Charming, very well-maintained, spotlessly clean Victorian b&b. Breakfasts are individually prepared-none of those dreadful breakfast casseroles which are showing up in many b&bs. Susan and Barry are very helpful hosts-anxious to help their guests make the most of their stay in Bar Harbor.

Stayed in Glass Menagerie. Delightful room with window seat and private balcony. Didn't realize that "detached private bath" meant down the hall and passed the stairs. Not ideal. Bathrobes were provided but a badly frayed collar detracted from the otherwise class of the whole experience. Great food and convenient location. Susan and Barry are great hosts.

We have stayed here 3 times and have always enjoyed Barry and Susan's hospitality and wonderful breakfasts. The inn is wonderfully decorated, and lovingly cared for. Staying here will add to your enjoyment of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Perfectly situated on a quiet side street and only blocks from the center of Bar Harbor.

Barry and Susan were wonderful hosts. Breakfasts were great. Within walking distance to all of the shops, the harbor and restaurants of Bar Harbor. Stayed in two different rooms; loved both but, if you can, stay in the Winston Churchill suite! Highly recommend.

We stayed in the "Glass Menagerie" room. This room has a private balcony which is a nice place to spend time outdoors. It has two chairs, a table, and is accessed through a small door that looks like it is just another window. It has an awning to keep you dry.

Absolutely wonderful place to stay in beautiful Bar Harbor, Maine. This was our third visit to this inn, and we will definitely stay there whenever possible.

We had a terrific stay at Hearthside. The location is perfect, the room was great, the food more than excellent, and the hosts extremely helpful and friendly. When we return to Bar Harbor we plan to stay at Hearthside again!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hearthside B & B. Susan and Barry are great innkeepers. Susan gave us a great intro to Bar Harbor and the area. We stayed in the Winston Churchill Room; loved the decor and porch. When we mentioned we would be arriving in Bar Harbor fairly early in the day, Susan offered a 1 p.m.check-in which was fabulous. My husband was able to rent a bike from the shop just around the corner and get in a half day ride. Highly recommend this B & B, well priced, great breakfasts and excellent location (can walk to everything in Bar Harbor).

Had a Wonderfull stay! Susan and Barry were Great! Breakfast was great! The snacks put out were awsome and certainly a surprise! Great location, can walk anywhere. Also convienent to Acadia. Would certainly stay again!

We highly recommend Hearthside B & B if you are wanting a perfect location to stay in Bar Harbor. It's just blocks from dining, bike rentals, kayak rentals, the marina, grocery, and all the fun of the town, but it also has all the charm of the old town. The location is perfect for hiking and biking straight into Acadia National Park. Susan & Barry helped us plan our adventures, giving us the right combination of input and space to "do our own thing." Our first floor bedroom had a completely renovated bathroom and a nice, quiet deck to chill out during our down moments. We had a terrific stay and recommend it for others!

We had a lovely stay at the Hearthside B&B. The location is fantastic, walking distance to everything you'd want to do in the town of Bar Harbor. Susan and Barry go out of their way to make sure you have a nice time. Just one example, we happened to mention we were going to watch the sunrise from Cadillac mountain, and an hour later they showed up at our room with an extra blanket for us to use! They answered our myriad questions expertly (from where's the best place to rent bikes to what day was likely to have the best weather for whale watching). Breakfast was delicious every day, and they were very accommodating: when we had an early trip, they made sure we got fed before we left. The inn is comfortable and quiet. We had an amazing time in Bar Harbor and would highly recommend Hearthside to anyone.

Innkeepers were so friendly and helpful. Room was big and comfortable. Don't expect any TV.

We had a wonderful time. B&B was warm, friendly, inviting. Short walk from downtown shops & restaurants. Breakfast was phenomenal every day. Barry & Susan were a great resource for information and recommendations, and they made sure our stay was comfortable. Would definitely stay here again if we return to Bar Harbor.

We stayed 2 nights during our visit at Acadia NP. Our hosts Susan and Barry were great, Susan has been very helpful in planning our activities and the breakfasts in the morning were delicious. Arrived on Thursday and left on Sunday. Susan and Barry are delightful people, very friendly, knowledgable about the area and they want to share their knowledge to enhance your experience in the area.

We really enjoyed our stay. Everything was spotless, and our hosts were charming. The bed was comfy, the room cozy, and we wish we could have stayed longer. The B&B is just a stone's throw from the center of Bar Harbor, but on a quiet side street with plenty of parking. We'll definitely stay again when back in Bar Harbor.

