had its' own decor and personality, all were equally clean, well maintained and stocked with all that was promised. And that VIEW . . . you cannot escape it, no matter where you look and each view just a bit different than the next. As to the food . . . delightful! Packed at breakfast . . . everyone scrambling to be seated for the morning's delightful presentation. Served with a wondrous visual that is only surpassed by how good everything tastes. Perfection! The Innkeepers . . . Brian and Ed were like family within minutes . . . nothing but smiles and an "at your service" attitude that extended to all hours and no doubt, all manner of issues (although, no issues ever arose to test my theory). The grounds, rooms, views, food and all that makes the Topside Inn that truly special home away from home in Maine are without parallel . . . When the place you hang your hat while visiting a special place, becomes a significant part of what makes your visit that much more remarkable, then you know you have arrived. And The Topside Inn . . . perfect!
5 on July 29, 2013
We couldn't have picked a nicer place! Brian and Ed were so accommodating. The attention to detail was amazing. They thought of everything! The Inn is in a perfect location--within walking distance to everything you could want. We will definitely come back to the Topside Inn!
4.8 on July 28, 2013
The view, stunning. The innkeepers amazing. The breakfast scrumptious and plentiful. But what really makes the Topside Inn is the incredible attention to the smallest detail. Things you don't ever realize you'd like to have are there. Wine glasses, a wealth of wine openers, ice buckets, not just for the room but to chill champagne or a good white wine. Snacks, cocktail shakers, books, wifi, abundant outlets to plug into without having to search, comfortable chairs both in the rooms and in the common areas. Books and magazines throughout, a myriad of bug sprays, blankets, and lawn games, and yes, for the rainy days, umbrellas to help you stay a little dry on the walk to town (yes, they are located within walking distance to almost anything you'd want to see). Brian and Ed are also such amazing hosts that they never hover but seemingly show up just when you need a hand or have a question. I cannot say enough good things about the Topside Inn. The only downside to me, and believe me it's small, is the walk back UP the hill from town...the last 2/10 of a mile are up a grade that would make a San Francisco resident blush, on the other hand, walking off a great meal makes even those excesses seem ok.
5 on July 27, 2013
Everything about the Inn and our experience there was perfect from the service, the rooms, the views to die for from the bedroom, the great cross breezes and the incredible breakfasts. There is nothing you could want that isn't already there waiting for your use and enjoyment. I can't imagine a better experience unless it was a longer stay. So glad this was the last stop on our journey as no other even compared.

My husband and I needed a peaceful place to get away and truly relax. Topside was the perfect place. The room was so clean it felt like the first time anyone had used it. The landscape was beautiful and had quiet and private places outside to sit and enjoy the beauty. Brian was so welcoming we almost felt like we were coming home, There were snacks and fresh cookies available as well as glasses and dishes for personal use. The breakfasts were delicious and beautifully presented. It was a short walk into the cute town where you can find cute shops and good restaurants. For us it was a perfect get away.

This is the perfect Maine in. Great breakfast, immaculate grounds and rooms, and a view the can't be beat. A short stroll down the hill brings you to the docks, shops, and restaurants. The inn keepers were very accommodating but not smothering. I can't wait to return to Topside.

Just stayed at Topside Inn to celebrate our anniversary. We enjoyed everything about this location. You are treated special from the moment you arrive. The location is just a short walk from downtown. The accommodations are clean and wonderfully decorated. The food was delicious. They pay attention to every detail. Brian was always available to answer any questions or recommendations about the local area. No need to look at any place else to stay. Topside Inn is the best! Thank you Brian and Ed for your efforts to make everyone who comes to stay feel welcome.

Fantastic view and perfect location. Very short walking distance to town. Located on a short hill away from the hustle and bustle of town! Entire room was very clean. Linens were exceptionally clean ... felt like we were in our own home. The lemon pancakes at breakfast were delicious! Several flavors of coffee and goodies always available. Would love to live there permanently. A neighbor recommended Topside and I'll be recommending Topside to everyone I know! Thank you so much for the fantastic time.

This was our first experience in a Bed/Breakfast. The Inn was well located with ample parking. The proprietors were warm and helpful. The room was "beachy" decorated and clean. You could almost feel the the old world charm with fishing boats returning from the sea. Breakfast and the other amenities were great.I would not hesitate to return on my next trip to Boothbay Harbor. This was a excellent place to relax and watch the world go by!

Ed and Brain (innkeepers) operate as a very professional BB with a Personal Touch. The food was outstanding, the rooms very clean, the location to within walking distance excellent, and the service was commendable. My wife and I have been to many BB's and this was by far our best experience. Cant wait to go back.

