Featuring hand-painted faux bois treatments in each room this beautifully restored Creole Bungalow is a live-in work of art, in the historic Faubourg Marigny just downriver from the French Quarter. Lush gardens surround the airy home. Walk the neighborhood to discover ornate Creole Cottages and some of the most popular local venues for Jazz, Latin, and contemporary music along the nearby Frenchmen Street music corridor. Utne Magazine called our neighborhood one the "hippest in America" with its art galleries, clubs, restaurants, and slightly bohemian vibe.

Staying at the Sweet Olive is like being embraced by the spirit of New Orleans with the hand painted wall murals and vintage decor. Stay in the honeymoon suite. Its great! The owners have certainly gone the extra mile to sit down with us and make sure we had the information we needed to tailor a visit that met our hopes to a "T". The housemaid Clara is so thoughtful and kind. And don't forget to give, the old quiet tiny dachshund Happy a kibble of cereal at the light but yummy breakfast. Staying at the Sweet Olive enhanced our enjoyment of our 50th wedding anniversary. Thanks to Dale, David and Clara. We'll be back.

We came upon New Orleans for a birthday experience, and how perfect to stay at the Sweet Olive. It has classic New Orleans charm, right down to Mardi Gras fun! Our room was quiet, spacious and relaxed, just what we needed after a long day in the French Quarter.

I really liked Auld Sweet Olive. Dale and David are avid lovers of New Orleans culture, and this is all on display at the inn. It's always so nice to stay at a place that appreciates and shares its local culture with guests. The rooms are quite interesting in terms of decor (in a very good way), and the innkeepers were quite good about explaining the area and answering our questions. My only issue is that the bathroom floor hadn't been thoroughly cleaned before we arrived. I didn't bother mentioning it because I didn't want anyone to feel badly and it was a minor problem that I was able to remedy myself pretty quickly. In conclusion, if you want to have a real NOLA experience away from the ridiculousness that is (west) Bourbon Street, this is the place for you!

We really appreciated receiving the map and guide of the neighborhood. The hospitality was warm, the food tasty and the atmosphere fun. Thank you for serving king's cake we wanted to try it before we left New Orleans.

SweetOlive reflects very much the spirit of New Orleans - colourful, artistic and soulful. We're pleased with the fact that the pictures on its website were accurate of the actual place - we've been travelling for 5 weeks prior to that and had stayed at various B&Bs and not everyone of them stood up to expectation. Thankfully SweetOlive did. Dale gave us a brief orientation of the place and neighbourhood when we arrived, which included a map of various places for food, grocery, music and interesting sights. Breakfast was good and we can get beer in the fridge for $1! Wifi connection was good even in the rooms (again not many places can testify to that) We've enjoyed our stay as it gave us the rest needed while exploring New Orleans.
