Cleftstone Manor

My wife and I had a great time in Bar Harbor and enjoyed our stay at Cleftstone Manor. The service was perfect, room was clean and breakfast was amazing. We'd return without question.

This Autumn we returned to Maine as part of a seven week journey. We looked forward to reaching Acadia National Park and hopefully returning to Cleftstone Manor. We had stayed at Cleftstone Manor four years ago and had a great stay at that time. Staying at Cleftstone Manor is special event. The proprietor makes one feel at home with conversation and a tasty happy hour each afternoon. Breakfast each day is wonderful--gourmet type food. The mood is so comfortable that it is hard to leave. One terrific feature is the location which places you within a few minutes of downtown Bar Harbor and the entrance to Acadia National Park.

I would come back again,close to Acadia,but a little far from town.Nice and quiet,bed was comfty,room was large.

We had a lovely room. Great breakfasts. Owner was very helpful with recommendations - sights to see, places to eat, she loaned out audio CD guide to Acadia Natl Park - driving tours. Very helpful. Social hour every evening was extremely nice - good company to visit with, great snacks provided - bring your own bottle of wine and enjoy an hour or two before going out for dinner.

First time staying at a Bed and Breakfast and I must say it was well worth it. We had a fantastic stay. The food was absolutely wonderful. I figured the breakfast would be mediocre but I was dead wrong. It was fabulous as well as large portions. Ann, the owner was also very helpful. with recommendations for things to do and places to eat.

The rooms were very clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. The breakfasts were huge, delicious, and different each day. The service and friendliness was great. My husband & I were very pleased with our 3 night stay, and would highly recommend this place. The evening "cocktail" hour snacks were tasty, and provided a chance to relax and chat with the owner and other guests. We had a wonderful weekend!

This was our second time staying here. We came back because of the very well prepared and nicely served breakfast, as well as the charming and roominess of the place. The evening appetizers and openness of the Manor. If and when we are able return to Bar Harbor, we will stay here once more.

Our room was large and beautifully appointed. The staff was friendly and the evening snacks were great, along with sun porch for visiting.

Wonderful breakfasts and a great variety of rooms. The Cleftstone is not located in the downtown area but is only a quick 10-minute walk. So, if you like being in the middle of the action . . . well, as much action as there is in Bar Harbor . . . this may not be the place for you. But other than that, this inn is a great place to stay. And only a few minutes from the Acadia loop road. Did I mention the wonderful breakfasts? The menu changes daily and each entree is fantastic.

Had a wonderful two day stay. Easy walk to town for dinner and close to the park trails. Staff were great, service perfect.

Great hospitality! Anyone visiting Bar Harbor should spend some time at the Cleftstone Manor.

This was my first experience with a B&B and I was extremely pleased. My daughter, who traveled with me, had stayed in B&B's previously and enjoyed them, so we made the decision to stay in B&B's on this trip. We were both very impressed with Cleftstone Manor. Staff were extremely pleasant, the food was wonderful, and overall it was a wonderful experience. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in Bar Harbor.

Very nice historic inn in Bar Harbor. Owner provides late afternoon snacks that are freshly made and taste great. Beds are very comfortable. Location is very convienent. Rooms are very pleasant. Some are bigger than others. I would have no problem staying there again.

Had a nice stay at the Clefstone over two nights. In Bar Harbor the Cleftstones was a good option; you have to drive in within a few minutes and it is very close to the Acadia National Park. The Cleftstone has nice and clean rooms but definitely is an old building. The breakfast was ok and it's a lot of food.

My wife and I stayed at Cleftstone for 4 wonderful days in Bar Harbor. The owners, Ann and Bob, have a beautiful old home that was a pleasure to stay in. The breakfasts were a 10 out of 10, the service was exceptional and the rooms were clean and well appointed. The location is so convenient to both Acadia National Park (right next door) and downtown Bar Harbor. It's a beautiful island and we would recommend Cleftstone to our friends without hesitation.

Cleftstone Manor is a real gem! I looked for the "perfect" B&B to celebrate the 25th anniversary with my husband. When you trust a website, verses personal recommendations from friends, it can feel like a risk. However, there was NO risk with Cleftstone Manor. From the minute we walked in the door and met Cheryl and received our tour of the fabulous estate to meeting Ann and Bob the Inn Owners we couldn't have been more pleased. We absolutely loved the Bruce Price room. The sherry and chocolates were such a wonderful touch. The electric fire place and wonderfully comfortable bed were so nice after full days of touring Acadia and Bar Harbor (which is all within 3 or so miles from the Inn). We took advantage of the Romantic Package and not only did we have a wonderful tour of the waterways, but the picnic lunch with champagne that Ann packed for us was great. We've stayed at many B&Bs. This was our 3rd one just this year. A wonderful treat and unique treat was Ann spending the afternoon appetizer and drink hour with the guests. Ann made wonderful treats and shared time with all of us - making us feel family not just guests. After just 4 nights, it feel nature to hug Ann "Goodbye" until we see her and Bob again. A wonderful 25th Anniversary for us. Thanks to Ann and Bob!!