My daughter and I just recently made our first visit to Boothbay Harbor, and we were very excited. We had found the Topside Inn on the internet, and it looked so lovely, we decided it was just what we were looking for. The only bad thing was the weather, which continued from drizzle, to downpour, to heavy fog from pretty much from the moment we arrived. Nevertheless, we had a lovely stay and that was in good part to the gentlemen at the Topside. The place was beautiful and even if we couldn't sit on the terrace to enjoy our wine our coffee, we did manage to get cozy in front of the fireplace with our books! The staff was always gracious and anxious to help out, and after we returned soaked and wet from kayaking in the rain, the complimentary coffee and cookies tasted like heaven. Not to mention the shower! (Our bathroom had been described as "modest", which it was, but it was SPOTLESS and since there was abundant hot water, it was pretty much perfect.) The location of this place was great, so we did a lot of walking after the delicious breakfasts served by the staff, another one of the pluses of staying at the Topside. Anyway, thanks to the staff and their lovely inn, we had a lovely time, despite the rain, and would love to come and stay again - this time when it's sunny! MG from Westford MA

We just finished up a 2 night stay at the Topside. Check-in took less than 5 minutes and check out was even faster. In between, we got tips on where to go and what to do. We had cookies and snacks available throughout the day, and in the mornings we had fantastic breakfasts. The location of this B&B is probably the most ideal in town. It's on top of a hill overlooking the bay, very close to the piers but on a very quiet road. The rooms were quiet and comfortable and we had a nice porch that we sat on in the mornings with our coffee. If we return to Boothbay, this in the only place we'll stay.

Our stay was mid June 2013. Brian and Ed are fantastic hosts. They are extremely knowledgeable with regard to the surrounding areas and what to do. The rooms were well kept, nice and clean. The breakfast was superb; we had something different every morning that was fabulous! We will be booking another stay with them. It was everything we hoped for and more!

Brian and Ed are wonderful hosts. They have put a lot of love into their B&B and it shows. Room 6 was beautiful and immaculately clean. The room had cross ventilation and there was a sea breeze through the windows. The view from our room and the sitting area just outside it was unbeatable. The Inn is located in a quiet location 1 block off the main street. The food was great.I can't think of any area that was less than top notch. I recommend The Topside to anyone visiting the area.
5 on June 14, 2013
A genuine family atmosphere for adults. Sit in the common room and listen to the gasps of astonishment as arriving guests see the Inn for the first time. I have seen people standing on the deck transfixed on the harbor muttering over and over 'the color'. Brian and Ed are the true draws as they just make you feel so relaxed. Must be experienced.
5 on March 28, 2013
We had a great week-long stay at this Inn. The location was perfect: away from the hustle and bustle of "downtown" Boothbay yet within easy walking distance of its resturants and amenities. It is overlooking the bay, surrounded by a well-tended garden, and its rooms are very tastefully decorated. Most importantly the two hosts made our stay all the more wonderful. They were attentive and helpful to their guests and ran things very smoothly. And every morning they served the most delicious breakfasts!

The Topside Inn is a great place to go to get away from it all! Aftera few days we were totally relaxed. Great food, great accommodations and great hosts!

Brian and Ed are awesome. I felt so at home. They thought of everything from umbrellas at the front door, to blankets, suntan lotion, and bug spray on the porch, and a dish of chocolates in the foyer always full. My favorite was the pantry with its coffee, juice, homemade granola, baked goods with jams and jellies, etc. And Brian cooked a different delicious breakfast every morning. YUM! We will definitely return.

Ed whips up the most delicious breakfasts and can only imagine what he will do in the new kitchen being renovated while they relax in Florida. They are a great team and on top of everything to make your stay a wonderful experience. Thanks again, guys, had a great time. Mary

We started the first days of our married life together honeymooning at the Topside Inn. This place had everything we wanted: breathtaking views from our 2nd floor bedroom, scrumptious sweet and savory breakfasts by Ed, fantastic recommendations on dining and daytrips from Brian, and a cozy lounging area with a fireplace. It was a perfect spot to visit in late September. We will be back to Topside!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners are friendly and helpful, the breakfast was delicious (love the homemade granola!), and the setting was perfect. The bathroom could have been a tiny bit cleaner (in the corners), but it was really not a big deal. Overall, the inn was clean and inviting. We would love to go back!
5 on September 16, 2012
We just stayed at Topside for three nights, and it was perfect in every way. It felt very welcoming, but also like we had our privacy when we wanted it. The view from the property is beautiful, and I wish I could have had an extra day just to sit in one of the adirondack chairs on the front lawn and look out over the harbor. Brian & Ed were so friendly and seem to have thought of everything, from the blankets and bug spray if you'd like to sit outside,to the snacks/freshly baked cookies available every day to the flashlights provided in each room. Breakfast itself was delicious—some of the best breakfasts I've had anywhere (chocolate raspberry french toast, pesto eggs, sweet potato waffles...each one somehow more delicious than the last). Another big draw for us was the fact that Topside, with its simple decor and muted shades of blue, gray & cream, looks like a lovely & tastefully decorated home that you might find in the pages of Martha Stewart Living, not a giant display case for every victorian cherub figurine and every scrap of Laura Ashley wall paper ever created. We would absolutely stay here again without a second thought.

