I've been visiting New Orleans for 30 years. Never stay in hotels... always in B&B's and sublets because I want more of the authentic local & neighborhood experience. Royal Street Courtyard is the best of both worlds! Live like a local (although in nicer surroundings than many of the locals can manage!) in the perfectly-situated Marigny neighborhood. Everything you'll want to do is close by or so easily accessible you'll never need your car. The hosts are friendly, fun, incredibly knowledgeable, and make you feel like a part of the family (without the hovering you might get at your real family's house). In all my years of visiting New Orleans I've never stayed in a better, more beautiful, convenient, clean, safe & friendly place. I will recommend Royal Street Courtyard exclusively from now on. Really! Stay HERE!

This was my first stay at a bed and breakfast and it will not be the last! I booked room #10 for 3 days as part of me and my husband's honeymoon and we had a great time. We had tickets to the Saints vs Dallas game and I knew staying at a hotel for $300+ per night was out of the question so I researched B&Bs on trip advisor and we decided on this place because the location was great and all the reviews were very positive. When we arrived we were met at the door by Mr. Phillip and he gave us a very informative introduction and tour of the house. His maps and suggestions on things to do and places to eat were very helpful! Room 10 was very spacious and clean, and direct access to the balcony was really cool. The hot tub was great too even in November! I recommend this place to anyone that enjoys the feeling of home away from home when they visit New Orleans.

Just returned from a stay at the royal street courtyard bed and breakfast. Phillip and David were the perfect hosts, nothing is too much trouble, so friendly and welcoming. The location is excellent, about 5 mins from Frenchman street and about another 5 mins to the French quarter. Close to the trolley car stop at the French market. I would recommend this home from home to anyone wanting a warm, welcoming place to stay in N'awlins! The room was cleaned daily and both David and Phillip were a mine of information about the area. Fab place!

We spent three beautiful nights here with Phillip and David and their recommandations. Great choice!! Nice place and a good breakfast. Thanks a lot for all.

Phillip and David were both very friendly and helpful. Phillip gave us a great introduction to New Orleans when we arrived which, since it was our first time in the city, was invaluable. The inn's cat BooBoo was just an added bonus. Our stay was very pleasant and we will stay again.

We were there just a couple of nights and just hated to leave. Phillip and David make you feel so at home in there beautiful Marigny house. From the welcoming front porch, to the lovely appointed rooms, nice linens and breakfast when your ready, it was so relaxing and in a convenientl location to the French Quarter. Once we parked the car, we were able to get around everywhere on foot, for music, great food and just site seeing. Thanks again to Phillip and David and hope to be back soon.

This was our first visit to New Orleans, and Phil went above and beyond to help us make the most of our stay. B&B was in a brilliant location, really nice neighbourhood just a few blocks from Frenchmen St. Our room was big and beautiful, with a stunning balcony. This is a gorgeous house with lots of period features. We made use of the cute courtyard and hot tub too. Breakfast was help yourself, loads of choice. We went because a friend recommended it to me, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone and hope to return soon on another trip to New Orleans- my new favourite city!

We were only there three days, but loved it. The bed we had was a little uncomfortable but other than that the room was great. Loves the history and the character of the house. Great front porch for sitting and relaxing. I would have also preferred a few more options for a healthier breakfast. This was the first time we stayed in a B&B but def would do it again. Would love to go back and stay here again and spend a little more time with our bikes and really tour around the city. The main host Phillip was great!

My wife and I came to New Orleans to celebrate our anniversary and wanted someplace quiet, yet still close to the action of the Quarter. Royal Street Courtyard met those requirements. David and Philip are terrific hosts and had lots of great suggestions of where to eat. There are 2 amazing breakfast places with 2 blocks of the house. The breakfast they serve is a help yourself type of setup and it is perfectly appropriate considering how much amazing hot food is within walking distance of their house. We will definitely return for another visit. Thanks!

Beautiful home, walking distance to French Quarter and great restaurants, shopping and music. Only a continental breakfast, but this allows you to experience the great breakfast dining options nearby! (We HIGHLY recommend Cake Bakery & Cafe.) If you need any other recommendations, Philip is wonderful! His "orientation" at the beginning of our stay was phenomenal. Our only regret is that we didn't take notes! :) He went through a map of New Orleans pointing out so many interesting facts, places to see, and wonderful recommendations of things to do that fit us. As for the room, it was spacious and we had our own bathroom which was great. The bed definitely could've been more comfortable. There were also no outlets in the bathroom and there was only one small mirror near the outlet in the bedroom which made it difficult getting ready. We managed though and overall enjoyed our stay. Overall, we would recommend the Royal Street Courtyard, especially if you've never been to New Orleans. It's well worth the price and you'll get a great experience in a beautiful historic home.

This B&B is just a short walk to all the action of the French Quarter, but is itself in a beautiful and quiet neighbourhood. You can spend your morning sitting in a porch rocker, and then head into the craziness of Bourbon St. in 5 minutes. The proprietors are warm and helpful, full of info and an obvious love for the city. The house and rooms are stunning.

Not only is this a beautiful old house near the Frenchman street nightlife, we loved the personal service. Philip greeted us with a map of all his favorites places to dine. Throughout the trip, we enjoyed his wit and humor. If you want to stay somewhere with personal service, this is it. Philip and David are awesome innkeepers! We will never stay anywhere else in New Orleans.

We had an excellent stay during our recent trip to New Orleans in June 2013. The location was perfect for being able to access the french quarter (10 minutes walking) and had no issues walking back and forth. When looking for a place to stay in New Orleans I was looking for a charming place with character that really gave you that southern feel. This place fit the bill perfectly. Of course the best part of our stay was Phillip who runs the B&B. He was extremely helpful (trust his recommendations!!) and really made our stay a great experience. If you are going to new orleans stay at the the royal street courtyard!!

Great location and hosts Philip and David were lovely, honest and down to earth people. Willing to assist and always gave full and frank advice. Located in Marigny a short walk to Frenchmen Street in French quarter with great bars and restaurants close by. We will be recommending this to our friends as a great value B&B. I would thoroughly recommend a stay at the Rooyal Street Courtyard Bed & Breakfast. The beautiful house is in a perfect location for exploring the French Quarter and city beyond, and the incredible decor and furnishings will make this a memorable stay when in New Orleans. We felt as if we had been transported into a novel, and to accompany the welcoming atmosphere, the rooms were beautifully clean and comfortable. Our lovely hosts also provided us with invaluable information about the city - hidden culinary gems and sites to see that made considering a tour guide redundant, and allowed us to really get a sense of this magical and diverse city.

The owners went out of their way to help us with the layout of the city and detailed a map of information for sightseeing and restaurants. I would recommend this B&B; it is in a good location. Not in the heart of things - so you had peace and quiet - but close enough that it was not a big deal to get into the quarter.
5 on May 05, 2013
The Royal Street Courtyard is the most beautiful B&B I've ever stayed in. From the moment I walked in Phillip and David made me feel right at home, and their local knowledge is golden. The buildings and surrounds are magnificent. The interiors, impeccable. Just a short stroll into the French Quarter. Couldn't ask for more.

We were so so happy with our recent stay at Royal Street Courtyard. The location is great - just a short walk from the French Quarter, right near Frenchman st, and gives you a chance to explore the colorful and quirky Marigny neighborhood. Our room was beautiful, quiet, and relaxing. And our hosts, Phillip and David were super helpful and really seem to care about all their guests. We're definitely staying here whenever we come back - which hopefully will be soon. :)

Who could ask for a better place to stay. I always stay here when I'm in town for a conference, its a nice walk to the riverwalk trolley that drops you off at the convention center and cake cafe is only a block away!

What make this place extraordinary are the owners. From the moment we walked in until the time we left, our hosts made us feel welcome and special. Phillip gave us a house tour, then spent time showing us all the best places to eat and visit, all marked on a map. David is full of information about the town and gives a wonderful history lesson of what life was like in the 1800s when the house was built. It has the look of New Orleans with the balcony and wrought iron railing and the hot tub in the back courtyard is a bonus! Traveling with my 17 year old son, room 12 was perfect for us. It has a sitting room with a futon/bed and TV and a separate bedroom with a pocket door in between. Besides having Wi-Fi available, there is a computer and printer available for guests. Each room has a mini-fridge and there is also a microwave available to all guests. The neighborhood is eclectic and alive with people and we never felt unsafe walking around. Frenchman St. with restaurants and jazz clubs is a short 4 block away and the French Quarters just another few blocks. I could go on and on about this place but the best thing I can say is, "I'll be back."

Great location and value if you like to be near some good music and the French quarter all within walking distance. We had a nice room but a bath across hall and would recommend trying to get a in suite bath. Owners were really friendly and helpful on some great eating recommendations. The garden area is great for morning coffee and the place has a great porch and balconies off some rooms.

The Faubourg Marigny neighborhood is a great location to stay in New Orleans- close enough to the action in the French Quarter and also to Frenchmen Street, but far enough away to be quiet, and to experience a real neighborhood. Philip was very welcoming- even as early as my first call with him several months before we arrived. He was very genuine and friendly, and made me look very forward to the visit. We arrived late, so he let us know how to obtain the keys for our room. We were on the second floor; next time, if there's availability (which there wasn't this time), I'd try for one of the rooms with the balconies. The breakfast room provided lots of options for a light breakfast before heading off to other locales. We didn't think of trying breakfast restaurants(as it was a b&B), but were encouraged to do so by Philip. We very much enjoyed the local Cake Cafe, and many of the other recommendations that he graciously wrote down for us on a New Orleans map. His restaurant recommendations were very very helpful, and we enjoyed the restaurants he suggested. David provided some New Orleans history, which was very interesting. We also enjoyed the backyard, with the jacuzzi. It was nice to have 2 separate rooms in our habitation- sitting room and bedroom. The mattress could have used replacing, and it would be great to have a larger bed than the double bed provided. Fantastic location, hosts, and neighborhood. I would stay at Royal Street Courtyard again on another visit to New Orleans.

My daughter and I had an amazing time while staying here. Phillip provided plenty of suggestions about local food places and interesting places to visit while David was fun to sit and listen to while he talked about the area and the B&B. We loved having visits from Boo Boo the cat. Area and location was wonderful! I would certainly love to stay here again.

I was so impressed. We can't wait to stay again. We are contemplating moving their and I could see us becoming great friends with them both. They really make you feel like you are an extension of their family. Philip and David. ... thank you for the wonderful gift of generosity. I will never forget about it. May we meet again. If you are considering a stay here. I promise you it will be a great place. The hot tub is a great way to end a long day of walking.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Royal Street Courtyard. The rooms, ambience, location and hospitality of the hosts Philip & David made our stay a highlight of our US holiday - particularly Philip's very informative orientation to the city complete with a map where he had personally marked the best dining spots! We highly recommend a stay here - you won't be disappointed!

My boyfriend and I stayed at Phil and David's for two nights just a couple of weeks ago and couldn't have asked for a better stay. I never leave reviews for places/restaurants, but left inspired and determined to do so. This not just a place to stay - it's a place to feel like you're a NOLA native enjoying the best the city has to offer. Upon immediate arrival (and we came two hours earlier than they were expecting us), Phil accommodated us with great warmth, gave us an immediate lay of the land with hand-marked maps, and terrific recommendations on neighborhood joints to eat at, rent bikes, check out great music, etc. The location in Marigny is great; it's close to everything without feeling you are in tourist land. Complimentary breakfast was also wonderful, nothing fabulously gourmet, but just the fuel (coffee, juice, fruits, delicious raisin bread) that you need to start the day. We actually came to NOLA from Houston, and even before getting to NOLA Phil was helping us with travel suggestions and tips for Houston (where he used to live). David also told us about their personal stories and experiences through Katrina, which was eye-opening and made us feel like we were catching up with friends. I can't recommend them enough.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Royal Street Courtyard. Loved the fact that it was within walking distance of so many restaurants and the French Quarter. Appreciated Phillip's "orientation" introducing us to various sites to see, restaurants to try and a little of the history of the area. Loved it even more when he handed us a map with all those locations circled on it! Will highly recommend it to anyone we know. Thanks for the great time!!

This charming home built in 1850 in the Marigny is surrounded by good restaurants and is a short walk from the French Quarter. Phillip knows all the best places to go and has the low down on the local happenings. Parking is convenient.

I find any possible excuse to make a trip to New Orleans, and always stay at the Royal Street Courtyard. Phillip and David's hospitality and genuine warmth cannot be matched. The building is an historic jewel, renovated and decorated with beauty, taste, and flair. The location can't be beat. I just love to walk the street of the Marigny and fantasize how I could fenagle a way to live here someday. Great coffeehouses, restaurants, and New Orleans' best music venues are just a few minutes walk away. An amazing food store, the Mardi Gras Zone, is just a few blocks away. Also, in less than 10 minutes one can walk to the most exciting new development in New Orleans in the past couple of years, the New Orleans healing center, a multiuse complex that includes a first-rate natural food coop, a great Turkish restaurant, a performance venue for eclectic and exciting events, and the wonderful, wonderful Island of Salvation Botanica; and yes, some impressive resources for alternative and wholistic healing. And don't let me forget the Royal Street Courtyard's hot tub/jacuzzi. Great for a soak any time of year around sunrise or sunset, surrounded by tropical vegetation. If I come across as over-enthusiastic, it's because I am. You don't have to believe me; stay somewhere else and we won't need to compete for my favorite room. But since I can't get to NOLA as often as I'd like, I'm sharing the secret. And lest you doubt my impartial integrity, I'll include one critique. The breakfast is store-bought with nothing warm (unless you toast a bagel). I'm told this is because of some kind of municipal licensing regulation for B&Bs, but it's too bad that we can't enjoy something more exciting in such a splendid antebellum dining room.
5 on March 17, 2013
Room was big and clean and the bed was very comfortable. the neighborhood was beautiful and close to French quarter but not in it, which is what we were looking for. It was a perfect place and reasonably priced. Will stay here everytime we go back to new orleans. loved it.

