Rooms would of been outstanding if the bed had been more comfortable. It was a very hard mattress. Onsite dining is fresh fruit, instant oatmeal, cereal, etc. It is just as pictured. This B & B has some added features not included in the rating system: 1.) LOCATION: It is in an a VERY QUIET neighborhood in the Garden District. It makes for an excellent retreat from a busy day spent in the French Quarter. 2.) CONVENIENCE: It is ONE block from the St. Charles trolley stop that will take you directly to the beginning of Bourbon Street, 3.) HISTORICAL VALUE: From the reclaimed bar / counter in the breakfast area to capped off well in the foyer of the building, this B & B is full of charm and history.

Great location just a block away from the Street car. Quiet neighborhood.I understand that this is an old house but could use some new paint.. and the toilet was very small and I am not a large guy. All in all a nice place to stay but could use some sprucing up.

Perfect hosts and location for walking around the Garden District and into the French Quarter. Or if not into walking the streetcar is only 1 block away. Room was perfect with much needed air-con unit to combat the New Orleans humidity. Beatrix and Ross were extremely friendly hosts available when required to provide advice, information or make bookings.

We found this b&b about a month before arrival. Owners were very welcoming, flexible, gracious. Breakfast is lovely. Rooms were nice, quaint, and just what we needed. Only a block from streetcar, so access to downtown is awesome. Would definitely go back.

Acceptable B&B that is worth the room rate and surpasses the comfort of a hotel of similar price. The breakfasts were mediocre but, given the location, it was a matter of a short walk to find superior food. The room was comfortable (good queen mattress) and reasonably quiet given the neighborhood. The air conditioning unit was noisy but earplugs saved the day. The entire facility was immaculately clean and, more important than anything else, the B&B was a quick walk away from 95% of our tourist destinations. It wouldn't be a place we'd fight to get back to but it was good enough for our needs.

We stayed in the long sweet, room 13. The balcony was mine and my husbands favorite part. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Private parking was nice for our new Jeep Wrangler. Being 1 block from St. Charles and a couple of blocks from Magazine, we were able to walk everywhere we went, even the French quarter; although that was a long hike and through tent town. All in all the B&B was wonderfully located and suitable for my husband and I. We are vegan so we did not have the breakfast but Seed down the road had some amazing vegan and raw dishes, just 2 blocks away. LOVE

My wife and I decided to stay overnight in the city to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We found the Fairchild after scouring websites for a place to stay overnight at a reasonable rate. The $$ for hotels in New Orleans is outrageous. Although we arrived early (11:00 am), Miss Beatriz checked us in, showed us all around the B&B, let us park in their secured parking area and gave us a key to the gate that secures the property. Our room, #16,was a second floor room. The room was a good size and had its own bathroom. Remember, this bldg is probably 100 years old, so yes, the floor creaked a bit and had a bit of a slant in places, but doesn't that really add character ? The room was very clean as well as the bathroom. Towels were great. Furniture was old and mis-matched, but once again, adds to the character. The room had a super cold mini-fridge, coffee maker and cable TV. We didn't have the breakfast, but I'm sure it would of been perfectly acceptable. Overall, The Fairchild helped make our anniversary Overnighter memorable.

We went to New Orleans for a visit to WWII Museum and we could walk to the museum from Fairchild House. From check in to check out everyone was very friendly and helpful. The room was nice and very quiet. Breakfast was good and the breakfast room is beautiful.

Great value location with available free parking in N.O. Only 1 block to walk to Street Car and several dining venues. The owner is so nice and she and her staff are knowledgeable and helpful with info on what to do and how to get there. Stayed in Room 18 which was a ground floor suite back away from the tree-lined street, quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was sufficient for a B&B with mostly cold cereals, breads, yogurt, and cake but the atmosphere and the friendliness make up for the non-IHOP menu. We usually stay in big name hotels, but the prices in N.O. are exorbitant, so this is a wonderful alternative. The beautiful old buildings are so quaint looking on the quiet shady side street, it feels like coming home after a long day of sightseeing in the hustle and bustle of downtown. Thanks Beatriz and Nicole for a lovely 3 days.

Stayed in New Orleans for 5 days for a conference. The room was very clean and had a very old style decoration which I really liked. The cleaning ladies where changing our towels every day as well as cleaning the room. The service was exceptional and everyone was very helpful. The breakfast doesn't have many options but everything is very yummy and looked homemade. I ours definitely recommend this place!! Also the area is safe and just 2 minutes walking to the closest street car stop.

We very much enjoyed our stay from our late arrival and greeting by Roland to our late departure. Beatrice who ran the place felt like an old friend by the time we left. She was so friendly and gave us great pointers about the area, about the close restaurants and the best way to use the street cars. She was very accommadating. We were there during the French Quarter Festival. We will be staying here again.

Much better than a French Quarter Hotel, this b&b had lots of space and was very reasonably priced. We were next to Magasine street and the streetcar that took us right in to the French quarter. It was a comfortable and relaxing place to come back to after a full day or night in the big easy.

Fairchild House has a fabulous location within walking distance of many good bars and restaurants. It is also one block from the St. Charles streetcar line ($3 for an all day pass!). Our room was clean and the price was great when looking at the proximity to the museums, the garden district, and the french quarter. We also really enjoyed the breakfast. Located in a sunny room with many tables there were several food options. Although not super luxurious, this place was exactly what we were looking for on our recent weekend to NOLA. With so much to see in the area if you are looking for a somewhere convenient to stay in a great location at a great price with friendly and helpful staff, Fairchild House is a great option!!

The Fairchild House is the quintessential New Orleans B&B. Typical Garden-District style homes that make you really feel like you're in New Orleans. The location is perfect with streetcar stops within a bock or two and plenty of great dining and pubs within walking distance. Don't expect ultra-modern rooms, amenities, or eat-off-the-floor cleanliness - it's New Orleans. Our hosts were kind, helpful, and accommodating, and breakfasts were great. We will stay again.

A good value for money. Rooms are simple but comfortable. The personnel is very nice.
4.2 on November 17, 2015
For the price, the Fairchild House is incredible. It is just one block from lots of restaurants and a streetcar ride away from most of the rest of New Orleans. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were clean. The only detail is running a large place like this in a party town, the carpeting is a little dirty and worn. Wi-fi worked great. Never had time to try the breakfast but did see Beatriz working hard to prepare it and it looked like a nice continental spread.

These are beautiful old buildings located in a quiet section of Prytania St. We really enjoyed the closeness to St. Charles and the street cars as well as Magazine Street. We also loved relaxing in the shady courtyard and getting to listen to some of the locations history thanks to Ms. Rita.

The rooms are adequate and kept very clean and neat. The continental breakfast is sufficient and the owners are very helpful. The best part about this Inn is its proximity to the French quarter, The museums and the garden District
4.6 on May 15, 2015
Location only 15 mins from convention centre and 10 from WWII museum. On the edge of the beautiful garden district of NOLA, where there are lots of decent places to eat on St Charles and Magazine. Fairchild is a complex of two properties with a terrace at the back. The main thing is that the owner Beatriz, her mum Rita and Ross who works the reception are so wonderfully friendly and give great local knowledge as well as always taking time for interesting conversation. The rooms are fairly simple but the bed is comfortable and the shower is good. There's very little noise from traffic as Prytania doesn't have many passing cars. The breakfast is good quality and generous with a selection of breads, yoghourt, fresh fruit, cold cuts, scrambled eggs , and so on. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual making it easy to speak to other guests. If I come to NOLA again I will definitely stay here!