My husband and I spent 4 nights at the Topside. I knew it from when I was a child and what a wonderful surprise to come back and find it to be OUTSTANDING! Its still the highest point in the little village of Boothbay which makes it removed from residual noise as you view the spectacular harbor. The guest rooms are immaculate and the attention to detail is beyond expectations. The hosts, Brian and Ed are the best...so friendly, very knowledgable and ALWAYS there to help. Ed is behind the fabulous gourmet breakfasts and baked goods and really outdoes himself. Brian is always ready for a friendly chat and helpful info. Thanks, guys for a fabulous stay...your INN is excellent and we can't wait to come back!

I spent five days in early July at the Topside Inn. I found it to be a beautiful home in a perfect location. It overlooks the harbor, and is a short walk into the port for shopping and dining. Brian and Ed are excellent hosts. They had directions available for all the places I wanted to visit. The hot breakfast was different each morning, and was delicious every time. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

I could sum our review of Brian and Ed's place as two words... "Stay Here". But I won't. I'll expand a bit and say that if we could be fortunate enough to be neighbors with the innkeepers it would be a blessing. They're great people and darn sure know how to run a BnB. Breakfast does not get better; you might get different, you might get odd, you might get gold flakes in your corn flakes - but you won't get better than Ed's cooking. Thanks, guys, for a wonderful stay. Unfortunately we can't be of any help by providing tips on what could be done better, because there's really nothing that could be. Just do what you d0. (oh - and room #9 turned out wonderful).

Recently we spent two glorious days and. Ights at Topside Inn. We booked this inn based on a BoothBay Harbor resident's recommendation and online reviews. We were not disappointed, and in fact, we wished that we could have stayed longer. We have stayed in many bed and breakfasts throughout the United States; Ed and Brian are the most visible hosts that we have ever met. They were always easily accessible and never grew impatient with our multitude of questions and suggestion requests. Their recommendations immediately proved to be honest and accurate. We stayed in Room 1 by the front door with a beautiful view through large picture windows of the manicured lawn, Adirondack chairs, and the bay. It is a very spacious corner room with picture windows on two sides. The room decor is classy, fresh, and contemporary, and there were two large leather chairs and ottomans in the sitting area overlooking the view. The good news about Room 1 is the convenience to the porch, lawn, and public areas. The bad news is that we were ony a few steps away from the home asked cookies and other treats! We were wondering if our location would be noisy, however, all the guests were considerate. We slept with the windows open and never experienced a problem with noise, and the inn was fully booked. The location is great, too, you can literally park your car in the inn's lot and not move it again. It's just a short walk to everything, and the inn is easy to spot because it is definitely "topside." Thank you, Ed and Brian, for a memorable stay!

My husband and I stayed three nights at the Topside Inn B&B. It's a great location because it's a minute to downtown Boothbay Harbor, but up on a hill so quiet and peaceful. Brian and Ed have excellent taste and the whole place has a clean nautical Maine feel. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Our bed was a dream... really nice linens and pillows! The breakfast was delicious...a big warm hearty meal with fresh fruit plates and homemade muffins. The place has a great view, and isn't so small that it's too personal - just the right size to get the comfort and quality of a B&B. We did not have one complaint. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the Boothbay Harbor area! (We live in Maine)

We had a great time, the owners are very friendly, and helpful. Our stay was very comfortable even though is was raining the whole time. Brian and Ed pay careful attention to the details and had umbrellas just inside the door if we needed one. We loved the view and the walk is just minutes to downtown. Breakfast was wonderful and you must try the homemade granola...delicious!! We are looking forward to going back next year and celebrate our 1st anniversary. We will recommend the Topside Inn to all our family and friends.

I discovered TOPSIDE INN B&B on the internet and reserved our October weekend stay in late May. Friday and Saturday rates were $195/nightly; Sunday rate was $175 excluding taxes. TOPSIDE INN B&B is at the perfect location at the top of the hill for a great view of the harbor and a quick walk to downtown Boothbay Harbor to shops and restaurants! This is a great place to stay if you have doubts about the B&B experience where you stay in the house. Here you can select from the many rooms in the large main house or in the adjacent "bunkhouse" buildings. We stayed in Room 8 in the "bunkhouse" which is on the lower level, excluded from all the other rooms. We had an enormous deck right outside our room that was very private and exclusively for our use. Room 8 was an extremely clean room with daily maid service, something you rarely find in B&B. A very spacious room with an even more spacious bathroom with double sinks! Very nicely decorated with wicker chairs and a table for 2! A small frig and microwave is also in this room. A hot breakfast was served in the main house each morning between 8am-930am. We loved the blueberry lemon pancakes with turkey sausage! The main house is cozy and comfortable with a fireplace lounge stocked with loads of games, magazines and books to enjoy! Also available for guests are afternoon snacks of cookies and/or crackers. Wine glasses are available for those who BYOW. Loved the Adirondack chairs in the yard - sooooo relaxing!

Great setting overlooking the harbor, can watch the sunset, rock on the front porch chairs, and it is an easy stroll into town. First floor room in the main house was huge and comfortable. Breakfast was delightful and the homemade granola with yogurt was excellent. The Inn is sparkling clean, relaxing and delightful. Brian is cordial with helpful suggestions for dining in town and a superb host. Stayed 2 nights in the fall. That's our top choice for Boothbay Harbor, and Boothbay area is a great place to visit. Highly recommended!