We just got back from staying here. After 6 stays in the New Orleans area this was by far the best. Phillip and David were wonderful hosts. If you're new to or have been to New Orleans several times I'm sure they can tell you about places you're never been to or eaten at. They were eager to help out with local arrangements. I loved the large airy, light filled rooms. The intimate courtyard in the back is a great place to sit and relax as was the front porch to rock and watch the world go by. Rooms and bathrooms were spotless. All at a fair price.
4.4 on March 11, 2013
Off the beaten path but easily walkable to French Quarter. Parked the car on the street and didn't use it again until we left the city. Phillip was extraordinarily helpful and personable. His recommendations should be heeded; Adolfo's restaurant was outstanding. Continental bkfst only, but coffee was excellent.
4.4 on March 03, 2013
A great thing about this place was the closeness to Frenchman's Street (a 5 minute walk, with great restaurants and music clubs) and to the French Quarter (a 10 minute walk; a little off the well beaten path, which was a good thing). But even better were the hosts, David and Phillip. Phillip gives a 20 minute "orientation" to all the best restaurants, coffee houses, and bars in the area, all of which he marks on a map that you can carry. The house itself has a large porch on the street, great for sitting and watching people go by. The breakfast is nothing special but it's New Orleans, so there are many good places nearby for breakfast.

This was our first visit, and we have nothing but positive things to say about the Royal Street Courtyard and our hosts! Philip gave us lots of great tips about things to do and places to eat. The location was perfect - convenient to everything we wanted to do, while still providing a quiet place to come home to at night.

This was our 3rd anniversary to spend with David and Phillip. We recommend Royal Street Courtyard Bed And Breakfast to all our friends and family. We have stayed in rooms 8, 11 and 12. We plan to book room 12 again next year, as we really enjoyed the balcony. Thanks again for making our memories so special. Noel and Renee Rusk.

My wife and I went to New Orleans for Super Bowl weekend, so of course it wasn't cheap. That said, the Royal St. Courtyard is a terrific place. Philip and David are wonderful hosts, and the location is hard to beat. Breakfasts are stock, but ample, and lets be serious, the one place I am likely NOT eating breakfast at my B&B is in New Orleans, where too many fantastic options abound. We will definitely be back.
5 on February 17, 2013
We loved this B&B. Phillip and David were wonderful hosts. The neighborhood was just right with small cafes and restaurants. We could walk easily to Frenchman's Street and really get anywhere. I particularly liked Boo Boo, the Tuxedo Cat.

My husband and I were so thrilled with our stay at the Royal Street Courtyard. Two days before we were set to leave for New Orleans and Mardi Gras, my husband broke his foot. We considered cancelling but after speaking to one of the owners, Phillip, we decided to go anyway. We are so happy we did! Phillip went out of his way to make sure my husband was comfortable -- even moving us to an amazing downstairs room. He provided a map with hand-written notes on all the great nearby places we could go so my husband didn't have to walk far with his crutches. He and David certainly go above and beyond to make sure their guests feel welcome and comfortable. That alone is reason to stay here! Aside from that, the neighborhood is great and only a short walk to Frenchman Street or the Quarter. We obviously took cabs more often that we would normally have but it didn't cost more than $10 each time. There's no reason to stay in all the noise and bustle of the Quarter when this lovely neighborhood and B&B is so nearby. Look no further. You won't be disappointed!

The stay at the Royal Street Coutyard is always great! I have stayed there 3 times in the last four years, and every stay was fantastic. David and Phillip are great and provide exceptional service. It is my choice of locations when in New Orleans, close to the Quarter and other fun establishments. You cannot go wrong with this location and you will not find more hospitable and frinedly hosts!

I cannot speak highly enough of Phillip and David and their lovely B&B. The house is beautifully restored and very comfortably furnished. Our room (#10) opened onto the balcony above the porch. It was a large room with a very comfy bed. We even had a housecat visitor a couple times (which made it seem more like home). We had our own bathroom down the hall as well. The house has a hot tub that looked really cozy but we ended up being so busy out and about we didn't get time to try it out. Upon check-in, Phillip provided us a map of the area on which he had made some suggestions for meals and entertainment. If you stay here, listen closely to the suggestions. We ate at many of them and had great experiences. I was so glad to have booked our stay with Royal Street Courtyard and will be sure to do so on return trips. Thank you Phillip and David for a lovely stay :)

We stayed in room # 10 for 4 nights in early December. The room was amazing (much larger than it appeared in the pictures on the website) and very clean. The weather was nice during our stay, so we enjoyed the fact that our room had a balcony. The neighborhood was perfect for our needs- a 4 minute walk to Frenchman Street and 6 minutes to the French Quarter/French Market. Phillip was also very helpful and gave excellent recommendations for food and music. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast.

The Royal Street Courtyard is just the thing for those who don't want to have the standard motel experience. Set in a neighborhood walkable to French Quarter shopping, the Royal is owned by two delightful and personable people and Boo-boo the cat. Everyone seems to feel comfortable there, and it's probably as close to a home atmosphere as you can get without your actual family. There's chat in the dining room and on the front porch, and it's clear that they have repeat visitors. A porch swing on the second floor, meticulous housekeeping, a little computer room with PC and printer, and the people who stayed there during my visit made this a perfect spot for someone who is not all that familiar with the city.

My brother and I stayed at the Royal Street Courtyard B & B for a total of 6 days and found it to be everything and more than we expected. It was close to the French Quarter and Bourbon Street. The proprietors Phillip and David were very welcoming and very helpful re great restaurants at a reasonable price, sites to see in the area, and tours to take. The rooms were interesting and the garden area was so peaceful and relaxing and Phillip and David made us feel so comfortable. We will definitely stay there again and will tell all our friends about this wonderful B & B.

The hosts were so nice, making you feel so cozy and nice. They would give you all the information that you need to stroll through New Orleans and enjoy the good eateries. Our room in the slave's quarters was so unique and it was interesting to be part of history for a little while. Breakfast always turned into an intense conversation with the host where we learned so much about this town. All in all, it is the best place to stay if you want a "home" feeling.

So happy we picked Royal Street Courtyard for our stay to celebrate a couple 50th birthdays. It was comfortable, clean, and Phillip and David were instant friends. If they recommend that you go to a restaurant, do yourself a favor and go, you won't be sorry! We will definitely be back!

We knew from the get go that this was the place for us. Phillip is an amazing proprietor: when our flight was delayed until a ten PM arrival time, he still took the time to welcome us at the front door and give us a very helpful map and run-down of local restaurants, clubs, and activities. We couldn't have asked for more! Our balcony king room (10) was very very nice, with 13' ceilings and just the right amout of "elegant decay" New Orleans style! Super comfy bed and the sheets were so soft that we bought a set from the guy Phillip gets them from. We felt like we were making new friends while in town, not just staying at another box hotel. Thank you Royal Street Courtyard! My wife had an amazing bithday vacation.

This is a beautiful, charming B&B with knowledgeable, gracious hosts. The location is just a few blocks from the French Quarter - we were able to walk everywhere. We loved the neighborhood with pretty houses and friendly people. Phillip gave us many recommendations of places to eat, things to see and do, and places to hear music. His advice was superb. Our room was beautiful and comfortable, and we had access to the front balcony, which was a perfect place to relax. This was our first visit to New Orleans, and we can't wait to return!

I have stayed 4 times at the RSC, Phillip and David provide a beautiful retreat that is close to the French Quarter, but away from it's noise and hustle. It's such a pleasure to unwind by sitting on the front porch sipping coffee in the morning and reading or jumping in the hot tub on a breezy night and relaxing. Phillip knows all the places to go..be it late night cajun food or hot jazz. Arrived late on last trip we wanted local cuisine and he recommended Coop's..wow..had the seafood pasta...sooo good and they serve till 1am. The house is a beautiful, old southern mansion with high ceilings; everything is modern and very clean. I wish I was the spoiled rotten cat who lived there!!! and

The Royal Street Courtyard was wonderful. It was my first trip to New Orleans and Philip's orientation of the neighborhood and the sights was just above and beyond and extremely useful. The coffee was awesome and still hot in the late morning. :) The house is gorgeous and this neighborhood is a great place to stay. Quiet and felt like you were really staying in New Orleans.

You will never find a more charming or well-located B&B in New Orleans than this one! The recommendations from the owners are all home runs, so TRUST ME and do what they tell you. The hot tub is a blast as well.

We loved our stay at Royal Street Courtyard! The location was perfect with free on street parking. The rooms were spacious and well furnished with a wonderful balcony. Phillip was such a knowledgable and attentive host giving us exellent suggestions on restaurants and music venues in town. We went to every one he sggested and were never dissapointed.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Royal Street Courtyard. This is the third time I have stayed there and I hope to return. The rooms are lovely and have so much character. When I arrived I was given an orientation to the B&B and to the area. It felt more like staying with friends than in a sterile hotel. Thank you!

Everything was perfect. Philip provides a long and very useful orientation, including a tourist map with hand marked highlights that was quite useful. The sheets are so comfortable, and we were able to buy some from neighbors in the French Market at a Royal Street Courtyard discount. We also very much enjoyed the hot tub out back.

We only stayed with Royal Street Courtyard for a single night, but we will definitely return next time we're in NOLA. It is located in a lovely part of the Faubourg Marigny, a block away from a variety of cafes and restaurants and within walking distance of the quarter. We loved our room—and especially enjoyed sitting on the balcony outside and taking in the smells and sounds of the neighborhood—and Philip was the perfect host—accommodating, informative, and fun to speak with. An excellent experience all around!

Phillip and David made our partially 'rainy' stay in New Orleans a real pleasure!! This is a beautiful house with even better hospitality. If your a first timer or a frequent visitor, Royal Street Courtyard is highly recommended for your stay!

We had a wonderful stay here and plan on making a return trip here within the next year. Great location to all of the happenings in New Orleans. Very quaint and clean place. Phillip and Dave were great hosts. Phillip gave us wonderful recommendations of the places to eat and see in the city. We will definitely be staying here again on our next visit within this year.

We had an amazing experience at this BNB. Phillip was amazing! He made us a map of all the things we should do and see during our one day NO getaway. He recommended delicious local cuisine and outlined our whole trip. A friend recommended that I stay here and I would recommend it to anyone. The rooms were clean, affordable and the staff was amazing. I can't wait to go back!

The buildings are a historical treasure. The innkeepers are the epitome of of friendliness and helpfulness and apparently pour their lives into making the place wonderful. Location is Where You Want to Be in New Orleans, whether you know it yet or not. In-house breakfast is great for the fruit and cereal set but what do the rest of us want besides a hot coffee and the morning paper to shake out the cobwebs before a short stroll down the block for more substantial fare? It's New Orleans which is all there needs to be said about dining within strolling distance. Comfort is outstanding given the historical nature of the structure as the innkeepers work hard at it but if you want a luxury suite in a modern glass and gun-metal highrise with mini-bar, HD flat-screen and all manner of premium cable or satellite, look elsewhere. Come to think of it, if you want to drink alone in your room and watch TV why are you in New Orleans? Parking free and on the street is no problem; you can drive away to explore more distant parts of town without worrying about finding a spot upon your return. We can't think of anything we don't like which is unusual for us.

Phillip and David are outstanding hosts. Close enough to see everything but just out of the main hub-bub. A lovely place to stay in New Orleans. JT

Had a fantastic stay in New Orleans in this hotel. Location is excellent, near enough to walk everywhere and quiet in the evenings. The hosts were incredibly helpful, even giving me a detailed map upon my arrival. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay in NO.

Everybody raves about this B and B and they are well entitled to their praise. It is very well run, clean, the owners are charming and go out of their way to help. The house itself is very interesting and although very old is well kept and lovingly restored with all modern conveniences. I would think it really dissapointing to go to N. Orleans and not stay in this area.

The Royal Street Courtyard had been recommended by a friend, and certainly lived up to expectations. A beautiful old house with high ceilings and loads of character. Philip is a fount of knowledge and gives an introductory information seminar on arrival [also very amusing]. David sits and chats over breakfast, and is also a mine of useful and historical information. A lovely oasis in a vibrant city. I would return without hesitation.

Royal Street Courtyard is a great B&B! Our favorite part of our stay was how much time Phil spent giving us advice about what to do during our 2 day stay. He gave us our own personal map that he had written "must-see" places on and spent at least 20 minutes going over it with us. We were so excited to get out and explore after speaking with him. Best of all, we were only a 4 block walk from the French Quarter, and there were also cute coffee shops very close to the place as well. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone!
5 on August 22, 2012
I really can't give this place enough praise! Excellent room, great price, and Phillip is an outstanding host. Michael and I stayed in Room 10 on the second floor which opened up to a shared balcony overlooking the main street. RSC in in a very Bohemian neighborhood. At any given time of day or night there are people on bicycles heading into or out of the French Quarter, usually hauling some kind of musical instrument with them. Loads of fantastic resturaunts within a 5-minute walk and the French Quarter is a casual 10-minute stroll away. We parked our car on the street beside the building and didn't touch it again until it was time to leave. We'll definitely be back again!