My partner and I stayed here for the 1st week of Jazz Fest. I was looking online for a B&B that was a good price and available for the time we were staying and I stumbled upon the Fairchild House. I stayed in a standard queen room with carpeting and it was cute and quaint. We had crisp white bedsheets with no stains evident; the room itself was clean and tidy. The bed was very comfortable, almost to the point we didn't want to get out of it. When we arrived, it was almost midnight and there was someone there to welcome us & take us to the room where the a/c was already blasting. Breakfast in the morning (8:30-9:30) wasn't anything extravagant but definitely what I expected & there was enough for all the guests staying there. The location of the house was so convenient. A block away from St. Charles Street Car which took you to the Quarter for a $3.00 all-day pass. From the Quarter we were able to take the Canal St. Car to City Park/Museum of Art and then walk about 10-15 mins to Fairgrounds where Fest was held. WWII Museum was also close to the House as well as the Riverbend where Harrah's Casino is and there's an outlet mall and you can take tours of the Mississippi and have dinner on a boat. All in all we had a great time for an unbeatable price considering the time we stayed. Beatriz was also a very good host and very friendly. I highly recommend staying here and if I come back to NOLA I will make an effort to stay here again.

The house was beautiful. The room was quiet, we did not hear other guests. The breakfast was perfect, with a fresh fruit salad, bagels, yoghurt, cereal, toast and more. We felt really welcome. We arrived late and that was no problem. The owner showed us the parking space and the room. In no way we felt rushed, even if it was late in the evening. The room was lovely and with lots of character, as is the entire property. We even had a kitchenette in the room. Parking space was available behing the house and was complimentary. The house is close to the French Quarter, which you should visit by trolley. Trolleys are really cheap. You can ride them back and forth all day for 3 dollars per person. It's also really close to the lovely garden district. Loved this place!

In my opinion, this is a true Bed and Breakfast. Very nice and helpful owners. Clear rooms. Location was perfect, just 3 min walk to street car. Surrounded by beautiful Garden District. Do not need a car. Cab is $33 one way from/to airport for 2 people. We are 100% satisfied! Thank you Beatriz and the team!

Nice, quiet, and an easy walk into both the Garden District or the French Quarter. The room was spotless, comfortable, and everyone we met was friendly. The neighborhood, which is lovely during the day, can get a little creepy late at night but there is a streetcar stop literally a block away, so if you're heading back from the French Quarter in the little hours, skip the walk under the highway underpass and hop on a streetcar instead.

My husband and I stayed at Fairchild for one night this spring. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The AC unit was rather inconveniently placed, though. It was blowing right on the bed no matter how we placed the vents. It was a little chilly. The breakfast was more of what I would have expected from a small hotel chain, not a bed and breakfast. We had cereal, yogurt, a store bought cake, and some toast. The location was convenient and we would likely stay here again.
3.6 on April 08, 2015
We could not have been happier about our choice to stay at Fairchild House. The rooms are cute and tidy, but you shouldn't be extremely sensitive to noise since it's an old house. Beatriz, the owner, and Ross who works in the lobby, gave us great tips for amazing places to eat and things to do in the neighborhood and the rest of the city, which was really helpful since it was our first stay in NOLA. The house is just a jump away from a street car stop, which takes you to the French Quarter in just 15 minutes. But also exploring your neighborhood the Garden district is definitely worth the stay, with magazine St and St. Charles Ave very close by.

Stayed five nights at Fairchild House while attending a conference at the Cinvention Center. So glad I did, as I got out of the Convention Center bubble and enjoyed some New Orleans charm, and saved money as well. About 15 minute walk to Conv. Center. Thoroughly enjoyed neighborly hospitality of the staff. My arriving flight was delayed by three hours so I arrived ~2:30 a.m., but staff kept the light on for me and graciously checked me in. Just one block from St. Charles trolley line and plenty of restaurants and other services available there.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Fairchild House. It's in a great location, next to some great restaurants and down the street from the trolley. If you've never stayed in a historic house before the slanting might catch you off guard but I think it added to the historic charm of the place. The staff was wonderful and friendly. We really think we got a great deal for the price we paid. We will definitely return.

We really enjoyed our stay at Fairchild. The location is in the Garden District, which is a really lovely neigborhood. It is calm, so you can sleep well, but there are also numerous pubs and restaurants in the area. It's about 2 minutes by foot to the streetcar that takes you to the French Quarter. The breakfast is pretty good. On some days, Beatriz would make scrambled eggs and/or her delicious egg bread. Beatriz and the rest of the staff were very nice and helpful. The rooms are clean. One thing that could be improved is that our bed mattress was a little old, in some parts of the mattress, we could feel the spring, but nothing dramatic. I definitely recommend staying here!

This hotel is such a great little slice of historical New Orleans. I have stayed here twice now and Beatriz and Ross have been so welcoming and have takend such good care of me during my stay. I love this B&B because the buildings are beautiful and the rooms are very well decorated. It centally located close to St. Charles and Magazine.

The service, first of all, was outstanding. They were able to work with us and answer all of my questions before we ever checked in. The staff were all friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The gated on site parking alone made it worth it. As for the property, it is historic and therefore old. The buildings were beautiful, but our room (standard queen) was a bit run down. Clean, but run down. I imagine the higher rate rooms were more maintained. With that said, New Orleans is an old city. Everything is a bit run down. Fairchild House was clean, secure, and conveniently located. We were able to walk everywhere. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again.
3.4 on February 04, 2015
Our stay was very nice. The room was big and quiet. The kitchenette was a pleasant surprise. The location is perfect, out of the noisy French Quarter & only 1 block off the streetcar line. We would definitely stay there again.
3.8 on January 20, 2015
Fairchild B&B is good value for money - only two blocks from the streetcar stop, it's a quick trip downtown, and rooms are fairly clean and comfortable. Breakfast is basic (there was something egg-based one of the two nights I was there, but otherwise it's toast, cereal, coffee, juice), and rooms are very old (slightly peeling paint, signs of water damage on the ceiling, ancient furniture). All in all, I would recommend this B&B to tourists on a budget.

The Fairchild House was a quiet, comfortable "home base" for exploring historic New Orleans and road trips into the surrounding environs. Beatrice and her mom were perfect hosts, pleasant and engaging without being the least bit intrusive. We'll be back!

The four poster bed, high ceilings, claw footed bathtub/show communicated clearly that I was in New Orleans. The service was very friendly. Breakfast that was included in the price was not exciting but conversations with guests and hosts made up for it.