Outstanding rooms in a victorian style comfort. Helpful owner who takes care that every one feels important. Hearthy as well as creative breakfast. One of the most beautiful B&B we've been close to Fundy Bay. Close enough to the action, yet very peaceful

Spent 3 nights. Ann, the owner, was very gracious and could answer any question we had about Bar Harbor. The food was excellent. The rooms were very clean and quite quaint. The staff was also very accomadating. If you want a great experience try the Clefstone

This was our first time staying at a bed and breakfast, and we really enjoyed it. Our room was comfortable, the food was fantastic and the staff were very personable.

This is a very clean and comfortable B&B with good warm breakfast, evening appetizer. No regrets here. Close to local restaurants & town.

We chose Clefstone Manor as our honeymoon getaway for four nights in Bar Harbor. The place was beautiful, and had nice touches like the sherry and chocolates in our room. We had chosen the room because of the fire place (which burns self-lighting logs, which they give you), and were delightedly surprised by the appetizers in the afternoon. We were by far the youngest people staying there (we're in our 30s) so we did not meet a lot of people at the appetizers/cocktail hour, but it was lovely nonetheless. We would recommend this place to anyone. Lovely.

I sincerely enjoyed my stay at Cleftstone manor. The owner was very welcoming and helpful on selecting a spot for dinner. Breakfast was delicious. I wish I didn't have to leave!

Such an interesting house, great hosts, lovely big breakfast, enjoyed the early evening receptions to meet others and enjoyed the appetizers provided. Great atmosphere! Lots to do in the area. We will be back!

The inn is located just outside of the downtown blocks, which isn't a bad thing, as the crowds downtown can be stressful. It's a beautiful old building. Like many historic buildings though, the systems (electrical, plus there is no central HVAC) could use some upgrading. This wasn't a big problem though. The bathroom had been tastefully updated with quality appointments. A sofa in the room was kind of dirty. Of course, this is largely due to the prior guests, and you can't launder a sofa. Still I wished that had been cleaned somehow. Breakfast was included and served in a nice breakfast room by cheerful and efficient staff. There was a choice of two main breakfast items each day, and they were varied daily. The menu was tastefully chosen and prepared and certainly was above the standard for breakfast included with lodging. I quite enjoyed that and it conserved time and was more comfortable to simply walk down the hall to get breakfast than it would have been to drive to a place and then possibly wait in line every morning All in all I enjoyed my stay there and though it wasn't cheap, it offered a square deal in the prevailing market for accomodations in Bar Harbor.

I enjoyed my stay at Cleftstone. I staff was very friendly and accomodating, the food was excellent and the rooms were spacious. There is also cocktail hour from 5:30-6:30pm were hor dourves are served and the ower, Anne, comes out to talk to the guests. It is about 5 minutes from Bar Harbor. The road it a little busy, but other than that is was a nice area. There is a bus stop at the college across the street that will take you into town for free. I would definitely recommned this B&B for anyone looking for a nice, relaxing place to stay near Bar Harbor.

We stayed at Cleftstone over the Labor Day wkend and it was a wonderful experience. When we reserved two rooms all that was available at the time were smaller bedrooms on the third floor which met our expectations and were very clean and comfortable. The inn itself was lovely...we enjoyed sitting in the living room one evening and another evening visited with Ann during the cocktail hour in the sunroom. The breakfast room was bright and cheery, the breakfasts were so delicious, presented impeccably, and the waitstaff was as pleasant as could be. The inn was within a mile or so of downtown Bar Harbor so it was very convenient. Ann and her husband do a wonderful job. We would not hesitate to stay there again...and of course the views in Acadia National Park are spectacular.

We had a wonderful time at the Cleftstone. Anne was so helpful in finding places, making reservations at restaurants that are hard to get and making the most delicious breakfast. What is nice is she asks the night before that way you know there will be enough for all visitors. And she has side items. The place was clean easy to find and centrally located. When we are up there again we will stay with her.

Anne is just a great host. I told them that the service and the food was as good as I have ever had at any restaurant. Great location and even though I did not take advantage of the pool we did have access to the one at the Bluenose Inn. We had a room with a detached bath but the price reflected that. Really a 'First Class' stay.

we stayed in 2 rooms, the first was fine. although, i expected a better mattress and much better bed linens. the second room was below par. the windows faced the parking and entrance to another establishment. so, they could not be opened without street noise. when we turned on the air conditioner, it sounded like a jet engine taking off! we could not use it. the mirror in the bathroom was discolored, making it difficult to use, could not see. as with the first room, the mattress and linens were below par. glad we only had one nite in this room. with the above being said, the staff and owner were very welcoming. the food was great! the location was convenient.