I just spent this past weekend at this wonderful B&B - - It is so-o-o conveniently located just 2 blocks from the restaurants, shopping area, and Island Explorer (free bus service thru Acadia National Park). Susan & Barry have been running this place for 25 years and are truly exceptional !

Hearthside was a great place for my husband and me to stay during our first visit to Bar Harbor. It had everything any great B&B would have such as clean and comfortable rooms, attentive service, delicious breakfast, and tasty snack in the afternoon. What made Hearthside stand out for us was the owners' personal attention to our needs. In our case they heard our interest in hiking and in exploring the nature. They provided us with perfect booklets and books, in addition to guiding us on where and what to do. We had the greatest time in Bar Harbor as a result. Thank you, Susan and Barry!

We stayed for 5 days and were very happy with this B&B. Quiet street but easy walk to shops, restaurants and bars, and convenient to Acadia. Great advice from Susan and filling, wholesome breakfasts and yummy afternoon snacks. I recommend it highly for value and comfort.

The title of our review says it all! When you find a place away from home, that feels like home, you keep returning. Barry and Susan work very hard to make your stay a truly delightful B&B experience. From the scrumptious breakfast, which varies daily, to the beautiful and comfortable rooms, you will love the Hearthside. Don't worry about where to eat or what to do in Bar Harbor or Acadia, Barry and Susan are always ready to help. This year we forgot to bring our fanny packs for hiking the trails in Acadia. Barry was kind enough to lend us theirs. Acadia has 52 miles of the most scenic and beautiful carriage trails just made for biking. The first year my wife bought a small book, titled "A walk in the park", that describes in detail, the many hikes available in Acadia. We use the book for each hike and record the date and our impressions of the hike. We have not found one we do not like. We could go on and on, but I think we will add more comments next year. :). P.S. Try the cold Chai tea at Jordon Pond, you will love it. Especially after a long hike.

My wife and I rode around New England for 12 days this summer and stopped at the Hearthside Bed & Breakfast for 2 nights. The accommodation, breakfasts, location and attention given to us by Susan & Barry were first class, I would recommend this to anyone and would definitely stay again.

We stayed 3 nights in July. Had a friendly and warm welcome on arrival. The breakfasts were delicious and well presented.

My wife and I stayed five nights and couldn't be more pleased with our stay. The location is idea as we rarely needed to drive since all activities were within walking distance to restaurants, activities and the island free shuttle service. The host were very attentative to our needs in both meals and offering assistance in the various activities to do both in and out of town. We always looked forward to the excellent breakfasts and afternoon treats each day. We had such a wonderful time that we are already planning a return trip next year.

This was my husband and my first experience at a bed and breakfast and we loved it. As soon as we arrived, early in the morning way before our check-in time, Susan and Barry were completely welcoming and excited to meet us. After recommending a spot for us to get some breakfast since the previous guests had just checked-out of our room, we came back from breakfast to find our room cleaned and ready and it was much bigger than i expected. With a beautiful big bathroom! Breakfasts were amazing, location was perfect and a close walk to everything yet on a beautiful side street, and in knowing it was our first anniversary, they graciously left a bottle of champagne in our room. Great value, great experience, and LOVE Bar Harbor. We'll definitely be back!

From the minute we entered the Hearthside we were well cared for. From the cleanliness to the delicious, creative breakfasts and the fabulous recommendations for restaurants and activities, Susan and Barry exceeded all of our expectations. The location is so convenient to Bar Harbor and also close to Acadia. We walked to the Village Green and took the FREE buses to the park. Our room was clean and quiet. This B&B is a truly wonderful place to stay. We hope to return!!

Nice B&B in a good location in Bar Harbor. The owners were very helpful, had a lot of information about what to do on the island. Breakfast was excellent and partially made to order daily. Would definitely stay again in the future.

Everything met pretty much my expectation. It is walking distance to scenic spots and restaurants. Very convenient. My only disappointment is that they actually do not keep any tea, coffee, or snack in the dining room after 21:00.

We had a great time. The innkeepers gave us great recommendations on trails and hikes. The room was very comfortable with a balcony and the breakfast was delicious!!