So nice to stay in a beautiful, historic home run by "real people". Beatrice and her mom were gracious hostesses and made breakfast a pleasant occasion. Rooms could use a touch more decorating, perhaps, but were clean, comfortable, and everything worked. PERFECT location.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Fairchild House on a recent trip and totally loved it. Our room (room 10) was clean, spacious, and comfortable. Each morning, breakfast was served in a cozy dining room, and it included coffee, fruit, breads, and even freshly scrambled eggs. Ample parking space was provided behind the house. This B&B is centrally located yet far away enough from the French Quarter that you won't be disturbed by the noise of party-goers outside; there are plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance of the B&B as well. Beatriz is a great host!

This was my first stay at a B&B so I was not sure what to expect. Beatirz,, her mom and also Ross were very accommodating and gracious hosts. The continental breakfast was a bit more than the average one would expect. Beatriz would serve a unique homemade egg dish each morning which was a nice surprise. Rooms are kept clean and comfortable. The charm of the old houses was very appealing. The surrounding neighborhood was very nice and quiet, made for nice walks in the area. Very close to the street car on St. Charlies and plenty of food, bars and stores within walking distance. Definitely a good experience for my first B&B. Thank you.

Stayed for six nights. Much cheaper than most B&B's in the area. Breakfast leaves something to be desired. Bed was clean and comfy and the rest of the place was too. Dated furniture and the bathroom floor had a slant to it. The room took care of my basic needs and I slept well at night despite facing the street. The air conditioning work well however their was a door to the stand alone closet that didn't close. Staff was helpful when asking questions on how to find things and tours in the area. Would stay again.

Rooms were clean and spacious. Continental breakfast, served from 8:30 to 9:30, got the job done in a cozy kitchen. It was a 10 minute walk to the convention center, but probably best to do this by daylight as you walk under a highway. It was located right near St. Charles and Magazine which were great for long strolls. The hostesses were brazilian, so if you speak Portuguese they'll definitely help you practice. Wi-fi worked well enough for streaming and VPN. I will definitely stay here again.

Fairchild House B&B is a great value for money place to stay in New Orleans. If you are looking for an expensive all out luxury hotel (which will unlikely meet your expectations) this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a room to stay in while you are visiting New Orleans then there is nothing better than I recommend rather than staying here at Fairchild. Its location is amazing. It is extremely close to the convention center (8 mins walk) and to the WW2 National museum also (4 mins walk). Being very close to St. Charles street and to a tram stop allows one to easily and quickly head to other parts of New Orleans and explore the area. The staff of Fairchild are also extremely friendly - willing to share and help visitors of their local knowledge. Breakfast at Fairchild was also very good. Nothing fancy, but more than enough for a good breakfast - which is all that one really needs. I highly recommend Fairchild for anyone else to stay during their NO visit and I myself will be staying there next time I go to New Orleans.

I have stayed here twice. Both times were outstanding. I love the authenticity of the house and its age. I enjoyed the feeling of being in a true New Orleans gem and not a fancy hotel. Those are nice too, but if you come to New Orleans and want to really feel what it is to be one of us..stay here. There are others closer even in the quarter but when its time to relax you won't find peace and quiet there. One block to St Charles street car will take u where u want.

We were passing thru Nola and decided to spend the afternoon exploring what we could. A good friend recommended this B n B and we were satisfied with the choice. The location is close enough to walk to the Garden District and one block from the St Charles streetcar. The B n B is an older building so it has some "charms" about it. Rooms are spacious, decently furnished, and clean. The innkeeper Beatrice is what makes the stay special. She is very welcoming and helpful, cheerful and interested in who you are. Full disclosure, she is related by marriage to my friend, but didn't give us any special attention that she didn't give to the other guests. I would stay here again upon my return.

The Fairchild House is on the outskirts of the Garden District in an area that is a bit sketchy if you have plans to walk to the French Quarter. Our room was clean. Unfortunately the air conditioner was so loud that we could not sleep. Turning it off made the room extremely warm. We ended up having to move to another hotel for the second night of our stay. It ended up being a costly stay.

Found this bed and breakfast last minute for a stay in July. Think we ended up with smallest and basic room. It did the job, we needed somewhere to stay and shower, free parking, quiet neighborhood. We were surprised at the very small tv, but we really didn't need it that much. Bathroom was small, shower was even smaller but seemed fairly clean for the most part. We didn't eat breakfast here, so can't comment on that, but we were shown were to go if we desired.

I had a very enjoyable stay. This B&B is fairly centrally located, making it easy to walk or take the street cars to most of the New Orleans attractions. I particularly liked the secured parking. I parked my car Sunday and did not move it until I left on Wednesday. My room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water for a shower. That works for me.

We stayed at the Fairfield House Bed and Breakfast after finding a recommendation for it online from an experienced traveler. We found it to be charming - it had that real old Southern mansion ambiance. Roland gave us excellent and caring assistance. Beatriz and Rita were also a great help on the phone. We particularly appreciated this a good place to stay between Amtrak trains - the Crescent line runs every day and arrives 7:30 pm, but the connecting service that continues west, the Sunset Limited, leaves 9:00 am and runs every other day. We stayed one night for a total of $101.57 for a queen bed. which includes a light breakfast - you can't beat that for what you get - look at the pictures on their web site! Two cautions: let the hotel get you a taxi coming from the train station - we $20 plus tip when we arranged the taxi going to the hotel, but only $10 plus tip when the hotel arranged it going back. Also, stay three nights instead of one - we did not have enough time there.

My husband and I stayed at the Fairchild bed and breakfast and we had a wonderful stay. The staff are very helpful and welcoming and kind. We had never been to New Orleans before and they were polite and very helpful in answering my husband and my questions about where to go and what to do. Out of our 4 day stay we only ate the breakfast there 1 time because we were so busy but it was good. Not only was this place cute and clean it was like a home away from home. We will definitely be back here and would definitely recommend this place to others!!!

Fairchild House is a gem in a neighborhood that offers easy accessibility to great food and the trolley. It was clean, safe, and quiet. Breakfast was a perfect holdover for our dinners out (which were heavy and alcohol filled). The St. Charles trolley is one block away and for $3 you can ride back and forth (to the French Qtr) all day until 4 am (far cheaper than a cab). I loved all the antiques in the house (it's actually 3 houses). I took little mini tours every morning after breakfast to see everything. My boyfriend and I will definitely be back.

The room was very nice even had it's own outside private entrance. The locate was perfect to hope on the Street cars had head either down to Bourbon street or any of the other great attractions and come back to a nice quite location to recharge.

We met mostly with Beatriz and Ross (Russ?), both of whom were friendly and helpful. It rained heavily during our stay, and umbrellas were available to us. The property is only a block away from the St. Charles street car, and there are lots of dining options around the area.

This was our first time visiting New Orleans. They are situated in the Garden district which was great for early morning exploring and only a block from the trolley, which led to adventures in the French Quarter. The staff was fantastic, giving suggestions of where to go, places to check out and what was available in the immediate area for food and entertainment.

This was a wonderful old B&B for a good value. It was very centrally located close to everything in New Orleans. Would recommend to anyone on a budget!

I had a great time staying at Fairchild House. It is convenient for exploring the whole of New Orleans and the St. Charles Street car stop is only a block away. It is situated in the Garden district but not too far away from Downtown. Comfortable room and a simple but satisfactory breakfast. I would definitely stay again if I returned to the city.