One of the most wonderful vacations of our 41 years of marriage. The Inn Keepers Brian and Ed, make you feel at home from the moment you walk in until you leave, ( and leaving is the hard part, you don't want to) the accommodations are fantastic and the breakfasts were wonderful (from the first morning on) from the homemade granola, to the fresh fruit and I can not begin to name all the wonderful main course each day. We will be back and soon. Thanks again Ed and Brian you do it RIGHT. Bob McLain

Room 19 is a great room with views, large bathroom, two sinks and the most comfy bed imaginable! It is very private located on the end of the Leeward building.

Our recent stay at the Topside Inn was wonderful! From the breathtaking views from our room to the lemon blueberry pancakes at breakfast we knew we had made the right choice! Our room was clean and tastefully decorated, and our favorite was the porch where we enjoyed the beautiful breezes & excellent views! We will definitely come back and stay again!

We just returned from our second stay at the Topside Inn in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. I didn't think they could exceed our expectations....I didn't think that was possible after having spent a night there before and experiencing exquisite food, service and views. After all, how could perfection be topped?? Well, they blew us away. I live in Maine and I do not for one minute, take the beauty of this state for granted...but this Inn is located in such a picture perfect setting that the beauty is just sometimes hard to believe is actually real. The Inn itself is stunningly gorgeous and meticulously maintained. The Inn keepers are friendly and very welcoming and the breakfasts...well, they are just totally outstanding. On this visit we were served scrambled eggs with a pesto-ricotta and sausage patty. Home made granola, delicious and generous portions of fresh fruit and yogurt were available as well as juice and coffee or tea. It probably was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. The rooms that we have had the absolute pleasure to stay in, were both in the main house with views of the bay. The rooms are decorated as you would expect a coastal, Maine Inn to be decorated, in a very classic cottage decor. The Inn is beautifully and tastefully decorated throughout and the rooms are so welcoming, the beds so comfortable and that fresh Maine air SO awesome that one thing I can guarantee is that if you stay here, you will enjoy the best sleep you ever had in your life and awake to probably the best breakfast you'll ever eat. I highly recommend this Inn and I cannot wait to go back.

Can i just say, this place is excellent! I cannot believe we didn't pay more for it, the place (even the grounds) are immaculate, our room was spotless and smelled exactly like ocean breeze. We could literally lay in bed and see the ocean. The main house has everything you would need, i mean they even have a basket of blankets and a basket of sunscreen and bug spray sitting on the beautiful farmers porch. They have cookies and snacks out at all times (while they lasted because they were delicious) and they have the most amazing breakfast. This is NOT your typical bed and breakfast, if you want to feel like you're paying to be pampered and receive extravagant services but your actually paying a incredibly reasonable price with beautiful views from everywhere, then please book here! We could only stay one night for a quick birthday celebration for my fiancé and it was not long enough, we will be back! Not to mention it is literally less than a five minute walk to downtown with tons of restaurants and bars and the foot path across the water to the other side of the bay, the town is beautiful and if you want to visit Booth Bay Harbor you will not be disappointed staying here!!!

My family just came back from a wonderful trip to Boothbay Harbor, Maine and stayed at the Topside Inn. We had a great time! Breakfast was wonderful! Rooms were clean and big. My kids had a wonderful time. Thanks to Ed and Brian. Everyday we had different hot breakfast, apple pan cakes, ...english muffin with scambled eggs, waffles.... Everyone, the host/guest was very nice and friendly. Will come back again!!!

Wonderful stay at the Topside Inn for the second time. Outstanding service and attention from Brian and Ed as well as fabulous breakfasts each morning. The Inn offers ample parking, great rooms, peaceful surroundings perched atop a hill with water views. Convenient to the village, harbor, restaurants and shops-all within walking distance. Highly, highly recommend the Topside Inn. Paul and Anne

Our room had a gorgeous view of the harbor. The location is just up the hill from downtown so the location makes parking a breeze since spots in town are hard to come by or expensive.

We travel to Maine often and each time we are in Boothbay we stay at Topside. Brian and Ed run a flawless establishment. The rooms are great, especially #4, and the gourmet breakfast each morning is a real treat. There is nothing better than relaxing on the porch in a rocker with a good book, and one, or more, of the inn's delecious cookies.

I recently returned to Boothbay Harbor after a 22 year absence and I’m not sure why I had stayed away. This charming village in the great state of Maine is a perfect relaxing get-away and the Topside Inn cannot be matched. I travel all over the country (staying in B&Bs) and the quality at this end is perfect. The Inn Keepers (Brian & Ed) are wonderful with the information they assist with (never steering us wrong from places to eat, sight-seeing as well as massages) and the breakfast (including a hot breakfast) was wonderful every morning. Sitting on their hill overlooking the harbor with a cup of coffee and a fresh baked cookie in the afternoon is the way to spend a relaxing vacation. (Okay, I actually had a cocktail in my hand, but that is just as pleasant.) I cannot recommend this place enough (although I’m afraid if I do, it might be completely booked when I try and return).