We have stayed many times over the past 25 years, and we are always delighted in all aspects of our visit. The accommodations are comfortable, furnishings are refreshed, and the hosts are tireless in their efforts to ensure our total enjoyment. Each day's full, hot breakfast is unique, beautifully presented, and delicious. We invited another couple to join us. At a lesser establishment, that would have been a big risk, but at Hearthside, I knew I would not fail to impress my friends and show them a grand time.

My wife and I have stayed here three times since we got married ten years ago. We parked our car and never moved it until we left. That's how close to downtown Bar Harbor this Bed and Breakfast is. They served a big breakfast every morning so you were fueled up and ready to go for the days hiking biking or other touring. Our last trip there was for our tenth wedding anniversary. Every morning a new list of guests would be out and everyone could see how far people had come to stay there. While we were there the guests came from, Germany, England, Loveland, Colorado;New Orleans, Louisiana; Mass and even a few from Maine. Almost every day a least three of the nine rooms were occupied by people who had been there before. If you wanted a better recommendation than that I don't know what it would be. We went back because that is where we went on our Honeymoon. We also went back because we were treated well and because of the excellent location. We plan on going back again for another anniversary!

This was without a doubt one of the best B & B's we have stayed in. Susan and Barry have tried to think of every possible need. Everything was excellent from the breakfast the the comfort of the rooms.

We stayed 4 nights at Hearthside and were very impressed with our room and the exceptionally nice innkeepers, Susan and Barry. Gourmet breakfasts!

We chose Hearthside based on its central location and it couldn't have worked out better. We were in the "Glass Menagerie" room, which had a detached bathroom down the hall, but that turned out to not be a problem at all, plus that room had a private balcony which was very nice. Susan and Barry are very friendly and generous, which made our stay that much more enjoyable. The breakfasts were excellent and are different every day. The inn is charming and well-kept and every room is stocked with old books. Also, it was very helpful that the inn is in the center of Bar Harbor, so everything we wanted to do in town was within walking distance. This is where we will stay when we return and we would recommend to anyone that they stay here.

This is a great place to stay if you want to explore Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The inside of the B&B is beautifully furnished and the breakfast good. My only complaint was that the rooms were a little cold at night and you couldn't make them warmer.

Susan and Barry were exceptional hosts, but not intrusive. They provided the little extras, for example you could order a brown paper bag lunch, a picnic, or lunch with rucksack for hikers. The place has character. It is centrally located in Bar Harbor, but quiet. The beds were extremely comfortable. The breakfasts are of a high quality and the quiche for breakfast on our last morning was just delightful to eat.

I am a repeat guest who has been staying at the Hearthside for several years. Always enjoyable, clean, quiet and comfortable - Susan and Barry are the best hosts!!! They are friendly and helpful without being intrusive and they are a fountain of knowledge about the park, the island and surrounding areas. Great intown location, close to everything! The breakfasts are always fabulous and LOVE afternoon refreshments - home baked goodies, tea, coffee and cool drinks; just the right thing you need in the late afternoon every day! Rooms are beautifully appointed and spotless - very comfortable and cozy! If anyone asks where's the best place to stay in Bar Harbor, I always say without missing a beat "Hearthside"!!!!!!!! Barry and Susan have accepted by wife and I into their home over 20 vacation weeks. My wife and I have vacationed for over 38 years and only stayed in a B & B prior to the Hearthside. I would never stay anywhere else in Maine. The rooms are spotless, the breakfast's are awesome and what brings us back year after year, is Susan and Barry. Such great hosts and friends. We spent three days in this gorgeous bed and breakfast in October. Ideally located, very close to the park, this charming bed and breakfast was a home away from home. The owners of this restored house, Susan and Barry made us welcome and comfortable. The front door is open 24 hours day, no need to worry about what time to come back. In the living room there is a nice library where you can borrow a book for the night or a map for your hike. In the afternoon there is tea, coffee and gourmet chocolate available, as well as cookies. The breakfast is sinful, freshly cooked and bountiful. There is always a couple of cakes, fruit, a main dish that changes every day (quiche, eggs Benedict, French toast ). I did not like the main dish available a couple of days (a matter of personal taste, not of inferior quality of the food) and Barry did not mind scrambling some eggs for me. They have a great Maine blueberry jam, worth a try! . The guests were not only American, but also from different countries in Europe, it was a very nice and interesting atmosphere. We booked the Winston Churchill room and we loved it. Roomy, cozy, with a fireplace and whirlpool. Toiletteries were available, as well as CD player with an assortment of CD’s, a bottle of water and chocolates. The room had small details I appreciate, like a small dish for the jewelry. It had also a small terrace. Everything was extremely clean. Parking is available in front of the house, no problem. Susan and Barry are a mine of information about the park and the area, always willing to share with the guests. They give really good advice about restaurants, hiking routes, driving directions… Value for price is good and fair. We hope to come back to Bar Harbor and definitely we will plan our trip around the availability of this bed and breakfast, for us is the place to stay.