After much searching we chose Cleftstone Manor for our 35 anniversary trip. We were not disappointed!! Anne & Bob were greta hosts. Anne took time to sit with us almost every day and just talk. A delightful B&B!!

Had a nice stay at the Clefstone -- two rooms over two nights. The staff was exceptional, the breakfast was great, and the rooms were as pictured. However, I couldn't get hot water in the bathroom while staying in one of the rooms in the third floor.

We stayed only one night in Bar Harbor and this B and B was a good option. It's not right in the town but there is a trolly loop that's nice or you can drive in within a few minutes. The room was nice and clean. The bathroom was large compared to a lot of B and B's. The water pressure was ok although the shower nozzel had seen better days.. The decor and style are not to my taste. It's very "grandmaish" if you will. The wall paper and carpet are just too busy for me. They actually clash on the second floor. The towel racks don't match in the bathroom. It's little things like that. The common areas are nice and there is a social hour in the afternoons. The breaktast was good and it's a lot of food. It's certainly an option if you stay in Bar Harbor.

Anne & Bob are very helpful, friendly, & easily accessible. The Cleftstone is relaxing, comfortable, & convenient to Bar Harbor restaurants & shops & to Acadia. The food was plentiful & yummy! Wi-fi service was not dependable, but we didn't really need it. We would stay here again!

My husband is lactose intolerant and they went out of their way to make breakfast dishes that he could enjoy and that were delicious. Excellent service and wonderful ambience.

We stayed in the Reginald deKoven room which was nice because there was only a room on one side of it. That being said,for an old home it was quiet! The breakfast was superb, the accomodations very comfortable, and the service was fantastic! You can tell everyone there takes pride in their work, it shows in the way the guests are treated. I definitely would stay here again and recommend it to anyone I know.

The combination of the intimacy of a B & B combined with the amenities of a 4 star hotel is outstanding. I would definitely stay here again. However, I thought the front desk manager was not very friendly. She met our requests, but I always felt like it was an inconvenience to do her job.

We had a wonderful time at Cleftstone on our Honeymoon! The room we stayed in (The Cleftstone) was beautiful, the pictures don't do it justice. It was very romantic and beautifully decorated. The staff and owners are all extremely friendly and helpful making sure everyone was comfortable. The breakfast was excellent every morning, great options and always extremely fresh and filling! I would stay again, it was a beautiful place and everyone made you feel very welcome!

We spent the first two days of our Bar Harbor vacation at another B&B that exceeded our expectations in every way so when we checked into Cleftstone Manor the owners had a hard act to follow.....and overall we were very satisfied with the service and our room.....and delighted with the food. The breakfasts were truly outstanding and the snacks at tea just delicious...and very generous portions! Ann is an outstanding chef and a good host. We felt welcome. We rented the Woodbury Park room which is one of the four superior rooms offered. It was advertised with a "private balcony" which turned out to be two plastic chairs sitting on a wood platform (looked like a large pallet) that sat on the roof....the roof area had rotten timber in some spots and overall was not a place where one would want to sit and enjoy a drink.....nor was there any view to enjoy. The private balcony was one of the reasons I rented this room so I was disappointed. I said earlier the food was outstanding and it was. One small improvement would be to provide HOT coffee in the Abbe room before breakfast. Although coffee was provided it looked like a hot pot was mixed with left over coffee from the night before which made the early morning cup cool and non enjoyable. The second area that was less than satisfactory was the outside of the building...it looked very tired. Overall our stay was satisfactory and if you're looking for outstanding food I would highly recommend staying.

Celebrated with my twin brother our 60th birthday at the Manor. Proprietress Ann was terrific, she was right on in her recommendations for local dinning, and is an EXCELLENT breakfast chef. We felt at home, just as John D. Rockefeller did when he stayed here many years ago. I WILL stay here again, trust me.

Charming Victorian atmosphere. Afternoon social hour was an unexpected treat. Breakfasts were different each of our three day stay and were delicious! Host, Anne was very accommodating.

The inn is an old victorian style building, with lovely sitting areas, great porch and well appointed rooms. It's about a mile from the busy Bar Harbor stores and restaurants, so it is away from the hubbub. It is on the main road, so we didn't keep our windows open at night. The breakfasts were excellent - always included fruit and juice, and a choice of a higher protein dish, or more carb oriented. Anne is a friendly, helpful and down to earth inn keeper. If we go go the area again, we would look forward to staying at the inn.

Quaint lodging in a great location. You could take a quick drive into town or the Park, or walk or ride your bike to either as well. All the people were very friendly & helpful, making for a nice stay. Breakfast was nice and you had a couple of choices.