I love this place! It feels like a second home. The hosts are hard working, eager to please gentlemen. All of their suggestions are right on the money and certainly satisfying. They are actively involved in their community, obviously well liked, and aware of all the good things available in the city. Up to date brochures, links to New Orleans resources and even the little things you may have forgotten at home- like a bottle opener- are all happily supplied on a simple request.Thank you Phillip and David Robert Donlan

We first loved the personal attention booking our lodging. (One co-traveler booked and unbooked a couple of rooms and the people at RSC were very patient with us.) We loved the big porch off our room - wish we'd had more time to sit there. Hot tub looked inviting too. We'll have to stay longer next time! (No dining except breakfast which was fine.) Room was nice. Everything was Very clean. And upon arrival we received a hand-marked map - just for us and explained to us - with local eateries, etc. which proved very valuable! Can't wait to go back!

Due to bad weather and traffic we arrived late in the evening, but Phillip had already put a welcome letter on the door with directions to our room. In the room we found a map of New Orleans spread out on the bed, with handwritten tips of many must-sees and -does. This shows how much Phillip and David care about their guests. They really want to make your holiday as pleasant as possible, both the stay at the B&B ánd your visit to New Orleans. The inn itself is a wonderful historic house in a nice and quiet neighborhood, within walking distance of the French Quarter. There sure are fancier (read: more expensive) B&B's around, but the Royal Street Courtyard delivers a genuine and honest experience. Recommended!

Phillip and David are the perfect B&B hosts. If you ever plan on visiting New Orleans stay at the Royal Street Courtyard. What a place! The neighborhood is fantastic with outstanding restaurants within walking distance. Phillip gave us a a detailed map of the area with dining, jazz clubs and historic places. Very reasonable priced B&B (under $100 a night, July 2012) We had room 12 which has a bedroom and a sitting room. This was our first time in New Orleans and we will be going back!

And that's a lot.

My stay at Royal Street Courtyard was wonderful. The inn is located in a funky neighborhood within a few blocks of The French Quarter. It was very clean, quiet, comfortable, and spacious. We were able to walk or ride the streetcar every place we went, and felt very safe, even at 2 a.m. Phil, the owner, gave a very informative orientation on the best neighborhood joints, and we enjoyed every place he suggested, avoiding the crowds in the Quarter at mealtime. While the breakfast is a cold, Continental breakfast rather than a home-cooked meal, this just left room for all the culinary delights we enjoyed later in the day! The rate was very reasonable.

Phillip and David are gracious hosts who made us feel at home. They truly cared about making our time in New Orleans as pleasant as possible. Southern charm and hospitality are alive and well at this Bed and Breakfast!! The location is great, just outside of the French Quarter and a short walk to Frenchmen St, in a really cool and eclectic neighborhood that we might not have seen had we decided to stay in the French Quarter. We will definitely stay here again, if we ever make it back to the Big Easy.

Was delighted to find this oasis in a quiet neighborhood in walking distance to the French Quarter. The hosts David and Philip could not have been more accommodating and helpful with local tidbits and insights. The room was very nicely appointed with the softest sheets as bed linens. We had a balcony that gave on to the quaint New Orleans style houses across the street...especially a plus for just soaking in the locale. Speaking of soaking, the hot tub was perfect for relaxation after strenuous touring, eating and drinking!

We would like to thank the owners of Royal Street Courtyard Bed & Breakfast for their flexibility and understanding. We have had a great experience with you and we will be back to stay for sure.

I choose to book a room in this b an b after reading all the positive reviews, they're true, the Royal Street Courtyard is an absolutely superb guesthouse. They have rooms fit for a Marquis and even the more modest rooms in the servants quarters have great balconies and decks off them. And the beds and sheets are probably the most comfortable I have ever slept in. You hear much about southern hospitality in New Orleans, and I have met some great people in the South but as far as my experience goes southern hospitality reaches its ideal and high water mark with Phillip and David (the owners). It is bespoke hospitality, tailored advice for whatever whim or fancy you feel to do from from day to day. In Phillip and David you have faultless guides. Their attention to detail is second to none, weather it be the best places to eat, down to what sauce to have with what dish, to the best vantage points to catch whatever festival or event happens to be occurring. They are as generous with their knowledge and time as they are interesting, funny and kind. You can really leave google and your guide books at home, they are the only oracle you will need. They Royal Courtyard is situated minutes walking distance from the best music and food in the city, yet you can stand on the balconies and reflect over rooftops, or sit on the lush porch and listen to the trickle of the fountain and hear the wind chimes in the breeze, here even flocks of birds seem to fly by in slow motion. You can wander off and do your own thing or chat with guests and neighbours, everyone seems to be on first name terms and close friends. The whole guesthouse has an aura of transcendental calm, a true oasis, and the perfect place to rest before heading out into the whirlwind of taste and sound and celebration that is the city of New Orleans. A very special place in a very special city. As another reviewer put it, 'Why would you want to stay anywhere else?' Indeed.

What a fabulous way to be introduced to the soul of New Orleans. Easy walking distance to Frenchman Street where the locals go to both hear and play the music that makes this city what it is. The innkeepers, Phillip and David know the area, the restaurants, the places to be, ad instantly you feel like a local. The house itself is absolutely charming, yet updated and comfortable. Can't say enough good things about our stay.

Phillip and David were not only able to meet our needs in -house, they were able to give us tips and suggestions of where to go in the area, and also provided us with great history of the area. Every question was answered, they were available more than we thought they could be, and were able to point us in the right direction- for food, fun and local culture. A great place, and we even got drink side service at the hot tub! We will be back! Thanks, guys!

This is by far the best bed and breakfast place I have ever been to. Philip, the B&B owner and host was very helpful and gave a 20 minute orientation of good eats and good places to see in New Orleans, and we took him up on almost all of his recommendations. He has amazing taste! For our short stay these recommendations were very useful and I could not have asked for a better host.

A great place to stay within easy walking distance of the French Quarter but very quiet. Phillip is extremely friendly and very helpful. He even recommended places for a vegetarian to eat. My husband and I felt part of the city coming back to this house rather than an hotel. Sitting on the porch with a drink in the evening was very relaxing. We woud definitely stay here again. Room 12 has a separate sitting room and we were extremely comfortable.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Phillip & David's lovely guesthouse. The best part was how available Phillip was to answer any questions or give guidance. We received a full tour upon arrival plus and extensive map review with numerous suggestions of places to eat and visit. We walked everywhere! The breakfast was a simple continental, but there were so many great places for breakfast ~especially The Cake Cafe! We ate at just about every place that Phillip suggested and they were all so good. A must is Adolfo's! The front porch is perfect in the morning and the hot tub great at night. We will definitely plan on staying at Royal Street Courtyard again!

My girlfriend and I stayed here for three nights this past week. What a great idea it was! I had never stayed at a B&B but my girlfriend insisted and I'm glad she did. Rooms: The room we stayed in was rather nice. It included a sitting room with a futon and TV (of course we never watched it!). The bed was a full size and although a little small for our tastes, we did pay cheaper rate than what the master rooms would charge so that was a compromise. There was also a nice mini fridge for our leftovers (not too much of those either, ha). Service: Phillip was great! Every single suggestion he made was perfect. All the restaurants he suggested were delicious. We came to NOLA with our own list but the places Phillip suggested were not on them and we're glad we listened! Everything was so good. He was very kind and made him self available for anything. Truly a great host. Value: At about the cost of a nice hotel, this was a great value. We were very close to Frenchmen St. and The Quarter as well. Very nice walk. There are plenty of great places to eat, drink, and see live music that are within five minutes of the B&B. Additionally, the knowledge you gain from a host that is familiar with the ins and outs of the city is invaluable. Cleanliness: The room was cleaned every morning and stocked with fresh towels. Not much else you can ask for. Dining: Truth be told, we only ate breakfast at the B&B on our first day. With so much good food around us we just didn't see the point. The food that was available wasn't bad. Bagels, fruit, granola bars, cereal, coffee, juice, etc. Nothing hot or freshly prepared but that was never a big deal for us. All in all, we totally recommend this B&B to others and would gladly stay there again!

my boyfriend and i took a roadtrip from chicago down to new orleans and we wanted to stay in a charming, romantic, and beautiful b&b that would also be close to restaurants and bars- we found exactly what we were looking for at royal street courtyard. It was easy to get to, we were able to park right in front, and right away we could tell it was going to be gorgeous. there was a porch with rocking chairs with people sipping wine out front. we were immediately greeted on the porch by phillip who was expecting us and know our names already. he was so friendly and knowledgeable and welcoming. The inside was grand, and was decorated and kept up beautifully. He took us out back where there is a garden and hot tub. He showed us up to our room which was actually one of the cheaper ones, but when we looked inside we couldn't believe how nice it was. There were two rooms, one with a couch, tv, and desk; and the other with the bed, etc. It was well air conditioned and with fans. the location was perfect- it was close enough to walk (10-15 minutes) but far enough not to hear or be bothered by the the frat boys in the french quarter. It was even closer to frenchmen street which we liked as it was a bit less crazy but still had about 10 different jazz clubs. we will definitely come to stay again! thanks philip! kaity and mike

Phillip & David were the nicest guys. Phillip gave us a complete rundown of where to go & eat etc. when we arrived. The room was beautiful and the bed so comfortable - the sheets were so soft. We had a balcony room which was a great little feature to be able to go out & have a sit in the evening. We never sat on the front porch but alot of the guests were out there enjoying the quiet neighbourhood. We arrived by motorcycle and they let us park it in their gated yard. I would highly recommend this little gem. It was within walking distance to Bourbon St(a long walk) but after eating beignets - a much needed walk!

Words cannot express how wonderful how stay was at Royal Street Courtyard- Phillip and David go above and beyond anything we have ever experienced while traveling and we travel all the time with our work. They made us feel so comfortable and leaving there was like leaving family, we miss them. From the time I booked the reservation, Phillip stayed in contact with us initiating helpful advice on best places to eat, what Taxi service to use, best places to sight see and everything one could imagine. From the time we entered the door we were given a warm welcome and we just felt like we had come home to family. It was my son's wedding and they made what could have been a stressful time- so enjoyable. They took an interest in us as people not just as a client and I look forward to returning one day not just to see New Orleans but to actually see them again. I can not imagine staying anywhere else. They are amazing people and that is why their place is so special- Q. S.- Victorville CA

This was our first ever trip to New Orleans after wanting to go for many, many years. Luckily, I happened to find the Royal Street Courtyard when searching the internet and there was availability when I needed it. Philip and David are absolutely the best hosts of a B&B that we have ever met...both here and in Ireland, and my husband and I are big fans of B&Bs in Ireland! Philip gave us a detailed map and great tips during our check-in orientation and we used many of them during our stay. Not one tip was unhelpful or sent us to a bad place. In fact, we were headed out on a Caribbean cruise after our stay in New Orleans and we were wishing we had stayed longer in New Orleans instead. (Besides having to compare the cruise to anything in New Orleans, cruising is highly overrated in general in my humble opinion.) During our cruise I realized that I had accidentally discarded our e-ticket for our flight home to Los Angeles. I called Philip when we got back to NOLA after the cruise ended, he allowed us to re-print the e-ticket AND offered to stow our luggage while we enjoyed one last wonderful afternoon in an incredible city before our flight home. I cannot praise the two of them enough. I felt that we made 2 new friends in New Orleans rather than met 2 owners of a B&B. BRAVO Philip and David and BRAVO Royal Street Courtyard! Besides all of this, they are conveniently located very close to Frenchmen Street where the best music happens in New Orleans! If they have availability, you will not be sorry.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Royal Street Courtyard - so much so that we can't wait to go back! Phillip and David are exceptional hosts that have strong ties with the local restaurants and merchants. As such, they know the food, the drinks, and even the specialty shops to find exactly what you are looking for. Also, each of the establishments were very familiar with Phillip and David - which in my opinion speaks volumes of their own qualities as owners of a B&B and as active members in their own community. On arrival, Phillip had a map of the NO ready to help guide us in our adventure. We took him up on many of his recommendations so that we could better experience NO and the Quarter. On the morning of Fat Tuesday, our hosts had Mimosas ready for guests to enjoy. The "Bed" - Our room (8) was very clean and comfortable and the back porch with swing was just around the corner. We found the "Breakfast" to be just what we needed to kick off the morning - fresh coffee and continental type variety of foods. We were also spoiled too with King Cake every morning. I can't say enough wonderful things about RSC and our hosts ... Perhaps the best compliment is the one that says "We will be back".

We stayed at Royal St. Courtyard for 5 nights a week after Mardi Gras. This bed and breakfast is a very well kept charming place in a perfect location just off the touristy bits of the French Quarter. Philip and David, the owners, were extremely lovely people; helping us with recommendations and giving us a rundown of the area and our surroundings. We didn't have a car there and were able to easily walk to the french quarter and frenchman street on a multiple daily basis. The location was really perfect; a little off the touristy part of the French Quarter, but close enough. The rooms were very clean and comfy-- we had access to a nice balcony overlooking the street and all the characters that walked by. The breakfast was simple, but everything you would possibly need; fruit, bagels, toast, cinnamon buns, coffee and juice. You get what you want for yourself. All in all, we enjoyed very much our stay here; the owners again are exceptionally nice people. We will most definitely stay here again next time. Highly recommended.