As return guests, we obviously enjoy the Hearthside and do not consider staying at any other location in Bar Harbor. Susan and Barry are superb hosts and are truly concerned about their guests. They are a wealth of information on Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and can provide advice on where to go and what to do for any level of physical activity. We love the Hearthside and the innkeepers, we will be visiting again.

This inn is located on a quiet street in Bar Harbor. The innkeepers, Barry and Susan, were consistently friendly and helpful, though not intrusive. They provided excellent suggestions for activities in Acadia. The breakfasts were delicious: pancakes, waffles, sausage, cereals, muffins, breads, juices, teas, coffees, quiches, and other "little" dishes. Their dishes were easily some of the best foods we ate during our visit there. The rooms and bathrooms are clean, private, quaint, and well-furnished. I have no reservations about recommending this B&B to other people and intend to stay there again in the future.

This was the best B&B we have ever visited. The owners went out of their way to make our vacation enjoyable. They had great recommendations and were always available. The rooms were neat and very clean. The food was delicious and the owner (Susan) even made me my favorite iced coffee in the AM. I would highly recommend this B&B.

This is our 8th visit to the Hearthside. The reason we come back is Susan and Barry are what every innkeeper should be. They are warm, generous people, who really care that you enjoy their B&B, Bar Harbor and Acadia. They serve wonderful breakfasts and their home is spotless. Barry and Susan have an absolutely beautiful B & B in Bar Harbor. We have been staying with them for close to 15 years now and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. The rooms are beautiful, the food is great and the innkeepers are the best! Our stay exceeded any expectations we had from the photos and descriptions. Every detail from the beautiful decorated room to the gourmet breakfast. A storm and rain started that evening so we lit a fire. With the fire log blazing in the fireplace, the room was cozy and inviting. We stayed at Hearthside B&B for 4 nights at the end of September, and we highly recommend it to anyone. Susan and Barry are wonderful hosts who made us feel truly at home. Every little detail was taken care of during our stay at Hearthside B&B--the rooms were cozy and beautifully decorated, the common areas warm and inviting, and the breakfasts superb. Susan and Barry also went out of their way to prepare gluten-free foods for my husband who cannot eat gluten (including delicious gluten-free brownies every afternoon). Susan and Barry are also very knowledgeable about the area and all it has to offer; they are always glad to provide recommendations and their living room is filled with very helpful guides. Hearthside is also very conveniently located right in the center of town, but still hidden away on a quiet street. Bar Harbor is a beautiful place, and Hearthside B&B is a true gem. Highly recommended if you are looking for a quiet, tranquil, relaxing place to call your home while you are enjoying the beauty of this region.

It was our first visit to a bed and breakfast and the owners were pleasant and helpful with what to do in the area. The rooms were decent sizes and you could not hear any of the other guests. The B&B is on a quiet street within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. We would be willing to return!

This was a perfect B&B experience. The rooms were spacious, beautifully decorated, comfortable and immaculate. The beds were very comfortable. Bar Harbor and Acadia are destinations that rival any in the world and the Hearthside is convenient location from which to enjoy them. There is a wealth of information at the B&B and from the hosts to help plan sightseeing and take advantage of all the area has to offer. All this and we haven't even begun to talk about the fabulous breakfasts or the option to have a picnic lunch packed!

We absolutely loved our stay at the Hearthside B&B. Susan and Barry are the greatest -- very fun and down to earth. We took their recommendations on some really fun activities like kayaking and walking across the sand bar to Bar Island, as well as their recommendations on restaurants, and we were always pleased! We stayed for a long time and Susan and Barry prepared a different breakfast every day -- and every one of them was delicious! Afternoon tea was lovely, too, and there were yummy cookies and hot chocolate as well. Our room was beautiful and cozy (we snuck peeks at the other rooms and they were beautiful, too). The location is fantastic -- right in the middle of town but on a small, quiet street. We highly recommend this B&B and we will certainly return there for our future visits to Bar Harbor.