Accommodations were great and the hospitality of our hosts was outstanding. The ambiance, decor, and cleanliness of the whole Manor (and our room) were outstanding. The afternoon "happy hour" of networking and hors d'oeuvres gave us a chance to meet new friends and have interesting conversations with other guests.

Anne was very helpful in helping us enjoy Bar Harbor, her food was excellent and the evening snacks were tasty and the conversation interesting. The room needed better A/C - it was a bit damp and musty, could use new sheets. The staff kept the room clean and we enjoyed the treats they left. Anne works hard to make your stay pleasant. Thanks!

My two daughters and I recently stayed at Clefstone Manor and enjoyed it very much. The room was very cozy and inviting and a wonderful place to relax after a busy day. The breakfasts are quite delicious and filling. We also enjoyed the afternoon hors d'oeuvres, and chatting with other guests. It is clear that Anne enjoys cooking delicious food for her guests. We would highly recommend this B & B!

My husband and I stayed at the Cleftstone Manor in Bar Harbor for our honeymoon and were not disappointed. Our room was spacious and meticiously clean. Anne, the owner and chef, makes such creative and delicious breakfasts that Im worried my husband will be disappointed when I'm the one cooking! The staff was friendly and very accomodating. We recently visited Bar Harbor and other coast villages of Maine and found the Cleftstone Manor to be more like a hotel and less like a B&B. There are many rooms here and things were just OK. If I were to go back to Bar Harbor I think I would find another B&B to check out. The breakfasts were good and Ann was very nice. Compared to the three other B&Bs we stayed at while along the coast this one was our least favorite. Also, I had many problems with the Wi-Fi working in the room I was staying in. Overall a fine place to stay, but I would try others before going back to Cleftstone Manor.

Our stay at Cleftstone Manor exceeded our expectations. The owner, Ann, and her staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We stayed in the John Clark room, which was beautiful. One of the things that impressed us the most was the delicious three-course breakfast that was served in the dining room every morning- a wonderful bonus to our stay! We also enjoyed access to the pool at the in next door, and taking a dip in the morning was a nice treat. We parked our car in the Inn parking lot the day we arrived and then never moved it throughout our stay- the shuttle stopped right across the street but we ended up enjoying the short walk to town more often than not. All in all, the value that you get for your money here is fantastic and we can't wait to go back!

My husband and I stayed at Cleftstone Manner for 6 nights in late July 2012, and we loved everything about it! Ann, the owner, was a wonderful hostess and very attentive to our needs, not to mention a great cook. We stayed in the Pulitzer and loved our private entrance, and small outdoor sitting area. The room was very spacious, and very comfortable. We are early risers, so we're not bothered at all about the kitchen being beside our room, never found it to be a problem. Had to use the stairs to get into the tall bed, lol, but I am short. Bed was very comfy with nice soft sheets and plenty of pillows. Also enjoyed the free wifi in the room, and ability to store snack, lunch food in the small refridg in the front office area. All of the staff were extremely courteous, friendly, and helpful. Great location, a little walk to downtown Bar Harbor, or bus ride is available. We also took advantage of the pool accommodations both indoor and outdoor at the Blue Nose Inn which is right next door, this was a nice benefit, very swanky place and we had the pool to ourselves most times. Can't say enough about this great little spot, quaint and convenient, nice people, great accommodations, great food, and of course the best of Bar Harbor right at your door. We highly recommeend, and will definitely plan to go back!

A superb B & B. Our room (Woodbury Park) was spacious and clean. Large bath with jacuzzi tub and very comfortable bed. Anne was great with suggestions on things to do and her breakfasts were outstanding! She and Bob had everything we needed. The staff they employ was very courteous as well and very attentive. Highly recommend a stay at Cleftstone Manor!

The Cleftstone Manor is a wonderful B & B located in walking distance to downtown Bar Harbor. The chef is very creative and the staff is friendly and courteous. It was a great experience for my husband and I which completed our vacation in ME.

We stayed for two nights while exploring Mt Desert Island and enjoyed our time at Cleftstone Manor immensely. It is a beautiful property, well maintained and comfortable. Anne, the proprietor, was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious. Location was very convenient. Don & Terri Coustan

The Inn was beautiful, Ann was quite the host! We had a lovely room on the 3rd floor, with gifts from Fiore, and complementary sherry and Ferrero Rocher. Breakfast was divine. Our only issue was that even though it was air conditioned, and they so kindly provided a fan, it was still a tad warm up there.

We were very happy with our stay and the owner and staff were very frendly and helpful. I would reccomend this please to stay at.

Cleftstone is a first-class B&B. The owner is friendly and makes her guests feel as if they are family. We loved the breakfasts, but also the appetizer get-togethers in the late afternoon. We got to meet so many lovely folks this way. We would go back in a moment.

