Historic Oceanfront Inn located in the heart of downtown Bar Harbor with impeccably decorated rooms and elegant suites, expansive ocean views, balconies, fireplaces, saunas, whirlpools, & luxurious amenities. Set on a secluded tree-covered property with expansive views of Frenchman's Bay, this Inn's name celebrates the "balance rock," a precariously positioned boulder on the nearby ocean shore, a huge remnant from an ice age. The Inn offers a tremendous sense of privacy and serenity, yet steps away lies downtown Bar Harbor with its village green and many fine shops and restaurants. Built as a family "cottage" in 1903, when wealthy tycoons selected the most desirable locations along the rocky, island-studded Maine coast for their summer season mansions, Balance Rock Inn today presents romantic ambiance and luxury amenities to make your vacation relaxing and unforgettable. Gaze from the veranda past the glistening swimming pool, beautiful flower gardens and sweeping lawns framed with stately trees, to where the property connects with the historic Shore Path walk along the water's edge. Delight your senses in the comfortably appointed guest rooms and suites, each unique with features such as ocean views, fireplaces, whirlpool baths, saunas and private porches. Indulge in the incomparable breakfast, elegant afternoon tea, music of the grand piano, cocktails at the Veranda Bar, and the lazy comfort of a lounge chair by the pool.
This second floor ocean view suite has hardwood floors and a king size select comfort bed. The room offers a spacious open floor plan with a sofa sitting area and a large flat screen television mounted above a wood burning fireplace for your viewing pleasure. The balcony offers lots of comfy seating and a glassed wall to protect from those cooler Maine nights. The bathroom has a double vanity sink, whirlpool tub, and a pocket shower.
This second floor ocean view room is one of our most popular among guests! This room has hardwood floors and a king size select comfort rod iron bed, and a lovely sofa sitting area below bay windows with an amazing view of the ocean. The bathroom is small with just a basic shower tub combination, but the majestic panoramic view of Frenchman's Bay more than makes up for it.
This third floor (elevator access) ocean view room is quaint and full of character with its slanted ceilings and two skylights. Located in the original attic of this historic "summer cottage" the bedroom offers a comfy sitting area for two with a skylight overhead with a great view of the ocean and a queen size select comfort bed. The smaller room is more than made up for by the amazing view you receive off your private balcony. The bathroom has hardwood floors, a vanity sink, whirlpool tub shower combination, and the second skylight with water veiw.
This ground floor ocean view suite is one of our most romantic with its king sized four poster canopy bed and sofa sitting area with fireplace. The private deck offers a wonderful water view with access to our rolling lawns and historic Shore Path. The bath has hardwood floors, a two person whirlpool tub shower combination, and a dry sauna.
Located in the Carriage House (50 yards from the main Inn) this ground level room is spacious and luxurious. The four poster wood carved queen sized select comfort canopy bed lays across from the wood burning fireplace and two comfy chairs. The wood carved and marble furnishings are of the highest quality and offer ultimate elegance. Balance Rock Inn was wonderful - room, service, breakfast was all fantatic, but the one surprise for us was the acceptance of pets in the dining area (veranda). We were former dog owners and still enjoy their company but not at the dining table. We recognize that the Bar Harbor area is EXTREMELY pet friendly, but were surprised that your staff would allow them in areas where others were eating. Just didn't feel like it was sanitary or needed.

Stayed in the Carriage House Rm.111 and the room was wonderful! Private patio and king size adjustable bed. Bathroom had tons of room and large tub. The Main House sits right on the ocean front and the Shore Path is literally a few steps away. Perfect access to downtown Bar Harbor. Just 1.2 block away from shopping/restaurants. The staff were so wonderful! Reggie remembered our 5yr old little girls name and brought her hot cocoa every morning for breakfast. Speaking of breakfast! WONDERFUL! This Inns has it all! Views, great service, great clean and spacios rooms and the best views in Bar Harbor. Definitely booking for this coming Fall and next Summer!

Me and most of my family have worked at an Inn, in the White Mts. How ever this was a great way to spend some of our honeymoon. We truly enjoyed it, wish we would have stayed at the Inn longer. The caretakers and staff made our stay a five star. A special thanks to the very helpful, peaceful staff. From: Mr. and Mrs. Daniels

Location, decorating....absolutely PERFECT! STUNNING! Cleaniness of room, bathroom, bed sheets...failed MISERABLY! Oops, given wrong room, but once in correct room, fresh towels arranged beautifully, but that appeared to be the extent of cleanliness.....best to take your shower at your next destination. Oh, and flushing the toilet..... keep trying......Cookies upon arrival...not happining! Sadly disappointing.