Fairchild House was quaint and run by a friendly staff. The location was perfect (accessible to both the Garden District and CBD/French Quarter). The rooms were kept tidy, however could use seasonal cleanings to freshen up rugs and a/c filters.

Everyone was very helpful and even allowed us to check in early since our flight landed early. That was very helpful! Our room was ok, there were stains on the carpet and the bathroom door was 2-3 feet from the bed. The bathroom door doesn't close, it was warped from the heat I guess and even has damage from where it has been this way for so long without being fixed. There was only one small mirror in the bathroom and nothing in the bedroom so it was difficult to have two people getting ready at the same time. Otherwise, as I said, everyone was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The bed was comfortable and clean and we slept like babies. My main issue was with the bathroom door, nothing takes the mystery out of a relationship like using the restroom with the door open (only partially) and especially when it's 2 feet from the bed. The room did need to be repainted as it looked like the job was started and never finished but this is just aesthetics and didn't make or break my stay. It is close to the st Charles street car and the start of magazine street shopping so, overall, in a great location.

We had such a lovely stay at the Fairchild. The location is excellent-- just far enough from the French Quarter that it's a quiet and low-key place to stay, but close enough to walk to everything you want to see in New Orleans, especially if the weather's nice!. The breakfast was delicious and the rooms were comfy/cozy. I'd absolutely return here and recommend it to others.

We have a reservation for a return visit coming up soon!

This was a great value, and it totally reminded me of the my old apartment when I used to live in New Orleans. My room had huge windows, hardwood floors, high ceilings, and antique furniture. I liked that there was a kitchenette and free WIFI. I would suggest that the innkeepers put in more furniture with larger drawers. The innkeepers were friendly, and the breakfast was more than just "continental." This B&B is located conveniently in the Lower Garden District, within easy walking distance to the CBD, convention center, Warehouse District, Uptown, streetcars, and bus lines. I would definitely staying here again some day.

I made last minute reservations in NOLA. This hotel had easy access to the French Quarter and I had no issues. They had free parking off the street with easy access to your car if needed. The InnKeepers were extremely nice and pleasant. The guest were also pleasant to talk too. I would go back if necessary. Thanks for allowing us to stay at your B & B. LL

My girlfriend and I stayed here over the weekend because most of the hotels in town were booked for some convention. We were overall very pleased with the Fairchild House. The location, one block from the St Charles streetcar line in the garden district was very convenient. We parked our car in the private gated lot behind the building and left it there all weekend. There is a New Orleans police officer who acts as security gaurd for the whole block surrounding the building at night making us feel even safer in an already nice area of the city. The only complaint I have from our whole stay is the bed was very firm and I could feel the springs. My girlfriend didnt mind it at all but I really had trouble sleeping through the night. The staff were very polite and willing to offer any advice you were looking for. I think next time i stay in New Orleans i would prefer a hotel but this was a fun and different experience that I would definitely recommend. We enjoyed it very much!

Fairchild House is very close to St Charles trolley and Magazine St. A mile from down town and easy walk to the Garden district. My room ( $89 ) was basic but clean and comfortable with a great garden walk out. Fairchild has much nicer rooms than the one I stayed in but mine was fine for what I wanted. Great restaurants within close walking distance. Owners and staff could not have been more helpful in making recommendations for places to eat or check out. I would happily stay there again.
4.0 on January 29, 2014
The Fairchild House is in a very old, wooden building, and so comes with the attendant problems. The sound insulation isn't perfect, the rooms show their age a little, but all in all, I find that part of the appeal of a B&B. The place is obviously cared for, and the service was wonderful. The bed was very comfortable, the towels soft and clean, and I never ran short of hot water. Given the price and its location near the French Quarter, but at the edge of the quieter Garden district, I think that this is an excellent value, and would recommend it.

Nothing fancy but certainly acceptable, charming even, with top of the line linens and everything working ok. Hosts were quite friendly, breakfast was simple but good (including fresh fruit), street parking readily available. My only concern was the windows didn't open which I feel is a fire/safety hazard.

Quirky, lovely B & B about 5/10 mins by Tram to 'downtown' French Quarter. Owner, Beatriz was very helpful & full of good advice. I can't wait too return for another visit. Only negative was the tiny old TV in the bedroom - however it seemed to go with the place!

This was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast and the pickings were slim as my event (a friend's wedding) was the same weekend as Voodoo Fest. The room didn't look like the picture online, but it had a nice bathroom, a small TV, and a nice kitchenette. Although I wasn't in my room most of the time we were in town, it had a nice homey feel to it. Breakfast (of which I had both mornings during my stay) had a nice variety of food and beverages. I felt very welcome and enjoyed chatting with the owners who were always asking if I needed any suggestions for food, entertainment, or fun things to do. Since I was in town for a friend's wedding and didn't get much time to be a tourist, I didn't get to hear their suggestions, but I do plan on returning as the location was in a very comfortable feeling area. Parking was nice. They had a small parking space that was gated that could maybe fit 5 vehicles, but there was always space for my car. Even if the area was full, I would feel comfortable leaving my car on the street. The B&B was in a very nice area. Within walking distance was the best sushi I had ever had, along with other restaurants I can't wait to try. Being a block away from St. Charles, it was secluded enough that I didn't feel the hustle and bustle of the city, but close enough to walk to Lee Circle or the WWII museum which I did get a chance to finally see. I live in Covington so it wasn't too exotic of a trip, but my fiance and I have both decided that should we need to stay in NOLA again, we'd definitely stay at Fairchild. The value was nice, the staff friendly, location perfect, and the atmosphere was very welcoming.

My husband and I recently stayed here during our first visit to New Orleans. The main wing of the hotel is apparently undergoing some renovations, so we were in the second building. The room we had was upstairs, with a private entrance we more or less used exclusively. The facilities were antiquated, including a claw-footed tub that was held level by a folded-up FedEx envelope. Despite the fact that things were older, the Fairchild House had its own charm. The towels were luxurious and replaced every day, the location is in the middle of the Garden District and conveniently located one block from the St. Charles streetcar line and a short walk from Magazine Street. There's plenty to do and see nearby, and conveniences like a Walgreens within a couple of minutes. The complimentary wi-fi also made our trip a lot easier, as we were able to look up a lot of resources without having to eat into our data plans. Breakfast is, as others have mentioned, very light, with little more than coffee, yogurt, toast, and some coffee cake during the weekdays, and slightly heavier fare on the weekends. Probably the best resource was the hosts, who are all locals and who can give great advice as to what to do and see around the area. You won't get better a better bang for your buck than the Fairchild House - moderate prices, great location, and reasonable amenities.

Enjoyed my stay at the Fairchild House B&B. Very good communication with owners--I arrived late but they were waiting for me to let me in. Room was clean and comfortable with ac and my own bathroom. The B&B was very quiet and in a historic area that is being gentrified--very close to the St Charles Avenue streetcar and also good restaurants. Would happily come back and will pass onto friends planning to visit NOLA.