It was my wife's birthday. Like most guys I never know what to get or do. So I left it up to my wife Kim. She had never been at a B&B and wanted to spend her birthday weekend at one. After searching for some time online, it was suggested from another inn that i/we try Hearthside Bed and Breakfast. We are truly glad that the Hearthside was suggested. From the moment that we stepped foot into the grand foyer of the Hearthside we both knew that this place was going to be very relaxing, comfortable and cozy. Inn keeper Susan was a hoot.......very good warming welcome as well as having a great sense of humor. Her breakfast cooking was divine as well as the treats that she put out around 4pm for our enjoyment. Both Barry and Susan were very hospitable and we loved their stories of their years of experience as Innkeepers of the Hearthside. Our Room ( Romeo and Juliet ) was outstanding!!! We did however sneak a peek of the other rooms too and all were equally as elegant as ours was. Kim and I so enjoyed our time. We both rested well and were very comfortable with our soundings.........Thank you again very much for such a wonderful stay Barry and Susan Schwartz............we are looking forward to our next visit..........very soon........

Our hosts were incredibly helpful with everything from making dinner reservations to tips on the best places to hike. We felt right at home and the food was just amazing. Clean rooms, comfortable beds. No complaints. Really just a wonderful stay. I can't wait to go back!

This was our first bed & breakfast experience, and it could not have been better. Innkeepers Barry and Susan maintain an immaculate inn, and go out of their way to ensure guests are taken care of. Breakfasts are incredible down to every detail in the preparation and serving of breakfast. When I did not partake of a particular breakfast item, and they asked me why and I told thme I was allergic to one of the ingredients (cinnamon), they made sure that each morning there was at least one home baked item item for me to choose that was cinnamon-free, even to the extent of offering plain or cinnamon-raisi bread for their french toast. The room we had was one of their smaller ones, and while a little tight on space, it was comfortably furnished with warmth and imagination. We would definitely stay at Hearthside Inn again. Innkeepers Barry and Susan were also very knowledgeable about goings on in the area and how to get places.

The Hearthside B&B gave us exactly what they stated on their card - "Wonderful Times and Treaured Memories". We stayed in the Prince Albert room. They have afternoon tea and snacks at about 4pm and refreshments available until 9pm - which was not something we expected but a lovely treat - well we "Brits" do love our afternoon tea! The location was close to the town but on a side street far enough away to not hear the noise. Our room was on the top floor but was comfortable and very clean, with more than ample storage space. Although our bedroom did not have an ensuite the private bathroom across the landing was well laid out and worth the walk! Barry and Susan were extremely helpful and advised us on a local day walk at nearby Acadia park, and the packed lunches at $8 each were brilliant. They made us feel extremly welcome and we enjoyed sharing knowledge on the walking and sites to see back in our homeland of Wales, which they are keen to visit when they are next over. The whole place was very cosy, clean and inviting,and we also met many nice fellow guests during our stay, who were regular visitors. Breakfast each day came with plenty of choices and was always filled with good company around the large and homely breakfast table. We would highly recommend this B&B! and if we are lucky to re-visit, what is a beautiful part of the world, we wouldn't consider staying anywhere but the Hearthside when we return to Bar Harbor.

The Hearthside B&B was even better than those in Ireland, but very similar in hospitality and overall feel. We stayed in the Winston Churchill room. They have afternoon tea and snacks at about 4pm and refreshments available until 9pm. The location was close to the town but on a side street far enough away to not hear the noise. Our room was large, very clean, had more than ample closet/drawer space, a fireplace with a new log each day, a large personal bathroom, and a private covered porch. Barry and Susan were extremely helpful and have many useful resources to take with you on your daily outings. They always greeted us when they saw us, but it wasn't at all uncomfortable like some B&Bs can be. They let us store our bikes in the basement and we came and went as we pleased with the bikes. They offered to help us find parking if their lot was full, accommodated us when we had to leave early in the morning (we didn't even give them warning) by provding the hot breakfast quickly. They will also pack you a bagged lunch for $8 if you ask the night before. The whole place was very clean and inviting, breakfast was absolutely delicious and there were plenty of choices for picky eaters. Beautiful dishes, cloth napkins and matching silverware were a nice touch. The Eggs Benedict was to die for! I would highly recommend this B&B! I wouldn't consider staying anywhere but the Hearthside when we return to Bar Harbor.