We left the blazing temps of Central Texas in August for a reprieve in Maine. Boothbay Harbor is a charming, beautiful, friendly place to vacation. The Topside Inn and B&B sits on a hill overlooking the town, with a beautiful view of the water. The room (room #1) we stayed in is the only one located on the first floor of the main house. I was amazed how quiet it was, considering it's directly off the common areas. It was spacious, very comfortable, beautifully decorated and extremely clean. The innkeepers, Ed and Brian, are wonderfully engaging. Ed is the master of the kitchen and whipped up wonderful breakfasts daily.....the apple pancakes were amazing! Brian is the concierge, desk clerk, waiter and "info center". Great guys who obviously love what they do! One of the local shop owners referred to them as "the best tour guides in Boothbay Harbor".....they are. Additionally, the staff at Topside are the happiest, friendliest and most customer-service oriented I have ever experienced in any type of lodging, anywhere. This place is a must-stay and I would highly recommend it and definitely stay here again! Michelle Croft Hutto, Tx

Our stay at the Topside was relaxing and fun. Ed's a great cook and Brian knows all the fun places to go. The owners make you feel very welcome - their home is your home. The views to the harbor were spectacular as we rocked on the front porch and the walk to town was quick and easy.
5 on August 06, 2011
We had a wonderful, restful stay at the Topside Inn. Breakfasts - overlooking the water - were delicious. Brian & Ed recommended restaurants -- all were perfect for us! Great attention to details.....bug spray available for guests and fleece blankets for sitting in the rockers on a cool evening...freshly baked cookies every afternoon. What's not to love?! Next time we'll stay a week!

We found Topside Inn on the internet and we will be coming back again. The view of bay is beautiful from your room. Brian and Ed are incredible hosts who took care of my gluten free needs. The rooms are very clean and well decorated. The breakfasts were so delicious and healthy. Who knew gluten free french toast could taste so good LOL I would recommend an upper level room for the best view :)

We appreciated the attention to detail in every way--comfort, cleanliness, decor, landscaping, views.

We were very favorably impressed with every aspect of our two night stay. The accommodations were spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated (although more "hotelish" than some of the more elegantly decorated B&Bs that we've visited), thoughtfully equipped and quite comfortable. The owners and staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The breakfasts were delicious. Walking distance to the harbor. They were quite helpful when we needed to change our reservation dates and although we had to book a different room for each night, the staff moved all of our luggage with no interruption in our plans.
5 on July 12, 2011
I can't recommend this wonderful inn too highly...stylish, spotless decor, delicious breakfasts, very hospitable hosts and staff, and the best harbor view (on a hill above town, but close to everything) in Boothbay.
4.6 on July 12, 2011
We loved everything about this place. The hospitality, the views, the smarly decorated rooms that looked like womthing from Pottery Barn or Crate & Barrel, and the proximity to shops and restaurants cannot be beat!

This was our 7th visit to Topside. We cannot fault their accomodation and service. From the minute you check in to the minute you leave you are treated with courtesy, the rooms are beautifully decorated and superbly clean, the breakfasts would take a lot to be matched and Brian and Ed are the finest hosts. We now consider them to be our friends rather than just our hosts. You will not be dissappointed. My husband and I chose Boothbay Harbor for a quiet getaway for our anniversary and the Topside Inn provided a serene and warm environment that met our desires better than we expected! Ed and Brian are terrific hosts, they are polite, helpful yet non intrusive, the inn is immaculate and the breakfasts delicious. We stayed in a corner room with a great view of the harbor. The Topside is at the top of a hill so the view is gorgeous, and we were able to walk to all the restaurants, shops and most entertainment in just a few minutes. We hope to go with friends in the future. We loved it!!

My boyfriend and I traveled to Boothbay for a wedding and stayed one night at the Topside Inn. We loved it! My boyfriend and I have done a lot of traveling across the US and stayed in many hotels, ranging from horrific to amazing. We fell in love with the Topside Inn and looking forward to returning. We had a cozy room with a queen size bed. The bathroom was small but provided all the amenities we needed. The ocean breeze is amazing and we never once needed the AC! The downtown area is walkable and so cute! Lots of art galleries and shops. Plus, you can walk to all the bars and restaurants with offer both indoor, outdoor and rooftop seating (love rooftop bars!) And you can't beat the view of Boothbay Harbor!
5 on June 27, 2011
We stayed in the main house in a HUGE room (#4) with fine views in two directions. The innkeepers were friendly/helpful and breakfast was wonderfully fresh & filling. This is a first class operation!! (Our only disappointment -- obviously no fault of the owners -- was the weather so we couldn't sit out on the porch & enjoy the sea air & fantastic view.)
4.0 on June 23, 2011
We stayed last minute at the Topside. We were driving through and just wanted to stay for one night. I had looked at the inn on a few different sites that had recommended it but did not make reservations. The restaurant we ate at that afternoon also recommended it - and we were lucky enough to get a room. The main inn is beautiful and clean.......... The inn keepers Brian and Ed were friendly and accommodating. They had everything there for you...from wine glasses to snacks etc.. very nice. The breakfast was also a cut above most we have had. A nice selection of different items to choose from and in addition, a hot breakfast special made for you when came in..not ahead of time. The room we stayed in had an okay view, to many trees that obstructed view. But it wasn't an issue, you just had to walk out front and sit in the lounge chairs in the yard or on the main house porch to take in a fabulous view. The room was one of the cleanest I've stayed in. Even the corners were clean. I am somewhat picky about cleanliness...this was really clean including the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable, didn't want to get out of bed in the morning. There was only one issue with this room..thin walls, you can hear... from the rooms next to you. But don't let that stop you. The Innkeepers and accommodations are first rate. Would definitely stay there again