My fiance and I stayed at this bed and breakfast for two nights recently. I was hesistant at first, having always stayed downtown in a hotel on our past trips. I was blown away by the bed and breakfast atmosphere and friendliness! The room was small but very clean with access to the rest of the house and huge front porch with rockers. The breakfast each morning exceeded my expectations with home made quiches and breakfast breads, fruits, yogurt, cereal and juice. The owner Beatrice was the nicest lady you have ever met, stopping to chat at breakfast and helping us with a find fun things to do and eat in the city. My husband and I stayed here for a quick little getaway since he had never been to New Orleans. I didn't want to spend a fortune by booking a hotel nearby so we decided to go with a bed and breakfast. After searching a few hours for a great place, I found Fairchild House. The price was great and almost seemed too good to be true. When we arrived, the host was very helpful and sweet and guided us on where to park (which is gated and locked - very comforting). She then led us to our room which was quiet and dainty. The house is old so don't expect top notch quality. But it was great for the price! We found the area to be pretty quiet too which was nice after a long day of walking in the French Quarter. Also, the streetcar is located a block away which was extremely nice. When morning came we headed downstairs to the breakfast room where the host greeted us and welcomed us to the continental style breakfast. Nothing too fancy but we enjoyed it. Overall it was a lovely stay. No complaints here.

My boyfriend and I had a great week away here last month. This was our 3rd trip to New Orleans and our first time in a "bed and breakfast." We absolutely loved it here and plan to stay here again on our next trip. I think some of the people who have stayed here and have given it bad reviews are just too picky! The breakfast consists of bagels, toast, fresh fruit, coffee etc. It is nothing extravagant and it certainly doesn't claim to be. We started our mornings off with a cup of coffee there and then went on to eat breakfast else where because I LOVE beignets and can't get them anywhere in MO. Also there is a great breakfast place called the blue plate a block down the road. The room was perfect for us! I didn't mind the A/C as others have complained about being noisy. The house is a musty old smell but what do you expect in a 100+ year old building?!? Besides, we didn't spend much time in our room as we were out enjoying ourselves anyway. Beatriz and her mother are very sweet and make you feel welcomed. I also felt extremely safe at the Fairchild. Everything is locked and even our car was in a locked gate. There is also some kind of officer that stayed and patroled the neighborhood every night we were there. Great location as well!!!!!
Thank you for sharing your review. So glad you enjoyed yourselves at the B&B and in New Orleans. I think you got us! The office is hired by the furniture store down the block.

This was our first stay at a bed and breakfast. My hubby had a business meeting on Monday, and since we had never been to New Orleans we decided to make it into a mini get away. Unfortunately, I did not know that Jazz Fest was taking place, but stumbled upon the Fairchild B & B after much searching for reasonably priced accomodations. We had no difficulty in locating the Fairchild, and were happy to have secured off-street parking for our car. The room was comfortable, clean and both my husband and I slept like rocks each night. The rooms have "character" and "charm". The highlight or our stay was going down for breakfast each morning and chit-chatting with the Beatriz and her mother while enjoying coffee. My husband and I are both early risers and Beatriz let us slip in for "early" coffee. Breakfast was fabulous with breads, jams, fresh fruit and then a warm prepared breakfast dish. A wonderful way to start off each morning. The location of the Inn is fabulous, you are within walking distance of everything, and the trolley is one block away. Restaurants are abundant ranging from high end fine dining to a pizza joint. We had a great time in New Orleans, and the entire experience was enhanced by the Fairchild B & B. I can't wait to return in the Fall. Thanks Beatriz and Rita!
Loved having you here. Thank for staying and for taking the time to review the Fairchild House.

Fairchild is in an awesome location, Beatriz is an awesome hostess, the rooms are very quaint and roomy. The location is only 1 block from the trolleys and it seems very safe. However, we didn't dare turn on the ceiling fan cause you could see an inch of dust caked on it and the bedspread was stain and only hoped it was clean. Other than those areas the room was what I expected for an old, old b&b. If you are looking for something super modern, or a business center, or a doorman then this not the place for you. I found it quaint and they still use real keys for the doors. It's old but has a lot of charm and like I said in a great location!!

This is a quaint B&B. Everyone is friendly, the breakfast is awesome and the location is great. The only complaint is the chairs and bedspread in the room were stained and "looked" dirty, otherwise the room was clean and roomy. There are stairs so if they are difficult for you make sure you ask for a room on the bottom floor.

Basically, when I go to Nola, I'm just looking for a place to sleep in a safe convenient location. Fairchild House was perfect for me. The accommodations are New Orleans through and through. Great location. Outside of the French quarter (which is a plus for me) but close enough to get there in 5 minutes or less. Easy access to other New Orleans attractions: Audubon park and zoo, Tulane University, Central Business District, Superdome, etc. I always take my bicycle to New Orleans because that's the best way to get around in the French Quarter/Uptown area. The location was very secure. I never felt unsafe. There is secure parking on the property, but I parked on the street without a worry. After reading the reviews, I wasn't expecting much in the way of breakfast. But I was very pleased. In fact, Beatriz offered exactly what I have at home each day. As far as price, it's hard to find a lodging bargain in New Orleans, but this was one. I look forward to my next visit.

The short walk to the convention center was just enough exercise for my aging joints. We will be back to see you as soon as we can get back to New Orleans again!

My little family of three wanted to take our summer vacation in NOLA to do the Audubon Experience, but didn't want to stay right at the quarter due to the often higher prices charged to stay there. We booked with Beatriz for last weekend and I'm SO happy we did. She gave us the perfect room to accommodate us, and was informative long before our stay. She called me the week of just to let me know that she would be out of town on her own little vacation, but that there would be someone there to greet us. We arrived and were never kept waiting, checked right in, and we're given an immediate tour of the facilities. My first reaction was to the security: AMAZING. It's not located in a "bad" part of town, however you still like to know that your vehicle will be secure being parked for two days. 6-foot high+ iron privacy fence with key access and this included parking our car on site (for no extra charge!) A rarity in NOLA. The room was nice and cool when we arrived and clean! We were happy to have cable as the Olympics had just begun that night :) The only tiny issue I had with the room at all was water pressure, however I'm quite sure that isn't due to the fault of the inn, but most likely the area we were staying. The air flow is more limited at night outside the rooms so it can get a bit musty should you walk down the hall. But in the morning everything is back to full speed and fresh. Breakfast was a God-send as well! So many choices including breads, cereal, juices, cake and fruits. Another big money saver on top of an already great value! The bus and trolley stops are a block and a half up on St Charles and you'll have no trouble catching one to wherever you need to go. Restaurants are at the same corner and we ate dinner at two of them. Delich! Thank you to Beatriz and the wonderful staff left in charge in her absence!! We will return and can't wait to see them again!

the location was great to everything we had to do. Pleasure stroll in the Quarter, a wedding, and the reception at City Park. Also my sister has both knees replaced and they were helpful in giving us a room downstairs by the courtyard.

Decent comfortable place with acceptable breakfast for a short stay close to the convention center. Noisy air conditioners, so bring ear plugs.

We have enjoyed the Fairchild House twice for long visits to relatives in New Orleans. There is a relaxed, homelike feeling there. The rooms are clean. The service is friendly and good. The breakfast has something for everyone. The secure parking and outdoor patio make an extended stay more relaxed. The house is attractive, the location excellent, and the price is fair.