It was such a great experience. We got there after 8:00pm and we faced the notes and the key. I loved the whole mansion. Our room I guess was the smallest one with a bathroom outside. It was not the ideal case, but it was ok. I think if we could go there off season, the prices would be more reasonable. The most amazing part of this B&B was their breakfast. It was fresh and delicious. The staff were really friendly. During our breakfast one of them came to our table and gave us some hints to where to go and what to do. They made my first experience of B&B such a memorable time!

We stayed at Cleftstone for two nights, and while there isn't anything terrible to say about the Inn, we felt it was somewhat lackluster. It was pleasant, but not memorable. The breakfasts were delicious. We were in The John Clark room. It was nice, but there was a lot of wear and tear showing in the bath towels and couch, and a spider web (complete with spider) in the bath tub. Our biggest issue was the lighting in the room. The french doors, which afford a beautiful view, are covered with a set of thin metal blinds, which are bent and ragged. They do not block any light in the morning, so the sunlight streams right onto the bed at about 5:45 A.M. There is a broken set of blinds on one other window, and no blinds on the third window. The bed is super soft, and dips a bit toward the center. Now, I love historic Inns and everything that is unique about them. We were not offered any information about the house, which was fine, but mildly disappointing. It just felt like there was not a lot of pride in the property, and that everyone was just trying to get through the day. The Innkeeper was helpful with suggestions on what to do. When we checked out, nobody asked how our stay was, or if everything was ok. I felt like I paid for a top notch Inn, but I got mediocrity with a few embellishments.

We loved our stay at Cleftstone Manor! Everything exceeded our expectations. The breakfasts were delicious and the rooms were comfortable. The commons areas are beautiful. We loved the perfect location; it was right outside of town, taking only a minute to drive downtown. The only issue we had was with the hot water for showers. Several times during a shower, the water would get cold. But it would get hot again immediately, so it wasn't a big deal. Anne was extremely helpful. She didn't mind all our questions about restaurants and activities in Acadia. She offered us great suggestions. If we ever return to Bar Harbor, this is where we plan to stay.

Great breakfast, very accomodating staff, perfect location, near town, harbor and restaurants. We hope to return again, for our fourth time!

We enjoyed the whole experience. Anne was a delight and had very interesting history of the area. The inside porch was great; we played games there in the evening. We would go back if in the area. 3rd floor rooms are a tough climb. Great old house. Good location.

I would have given everything 5 stars, except that our bed was very uncomfortable. The room was nicely decorated with a beautiful oak bed and dresser. There were side chairs and a love seat. The breakfasts are wonderful. It is located close enough to town to walk to everything. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay.

Absolutely loved this b&b. Very clean, gorgeous room, hands down most comfortable bed we've ever slept in, the staff was very nice and accommodating, my husband and I did the romance package and I highly recommend that, we will defiantly be staying at the cleft stone again,

We stayed for three days while we toured the area and we felt at home. The sun room was especially nice.

We searched online for a B&B in Bar Harbor and loved the description of the room and location. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised of the beauty not only of the B&B but our room "Woodbury". The breakfast that was prepared was exceptional! If you are looking for a relaxing stay or even a romantic weekend this is the place to stay. We will be returning!-S.D.

Beautiful in a great location. Just a moderate wlk or very short drive into town. Cabs availailable for $5 also. We were in the Cleftsone room. Beautiful spacious first floor room...very quiet and private room. Excellent appateizers late every afternoon. Odd though, we never met the hosts of the inn, but the staff was very graciou8ls and helpful with tips, places to go and see, places to eat, etc...

My wife and I stayed at Clefstone Manor while visiting Bar Harbor, ME and Acadia National Park. We loved the place! We got a king size bed, complimentary Cherry liqueur with chocolates, breakfast, and hors d'oeuvre in the evening. The breakfast was always amazing, I can't stress that enough. My wife and I can say nothing but good things about their breakfast. Only issue we had was the bathroom with the tub is directly by the dining area and kitchen. The sound from the people working in the kitchen fills the bathroom. The hot tub did not work the first night and we forgot to mention to Anne till the last night we were there. She tried to get a plumber to look into it but it was too late. I was really pleased when we were checking out and she said she reduced our price for the 3 nights we stayed because of the tub. That's excellent service for you! I would recommmend this place to a friend for sure. Once again, breakfast alone was the higlight of our stay.

My daughter and I stayed in the Cleftstone Room for two nights at the end of June and everything was wonderful! The room was so spacious and comfortable, very comfortable bed, welcoming chocolates on the dresser, great water pressure/temperature in the shower. We liked being away from the center of town, it was more peaceful and just a short drive. Delicious breakfasts and yummy afternoon "happy hour" snacks (BYOB). Tea and coffee were available throughout the day, lots of thoughtful touches to make you feel right at home. Anne gave us great recommendations for dinner. Huge selection of DVDs available to watch movies at night, which we actually did one night after whale watching (sadly, no whales). Bottled water and snacks available for purchase at front desk, as well as a small fridge where you could keep your leftovers from dinner. The house is beautiful and so well maintained, and all of the staff we met were very friendly and helpful. This is an ideal place to stay if you don't want to be in the middle of the traffic jams and noise downtown. You can even use the pool next door. I highly recommend Cleftstone Manor, you're sure to have a delightful and satisfying visit!