This B&B is in the ideal location to enjoy New Orleans. It is within easy walking distance of the French Quarter and right in the heart of the local music and bar scene in Faubourg Marigny. Philip and David who run the hotel are really nice and very informative. So do yourself a favor... Skip Boubon St and stay here - you will enjoy a much more local and less touristy New Orleans experience.

I stayed at the RSCY during Mardi Gras and found it to be the right choice within my budget and also heightened my experience being in New Orleans because it was a neighborhood place to stay. I've stayed in New Orleans before in the French Quarter but I wanted a more local experience. The owners of the B&B were pleasant, helpful, and quick to even respond to my questions by text messages while I was up-and-around. The place is a fifteen minute walk into the French Quarter but it is safe and there are plenty of sights to see on the way. They're also located close to Frenchmen Street, which I found to be more interesting and fun than Bourbon Street. Highly recommended.

As the reviews before ours state, Phillip and David do indeed make you feel at home. This was our 4th anniversary that we spent in New Orleans and our second at Royal Street Courtyard. We would never consider staying anywhere else. We have also recommended this bed and breakfast to our friends back home in Alexandria, Louisiana. Thanks again Phillip and David for helping to make our anniversary so special, Noel and Renee Rusk.

From the friendly welcome and the detailed briefing on the Royal and New Orleans (love his special map) to the pretty Red room I found everything about my stay most enjoyable. Located within an easy walking distance of the French Quarter, but still removed from the bars and associated crowds, the Royal was a good starting point for a days touring. The breakfast was varied and filling, providing a proper start to the day. I 'd recommend the Royal for single travellers as well as couples.

We recommend this B&B because Phillip and David are great hosts. They give you tons of information: restaurants, bars, music, etc. Plus insights on what their end of town has gone through to recover from Katrina. The location is good, parking is easy, there are some coffee shops and restaurant very nearby, and the French Quarter is just a handful of blocks away. If you are a walker its plenty close to the FQ, and the immediate area is quiet. The rooms are nice, breakfast is more "continental", but I think all the B&B's in the area do that, meaning people aren't focusing on "fancy" breakfast because you're there for the food and music (and late nite revelry) in some cases. Our group rented 3 rooms total for a long weekend, and we all enjoyed the RSC.

Phillip and David are excelant hosts with charming personalities that make you feel at home and give the feeling that they are someone you have known forever. They have roots in the area and have extensive knowledge of the history of New Orleans and the surrounding area. Phillip provides a 20 minute introduction and orientation upon arrival which highlights the local restaurants, music venues, and places of interest all within walking distance (including the French Quarter). The house is a mid-nineteenth century gem with plenty of character and is smartly appointed with period pieces of furniture. The rooms are spaceous, tastefully decorated and the beds are very comfortable. Outdoor spa looks inviting although was not used by us. A very generous breakfast was provided. We walked every morning into the French Quarter (6 short blocks) and at night onto Frenchman Street for awesome music (4 short blocks). This is a real gem, very affordable, with an excelent location which we will use again and again. Peter K.

You could not ask for a more hospitable innkeeper! Philip and David were both so warm and inviting. I felt like I had known them for years. They were very helpful giving us information about the area and we would definitely stay there again. I t was our first trip to New Orleans but not our last !

We stayed for a full week and it really felt like home; so comfortable and a great location. Perfect for music lovers ( 3 blocks from Frenchman Street ) and coffee shops and small bars abound in this essentially residential neighborhood. The house itself is a historical gem, with a true sense of faded elegance ( and yes it is faded but that is part of the charm ) Great service and lots of helpful local advice if you need it. Not really much breakfast, but the worlds best biscuits are only a block away.
5 on February 06, 2012
We had never stayed at a B&B before & were unsure what to expect. The inn is charming and situated in a great location not far from The French Quarter and Frenchman Street. The rooms are very comfortable. The owners, David and Philip were very warm and welcoming. Our entire experience in New Orleans was wonderful!

My friend and I had never been to New Orleans before and this was the perfect place to stay. Philip and David gave us all the best advice and were so so welcoming. The house is a wonderful old style New Orleans house including four poster beds! It is very central just off Frenchmen street were all the jazz is.

What is special about Royal Street Courtyard is not only the lovely house, rooms, food and amenities but the exceptionally friendly and helpful hosts. They had excellent recommendations for restaurants and venues. In addition, they were welcoming and accommodating. Would highly recommend Royal Street Courtyard. Thanks Phillip and David!

We have stayed in quite a few B&B's and the Royal Courtyard is our favorite! The breakfast was continental with delicious coffee. The room was beautiful and the location is a outside the French Quarter, so it was nice and quiet, but a quick walk and you are in the middle of shops, jazz clubs and bars. Phillip and David are the most amazing hosts we've ever encountered at a B&B. David told us great stories of New Orleans post Katrina. Phillip gave us a map marked with restaurants and jazz clubs that we would have never found on our own and were the true New Orleans, not just the craziness of Bourbon Street and the French Quarter. We are going to visit New Orleans again and will only stay at Royal Street.

this was our second time staying at the Royal Courtyard. Philip is an amazing host - and thinks of everything. THe rooms are comfortable and well kept, the location is great - especially for those who want to spend time taking in Frenchman Street and the city's charms without being overwhelmed by the noise of Bourbon Street.

My wife and I have stayed in over a dozen bed and breakfasts over the years but this was by far our favorite overall experience. The Inn is in a perfect location. Just close enough to everything you want to do, but far enough away that you can still come back and relax away from the madness of the quarter. That's not even the best part. The owner, Phillip, is one of the most accommodating, caring, and friendly proprietors we have ever had the privilege of staying with. Not only did he take the time to personally mark up a map of the city and give us a 20 minute orientation of things to do, he also was kind enough to call me on my cell on the way down to warn me about a huge wreck on the bridge coming into town. I could go on, but I will keep it short. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend RSC to anyone traveling to New Orleans.

The Innkeeper (Phillip) was so accommodating and friendly. The atmosphere was great, the home has a rich history and it located on Royal Street just a few minutes’ walk from it all. You can sit on the front porch in the mornings with coffee it is just far enough that you don’t have the hustle and bustle of the main drag. I would highly recommend staying.

Highly recommended unless you like sterile big hotels. Personal, lovely big rooms, and lots of character. Unbeatable location. No doubt that the Royal Street Courtyard will be our first choice on our next trip to New Orleans.

A little off the beaten path is this gem of a B&B. A little walk to the French Quarter, the neighborhood is full of resturants and music venues. A short walk will get you to the French Market and all the tourist shops you're heart desires. The home is lovingly restored and the hosts are a wealth of local information. The minute we walked in Philip made us feel right at home.

I was totally impressed with the accomodations but even more impressed with the service! Phil was an exceptional host and was full of awesome recommendations for dinning and diversion. He provided a very conprehensive orientation to the house. He also provided a local map with highlighted attractions and must-visit restuarants and local hotspots. I would highly recommend the Royal Street Courtyard to anyone looking for a comfortable and freindly place to stay within walking distance to all the major attractions of New Orleans.

We had a great visit in New Orleans. Phillip directed us to some fantastic neighborhood eating places. David provided us with a wealth of information about the buildings in the area. Our visit was much too quick. Of course that leaves us with a reason to return. I would recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a home away from home.

This is our 4th visit to Royal Street Courtyard. We've stayed at many Bed and Breakfasts and this is is the TOP! Thank you Phillip and David for making our stay in our favorite city so great. We'll definately be back -- see ya'll in March!

This was our first visit to New Orleans. Phillip was incredibly helpful and welcoming. Upon arrival, he gave us a map which he annotated with tips for the best places to eat, where to experience great music, and ways to make our stay in New Orleans easy, fun and memorable. Our hosts made us feel at home. The room was charming and comfortable. Although our bathroom was across the hall, it was private and easy to access. Nice terry cloth robes were provided. The location was in a lovely quiet neighborhood, but walking distance to the French Quarter and to the great jazz clubs on Frenchman street. We would definitely go back to the Royal courtyard when we return to New Orleans.

This was such a great way for us to discover New Orleans! The room was very comfortable, with its high ceilings and air conditioning, we loved the hot tub in the rear courtyard, and the B&B is conveniently located within walking distance of the jazz clubs and other tourist attractions of the French Quarter. Philip made elaborate notes for us on a neighborhood map to guide us to all the best places to eat, and things to see and do. David gave us a fascinating history of the region during breakfast. We definitely plan to come back, and next time we'll stay longer!

I really enjoyed staying here. First off, the location is just perfect and nestled in a lovely neighborhood that's extremely close to just about everything (Frenchman, French quarter etc). It's a short yet very pleasant walk to these places. Phillip was very kind and very chill with us. He called me 3 hours early on the day of check-in to let me check in early. For those perhaps who have not been to New Orleans before, he will provide a detailed map for you with all the lovely possibilities. The room is really lovely. The entire place is relaxed and beautifully decorated. I will definitely return. Thanks for everything.

We found Royal St. Courtyard while planning our honeymoon. The photos and rates made us choose it, and our stay convinced us we made the best choice. I got an email confirming my reservation promptly, and even got my AAA discount applied. We were able to park right at the front door when we arrived. Phillip gave us a tour of the entire Inn, and had already highlighted a map with places of interest and recommended restaurants. David also provided reviews of local restaurants and told us to use his name when ordering. We were greeted each day by one or the other with the latest news and inquiries on how the previous day went. They even took some photos of us for our scrapbook. We felt like old friends by the time we left, and will definitely stay with them again.

This bed and breakfast is absolutely beautiful, but what makes the stay is Philip. He is knowledgeable about the neighborhood and New Orleans and gives great recommendations for restaurants, bars, and places to see. He even recommended a great florist when we asked! This was my first stay in a bed and breakfast, rather than a big chain hotel, and I loved it. I'm definitely a convert!

We recently stayed at the Royal Street Courtyard in New Orleans with a group of friends. Phillip and David are wonderful, welcoming hosts and were very informative about the neighborhood and all of the great places to go. This was our third trip to N. Orleans and the best place that we have stayed in the city yet. A Grande old building from the mid 1800's with high ceilings and southern charm. We stayed in room 10, and had a balcony upstairs that viewed the street. Really great for coffee and watching the neighborhood. The French quarter was a safe, 15 minute walk and Frenchman street was just a few blocks away. If you don't want to be smack in the middle of the craziness of the French Quarter, I would highly recommend Royal Street Courtyard to anyone wanting a quieter neighborhood. A Plus!

The owner is great, very friendly and helpful. He gives you an orientation when you get there and tells you lots of good places to go. Clean and nicely furnished. Bed was a bit soft for me but the room was nice and we had a balcony. Breakfast is a help yourself rather than cooked but with so many places to eat out that didn't really matter. There is a garden with a 24 hr available hot tub. A 10-15 min town to the middle of the French quarter but lots of nice places in even closer proximity. I would definitely recommend.
5 on September 12, 2011
My girlfriend and I only have great things to say about the Royal Street Courtyard. Phillip was endlessly helpful and friendly. The home is very unique and is centrally located. It was a great price too. The hot tub and backyard are open all night so we would end up in the hot tub, a little bit hazy, after we got home from the nearby jazz clubs on Frenchman St. This is a very relaxing way to end your night. Other reasons why you'll like this place: -Phillip's map of local restaurants is invaluable. We ate amazing food for each of the 7 days we were in town - and the best part is that we didn't have to do any research. I really liked Cake Cafe (http://www.nolacakes.com/) and Adolfo's (http://www.yelp.com/biz/adolfos-new-orleans) but the rest of Phillip's list was good too. Believe me, we tried almost all of them. He takes a lot of time explaining things for you and can help you with other recommendations when you stay here. -There are lots of great jazz clubs nearby. I've never listened to jazz but I'm a convert now! Some of the best shows we saw were impromptu and on the street corner… unfortunately the police shut down these shows pretty quickly. -Phillip and David are a wealth of information about the area and the history of the home. -You can have breakfast whenever you want, which is great for us because we're the lazy wake-up-late types. -There is parking everywhere around the building so it's easy to come and go if you have a car. We came here after reading similar glowing reviews on various websites and I can only agree with the other posters. I would definitely recommend this place. Stay here! You'll be happy you did!

Stayed one night a the Royal Street Courtyard but wish we could have spent a week! Our large window opened onto a second floor street-facing balcony--perfect for a quiet evening drink or early morning coffe. The personal attention from innkeeper Phillip was very appreciated and helpful. As a result, we enjoyed a drink at a hip local bar and a lovely Cajun Italian dinner at a local restaurant, completely off the beaten French Quarter track. Yet the Quarter was only minutes away on foot. The RSC is located in a beautiful historic district with restored smaller homes. Stunning! Parking was on-street and free. Very good value and we recommend it without hesitation. Dave & Elise

The Innkeeps were the best part of this B&B. Knowledgeable, friendly and helpful! The location near Frenchman Street where local music and great food abound was perfect, plus the neighborhood setting made me feel like I saw a bit more of the real New Orleans. This neighborhood is on the upswing and I would recommend it to anyone

Enjoayed a hot bath more than in ever, clawed foot bathtub which contempory bathtubs can not duplicate, was enjoyed infact I did not use the shower due to the wonderful tubl. This B&B is charming and located just a few blocks from the French Quarter. Philip gave us a detailed overview of the best restaurants in town. Our favorite was Adolfo's - a small restaurant above a jazz club with the best fish I've ever had. We never would have found this place on our own. Our room was clean and comfortable. Next time we'll reserve a room with a balcony. I highly recommend this B&B!!!!!