I have always wanted to go to New Orleans by myself and do the things I want to do! I stayed at the Fairchild Bed and Breakfast Friday May 18 to Monday Monday May 21 2012. It was in great location and just a block away from the St. Charles street car acsess. Like I said I was traveling alone and never once felt unsafe or treathened. The street car was 3 bucks a day and it took you all over the garden district and the french quarter. I can't say enough good things about Fairchild Bed and Breakfast. The building I stayed in was like a step back in time. I felt like a southernen belle retiring to my room after a long day! The antique furnishing and painting completed this feeling of being alive in a different period of time. The owner was very nice. She was full of helpful advice for planning a great day. The breakfast was great! One morning she cooked eggs and another day a tasty breakfast casarole. Loved this place would highly recommend it!
It was so nice to have you stay with us. It was great to know you got out on your own just to do the things you want! Thanks for the review and look forward to seeing you again.

My husband and I stayed at this B&B with our 3 year old a few weeks ago and had a lovely time. The room was clean, the breakfast was wonderful, and the staff was extra friendly. The location was nice, very close to downtown but yet away from all the noise. We enjoyed walking down St. Charles and taking the trolly into town. We are staying again in a few weeks when we go back to visit. I love southern comfort and you are not going to find that in a major hotel.
We enjoyed having all 3 of you here. I don't think you stopped for a minute. Look forward to seeing you again in a few weeks.

This B&B is located in the American section and is only a 10 minute trolley ride to the French Market area. Good parking and nice rooms. Very quaint and great New Orleans flavor. The daughter and mother are great hostesses.
Thanks for taking the time to review us. We enjoyed having you here and glad you enjoyed the location too.

A great place to stay and in a wonderful part of New Orleans. The hosts were friendly and helpful, all that one would want or expect of one's hosts. Had the use of a kettle for tea which is important to us bonus
It was wonderful having you two stay here with us. Great conversations. Glad to have had the kettle, not everyone drinks coffee!

Needed a place to stay for a couple of days worth of Mardi Gras, and this place had an opening. My first B&B stay, and I am now officially spoiled. Inkeeper was a little preoccupied with being in a MG parade; her relatives stepped up. Her mom cooked me a nice breakfast. The breakfast room was fun to relax in and visit with fellow guests, and hear stories about NOLA and MG. Fenced off-street parking. WiFi. My room draperies needed a clothespin and they brought me a selection.
I am so glad to hear you are spoiled. Hope you will search for more B&B's in the future. Mardi Gras is definitely a big preocupation. I have been riding for years with a few different groups (Krewes), but now am a member of the new Krewe of Nyx. This was our first year riding, and oh boy how people came out to see us. It was amazing!! If you stay with us during Mardi Gras, you will for sure become part of the family. You might even have to watch my daughter! I was wondering what that clothespin was about. I think I figured out the issue. Next year. We ride the Wednesday after Super Bowl!!

The price for Fairchild House is alright, and is what attracted me to it. The room I stayed in was tiny, with a window unit for A/C, and a small, stand-up shower. The location is excellent, being a couple blocks from the St. Charles rail, and also very close to The Avenue Pub, which is one of the top 50 Beer Bars in the world. Additionally, down the street is the Blue Plate, which has amazing shrimp and grits. I am saying this partially because the breakfast hear leaves a bit to be desired. Store-bought bagels and english muffins, cereal, and fruit are the staples, and usually some sort of egg dish. Not bad, but not what I would expect from a B&B. The employees are all very nice, especially the owner and her mother, who will chat you up in the breakfast room. The room is adequately clean, and they'll replace the towels daily. Overall, this was an alright place to stay. I'd stay again.
Glad to know you had a decent stay with us. Just to clarify to all, our breakfast, as stated on our web site is a Continental Plus. This consists of assorted breads (we serve bagels, English muffins, cinnamon/raisin bread & whole wheat bread), coffee cake/muffins, fresh fruit, 2 types of cold cereal, oatmeal, plain yogurt, coffee, assorted teas, milk and OJ. We look forward to hosting you again in the future.

We just checked in & so far so good. It's an old house so nothing's perfect (to the negative reviewers) but overall the rooms are clean w/attention to even the curtains being recently washed. Deluxe king room has 2 twins pushed together which is fine for us but some may not care for it. Bathroom is clean w/the only exception being old/dirty floor tile grout. Room has amenities such as hair dryer & mini fridge. The over all feel brings me back to days of visiting friends who lived in an old Victorian home. This place is a nice change of pace from the hotel chains. As a professional housekeeper when not on vacation, I recommend this B&B to the traveler looming for charm. Friendly staff as well. Very homey & we'd stay again.
Thanks for the review and for the recommendation. I think we can easily fix the grout issue and the curtains. Actually, after putting up the curtains we noticed they were uneven, even thought we purchased them in the same same size. I will put some new ones in so it does not look uneven.

This was my second time staying at the Fairchild House. It's location is ideal as it is in a great, vibrant, safe neighborhood and walking distance to the streetcar line as well as good restaurants, bars and shopping. The staff is courteous, friendly and has great recommendations on where to go and what to do.
Thanks for coming back to stay and for your review. Here I go again, I love this neighborhood!! See you all next time.

The Fairchild House offers Southern Hospitality with a Brazilian flair. We always enjoy our stay here. It is convenient to most of the city with out driving - they are only a block off of the St Charles Street Car. You get the convenience without the noise of St. Charles. We are always made to feel like family instead of customers - This is a wonderful place for a New Orleans getaway and still have access to everything that makes New Orleans what it is famous for.
We enjoy having you all stay here with us. Thanks for letting people know what we are about! See you next time.

I would recommend Fairchild House to anyone who wants an authentic New Orleans stay. It's great because it's out of the mess of the French Quarter, but still in walking distance or a short streetcar ride up to the action. You are also in walking distance of the Garden District and Magazine Street. Beatriz was a great host and the breakfast every morning was great. We really enjoyed having our own private room and spacious bathroom. I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking for an affordable, authentic stay in New Orleans!
Love to hear when guests love their time on Magazine Street. So much to see and do! Thanks for the recommendation.

This was my first time staying at a B&B. I've stayed in all kinds accommodations from five star hotels to bunk beds in hostels and this is my most memorable stay yet. The house is gorgeous, both interior and exterior. You get a key to the gate, building, and room so you're safe and have the freedom to leave and return as you please. Beatriz was an approachable and fun host. She engaged us in conversation over breakfast and gave us sightseeing tips. Breakfast was delicious, especially the lemon cake. Location was right at the street car stop and only two or three stops from the French Quarter. Parking was available on the street right in front, as well as an exclusive parking lot in the back. I can't think of a single point to complain about.

Wonderful hostess who was enthusiastic and genuine in answering questions, making suggestions, and providing information about what to do, how to do it, and where to go in New Orleans. Neighborhood is quiet and the B&B is secure. Our room was simple and adequate. Breakfast had various good choices, self-service, and hostess was responsive to our specific needs/requests.
Thanks for the review on our property. Glad you enjoyed the Lower Garden District too.

The furnishings are suitable to the period, even if not always in the best shape or of the best quality. All is clean and neat. The host is very friendly and accommodating to special request. The location is excellent for access to New Orleans' attractions. The price is below average for a B&B in New Orleans.