Crossing Eden St, can be challenging on a holiday week, but the shuttle picks you up right across the street from the B&B, making it simple to get into town if you don't want to walk the half mile. B&B staff were very nice and helpful when asked recommendations. Went to one of the restuarants that Anne had a menu for, and it was outstanding!!!

My mom and Ii were making an East coast vacation trip. Bar Harbor was our northern most point. Clefstone Manor was just a it is pictured in their website. The host and hostess were wonderul. Breakfast was fantastic and the evening meet and greet was quite nice. Our room was quiet and restful. We were in the Kebo Valley room. My mom comment and the only negative we had was that there was very little place in the bathroom to put your toiletries. The town of Bar Harbor is a jewl that I would return to in a heartbeat!

Our room looked exactly like the pictures, and every day they cleaned the room and our bath room. Anne's breakfasts were amazing along with her appetizers. The restaurants that she recommend were perfect every night. Anne also had all the information for hiking around Acadia Nstional Park, guided cruises, and much much more!! We would recommend this to any couple!!!!

We had a wonderful stay for three nights. Everyone was very nice and the morning breakfast was out of this world. We had a great server each morning and we even took her picture and got her name for our scrapbook. It was close to everything downtown. The room was clean and neat every day. We stayed in the Joseph Pulitzer room. The room was spacious and very comfortable, especially the bed. The attention to detail amazing. Great, filling homemade breakfasts! Helpful and personable staff. We will go back!

We stayed in Kebo Valley room over Memorial Day weekend, our first visit to Acadia. We were very satisfied with our room, breakfast, and afternoon snacks. We enjoyed having access to the pool next door at the Blue Nose. The common rooms were comfortable and inviting. Anne was a gracious and helpful hostess. Clefstone Manor is not only a wonderful B&B, it contains within it’s walls the history of Bar Harbor and the many summer homes that grace the landscape of this charming town. Our stay was so comfortable and the owners shared the wonderful history of the original owner as well as the history of the property and how it has changed over the years. From the delightful breakfasts laced with local blueberries and fresh fruits to the relaxing gardens and evening appetizers, the welcoming warmth of this B&B is one we will remember fondly and look forward to returning to in the years ahead.

Overall, our one night stay was very comfortable. The room was wonderful (when we arrived we had been upgraded which was nice). The breakfast was very good as well. The only thing that was unpleasant was the service we received. The "owner" or front desk receptionist was not welcoming at all and completely unfriendly. We were disappointed about that but other than that it was a nice place to stay in.

We had a perfectly lovely time at the Cleftstone. Our room (John Clark) was very comfortable and I loved the fireplace. We would enjoy going again. The entire Manor is beautiful, cozy. Just what I wanted. My only critique was the breakfast. The food was delicious. What I want to say is not a fault of the Manor but rather my preference. For breakfast, I wished we had sat in the dining room with others at the large table and had an opportunity to chat with other guests: family style, or boarding house style. The dining room is gorgeous and beckoned to me of such a dining style. As it was we sat at individual tables in the kitchen/adjacent room.

Delicious, gourmet breakfasts! The Laura Blair room was amazing! We have never stayed in the same place twice in Bar Harbor, but that will change! We will definitely stay again!!

First experience with a B & B. Will definitely be looking to use B & B's in the future.

The breakfasts were great! The Inn is conveniently located only a couple minutes from Bar Harbor shops and restaurants, by car. We had one of the smaller rooms with a detached bath. Fortunately, the Inn provided robes so that you didn't need to dress just to use the bathroom. The TV in the room was small and situated on a table near the foot of the bed. The height of the table was too low in relation to the height of the bed for easy viewing from bed. If you wanted to watch TV from the sitting area, you had to move the table and turn the TV about 120 degrees. Perhaps a flat screen TV mounted on the door jamb between the bedroom and the sitting area would allow the TV to be viewed from both areas by just turning the screen. A small, very small inconvenience and would not keep us from staying at Clefstone Manor in the same room in the future.

I am so very happy my husband and i discovered Cleftstone! we have spent a lot of time in Bar Harbor over the years, but somehow missed this treasure! i hope to spend more time at Cleftstone in our future!!! It is so lovely, with all the beautiful furniture and fireplaces and dishes..books, etc! We were so well taken care of by the hostess /owner....she is so personable and friendly and helpful. Everything was amazing. Thanks!