My daughter wanted to spend a few days in New Orleans at a B&B. I was not exactly thrilled, but it turned out to be one of the best travel experiences I can remember. When Phillip says he is a phone call away to answer any questions or help with anything - he is serious! When the restaurant we thought we wanted to eat at was closed, we called Phillip and he sent us to another fabulous place! David also added to our fabulous experience. The only thing we would have changed would be to have asked Phillip which Ghost Tour to take. We will definitely stay there again if we get back that way.

If a bed and breakfast ever deserved the title "Home away from Home" it is the Royal Street Courtyard. we've been staying at the RSCY for at least five years and when we visit New orleans (as we do at least twice a month) we consider the Royal Street Courtyard our home base. our hosts, Phillip and David, are New Orleans' biggest fans and their devotion to and knowledge of the city enhances and enriches everyone's stay at the Royal Street Courtyard. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The Marigny neighbourhood is a delight to visit and its cafes, restaurants, parks and shops give the visitor a taste of New Orleans that goes far beyond the frenzy of the Quarter. I can't think of a better place to stay and recommend this bed and breakfast without reservation.

We stayed two nights in July 2011 at the Royal Street Courtyard B&B in room 10. Our room was exceptionally neat and clean. While the bathroom was across the hall and not in suit, this was not a problem. There were two fluffy robes provided for us to use, if needed. The bedroom opened onto a huge balcony over looking Royal St. Tables and chairs made this a great place to relax. Phillip provided us with maps and hand written notes of suggestions for places to see and great places to eat. All of his suggestions were wonderful. We had a grand time and I can't recommend this establishment enough. I would stay here again in a heart beat.

When we booked our stay at the Royal Street Courtyard, my friends and I were hoping for a clean, comfortable place to stay while attending the Running of the Bulls. What we got was a personal tour guide who introduced us to a piece of New Orleans that we would have never found ourselves. Philip gave us each a map that he had marked (by hand!) with locations that he thought would be of interest to us. Restaurants, coffee shops, Jazz bars, tourist attractions... anything we might have been interested in was represented on the map. And his recommendations were spot on! The Inn itself is amazingly beautiful. We were enchanted by it's charm and history. My only regret is not having more time to spend relaxing in the courtyard. When we return, and we definitely will, we'll be staying much longer. Thank you, Philip, for an incredible weekend! We'll see you soon! :)

We stayed at the Royal Street Courtyard June 27-29th. I had discovered this B&B by looking online, including this site, and was so interested in staying there that we adjusted our vacation schedule to get the room we wanted. Before I start, I think it would be helpful for you to know we'd stayed at another New Orleans B&B just a couple of days previously to our stay at Royal Street Courtyard. We arrived three hours early, during lunch time, and while the front door was locked, there are rocking chairs on the front porch, and we settled in for what turned out to be only a 15-minute wait. The housekeeper let us leave our bags, gave us recommendations for lunch, then ran three blocks after us when she discovered the place she'd recommended was closed for the week. She was only the beginning of an "over-and-above" experience at Royal Street Courtyard. Phillip met us when we arrived after lunch, and sent us off again to discover New Orleans armed with his detailed map and excellent, excellent suggestions. We had a room with a balcony, and we were glad we'd shuffled our plans to make sure to get this room -- it was very comfortable, a good size, and very quiet. The bathroom was large, too, and clean. The breakfast is nothing to write home about, but, frankly, we just needed coffee and directions on where to go to find our own beignets. You don't go to Royal Street Courtyard for the food -- there's a whole epicurian's wonderland outside the front door! We went for location, comfort, and hospitality, and this not only far exceeded our other New Orleans B&B experience earlier in the week, but prompted us to encourage our daughter to come stay at Phillip & David's as well. Simply delightful.

I just got back yesterday from a four day/three night stay in New Orleans at the Royal Street Courtyard. My boyfriend and I got there Thursday evening and were welcomed on the front porch by Phillip who had taken the time to create a map with "must-sees" and restaurants that we must experience. We did just about everything Phillip suggested and had an amazing time. Phillip and David helped make our experience in New Orleans a memorable one and I will definitely stay at the Royal Street Courtyard again. Beyond typical accommodations one expects at a B&B or hotel, Phillip and David really set themselves apart by being genuinely invested in their guest's experience and go out of their way to make sure your stay is exactly what you hope for. I felt right at home and look forward to our next visit!

Not only is the Royal Street Courtyard impossibly cute, it is conveniently located in the Marigny district, which is an easy walk from the French Quarter. Phillip and David are amazing- friendly and full of information! Surrounded by excellent, affordable restaurants and bars with amazing live music, you couldn't ask for anything more!

The Courtyard is a lovely, traditional, fully New-Orleans flavored B&B in a part of town that is close to the French quarter but that has the feel of a real neighborhood. If you've ever been to NOLA you know how friendly people are, and the folks here are absolutely the best. It's close to many cafes and just a short walk from some of the best jazz clubs. I will definitely stay there again because it already feels like home-away-from-home. My only request would be for coffee to be available 24/7, or at least earlier than 8 a.m., since I'm an early riser.

The RSC is just a 4 block walk to Frenchmen's St and another few blocks on to the French Quarter.

Royal Street Courtyard was walking distance from everything we needed to do - we literally did not start up the car between arrival and departure. Phillip lives on site, and he took a BUNCH of time familiarizing us with opportunities in the neighborhood. He knows everything. (Don't miss Adolfo's on Frenchmen Street!!!) The jacuzzi in the backyard was an unexpected plus. My previous NoLa experience was based in the French Quarter. I'm amazed at how much more relaxed and 'normal' things are here in the Marigny, when it's so close by. Parking is plentiful and free, for example. Surprisingly, the room's cost was less than other B&B's that are driving distance from the Quarter. Our entire Royal Street Courtyard experience was just super!

The staff was knowledgable and very friendly at every turn. The rooms were classy and the location provided easy access to the French Quarter and the newer, hipper Jazz Scene on Frenchman! Stay to the northeast of The French Quarter for a different "angle". The Cake Cafe' on the next block is a must do for local breakfast and pasteries to die for! Again, this staff knows how to find everything.

The ceilings were 14 feet high and there was lots of charm in the building and furnishings. The owners were wonderful, friendly, full of advice and information about where to go and what to do. We loved being in a quieter neighborhood within walking distance of the French Quarter. Very nearby were restaurants and places to get food when we stayed local. It was a great value for the money.

Me and my girlfriend recently stayed for three nights in Royal Street Courtyard, one more night than planned, due to both the excellent hosts and the beautiful city of New Orleans. Our room in the second floor (room 10) was beautiful, and with a nice balcony for breakfast and a late night snack/drink. Everything about the place itself was even better than expected, also the location. The real treat with this BnB tho, is the hosts. Philip made our stay in New Orleans go from good to extraordinaire, with inside tips and hints on absolutely everything, especially how to experience the real New Orleans, and avoid the overly-touristy stuff. Food, music and sights, he´ll tell you where to find it, in its original, New Orleans-style. Loved it!

Nothing is ever to far from the French Quarters even this unique B & B. Clean, friendly and in a great neighborhood. Short walk and your at a great coffeehouse and only a few block from Frenchmen Street for some of the best jazz and blues you'll ever hear in New Orleans. Great innkeepers, who will direct you to some places off the beaten path. Sharon S.

Very quaint, good location, nice variety for breakfast, house had history, gave us all the good restaurants to eat at and sites to see with a map.

My husband and I had such a great time a couple of years ago at the RSC that of course we wanted to come back again.Philip is such a great host with all kinds of great info on where to go or eat or just the local gossip. such a fantastic location -10 miniute walk to the quarter and five to the clubs on frenchman st-miss the music already!terrific breakfast right around the corner at the cake bakery and a cute little bar/ shop down the street for a drink a snack or meal and the basics like wine to bring back to the room. can't wait to go back!

Just returned from my 3rd stay at RSC and it has never disappointed me. Phillip is the most accommodating host and knows all there is to know about what to do/see/eat in NOLA. The rooms are wonderful, the house is gorgeous and the hot tub is sublime! I also love this area (Fauborg Marigny). MUCH quieter than the Quarter and quite close to the best spots in town (on Frenchman Street).

I can not say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay at the Royal Street Courtyard. Our first stay, and we were treated as if we were long time friends. David and Phillip go out of their way to tell you everyhting you will need for a wonderful New Orleans experience. If you want the canned service and surroundings of a Sheraton, Hilton or Hyatt, this is not for you. But if you want an authentic old New Orleans experience with excellent service, look no further. We'll be back.

The Courtyard is located in downtown New Orleans within easy distance of various attractions (in particular the jazz bars of Frenchman Street). The accommodation is spacious and beautiful. Too much else to describe. Philip, inn keeper extraordinaire, offered a series of spot on restaurant and jazz recommendations. Stay here. Full stop.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Royal Street Courtyard. The room was great; the innkeepers were very personable and helpful, even providing a map with their own personal favorites; and we really enjoyed having breakfast in the back courtyard that had several tables, lots of plants, a fountain, and a hot tub. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you Phillip and David!

Phillip was a great host. He took the time to tell us all about the good places in NO plus any information about traveling by Car, Taxi or walking. I'll certainly be back there and sit in the porch, with a glass of wine watching the neighborhood go by.

My husband and I were very pleased with the Royal Street Courtyard B & B. Phillip was wonderful at giving us a thorough orientation to the city and very helpful during our stay. We stayed in room 10 and it was huge! Having the fridge in the room was a bonus, came in handy for keeping treats we brought back from a day around town. There is a good spread for breakfast although, we did eat out most days we were there. The rooms and the house are very clean and tidy. We loved it and will be back!

Phillip and David are wonderful hosts, who go out of their way to be helpful and to make their guests feel welcome! The ambience is delightful and the location is accessible and convenient. We arrived on Saint Patrick's Day and the parade went right by on Royal Street while we watched from the balcony -- what a thrill! I would highly recommend this unique B & B, and would definitely stay there again.

The house and rooms are gorgeous, and Philip and David are wonderful innkeepers. This was my second stay here, and it never disappoints. Very reasonable prices, an easy walk to the Quarter, great dining and bars, coffee shops, and shopping. It's worth it to get a balcony room, relaxing on the balcony and in the hot tub are great ways to wind down from a long day of exploring. We will definitely be back!
4.8 on March 30, 2011
We got a room key and front door key upon arrival so our stay felt like we were in a friendly hotel with personal service. We stayed for a week and had daily maid service plus a small fridge in the room. Room 11 has access to the veranda-- we abandoned plans on 2 afternoons in favor of hanging out on the balcony, reading and listening to birds with mimosa in hand. We felt safe walking the neighborhood both day and night. Frenchmen Street's 4-5 music venues are 4 blocks away. Feelings and Cake Cafe are closer still. My wife was attending a conference at the Convention Center and even with a $10 cab ride we saved $100/day over the Hilton. United Cab has a stand 3 blocks away so cab service is great. Before I turned 60 I might have walked 20 minutes to reach the French Quarter, but over the years too many beignets have made me lazy. A comfortable and convenient vacation!

This was our second stay at this B&B and definitely not our last and this time we brought a friend along as well. Phillip and David are the most gracious hosts and never hesitate to make us feel at home among friends. They provide great restaurant advice, fantastic chicory coffee and a nice selection of other morning snacking options. We had an overall beautiful experience, despite the unseasonably cold trip we had in November and we are still grateful for the ride on the rainy day from the bus stop!

I have fallen in love with New Orleans and Royal St Courtyard. This was my first time to NO and definitely won't be my last. I loved the town - music, food, hospitable people, great weather and so much to see and do. Phillip and David from Royal St Courtyard made the experience so much more pleasurable with their extensive knowledge of the area and warm and inviting nature. The B&B was a fabulous place to relax and recharge before hitting the town again. Do yourselves a favour and experience this wonderful city and B&B!

Royal Street Courtyard is a gem! When we arrived, co-owner Phillip had marked some important stops on a map -- a local cafe with great sandwiches, a place to buy a bottle of wine to sip on the patio (after hot tubbing), a Creole Italian place with great grouper, a couple of jazz clubs. I felt like we were at home away from home. Our room itself was lovely, with big, beautiful high ceilings, a ceiling fan (necessary in the humidity, but there's AC too), a clawfoot tub and shower to ourselves and a queen sized bed. We sat on a wicker porch swing in the evenings, tucked behind the house, and stored leftovers in our in-room mini fridge. The only negative was breakfast. The toast and dry cereal wasn't worth it -- if you go, just head around the corner for something at Cake Cafe & Bakery or get beignets in the quarter, and you'll be much happier. Service at the RSC was excellent, and I would rank it as a high value.