If we had stayed in the French Quarter, we probably wouldn't have made it to many points farther uptown in the Garden Distrct. Though this place seems like it's too close to the highway and to the action, it's actually very quiet and tranquil. Beatriz and her family (especially her mother!) were exceedingly welcoming and helpful, displaying expansive knowledge about the area and the local cuisine. This place does not provide itself on a gourmet breakfast, but I knew that going into it. Its value lies far more in its location and wonderful hospitality. Besides, I'd much much much rather eat some beignets from Cafe du Monde or another of the myriad dining establishments. Highly recommended!

What a great find!!! We were a few blocks from best parade viewing spots, had a great breakfast. The B and B was quiet, nicely furnished, safe and we enjoyed our breakfast hostess!! Nothing fancy -- just a couple of really cool OLD houses at the N.E. edge of the Garden District, right near the Warehouse District. 2 blocks to St. Charles streetcar; ~8 block walk to convention center (or $5 cab). Very easy to get to the Quarter via streetcar. The owners are wonderful, and the continental breakfast seals the deal.

The place was very nice! The room had a bit of a draft, but there was heater. The courtyard was beautiful & the parking lot was very convenient. Also, the B&B was reasonably located between Magazine St. & downtown. With a car it's only about 7 minutes. I would definitely stay here again.

The Fairchild House is great value for the money. It is located in a comfortable, interesting Lower Garden District neighborhood in two mid-nineteenth homes, furnished with antiques and eclectic accents. The beds could be softer and the showers roomier and I would appreciate a microwave in the room, but Ms. Rita and the friendly ambience make up for these things.
I am glad mom treated you well. We have a couple of rooms with microwave and usually we have some extras if really needed. Some rooms do have small box showers, it was all we could put in to give each room a private bathroom. Thank you for the review, glad you had a good time.

This is an ideal place to stay if you want to visit both the Garden District and the French Quarter easily. This spot is located one block from the trolly system and a key parade route durin Mardi Gras. There is a place to secure your car if you feel the need. We really enjoyed the company of the owner in the morning as she served us at the breakfast buffet. There is an old world feel to this lovely place we will visit again if we are ever in the area again.
I think you are so right about our location, we are close enough to the Quarter, yet not smack in it. Walking from the Lower Garden District through to the Garden District is such a great activity. So much to see. Thanks for the review and we enjoyed your company too!

My fiance and I came to New Orleans for a friend's 30th birthday kind of last minute and had a hard time booking a stay for a reasonable price. We were so lucky to find the Fairchild House! It was a very unique place to stay, quiet, comfortable, and a fun location. I think the weekend we were there was exceptionally busy as it took on average 45 minutes for us to get to where our friends were staying in the French Quarter via streetcar. But it was worth it. The Fairchild House was a fun place to stay for us 30-somethings and I also plan on taking my mom here in the future.
We were lucky to have you two stay here. Thanks for having a great time and for the review!

The Fairchild house was cute, clean and affordable. Beatriz is a really great innkeeper. My only complaint is that the bed was that the bed was really not very comfortable -- too hard and I could feel the springs. But other than that, I really enjoyed my stay -- especially for the price!

I traveled to New Orleans to spend Halloween in one of the most beautiful cities on earth. I had excellent service while staying at the fairchild, any concern or question was immediately answered, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

This is a great place to stay for the price. Its located between downtown and the garden district. We chose to bring our bikes and ride around town and this location was an easy ride to the French Quarter in one direction and the Garden District in the other. My only complaint is the lack of signage out front. It took a few minutes to find it, even though the web sites directions were great.
What a beautiful weekend it was to ride your bikes! Happy to know you both enjoyed your time in the city and at the Fairchild House. We decided 20 years ago not to put a sign outside, there is a very small plaque on the gate. So be sure to look for the number on the house when looking for us. Thanks for taking the time to post a review.

The place was nice, comfortable, and beautiful. and on the whole, we would recommend it, even though the room we were in was not the one we had requested (and were told we could have) when we made our reservations. We can not comment on the Breakfast portion of the stay, as we only stayed one night and had to leave prior to breakfast being served the next morning. I will also warn about the New Orleans cab companies, though we do not hold this against the Fairchild or its Innkeepers. When we checked in, we arranged with the innkeeper to have a cab scheduled to pick us up at 6:15 the next morning. We were at the street at 6:00 am, only to be stood up by the cab company (unfortunately, I do not know which one, as we did not overhear which one was called). At 6:20, we realized that the cab was not coming, and had to walk the 11 blocks to the Amtrak station dragging our luggage behind us in the humid, oppressive Louisiana July heat.
I read this review when you first put it up and got in touch with the cab company. The company told me the reservation was booked for 5:15 am. I will say they are a reliable company and we obviously had a misscommunication. I know walking fast in the summer is no fun. Regarding the room, you booked a Standard Double and I upgrade you to a Superior Queen. I had a room with a queen and thought you would prefer a larger room. My mistake for not asking. I am glad you did enjoy your short stay with us and thank you for posting a review.

I would recommend the Fairchild to anyone looking for a change from the everyday hotel chains. Yes, there are quirks, but they are just that, quirks. Quiet location, easy access to the green line (St. Charles line), and near-by food & drug store. I enjoyed my stay in New Orleans and a big part of that was due to the charm of the Fairchild. I would stay there again.

While the house is old and the rooms are in need of updating, our stay was wonderful. The location is superb! A block from the streetcar and close enough to walk pretty much anywhere makes it an ideal location that is close to the action but far enough away for peace and quiet. Breakfast was simple but good. The hosts were nice and were full of great recommendations.

My wife and I along with a couple of friends recently had a stay at the Fairchild. The staff was very warm and accommodating. This was our first experience with a B&B and we absolutely loved it. The neighborhood was so rich and historic. We love how life just seems to slow down in the Garden district and it is a completely different pace than down town New Orleans. My wife and I were on our way home and still laughing from our coversation with Rita, by the way we managed to leave that book in the back of our friends car!
Sorry to hear you lost your book..I guess someone has new reading material now! It was so nice to have all of you stay here and really take in New Orleans. Just a note....we are in the Lower Garden District.

This is not your high dollar bed and breakfast, but you get more than you pay for. The owners and staff are friendly, everything is kept clean, you can sit out on the font porch and listen to the water trickling into a large fountain. A small refrigerator in the room (which worked out great since the New Orleans heat sometimes quelled my appetite when dining out). I did not think much of the room having a window unit A/C until I had been out in the New Orleans heat and came into my cool, cool room! Heaven! The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was a pleasant affair. My only complaint was that although there was an antique desk in the room, it was locked so I had no where to set up my laptop to work. Other rooms may have desks, just ask. I very much enjoyed my stay!
We checked out the desk and not sure how it got locked. All better now! I am glad that did not spoil your stay. Those ac units are indispensable here in the summer! Thanks for the review.

My wife and I very much enjoyed our stay at Fairchild House, located in the gorgeous Garden District, conveniently adjacent to the bustling Central Business District and one block from a St. Charles Avenue streetcar stop. Beatriz is a warm and welcoming host, and her extensive knowledge of the city enhanced our visit. Our bedroom and bathroom were clean and comfortable, our breakfasts fresh and delicious. The low cost of our stay allowed us to fit more food and fun into our budget. Highly recommended!