Topside Inn was the last stop of our honeymoon and we loved it! We had the best view of the Boothbay Harbor fireworks on the 4th of July! The room was nice enough, we had one of the economy rooms not in the main house. It did get a little warm without air conditioning but we were there during a heat wave. We really enjoyed breakfast every morning and our hosts were very congenial. This Inn really had the best view of the harbor!

This B&B was exactly as advertised: it was a serene hilltop oasis that provided friendly service and unique rooms. It was our favorite B&B during our 18-day travels throughout New England. The breakfast of "green eggs and ham" was delicious, and we thoroughly enoyed the views from the porch and hilltop.

We went back for our second stay at Topside Inn in June. It was so nice to see how the inn has changed (newly remodeled living room, for example) yet still retain the charm and character that make it such a delightful place to stay. The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. This will sound silly, but I particularly enjoyed the fabulous selection of NEW magazines in each room - lifestyle, food, decor, etc. As a busy mom, I rarely get time to read; it was truly a pleasure to go through each and every magazine in our room in the downtimes between sightseeing and meals. Speaking of meals, Ed's breakfasts continue to delight (gingerbread waffles!) and the recently opened tapas restaurant, The Bistro, was the perfect place for drinks and dinner. Thanks, Brian and Ed... we'll be back! The Bessers

I stayed at Topside many years ago with my husband, but was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful changes made by the new owners. My daughter and I wanted a quiet place to stay after seeing the sights, and this was definitely the place. Beautiful seascapes, gardens and lodging. Absolutely loved all the pillows on the beds and special touches in the room. The relaxed atmosphere throughout the day started at breakfast. Good, healthy, specially prepared food from start to finish...came home with an awesome recipe for their granola! I hope to make this an annual getaway weekend with my daughter, who loved her mini-vacation. Thank you Brian and Ed!

Would definitely make a return trip to Topside.

The Topside Inn is the perfect location for a stay in Boothbay Harbor. It is a short walk to the commercial part of this charming harbor town but sits up on a hill so that one feels completely removed from the bustle of town. It has an amazing view of the harbor and the accomodations are very comfortable. The owners are extremely flexible and accommodating the breakfasts are terrific - best homemade Granola I have ever tasted. There are many inns in Boothbay but in my many walks around town, I did not see another option that was more inviting. It was superb!

We just returned from a three night stay at the Topside Inn, Boothbay Harbor ME. Everything about the Inn was wonderful from the view, to the hospitality of Brian and Ed. We highly recommend both the Inn and the mid-Maine coast. We plan to return next summer for a longer stay. The breakfasts are outrageous, especially the lemon blueberry pancakes are to die for. This is not your Grandmother’s country inn.

This is an outstanding place to stay. Brian and Ed are warm, welcoming hosts and have perfected the art of operating a B & B. The breakfasts are delicious with lots of choices. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Topside Inn - it exceeded all our expectations. It is a beautiful place with a wonderful view atop the tallest hill in Boothbay Harbor. Brian and Ed have gone all out on the "little things" that make such a difference - beautiful presentation of food (as well as being excellent in taste!), lap throws in a basket on the front porch in case it's chilly, wine glasses, etc. available to use at your convenience, beautiful landscaping, great hospitality by very interesting hosts and on and on. We were very pleased with our stay there and highly recommend it. I can honestly say I did not see another place in Boothbay Harbor that I would have preferred - I think it's the best place in town!

We have been staying at the inn for a few days every summer for the last four years. The owners are warm and friendly. The site is one of the most beautiful of the harbor. The wide veranda with rocking chairs makes a great reading and relaxing spot. If you want more action, you are within walking distance to most of the shops and restaurants in town. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Ed makes a fabulous complimentary breakfast each morning and the homemade granola is the best. Truly, Topside Inn is a major highlight of our time in Maine!