Philip and David really make this bed and breakfast special. The moment you arrive you are treated to a tour of the B&B and given a map complete with food and coffee suggestions. They are also always ready to suggest more places to go or eat. The place is within walking distance of the French Quarter which is amazing if you don't want to be surrounded by the hustle and bustle. I hope to stay here whenever I'm in New Orleans and strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay.

This was our second time visiting Royal Street and is our favorite place to stay in New Orleans. You are walking distance from frenchman street and nestled in a great, quiet neighborhood. Perfect place to retreat to after long days and evenings of exploring the city.
2.2 on February 24, 2011
Place is in a good location. Value for money wise it's pretty good. However the breakfast is very limited. It's a stretch call this place a bed and breakfast. It's not really any issue but you should expect not to get much in the way of food. The place is comfortable and reasonably clean but a bit old and tired.
We advertise and provide an expanded continental breakfast. In accordance with New Orleans law, cooking in B&B's is not allowed, so we do what we can and we encourage our guests to indulge in all the wonders of New Orleans cuisine which is all around us. This house is old, built in 1850, but the only thing tired around here is me.

Not only is the home itself beautiful and timeless, but Phillip and Dave make you feel right at home and go out of their way to make sure your stay is a memorable one. When we first got there Phillip lead us in the right direction by giving us a map of the city with all of the best local eateries and places to visit. And after a long day of walking around the city nothing beats a nice jacuzzi! We will definitely be back!!

Our second stay at the Royal Courtyards was just as outstanding as the first which was last October. Phillip and David are fantastic hosts! We stayed in the same room and it certainly felt like home. We are actually moving to NOLA next month, but will continue to frequent RCY when we need a weekend get-a-way from the Uptown scene! We HIGHLY recommend this lovely Greek Revival B & B to anyone and everyone. Love you guys! Dick and Jenny

Philip and David were very friendly. Philip gave us a good introduction to his neighborhood and guidance to tourist attractions in New Orleans. Our room was attractive and clean. The bathroom was down the hall but was only for us (we even had a key to lock it up if we wanted) and that made our room a tad less expensive. We found plenty to eat at breakfast time. It was a good stay and the Marigny neighborhood was quiet compared to the French Qtr that was a few blocks away. Ingrid and Lowell Liedman

The room was larger then it appeared in the photo. The owners, David and Phillip were very friendly and knowledgeable. The B&B was within walking distance of the French Quarter and even beyond. Streetcar only a few blocks away and a bus that passes right by the front door made transportation easy. Would easily stay here again for our next visit.

When anyone I know travels to New Orleans I will tell them to stay at the Royal Street Courtyard. The building is charming but not as wonderful as the hosts. I was given a map with hand written details and suggestions which got me through my entire trip! Every suggestion was top notch. The Royal Street Courtyard has worked for and deserves my highest praise and recommendation! I can't wait to go back! Thanks for a wonderful stay! Sincerely, Marlene Fenton, Burbank, CA

This was our first time to stay at a B & B by default since we couldn't get the romantic getaway package we booked last year at an area hotel. We were very pleased and will book again next year. As all the reviews state, Phillip and David were great hosts. Keep in mind that you will be staying in an 1850's home. Safe, free parking was readily available on the street and you didn't have to worry about moving your car at the 11:00am check out or pay another $30.00 at a hotel. Breakfast is continental and I acquired a new favorite...biscotti dipped in hot coffee with chicory. You must eat breakfast and lunch at the Cake Cafe as recommended. The crab stuffed omelet was wonderful. I can't say enough good things about our experience. Thank you again Phillip and David from the Rusks.

We spent three nights here before boarding a cruise from New orleans. I wanted to come in a night earlier than my friend and asked for an inexpensive single room for the first night. They gave me the same double room at the discounted price of their cheapest room, so that I would not have to change rooms when my friend arrived. The first night in, Philip gives a great orientation (which I think should be taped and posted on youtube) to all the great food and fun in the neighborhood. They are both very informed about New Orleans including it's history, and we didn't need a travel guide to tell us where to go and what to see. My friend called Philip and David, the inkeepers, her 'besties' aka best friends because that is how it felt. Almost like we wanted to bring them with us when we went out! And the icing on the cake was that when we returned from the cruise and had half a day to kill before boarding our flights back, they gave us a key to the storage room so we could keep our bags in there while we spent time in town. This was a week after we had checked out!! I will definitely stay here when I visit New Orleans again!!

We searched for a B&B in or nearby the French Quarter to stay at for a few days, and after hearing many positive reviews, we decided on the Royal St. Courtyard. It was definitely nice to be outside of the French Quarter for sleeping purposes, as the night-life inside the French Quarter is quite noisy, especially on Bourbon st. As other reviews noted, Phillip was very helpful in providing recommendations of places to go to, even while on foot talking to him on the phone. Pretty much every restaurant he recommended we liked a lot, and some of them we probably would never had went to if he didn't mention them. The hot tub was great, especially after doing plenty of walking. Our only dislike was that the breakfast is continental rather than cooked. However, we understood why after being told that New Orleans requires B&B to have a restaurant license to cook breakfast. Plus, there were a couple decent breakfast places nearby anyway.

My husband and I had an outstanding stay at the Royal Street Courtyard and will definitely be staying there the next time we go back to New Orleans. Phillip and David are extremely friendly and helpful hosts, always available and happy to give advice on places to see, where to eat, things to do and directions on how to get to each one. This B & B is in a great location with very pretty, well- furnished and clean rooms and we look forward to staying with them again next year. Jane & Kenny 01/2011

I recently met my mom in New Orleans for the weekend and we stayed at the Royal Street Courtyard B&B. Everything about the B&B is nearly perfect. It's in a great location, within walking distance to the quarter, in a lovely quiet side neighborhood. There was plenty of space in the rooms and the futon is comfortable (my mom slept in the real bed). It's a cozy place to stay at a terrific value. Most of all, the innkeepers were extremely helpful and accommodating. We plan to stay there again!

My husband and I just spent 3 nights at the Royal Street Courtyard, and are really glad we choose this location. The house is beautiful and comfortable; close enough (and safe enough) to walk to the Quarter at all times; far enough away that you will not be kept awake by party noise. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in the room as we don't go on vacation to sit still, but the time we spent there was restful, quiet and perfectly suited our needs. My husband took advantage of the outdoor hot tub, and if we had decided to relax at the house we would have enjoyed the lovely garden area along the back and side of the house. We had fresh coffee and fruit at breakfast and I did grab a granola bar to toss into my bag for later in the day. Phillip gave us a detailed map of the area (including the French Quarter and Garden District) and highlighted restaurants and points of interest that he recommended we check out. All of the restaurants we hit on his list were delicious! His orientation to the area was really above and beyond, and this personal attention was what made our stay at this location an exceptional experience. We heard stories from people staying at other b&b's where the owner didn't even greet them upon arrival but instead left the keys in the mailbox. I suppose if you were returning to the area you might not need this information but it only seems appropriate that the owner would personally meet and greet the guests. Phillip gave us a card with his number so that we had someone to call if we had any questions, and was quick to respond when we called him to get the address of one of the restaurants he recommended. All in all: You will not be disappointed! We will stay here again, and next time we will rent bikes from a nearby shop (Phillip and David can tell you the name of the place!) as we are ready to explore a larger area but don't want to give up the neighborhood and accommodations of the Royal Street Courtyard.

ad dining: not offered. Philipp + David were really great hosts! I've never had it before that we got a site map already prepared with handwritings showing restaurants, bars, ... it was great to stay there!
Thanks for all the kind words. As far as the dining, in New Orleans there is a city ordinance that doesn't allow cooking. We do offer an expanded continental breakfast with coffee, tea, juices, cereals, packaged pastries, bagels and bread for toast. That is what we advertise and show on our website and that's what we make available to our guests. For those that are early morning big breakfast types, New Orleans has a plethora of breakfast and brunch options. Some of which are just a block away!

I live and own a house in New Orleans. But the Royal Street Courtyard is where I go to "get-away". If the locals stay here, you know it's the real deal! I have a get-away planned for this weekend and I can't wait!

Leaving the Royal Street Courtyard after only a short two day visit was a hard thing to do. We could have easily stayed there for another week (and in fact, Phillip's great recommendations for things to do in the area made us want to move to the neighborhood altogether!) Phillip is a gem of a guy and a brilliant host who takes the utmost care and consideration to ensure his guests have an excellent and unique stay in the city. Not to mention the house itself is beautiful and comfortable as can be. We give the Royal Street Courtyard our strongest recommendation!

Our room was spacious, the bathroom roomy and the bed extremely comfortable and we had access to a 2nd floor veranda where we could sit & drink wine whilst we decided where to spend our evening dining & listening to excellent live music in Frenchman St only 5 minutes safe walk away with the historic French Quarter being a further 10 minutes walk The breakfast was basic cereals, bagels, toast, coffee etc but sufficient. We would happily stay there again and recommend it to others

What a neat place to call home for four days! If you want authentic New Orleans, then this is the place to stay. The B & B is over 150 years old with so much character! Its location is just perfect for walking a few short blocks to Frenchmen Street or about six blocks to the French Quarter. There are two fun coffee shops within a block. Phillip and David are so friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect. We stayed in both rooms 9 and 10. The bathrooms are small, but how much time do you want to spend in a bathroom anyway? We would certainly stay here again if we return to New Orleans. Tom and Sandy from California

Fortune smiled on my wife and me recently as we enjoyed a three-night stay at the Royal Street Courtyard. The innkeepers, Phillip and David, made us feel right at home. Our room was very large and comfortable, with an inviting balcony overlooking Royal Street. The location is very convenient to great restaurants and jazz, but quiet during the wee hours of the night compared to the French Quarter. The parlor is an inviting place to relax, and has a massage chair and a second back massage pad... perfect for working the kinks out after our six-hour drive from Memphis as well as after a full day of sightseeing. Although the free breakfast was standard fare, my wife and I preferred to go to nearby breakfast/coffee houses for our morning meal. So go to the Royal Street Courtyard. You can thank me later!

Our stay at the Royal Street Courtyard B&B was our first B&B experience. It was so much more pleasant than a stinky old hotel! I was nervous about staying at a B&B until I kept reading the great reviews, pages after pages and then I was convinced. We had room number 9 which had plenty of room for us and the bed was extremely comfortable and very clean. Our bathroom (for this room) was down the hall but was private with lock and key for us. It was small but who spends their time on vacation in a bathroom? The shower was awesome! The plush robes provided were a very nice added convenience. There is a swing on the upstairs back porch and the courtyard is set up beautifully with the lushest plants, very private, very romantic. The hot tub is a terrific addition to the courtyard for guests especially after taking advantage of walking all over the area. The breakfast set up was fine, including the excellent coffee, and got your day started off just right. I have been to Nola numerous times staying in and outside the Quarter, in & out of Mardi Gras and I’ve never had such great time. Staying in the Faubourg Maringy area is kinda like going to Jamiaca, once you go, you know. Phillip (Innkeeper)made this experience with his personality and hospitality. It was more than just meeting the innkeeper; it was making a great friend. We’ll be back!

My wife and I were celebrating our 20th anniversary in New Orleans and had a truly wonderful time at the Royal Street Courtyard. Between Phillip's abundant knowledge of the restaurants, bakeries, jazz clubs, and hotspots in the area and keen sense of direction on how to get to literally anything in the city and David's wealth of news, historical events, and key figures in the history of the city, we quickly shed our tourist-like tendencies and enjoyed a special city, experiencing its people, culture, cuisine, music, and unique expressions. Thanks Phillip and David! You are great ambassadors for a wonderfully eclectic city.

We just returned from a stay to New Orleans for my husbands birthday. We were a little apprehensive about not staying at a hotel because we thought we'd be missing out on some of the action. We worried for no reason - the B&B was an perfect distance away - we could be in the French Quarter when we wanted to be and retreat to a quiet, clean room when we didn't want to be surrounded by noise. We stayed in room 10, which has a bathroom down the hall -- and even that wasn't a problem. They put a robe in our room so we could walk back and forth easily. It reminded me of staying at a friend's house. Phillip and David are wonderful hosts - always available if you need something or to answer a question. Phillip's knowledge of the city, places to go, places to eat and how things work is amazing. Our flight was late - arriving two hours after we were supposed to (at 1:00 a.m.) and he still waited up for us to go over a map of the city and point out where we could go for certain things. It helped us get our bearing immediately so that the following morning we could be out and about early. We could also stay out as late as we wanted and didn't worry about what time we got back since we had a key to the front door. All in all, it was a great trip - the house is beautiful, the hosts were kind and helpful and the city was fun. We would definitely go back - although probably during a cooler time of year than late June!

I had stayed at the Royal Street Courtyard with some girlfriends for a bachelorette party weekend in June 2009. I enjoyed it so much that I reserved the large room downstairs for my sister's bachelorette party in June 2010! We slept 5 very comfortably. It's a VERY quick walk (4 short, safe blocks) to Frenchman and only about 10 minutes to the French Quarter (a little longer if you stop and get drinks at the great bars and restaurants along the way). I can say with absolute confidence that this is the best bed and breakfast I've ever visited. Philip and David were the most amazing hosts. They helped us plan our weekend excursions and kept us up to date on events in the area, all with amazing style, charm, and humor. After only a little time spent with them, I feel like they are old friends. My sister, my family, and I are very appreciative of all their efforts to ensure that our stay was as comfortable as possible. The rates are more than reasonable (just try to find something comparable in a cold hotel room) and the rooms are full of historic charm. I can't say enough about this place. Be sure to stay here on your next trip!