The pictures online do not do this place justice. We were a little apprehensive but our room was very nice and had a working fireplace! The price was very reasonable and the food and service of the morning staff was great. They had a nice cocktail hour (BYOB) downstairs every evening which gave people the oppertunity to be social and get to know the other guests. Participation is not mandatory, but it was quite enjoyable to talk and learn about the others staying there and where they were from. The only slighty strange thing about this place is the innkeeper. Oddly, she is very nice and personable in the evening and morning, but if you encounter her in the middle of the day she is not as friendly. Its a small thing, but my husband and I certainly noticed it. I would suggest not to take it personally. Other than that, the place is really great!

My husband and I were here for 4 days to see fall colors. It rained most of the time, but we were ready for it. Everyday we can home about 4 and Ann had a roaring fire going. Just what we needed to take our chill off. At 5;30 headed to the sitting room for a happy/social hour. We met some great people and had wonderful conversations. In the morning, breakfast, well you are in for a hugh treat. They were outstanding. Looking forward to a return visit.

It was an outstanding place to stay for our 2 days in Bar Harbor. Everyone was so friendly. I felt that the owner and staff really cared about us and our stay.

Staff were friendly and freely gave advice if requested. Building historic, rooms clean, mattresses ok. Afternoon snacks were fabulous as were the homemade breakfasts. Yummy!

We stayed at Cleftstone Manor for a week in the middle of September and it was another wonderful stay. Ann and Bob the innkeepers are wonderful people who run a beautiful B&B they serve a fantastic breakfast and it is a great place to stay. The rooms are well appointed and reflect the character of when the place was built. I had only two problems with the room, the bed is too high and too soft for me, but that is a personal preference. All in all a great place to stay, we look forward to returning.

Me and my husband stayed in Woodbury Park and loved it! This is our second time at Cleftstone and we could not be happier with our stay there. The breakfasts our amazing and very filling. Anne is very helpful in her suggestions on where to eat and things to do. We will be back again!

Cleftstone Manor was a wonderful place to stay! The inkeepers were helpful regarding help learning the area as well as questions about the home. They were particularly helpful with my gluten free diet and served me beautiful and tasty breakfasts, and were pleased to meet the acomodation. Should we ever be in the area, we most likely would return to Cleftstone.

Our room was a suite with pull-out bed on the sunporch. Even on our rainy day it was bright and lovely. The common rooms were inviting and comfortable, and we enjoyed meeting the other guests.

Outstanding and varied breakfasts were the highlight of our stay. Food and service were outstanding. Room was nice but claw tub in bathroom was hard to get into, considering I have a bad knee and my wife had sprained her back a few days before we went on vacation.

This inn is nicely located close to both the town and the park. The innkeeper tries hard to provide good service. The rooms were nicely appointed but need new carpeting. The afternoon wine and cheese/hor de'ourves was a nice touch. If a cruise ship is in town, then bus loads of passengers take tours of the inn, I thought this was inappropriate.

Staff especially Carol was warm, friendly and informative...food was absolutely wonderful...although it would have been nice to have paper plates available with the afternoon snacks...overall we had an very pleasant stay and would not hesitate to recommend Cleftstone Manor to friends and family or to stay there again outselves.

This was a very pleasant stay at this historical inn. We were given a complimentary CD to do a car tour of the area. Room was nice and clean. A little small but adequate. Breakfast was very good. Not always someone at the front desk, but friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and would stay there again.

The room was spacious, but some of the bathroom features were antiquated: separate faucets for hot and cold water and the toilet bowl ran unless the handle was jiggled. The breakfasts were very nicely presented, but the quality of the food was below average and became monotonous over a 4 day stay.

Magnificent B&B. Loved our four day stay there. We had a cute room and huge bathroom, complete with clawed footed tub. Breakfasts were scrumptious, varied, very well thought out and meticulously prepared. A Happy Hour, from 5:30 to 6:30, where delicious "haute cuisine" canapes and appetizers were provided, gave guests an opportunity to meet and socialize, and we met wonderful people during the course of our stay: an excellent initiative on Anne's part. A very pleasant stay. Escaping the heat of Texas in late August makes any part of ME hard to beat. However, after a day in Portland and two days in Camden, where we had wonderful accommodations as well, the Cleftstone Manor was superb. Service was excellent, staff very helpful and thoughtful, and food beyond expectations. We booked rather late and next trip anticipate booking different rooms, which seem to offer greater amenities. We loved our stay at Cleftstone Manor. We were unable to take advantage of the breakfasts due to scheduling activities in the am. But the hostess made us bags of food to take. That was really nice. Rooms were very comfortable.