I hope heaven is like this... Checkout was at 11:00 am - we checked out at 10:57 - we were ready to leave at 10:00 but hung out on the deck admiring the view - which is fabulous.. We left, knowing we would be back. This is a fabulous spot for couples but also a great spot for a mother-daughter trip. Lots of craft stores to explore and sailing on schooners would be fun - unfortunately the weather did not co-operate so we didn't get to go sailing when we were there which is why we have to return. We were so relaxed - sitting out on the deck, daughter reading a book, I - sipping on wine, playing online poker - yes free wi-fi. and Breakfast - oh my - oh my - we stayed two nights - first morning breakfast was banana flambé french toast - you have no idea - it was the most glorious breakfast I have ever had. Next morning - tiny orange pineapple muffins that melted in your mouth - and a fabulous quiche. Now daughter (fussy) did not like this fancy cuisine - gawd - but she loved the fresh fruit bowls done up all fancy, homemade granola, yogurt and toast. Coffee was soooooooooo good.... Ed is responsible for all this fabulous food and Brian I believe is the details guy. The inn was all booked up for Windjammer days but everyone was well looked after by these 2 fabulous hosts. The place oozes of relaxation, style and cosiness. We met so many fabulous people from all over.

It is refreshing to arrive and feel instantly welcome and at home. We elected to stay in one of the two motel like buildings and were happy with the view and accommodations in every way. The room was "beach-cottage" and clean clean clean. The Inn Keeper Brian provided the wife and myself with good advice for dining and sightseeing ideas. The Inn is high on a hill just above the harbor and shopping areas and receives ample breezes to keep cool as there is no air conditioning to interfere with the natural feel of the grounds. There is nothing better than a genuine Maine sea breeze to make you sleep like a child.

Have stayed here on multiple occasions. Each time Brian and Ed have made everyone feel at home, providing an environment to promote relaxation. The breakfast alone is worth the stay, but the very clean rooms, available amenities and the feeling that everything has been taken care of make a stay so enjoyable. JAVO Flat Rock, NC

Incredibly clean, awesome view and great value. This is a prime location on a quite street within walking distance of everything in Boothbay Harbor. For what you would spend at a chain you could enjoy the quaintness of being home. We had not stayed at an Inn before and were a little apprehensive. From our entry this felt like being in our own home.

The Topside Inn is one of the most lovely places my husband and I have ever stayed. The location is gorgeous with sea and harbour views all around and just a hop to the wonderful restaurants and shops of Boothbay Harbor. However what makes the Inn truly remarkable is the warm welcome and fabulous ambiance created by Brian and Ed. The Inn is impectable, yet very comfortable with lots of cozy spots to relax; the rooms are beautiful, very nicely appointed, extremely comfortable beds and spotlessly maintained; and the breakfast they serve is second to none. My husband is a big breakfast guy and he is not that easy to please. He was thrilled with the breakfast we were served each day - fit for the king that he thinks he is! The homemade granola is to die for. You are served on a lovely sun porch and they keep fresh coffee, tea and snacks on all day. We can't wait to go back.

My husband and I got married in Boothbay last month, and our entire wedding party and family just about "took over" the Topside Inn. We could not have been happier with our decision! The location is stunning, the rooms are bright and clean, and the service is impeccable. And, what could be better than Ed's homemade granola and homemade lemon blueberry pancakes on the morning of your wedding?! Our stay at the Topside Inn was just perfect, and it made our wedding weekend that much more special. It is exciting to think that we will be able to go back to the Topside Inn for years to come and relive our happy memories!

A very comfortable, relaxing B&B. This is head & shoulders above other locations visited for lodging, breakfast, reading area, scenic locations. It's on the calendar for visits Spring & Fall for the Botanical gardens, costal towns,& Maine & Nat. parks Park.

What a wonderful place. Our arrival was earlier than anticipated therefore we took advantage of parking at the Inn and walking to town which is 5 minutes from the Inn. We were greeted by Brian whom was so cordial, and also told us our room would be ready by 12:00, which was not expected. The grounds and the interoir of the Inn were immaculate. At noon we checked in and were given a tour and shown the ammenities of the Inn all which were much beyond my expectations. From the smell of the fresh linen from my afternoon power nap to the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies after my nap to the morning breakfast which included fresh coffee, juice, fresh cut fruit, muffins, toast, granola (yum) & yogart, to the apple pancakes & sausage I can only say wow!!!! The only complaint I have is our one night stay was to short and I can't wait to come back.

I have stayed in countless bed and breakfasts in the U.S. and abroad and this is one of the very best!!! The location is unbeatable - atop a hill and quiet with gorgeous views but just a few steps from shopping and restaurants. Brian and Ed, the owners, are warm, friendly, and helpful but never intrusive. The food is creative and outstanding!!! The inn is immaculate and decorated in quiet and elegant good taste. Plenty of wonderful books to read and spacious grounds. This is a gem! I look forward to going back every year .

My wife and I stay here each time we come to Boothbay Harbor. I cannot say enough about the property. We have stayed in both the main house and the annex and both are great though we prefer room 1 in the house. Breakfast is superb and the innkeepers could not be more accommodating.

Really attentive service, restaurant quality breakfast, on a hill not a 5 min walk from downtown so convenient to town but yet somewhat removed . I hope I'll visit again soon. (7/09 review)

The hospitality, service, food, and ambiance of the Topside Inn joined to make the perfect setting to celebrate our 45th Wedding Anniversary! We will hold memories of our stay very close to our hearts for the next 45 years, at least! Margie and Dan Louney, Bedford, NH

The Topside Inn has what it takes to make your visit to Maine complete: excellent views, immaculate rooms and hosts that make you feel at home. Breakfasts are not to be missed. We highly recommend it!