I've stayed here half a dozen times, and I've never had anything but an excellent experience every time. It's perfectly situated just outside the French Quarter, an easy walk to everything but far enough away that it's quiet and removed from all the hubbub of Bourbon Street. The house is lovely and beautifully furnished, and has all the amenities you'd expect, and in good working order. Phillip is an excellent host; believe everything he tells you about food, entertainment, and the neighborhood - he's never steered me wrong. The hot tub in the back courtyard is the capper. It's private and the perfect end to a day in the Quarter. Go, and then go again, and tell your friends.

An important part of our travel is about finding a good meal (and drink) somewhere. Our host gave us excellent suggestions in this regard. Of course, he also gave us a very good overview of the city and how to navigate it. All in all, his advice has added a great deal to our enjoyment of the city, and that is something you may not get even at a 4-star hotel. By the way, the view from our room is very nice too, with downtown clearly visible. The bed is also comfortable.

David and Phil were cheerful, warm and welcoming hosts whose knowledge of the city is excellent. They will recommend food and interesting places to visit according to your tastes. The neighborhood is perfect for long walks (interesting architecture, friendly people) and Frenchmens street is a real find for music fans. Good food nearby and the French Quarter well within easy walking distance. Highly recommended for a real New Orleans experience. Thanks Dave and Phil. Steve and Josephine.

The room was wonderful, the breakfast was great, the location was perfect, and the company was outstanding! We won't be staying anywhere other than here in New Orleans ever again, and we're counting the days until we can come back!
We love "family" like you. One of the perks of this "job" is meeting and making friends that become family. Thanks for the nice words and come back soon!

I couldn't have been happier with the place, the people, and the price. This was truly my most enjoyable stay anywhere, ever. I'm not exaggerating!

This was our first visit to New Orleans, and the Royal Street Courtyard was wonderful! Location was perfect - we walked to everything - and we tried many of Phillip's recommendations for dining and entertainment and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The accomodations were clean and comfortable and laid-back, and I felt as though we were just staying with friends. Royal Street was the perfect complement to the unique charm of New Orleans.

This place is great plain and simple. The owners are helpful and have loads of tips on where to go, what to do, where to eat and how to get there!! It is quiet, the rooms are WONDERFUL and the breakfast is great. You do not feel like you are staying at a bed and breakfast, you feel more like you are staying at home! (A home where you do not have to make breakfast or clean). We stayed in room #11 which has a private bathroom and a GREAT balcony that you can sit on and watch the neighborhood. It is a lovely room. The bed is comfortable and is decorated with a lot of class and style. The location is great. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the quarter, and within a block or two there are 2 great cafes and a wonderful neighborhood kiosk/restaurant that has a GREAT veggie burger and PO Boy (meatball). Go here! Do not stay in a hotel! It is so worth it. the price, atmosphere and location cannot be beat!!

Had a great stay at this wonderful b&b from 7/8/09 to 7/11/09. My girlfriend and I can not recommend it enough. The property is beautiful. The neighborhood is just . . . fun: a quaint, artistic area that is only a few blocks from the Quarter and has lots of character. Philip made us feel at home with a property tour and a host of recommendations for eating and local attractions. (Do as he says - get off Bourbon and hit Frenchman street and other places this great city has to offer). He and David are fantastic hosts - always readily available, friendly, and very helpful. They made our stay even better. Our room was very clean and well-furnished. We loved having a balcony (I highly recommend room #11). Our stay was a great value as well - very reasonably priced. This was so much better than staying in an overpriced hotel in the Quarter or a bland (i.e., no character) corporate place downtown. Stay here. You'll be glad you did.

For my first visit to the city, I couldn't have had better accomodations. The owners were friendly and helpful, and made sure even our smallest concerns were taken care of. Mr. Lege had plenty of suggestions for activities and restaurants right in the area. The grounds are lovely and the place is very well maintained. I felt that all the modern amenities were available without sacrificing an authentic experience of local flavor and history. I give it the highest rating, and I told them I will be back! (FYI, make sure you get a balcony room so you get a nice view of the neighborhood.)

This place deserves the rave reviews it receives. Phillip is wonderfully helpful and welcoming, and The Royal Street Courtyard is in a great location (we didn't need to use our car during our stay). I would recommend The Royal Street Courtyard to everyone.

I stayed 4 nights at the Royal Street Courtyard during the Essence Music Festival July 2-6, 2009. As soon as I arrived, I was given a tour of the property. The owner, Phillip, was down-to-earth and treated everyone like family. My room was just as described. The price was well within reason. Breakfast included muffins, bagels, cereal, coffee, fruit, toast, tea, and juice. It was enough fuel to hold me over until lunchtime. Phillip checked on me everyday. He made sure I was enjoying my stay by recommending historic landmarks and great places to eat. I used the city bus ($1.60) and the street car ($1.25) to get to all of the planned activities. The Courtyard was only a 10 minute walk from the French Quarter. When my flight landed, I took the (E-2) city bus from the Airport to the French Quarter. While my friends paid $33.00 for a cab ride, I only paid $1.60. The bus dropped me off 2 blocks from Canal Street. I took the street car to the Frenchmen Street and then walked to Royal Street. There were so many shops and cafes along Frenchmen. All the shop owners and residents were overly friendly. The food was great and the service was outstanding. I walked home every night and not once did I feel unsafe…the streets were bustling and the parties didn’t stop until 4am......The entire ambiance was very relaxing. I had a pleasant time at the Royal Street Courtyard.

This is the 2nd time I have stayed. The way you are taken care of it makes it so hard to leave they are wonderful, they treat you how you wanted to be treated. Attention to detail is wonderful and southern hospitality is alive and well here. I am looking forward to my next visit.

Having stayed at the Royal Street Courtyard 5 years ago, my husband and I visited again in May this year when driving from Savannah to Fort Worth - a bit of a detour but well worth it! The hosts, Phillip and David, are welcoming, helpful and charming and it felt like we were back with old friends. The hotel feels quaint and quirky, but then so is New Orleans. It's good value and continental breakfast is included. There's free street parking right outside. It's a bit of a walk to the Centre but never dull - and a taxi costs very little. In summary - just a great, well priced friendly and welcoming place to stay, with a lot of character!

Me, Thomas Kennedy & my girlfriend Amy went up to Royal st. courtyard for a Sunday / Monday get away. We will be heading back quite often. We have found the perfect place in nola to take a break from our very busy lives in Lafayette. The spot is away from the loud areas of bourbon/ canal BUT still within a few blocks of the French market. The surrounding neighborhood is nice with many nice people around. Great local shops with down to earth non-intrusive staffs are also right around the corner. Phillip the owner was a perfect host & read us very well. He recommended the best place to eat that was NOT the normal tourist trap that we avoid. Honestly it was the best meals out I’ve had in years. The grounds are serine & calming. Very clean place, great breakfast in the morning & well light/safe at night. Nothing overdone & thank god there is a hot tub that functioned properly on the grounds. Last but not least the price is lower than most hotels in the area. I am so grateful for that. If you want a TRUE nola experience everything you need is within a 5-block radius of the royal street courtyard.

We stayed a week in this lovely bed and breakfast. The hosts guided us to the best food, sight seeing locations, and NOLA attractions, and most were not for tourists. The house was delighful, well managed and easy walking to Freachman and the Quarter, as well as Mimi's and other attractions near the Courtyard. Breakfast in the morning was a gathering of travelers from all over the globe...what fun!

We spent 3 nights at Royal Street. Location is a 10-15min walk to the quarter - far enough to be quiet but close enough to head out for days and dinners. The host, Phil, is by far the nicest we have encountered in our B&B travels. Had good recs on everything from restaurants to hospital emergency rooms (my husband had an upleasant bout of food poisoning) even after we'd moved to another hotel to be near my work conference. Great price, comfortable rooms.

My sister, niece and I stayed at the Royal Street Courtyard and had the most wonderful time there. Both Phillip and David were very kind and hospitable. Phillip knows so much about the area and gives wonderful tips on where to go and how to get there. He even gave us a tour of the neighborhood. We truly enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend to anyone that they stay at this wonderful B&B.
4.6 on February 23, 2009
We really enjoyed our stay at this B&B. The house is beautiful, and the innkeepers so nice. Phillip was particularly very helpful : he gave us a warm welcome and was an excellent advisor for places to eat or listen to music. Furthermore, the location is really good, 5 minutes from Frenchmen Street where there are some cool bars to listen to good music, far from the chaos of Bourbon Street. And overall Faubourg Marigny is a very cool area to go for a walk. The guest house is 15 minutes from the French Quarter. On the downside, don’t expect to have homemade pancakes & muffins, but you will still have a robust breakfast with a large selection of bagels and cereals for instance, and this B&B remains an excellent value for money and we definitely recommend it. PS: don't miss a trip to the hot tub in the backyard : it is "open" 24/7.

Royal Street Courtyard Bed and Breakfast is an outstanding place to stay in New Orleans. The building is beautiful and loaded with charm; the rooms are beautifully decorated; the ceilings are high with ceiling fans and there's a great balcony that extends the full length of the front. We loved it! The innkeeps, Phillip and David, could not have been more hospitable. The breakfast was casual and unhurried, with a variety of breads, muffins, bagels, cereals, juices and coffee. Royal Street Courtyards is located in the Marigny, walking distance to the Quarter. Nightime was quite peaceful. This is the place to stay in New Orleans!
I think I might use some of your words in my advertising. Thank you so much. We pride ourselves on having the best guests in town! ;-)

A lovely historic refuge very close to all that is "tourism" in New Orleans yet also providing a retreat that speaks to "neighborhood" and individualized "Southern" care. Philip and David treat you like family and David probably has more New Orleans history in his head than any tour. Beautiful, caring innkeepers of a beautiful, historic residence.
Wow, what beautiful words. We really appreciate having great guests. ;-)

The wife and I spent three great days at this B&B. The owners go beyond call to make sure your stay in the area is pleasant. Phillip is always there when you need him and very helpful. The house is quaint and is being painted and touched up in some areas, making the room grade lower than it could be next time. A great value, in a neat location, with outstanding hosts, and a great value, we will definitely stay again!
5 on August 07, 2008
We have been back twice and will be back again for "Decadence" . Phillip and David were very friendly and helpful every step of the way, from the more than enough breakfast to the fabulous showers, everything was great!!! And Phillip makes a great door man!!
Just let us know when you are ready to move. We'll make a place for you while you explore the neighborhood :-) Hope to see you again soon!

We arrived Friday nite and stayed until Sunday.Phillip Kept the place cozy, quiet and very relaxing. The rooms were comfortable. There were bookshelves fulll of books if you wanted to stay in and read but we chose to roam the city. Phillip sent us to an amazing Creole Italian restaurant. He was a great help since we had never been to New Orleans. He made us feel welcomed and cared for like VIP guest. When we return to New Orleans, His place is the only place we want to stay. It is just far enough our from the FrenchQuarters so that we can stroll without the high tourist traffic...WONDERFUL...I suggest you check this place out!!!
Thank you so much for the kind words. We hope you are doing well and we look forward to your next visit.

This was our visit to New Orleans. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. We stayed in room #10. The best thing about this room was the access to the balcony. It was very easy to walk anywhere we needed to go. Even coming back late at night we never felt unsafe. We had dinner late one night at a little restaurant around the corner. Great food and we never would have known it was there if Phillip hadn't recommended it.

This was out first stay at a B&B and I think that if I were to stay at another I would probably be disappointed. Philip and David were extremely helpful when it came to advising us on were to go in NO as it was our first time there also. The house was wonderful and only a short distance to the French Quarter. Our next trip to the Big Easy will surely find us at Royal Street Courtyard.
I think you must have been taking notes during our orientation :) We've got availability this summer...How about a weekend getaway? Thanks for the great review!

Royal Street Courtyard is an awesome place to stay. It reminded me of my grandparents house with the high ceilings and wooden floors. Phillip and David are great and will make sure you have a wonderful stay while in NO. We were there for my neice's wedding. The rest of the family stayed in hotels in or near the Quarter. They were nickeled and dimed for parking and everything else. When I first asked Phillip about parking he said you would have to park on the street. As it turned out, my vehicle was never any farther than 20 or 30 feet and best of all it was free. The location is just far enough fromt he hustle and bustle to get some piece and quiet yet close enough you can walk to see all the sights. Thanks for a wonderful stay Phillip & David.

I only wish we could have stayed longer!! I was lucky enough to find this gem when searching for a place to stay over one night while traveling thru NOL. It was a great location with an easy walk to French Quarters. We stayed in room #11 which was pretty, clean and had a comfortable bed. We had an attached bath with a small shower stall but the water temp and pressure was great. Room #11 has direct access to the 2nd floor balcony through a cool floor-to-ceiling window that easily opened. The breakfast was nice with a variety of breads, bagels, fruits, juices and cereals (the raisin bread was delicious). The best part of this B&B was the innkeeper, Phillip. He was so friendly, fun and helpful. His recommendation for dinner was perfect. Phillip even called my cell phone to make sure that we found the restaurant! He made us feel so welcomed and comfortable. And, of course, I must also mention Moe the cat who allowed us to pet her but only at her discretion. Thanks, Phillip, for a short but wonderful trip!!!
I think we're lucky you found us. It is really gratifying when we hear that our guests feel comfortable and welcomed. Thanks for the great review.