Just wonderful - - - centrally located to everything we wanted to do, nice comfortable room w/other rooms for socializing, eating, drinking, reading, and relaxing. Staff is pleasant and knowledgeable with information on surrounding area. Not only was the gourmet breakfast excellent, but as soon as we sat down we were waited on. They were there to serve, and please their guests. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

The room was spacious and comfortably furnished. The photos are a good representation of the decor and everything was very clean. The atmosphere was friendly and the welcome tray set out in the bedroom was exceptional. The meals were really satisfying - no one left the table hungry or had to cut their hiking short to get to the next meal. The staff was really responsive and friendly. Our bed was much too hard for me, so I didn't sleep well. Next time I'd bring a foam mattress topper.

We stayed in the Woodbury Park room. I loved the old fashioned decor and laid back atmosphere. It was very relaxing! The breakfasts were wonderful, if you stay there and they have the egg cups I recommend them, they were great! The staff was friendly and helpful. If I ever make it up to Bar Harbor again, I'll definately stay at the Cleftstone!

Cleftstone Manor is a lovely spot just far enough away from the village of Bar Harbor to let you get away from the business of down town. The owners Ann and Bob are great sources of information and Cheryl who is on staff there is wonderful! I can't imagine not enjoying your stay at this beautiful B&B.

we spent a long weekend and found the place worth the money. The room was small but enough for a couple, the bed spread didn't look very new, but overall the house was clean. walking downtown Bar Harbor takes 15- 20 min. there is some traffic noise from the nearby road. breakfast was ok.

We planned a quick getaway to Bar Harbor with friends. We had 3 rooms, one was the Cleftstone Room. They were each lovely, clean, comfy and a great place to stay. We are already planning our next weekend there. Quant, welcoming and quiet. Breakfast was very nice. Could have been a bit less rushed. Owner was delightful. Try it, I think you will be very happy!

This is a lovely b&b just outside the main bustle of Bar Harbor. There is welcome access to the swimming pool at the hotel next door. Afternoon snacks and breakfasts are wonderful!

This place is absolutely wonderful. I've NEVER had better in all the places I've traveled. Its a combination of atmosphere and hospitality that won me over, not to mention the history of this house.

We found the Cleftstone Manor to be very nice. It was old, but very well kept. We had 2 different rooms, with 2 adult couples. The AC was a window unit and very loud. The AC did keep down the noise of the busy, heavy, loud traffic on Eden Street. Anne Bahr was very helpful suggesting a very good restaurant. And helping direct us to Cadillac Mountain. The breakfast food was delicious. Everyone was very helpful and couteous.

We found an open room at Cleftstone pretty last minute, and didn't know what we'd signed up for. There were beautiful photos, but you never know these days. Anyway, when we checked in it was beautiful. The room (we stayed in the Gist Blair) was really great, and so so clean! Also - the food was excellent. Creme brulee french toast all the way! Also - the staff was pretty hands-off other than providing great service at breakfast. Which, for me, is great -- because they were there if needed, but not always buzzing around. We were more inclined to explore Bar Harbor on our own agenda so that worked out great. Also - we didn't get to meet her until we were packing our car to leave but they had the cutest dog, Nellie - who greeted us in the parking lot the last day! Would definitely go back.

We just returned from the best vacation ever. We spent ten days (8/2/11-8/12/11) exploring Mount Desert Island and enjoying the wonderful hospitality at Cleftstone Manor in Bar Harbor. We don't have a vast experience with B & Bs but I am sure that any future stay anywhere else will have to go a long way to beat this one. The room was perfect, comfortable and well appointed. Anne's breakfasts (I am a breakfast person) were outstanding and her hospitality was genuine and very warm. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and the "tea time" was not to be missed. Cleftstone Manor is a lovely place to stay. We were disappointed, however, that the room we chose was very small, smaller than the picture indicated. The other issue was the annoyance of its location on Highway 3. Rather than being able to enjoy the wonderful fresh air with open windows, we had to turn the air conditioner on high to mask the traffic noise. But on a more positive note, the breakfasts were outstanding and the service was great. We would stay there again, now that we know which rooms are on the back side and are larger.

Perfect location if you are visiting the College of the Atlantic as you can walk across the street! Cute and comfortable. The breakfasts and afternoon snacks are fabulous and make this a very good choice for the reasonable cost. Easy access to the Island bus transportation also.

We arrived late and set out after breakfast the next day to explore, so we didn't personally meet the innkeeper face-to-face. The kitchen staff was busy serving breakfast in the morning, so there seemed to be less of a personal touch by never having an introduction. All-in-all a good stay though.

Sitting just a short walk from the center of town this was a very nice place to stay. It was everything we enjoy in a B&B. Our room, the Frank Ellis, was small but quite comfortable. This being my second time in a B&B I was very impressed with the accomodations and professsionalism of the staff. The food was teriffice and the B&B was conviently located to public transportation; which is a big plus for this time of year regarding downtown parking. I would stay here again!