This was our second anniversery, both spent at the Topside, That should tell you a lot, Excellent service and ambience. Great location. The window seat in #6 is perfect - thanks Brian and Ed! See you next year, if not before then.

By far, the cleanest Inn I've experienced to date with exceptional focus on details which made our stay restful, enjoyable, and fun. The view is out of this world from the lawn and rooms. Location is walking distance to many great restaurants. In my opinion, it was worth the rates advertised and very fair. The little touches, from blankets in baskets by rocking chairs on the porch, to binoculars handy to view the ocean, to cookies in the kitchenette to enjoy fresh at any time, made me not want to leave. Also, very close to a wonderful botanical garden - Coastal Maine Botanical Garden on Barter's Island Rd, make it part of your stay!

The Topside Inn was a fabulous stay during a recent trip to Maine. The whole inn from living area to dining area to the individual room was impeccable clean and extremely comfortable. Brian and Ed were more than willing to help us find out way around the area and recommend dining choices. The whole place was warm and inviting and I would not hesitate to stay here again in the future.

My husband and I stayed at Topside for our 27th wedding anniversary. We're from the west coast and we've stayed in many B & B's, but Topside is hands down our new favorite!! Brian and Ed went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant and comfortable. Our room was clean, beautiful, and had a breathtaking view. The breakfasts were magnificient and there were always snacks and drinks available. This charming inn is perched on a hill and is the perfect spot for a romantic stay. We can't wait to go back!!

My husband and I had a brief but wonderful stay at the Topside Inn. We had never stayed at a B&B and The Topside Inn was a fabulous place to have our first experience. Our room was immaculate and the linens were beyond fresh & clean. Ed & Brian were fantastic hosts. What can I say about breakfast? Outstanding!!!! We can't wait to drive up the coast and stay at Topside again - this time we will plan for a longer getaway.

It's not often you find home comforts on the road but this B&B is top notch! The inn keepers are so friendly and personable, the atmosphere is so relaxing, the views are spectacular .. I could sit on this front porch for days just gazing at the views! This B&B is a MUST if you are heading to Maine!

Absolutely wonderful place to stay. Conveniently located and a short 5 min. walk to everything Boothbay Harbor has to offer. On top of it all their breakfasts are wonderful with amazing granola. Highly recommended!!

The rooms were immaculate, the food delicious, but most of all, Ed & Brian, the innkeepers, were wonderfully gracious hosts. We stayed with our three children, 10 and under, and they loved it too. This is clearly the best place to stay in Boothbay Harbor!

Went to BBH in Aug '08, stayed at the inn. It was great! We had a party of 22 staying at the inn. Ed and Brian's directions were great. We pulled up on the side of the house and realized we had made a great choice. We then toured the rest of the property and we knew we made the right choice. Weather was not sunny each day but we hung around town and some of us hung around the porch or played games in the main house. Hope we weren't too loud. Each room in the main house was very tastefully decorated. The other two houses were much like you would find in a hotel room, but still very tastefully decorated. The food was delicious and the amount and variety quite satisfying. The inn was just 2 blocks from town and the harbor safe enough for the teens to walk around by themselves. Would definitely go back - with the large group, did not have enough time to just sit back on the porch and relax and soak in all the views.

My husband and I and my sister and her husband recently stayed at Topside Inn for two nights and had a wonderful stay. From the minute we arrived (the Inn’s directions are excellent), we were impressed by the welcome offered to us by Brian and Ed, the Inn itself and its numerous amenities, and the incredible views. We stayed in Room #7 in the Main House; the room was very comfortable with good light, quiet, had great linens and towels, wonderful view, and a clean bathroom with good water pressure. My sister and her husband stayed in Room #14 and it also was very comfortable with a wonderful deck to enjoy a bay view. The common rooms were welcoming, beautifully decorated, and touches such as coffee and tea throughout the day, wonderful homemade cookies in the afternoon, and glasses and a refrigerator for guest use were very thoughtful. Breakfasts were a treat and having the option of several cereals (the homemade granola is excellent), fruit salad, homemade muffins and rolls in addition to a hot breakfast offering each morning (pancakes and a frittata) were delicious. It is also nice that the dining area consists of several individual tables rather than one large communal table. Every detail of the Inn has been addressed to make guests feel comfortable and welcome. The inn provides plenty of separate areas to relax and its gardens are also beautiful. Brian and Ed provided excellent restaurant suggestions and were always accessible, even if they weren’t actually onsite. They never hovered around their guests yet they were always available. Their care and attention to the Inn and its guests are top notch and they make it look effortless – that’s no small feat. We definitely will return to the Inn and highly recommend Topside Inn.

We were so happy to stay at this B&B. It was right on the harbor with great rooms. The beds were very comfortable just like home. We were happy to have a tub & a shower. Breaksfast was very tasty. Would definetly recommend this B&B to anyone wanting peace & quiet.