The Royal Street Courtyard is an amazing place. Great location (4 blocks from Frenchman Street and the best Jazz clubs in New Orleans) and an easy walk to the Quarter. The house is beautiful and comfortable and the hot tub is such a treat! The level of service is unsurpassed. Phillip was always there to great us, recommend places to go, give directions and make great conversation. And David has created an oasis in the backyard. I cannot say enough good things about this place! We will most definitely stay at Royal Street Courtyard next time we visit New Orleans.
Very inviting review. Thank you so much for staying with us. Hope you can come again soon.

We absolutely loved staying here! (2 couples). The owners have done a wonderful job restoring and maintaining this lovely old home. We loved our rooms, especially the one with the big windows that opened onto the Royal St. balcony. Great for people watching & making you feel as if you are part of the neighborhhod. Phillip was charming, friendly, helpful. He was always there to greet us when we returned "home". Good location - within a few blocks of the Quarter and Frenchmen's St. and many good restaurants in the area. Best part - watching one of the many St. Patrick's Day parades from our balcony and joining in the neighborhood celebration! We were able to "feed the tree" with beads! We will not hesitate to recommend this place and look forward to a return visit.
We loved having all of you here for the St. Patrick's festivities. Thanks for the great review. Hope to see you all again soon!

We stayed here during the first week of April (2008), and we absolutely loved every minute of it! Staying at the Royal Street B&B was definitely a good choice for us. We loved the neighborhood, the house, our room (#11) - everything! It's a short and easy walk to the French Quarter, the clubs on Frenchman Street, etc., and the house is situated in a pleasant and quiet neighborhood which feels worlds away from the craziness of the Bourbon Street area. Everyone at the Royal Street B & B was very friendly and helpful - especially to young NOLA first timers such as ourselves! We loved our stay in NOLA, and when we come back, we will be staying here!
Thanks for the great review. I think it will help potential travellers understand more about us. Hope you can get back here someday soon.

Sorry David and Phil for the late review. My husband and I were there the weekend after Thanksgiving. We knew of the B&B because our daughter used to live down the street. The neighborhood is nice and quiet. People say HI as you walk towards the Quarter. We had the room off the back of the house and across the walkway on the second floor. It was very private and cosy. The decor is great, many antique items in the parlor and dining room. As others have said, the location is great for the Quarter and Frenchman St. There are lots of local places to eat, one being the Cafe Rose Nicaud on Frenchman St, which is a favorite of ours. Loved the resident cat. We enjoyed our stay at the Inn and would not hesitate to go back again.

The perfect week in New Orleans! The location is wonderful being within walking distance of the hippest music and dining scene in the city. Also its on a major transit line which can get you almost anywhere for $1.25! My huge room was very comfortable (big big dreamy bed) and very clean (with a great shower!). The access to the huge gallery(balcony) makes for a really enjoyable way to people watch in total comfort and security. The best feature of this property however is the innkeeper, Philip. AWESOME! Enjoy your stay at Royal Street Courtyard - I sure did!
We enjoyed having you here too. Please plan a trip back to New Orleans soon. Thanks for the great review.

Fifteen members of my family 'took over' the RSCBB lately for a memorable four days. Phillip's attention to every detail and question and David's walking tours of the neighborhood were highlights. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and spotless. The neighborhood is quiet, friendly, and safe. We have already recommended it to several friends and hope to go back again!

Innkeeper Phillip offered a friendly welcome and comprehensive tour of the property and the neighborhood. He never ceased to have a good recommendation for food and fun. Inn is located a few short blocks from the french quarter and offered a quiet alternative to the busy downtown (uptown?) area. Be forewarned however, those of you 5'5" and taller, decorative claw foot tub/showers are lovely, but you have to contort yourself to get your head under the water.
Thanks for the nice review. You'll be happy to know we have replaced those showerheads with adjustable rain showerheads that a 6'5" guest could stand under. You'll have to come back and try them out :-)

We just returned from a trip to New Orleans (our first time) and had a wonderful stay at Royal Street Courtyard. David and Phillip were extremely cordial and helpful. They gave us wonderful suggestions for dining that we wouldn't have found on our own, and were helpful with places to see around NO. This was our first time staying at a B&B and truly enjoyed our experience. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay, and we will be back.

Absolutely wonderful. Our New Orleans trip was already pretty great, but staying at the Royal Street Courtyard really made the whole experience SPECTACULAR. The property is well within walking distance of Frenchmen St. as well as the Quarter. We (2 short asian girls!) never at all felt nervous about walking back and forth at night. RSC is a beautiful building: well kept, gorgeously landscaped (I love that little fountain) very comfortable. We booked room #10, which had access to the second floor balcony which overlooks the street. Beautiful room, very comfortable bed, and a fabulous balcony. Only caveat: I think some lounge chairs would have been great. We took naps splayed out on the balcony on the hottest parts of the day, and the breeze and shade were wonderful. Room #10's bathroom is not ensuite - it's a door down the hallway. Caveat: TINY Bathroom, but very charming. The only bad thing was due to the humidty, it could get a little moldy smelling in the bathroom. No biggie - we would keep the door cracked open when were weren't using it. The shower was quite small but there was excellent water pressure, and deliciously cold weather. Breakfast choices were nice - make sure to get some raisin bread and toast it, and eat with a little cream cheese. AWESOME. As for our hosts, Phillip was a doll. We loved him - very charming, very helpful, and fun to chit-chat with whenever we ran into him. He's not intrusive at all - supremely easy to talk to, but also never makes you feel like you HAVE to make awkward small talk. Make sure to take some time to just hang out and chill and enjoy the RSC. I wish we'd taken more time to hang out on the porch and play with the cats, or sit out back in the hot tub. Next time, we're staying here again!
Fantastic review. Nicely detailed. Thank you very much.

The Royal Street Courtyard lives up to its billing. It's just as attractive in reality as it is in the pictures. Phillip and David paid attention to all of the small details. A great weekend getaway spot! Highly recommended.

I am staying here again when I return to New Orleans. Philip was simply the best. Friendly and helpful. The place was beautiful with 14' ceilings and wonderful decor. The bed was so comfortable I almost slept the entire afternoon and the neighborhood was very nice. Very close to the French Quarter but not in the midst of it. Really a great place to stay!

Within walking distance to the Quarter and Frenchmen, you don't need to take any cabs when you stay here. The service is excellent and the rooms (especially those on the balcony) clean and, ornate, make you feel right at home. My only complaint is the price -- it should be twice as much!

Very privileged and fortunate to stay in such a beautiful house with really lovely hosts. Phillip and David not only ensure your every guest need is catered for, they extend a friendly welcome that extends to the last minute you stay with them. Stay and appreciate the architecture, the characters and the attractions within this part of the city. We parked the car right out the front of the house and walked for the duration of the stay. Thank you, we will always have happy memories of your hospitality.

Our trip was from August 23-30, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience! Phillip and David are spectacular hosts, and can tell you anything you need to know about dining or touring New Orleans. Our friend decided to join us at the last minute, and they were more than gracious in accommodating us, even with the very short notice. There are a variety of dining options in the area, depending on what you're looking for and how far you are willing to travel. For the concept alone, Schiro's Community Center was the best; it's a neighborhood grocery/bar/Laundromat just a block away, with great food and a very local neighborhood flavor. The French Quarter is about a mile away, but easy to navigate (there are no hills in the city), even in the hot weather that we had during our stay. Better music and more fun was closer, on Frenchmen Street, which was a mere 5 blocks away. We walked all over the area and felt very safe, although I would never walk in any major city alone after dark. We stayed in Room 9, complete with a balcony, and our own bathroom was just across the hall. This might be a problem for some travelers, but not a big deal for us at all, and some rooms do have private baths. An assortment of muffins, breakfast pastries, cereals, bagels, fruit, juice and coffee comprised our breakfast options. Lots of old world charm, very comfortable and funky fun! Clean, very cost-efficient and over the top service, we are already planning our next trip!

I stumbled upon the Royal Street Courtyard by accident while looking to book our normal room in a larger hotel in the French Quarter and decided to see if they had rooms available. When I called and talked to Phillip I knew without a doubt this would be my new home away from home while staying in New Orleans! When I arrived I was amazed at how nice this B&B was, especially for the price! I usually pay at least double for half the charm and style so to say the least I was excited about the stay. The room we stayed in (#11) was beautifully decorated and VERY clean. The bed was comfy and made us feel more like we were sleeping at home then in some hotel. Overall the entire experience was more like going and staying with friends then taking a trip to a hotel. Phillip was the most helpful inn keeper I have ever met! Although I felt as if my many phone calls were a bother he was always more then willing to give help and information and bent over backwards to make sure we were comfortable and happy! We stay in New Orleans often, usually 2 or more times a month and have stayed at many of what people think are top notch hotels and Royal Street Courtyard blows all of these over-priced, unfriendly, tourist attractions out of the water! We WILL be back and will make sure to tell everyone we know about this true gem!! Thanks Phillip and David, we love you guys!

Great hospitality started before I ever stepped foot on the property. I was driving solo from Atlanta and Phillip called my cell to make sure everything was okay. As I got closer to the property, I called Phillip who directed me to available street parking. That's just awesome service. It continued through my 2 day stay. The property had the 3 C's I always require: clean, comfortable, and close to attractions and restaurants. Phillip was very knowledgeable of good restaurants and bars along with the history of the area. I don't know what more to say but I definitely will return to New Orleans and Royal Street Courtyard will be my choice of B&B.

This place is wonderful. You are not at a B&B here you are part of New Orleans Baby! You are going to want to move here, and you feel like its your home. What fabulous inn keepers. Our absolute #1 favorite! Go now, dont wait!

My partner and I had an incredible time in New Orleans, and staying at the Royal Street Courtyard had a lot to do with that. The location and appearance is excellent, much better than I expected.

We loved everything about the RSC. Phillip and David are great. The house is beautiful. The locations is not too far from all the happenings, but not too close that its gets too crazy. Its absolutely perfect. A definite recommend!

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Royal for 4 days. It is a magnificent place. Phillip and David were both very knowledgeable of the city and of events taking place in town. It's a nice walk from the Royal to the French Quarter, just a few blocks away. In a very peaceful and quiet part of town. We will be returning in Feb for Mardi Gras. I give it an A++.

It's clear to see that the Faubourg Marigny has deep roots. The sidewalks are great fun after a few drinks! However, the sidewalks around The Royal Street Courtyard are fine. Current innkeepers Phillip Lege and David Smith obviously and lovingly care for this charming bed and breakfast. Phillip was full of knowledge for local eateries and entertainment and couldn't have been more pleasant and accommodating. We had room ten, on the second floor. The room had floor to ceiling windows which are counter-weighted to open fully onto the large, spectacular balcony complete with original, beautiful wrought iron and hand carved cypress finials overhead running the entire width of the house. A small round table with chairs and wicker couch were also on the balcony. Sitting out there, perched above the street each morning and evening was calming, watching interesting people of the neighborhood below, some riding their bikes or scooters with musical instruments strapped aboard, headed to wherever. The bedding was comfortable and attractive. Plenty of drawer space on the marble topped dresser and matching bedside nightstands. A mid-sized armoire tops off enough space to stay several weeks. The bathroom for room ten is across the hall with shower only. No tub. It was well maintained and the towels were nice and fluffy. Having to cross the hall to use this room may be an inconvenience to some but having the large king bed room with access to the balcony makes it worthwhile. The continental breakfasts were above satisfactory and the coffee was great. The Faubourg Marigny is a very nice place to stay. Not far from the now famous Frenchman St. You can be in the center of the Vieux Carre' (French Quarter) within a fifteen minute, safe stroll all the while viewing and enjoying the local architectural history. No car needed! We would stay there again (and again). Thanks Phillip and David. Hope visit again soon.

This was our first time back since the storm and we had a wonderful time. The RS Courtyard is a beautiful property in a wonderful neighborhood. Your steps from the action on Frenchmen St. and blocks from the Quarter. Phillip and David are both knowledgable, friendly and incredibly accomodating. We couldn't have had a nicer stay!

Stayed at Royal Street Courtyard January 2007. It was my first experience with a B&B and it was EXCELLENT! I wasn't sure what to think at first, but the style and charm of the place wins you over. Not to mention the owners! Philip is a treat and VERY knowledgeable about attractions and places to see in New Orleans. He not only recommended a most excellent restaurant more on that below) for us he kept me company while my travel partner slept! Talk about above and beyond! If he recommends that you dine at Adolpho's (sp?) GO, it is some of the best food you will ever eat. Take cash as that is all that they accept at Adolpho's. The rooms and bathroom at the B&B were nice, organized and clean. Overall one of the best travel experiences I have had. I will definitely go and vist Philip, I mean stay at the Royal Street Courtyard again!

I stayed at Royal Street Courtyard with friends in 2006 the first weekend of Mardi Gras. The owners are very nice and helpful. The premises are very clean. It's just a beautiful and well priced place to stay. It's an easy walk to the French Quarter, and pretty close to the aquarium and St. Charles Street Car. It's also right on the route for the Krewe de Vieux parade, so you can sit up on the porch and watch! I'm coming back this year and I know I will return many more times to Royal Street Courtyard.
