Inn Details

Originally built as a farmhouse around 1810, the Nauset House Inn is one of the most charming Inns on Cape Cod. To top it off, it's just a short walk to Nauset Beach. Owned by the National Park Service and stretching for 10 miles on the Atlantic, Nauset Beach is one of the most beautiful sandy shorelines to dot the eastern coast.

Family owned and operated since 1982, the Nauset House provides the perfect retreat from the fast pace of the workaday world. Nestled within 100 year old apple trees, each of the 14 hand crafted guest rooms are tastefully and artistically appointed. The rooms feature hand painted furniture, floral stencils and trompe l'oeil walls.

The main farmhouse has 9 guest rooms, three with private bath and six with shared baths. The shared baths are set up so three rooms share a bath downstairs and three share a bath upstairs. Luxurious terry cloth bath robes are thoughtfully provided for the comfort of the shared bath guests.

Everyone is welcomed into the large comfortable commons room upon arrival. It is in the commons room that guests are treated to complimentary wine, cranberry juice and hors d'oevres daily at 5:30. The innkeepers are happy to recommend and make reservations at any of the fine restaurants located on the Cape. Menus are also available to aid in the selection of your dining experience. Just off the commons room you will find the brick floored dining room. With it's open hearth and beamed ceiling it lends an English pub like feeling to the complimentary full breakfast that is offered every morning.

Also located in the main Inn is one of the most spectacular features of The Nauset House, the turn of the century glass conservatory. With it's weeping cherry tree, bricked floor and white wicker furniture, one has the feeling they have walked into a fantasy. In addition to the main Inn the Carriage House, located just steps away, offers some of the Inns larger rooms with private baths and sitting areas.

Review The Nauset House Inn, East Orleans, MA

Photo Album

Beachplum is our largest room, it offers a king size bed and private bath with a large sitting area. It is located on the second floor of our Carriage House. Back in the 1800's the Carriage House started its life as the barn for the working farm that is now Nauset House Inn. The Carriage House was moved from its original position at the end of our main entrance to a foundation just across our driveway in the early 60's. It was then converted to rental rooms back when the Inn was called The Jolly Haven House. The second floor of the Carriage House now houses our largest rooms; Beachplum, Iris, Buttonbush and Sea Oats. The Iris room is our second largest room and offers a king size bed, sitting area, and a newly renovated private bath with tub.
The Outermost House is our only cottage, it features a queen size bed with sitting area and a private bath with tub/shower. Outermost is perfect for people who like privacy and quiet. Located in our apple orchard it is a welcome retreat for those looking to get some rest and relaxation. Originally one of the out buildings on the farm it has been lovingly renovated to retain its charm. The sunken bath with its faux painted sky, pedestal sink and stained glass windows are sure to make you think you have entered a fantasy. Buttonbush Room offers a queen size bed, private bath with a tub/shower and sitting area. It is located on the second floor of our Carriage House. It was then converted to rental rooms back when the Inn was called The Jolly Haven. The second floor of the Carriage House now houses our largest rooms; Buttonbush, Iris, Beachplum and Sea Oats.
The Sea Oats room offers a queen size bed and private bath with shower. It is located in our Carriage House on the second floor. The Carriage House was moved from its original position at the end of our main entrance to a foundation just across our driveway in the early 60's. It was then converted to rental rooms back when the Inn was called The Jolly Haven. The second floor of the Carriage House now houses our largest rooms; Beach Plum, Iris, Buttonbush and Sea Oats. The Sea Lavender room offers twin beds with a private bath. It is located in the main Inn building on the second floor. Sea Lavender is our only twin bedded room and gives singles or siblings the opportunity to be together and have the privacy of their own bath. The main Inn includes our commons room as well as our dinning room and our famous 1908 conservatory. It is the original farm house and its many rambling additions that we now call the main Inn.
The Pineapple Room offers a full size bed with a private bath. It is a very cozy room located on the second floor of the main Inn. The Pineapple Room does have a low ceiling over the first part of the room, as you can see in the photo, if you are over 6' tall you could bump your head. We always try to ask people how tall they are so we can warn them, but if we don't, please remind us! This original part of the Inn dates back to c.1810 and features wide planked painted floors and hand stenciled walls. It is our least expensive private bath room and is very popular with our guests. The Strawberry Room offers a queen size hand painted bed with a shared bath. It is located on the first floor of the main Inn and is one of the original rooms of the farm house. Not visible in the photo is the paneled fireplace wall that must have kept the original owners warm and full from a hot meal just out of the hearth. Unfortunately the fireplaces are no longer working. The shared bath is adjacent to the room and shares it with two other rooms; Sundew a similar room and Johnny Jump Up our only single. All of our shared bath rooms include white terry cloth robes for our guests to use while they are with us.
The Sundew room offers a queen size bed and a shared bath and is located on the first floor. Like our Wild Strawberry room it also features a non working fire place wall as part of the original Cape Cod style farm house. These first two rooms were used for cooking and as keeping rooms back in the early 1800's. As with all of our rooms, hand painted furniture and hand decorated walls adorn the room and give it that artistic touch. All of our shared bath rooms include white terry cloth robes for our guests to use while they are with us. The Sundew room shares the bath with two other rooms; Wild Strawberry and Johnny Jump Up.