I recently stayed 3 nights at the Fairchild House Bed & Breakfast. I was looking for a good value and this B&B provided this as well as wonderful hospitality and attentiveness in a safe, secure setting. Although my room was not fancy in decor, it was very clean and comfortable. The St. Charles Trolley is one block away and I used it for all my trips to the downtown and French Quarter areas. This lodging experience was very good and I recommend the Fairchild to those who are looking for a unique lodging experience.

Thanks for taking the time to review the Fairchild House B&B. Ther streetcar is a great and inexpensive way to get uptown and downtown. Glad to know you had a good time.

I had stayed at the Fairchild House previously and was very pleased. This stay was wonderful as well. For the price, quality, and convenience this place can't be beat!! Would definitely stay hear again (and again).
Thanks for the the great review. We love having you here too. Look forward to another visit in the future.

This is a great family run B&B in a great location one block from the St. Charles Ave Street car. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. We had a great stay here and will be coming back next time we are in NOLA. I highly recommend it.
Thank you for the review on Fairchild House. We are happy to know you enjoyed your stay with us and in New Orleans. Look forward to seeing you again in the future!

Stayed here for a couple of nights, excellent location close to the tram and St Charles Street dining, would definitely come back if in New Orleans again. The secure parking was a big plus for us, as we were traveling with a motorcycle and trailer and leaving it in the street was not going to work.
You know how much we love that streetcar being just a block away from the B&B. It gets you places and what a beautiful ride. Thanks for taking the time to review our property.

My wife and I were in New Orleans for our honeymoon. This was our second time visiting the city. We wanted to try something different for the first time so we tried out our first B&B. We were met by a gentleman who was very polite and helpful and provided us with a key to our room. The room was cozy and looked like the picture on the web site (queen delux). The only downfall to the room was the bed. Unfortunately, the matress was very hard and had very little give to it. It was difficult for my wife and I to get comfortable, especially since she is 6 months pregnant. She used multiple pillows to get comfortable but was unsuccessful with getting a good nights rest. The location was very convenient and had easy access to the trolly line as well as to a drug store and food vendors. For breakfast, there was a really nice area to have cereal, breads, and fresh fruit. Beatriz was very nice and helpful with any questions that we had. I would definately like to do a B&B again but will probably seek out another place to try out next time. ~Coopers~ Cin, OH
I am glad to know you enjoyed the location and the breakfast. The deluxe queen is a favorite room, but I guess not for eveyone. Be sure to talk to your innkeeper wherever you stay about changing rooms or any problems. We are here to guide you in places to see and eat and be confortable too.

Really lovely place to stay! Beatrice is a fantastic host and loads of fun to talk with, and we very much enjoyed the several days we spent in New Orleans in April 2011 at Fairchild House. Fantastic location, close to Magazine Street and the Charles Street trolley. Pretty easy walking distance to the French Quarter as well. Our favorite evening was sitting on our beautiful balcony of our room overlooking Prytania Street drinking wine and eating cheese and salami bought at a nearby deli. Very relaxing and would highly recommend Fairchild House. Breakfast is self-serve but MORE than ample and satisfactory. We will definitely return!
Nothing like sitting outside when the weather is nice in NOLA! I enjoyed talking to you too. Look forward to a future visit and thanks for staying with us.

We had a great experience at Fairchild House Bed and Breakfast. The rooms were quaint. The breakfast was satisfying. The service was super. The value amazing. It was a fair walk to the downtown but the trolley is so close, there wasn't a problem. Stayed a week and had a great time. Would stay here again. Tim and Ruth Krueger
Between your convention and enjoying the city we hardly saw you two. Glad to know al was good. Thanks for the review.

Our room was NOTHING like the rooms shown on the website! Very plain & basic. I was shocked when we entered our room especially since we were there for a special occasion! Bed was VERY uncomfortable. The bed was so bad that we were ready to check out on day 3! You only get 1 flat pillow each. No closet and the armour was so bad there was no way I would try & hang anything in it. Dresser was ok but we basically lived out of our suitcases on the floor. Only had 1 tiny bar of soap for the sink & shower initially. It's soap--come on!!!! No coffee pot in our room as advertised. TV was a joke! Only had 13 channels. Gardens need a lot of help! I've stayed at B&Bs all over the world & this was the worst I've ever stayed in. Nothing special--not even close! No basic common area to hang out in except the breakfast room. On a positive note: Air conditioner was awesome! Only had breakfast there twice and it was very good! Only problem is it's only from 8:30-9:30am so if you book a tour early forget it! Beatrice was wonderful!

Our entire experience at the Fairchild House was pleasant, and the whole staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful. Since it was the center stop of a long trip, it was great to find a laundromat just a couple of blocks away and to have access to an iron and ironing board. Our car stayed safe in the locked lot, and proximity to the St. Charles Avenue streetcar made it easy to get around.

The Fairchild House Bed and Breakfast exceeded my expectations! The location was absolutely perfect. In a quiet part of NOLA but easy access to the trolley car and if you don't feel like going too far for a meal there is FANTASTIC dining in walking distance. The service was great and the rooms were very clean. I recommend the Fairchild B&B and will certainly be back!

This was a great place to stay! The location was incredible, a very quick cable-car ride into the city if you want it, but most days we just walked to the downtown and to the French Quarter. The staff was great, they were always there when we needed them and had great advice on where to go, what to do, and of course what to eat! It was a beautiful stay with a nice outdoors space, great food and service, and a perfect location for an amazing price! I will definitely return ps - its a very quick walk to VooDoo BBQ from here, making its location even better!
Glad to know you enjoyed your stay and our location. I love VooDoo too! Thanks for taking the time to review the Fairchild House.

This location was good as it was quiet, and one block up you could hop on the trolley to get to get about. Emeril's Del Monico Resturant is excellent and only a few blocks where you can go dressed up but prices are not outrageous. Our room at the B & B was not very fancy ( ps--no hair dryer or ironing board) but it is an old place. Breakfasts were wonderful and very friendly.
I am happy you enjoyed your stay. We do provide irons, ironing boards for guest use. I also have hair dryers in most of the rooms and some that float around the smaller rooms.

This was our first trip to New Orleans. The city was so crowded, noisy, and busy that we felt like we were in NYC. Fairchild House was a GREAT place to come back to in the evenings when we needed some peace & quiet. Although it's in a quieter part of town, it's still within quick & easy access by FOOT to the French Quarter & Canal Street. It's only about a 5-minute walk to the trolley, but we ended up walking all the way to the French Quarter (the trolley was filled up), and that was only about a 30-minute leisurely walk. This place is very safe & secure with a locked gate & locked parking area. Highly recommended!!
Thats Spring in the city. Eveyorne wants to be here when the weather is nice...come back in August!! The Streetcar is just a block away, however suring such a busy time it fills up quickly. Sometimes it is easier to walk that mile to the Quarter. Thanks for the review.
3.8 on April 21, 2011
The location was perfect for walking as well as for the St Charles street car. Beatrice is a lovely hostess with intereting stories about the area, and was willing to accommodate our odd schedule and personal needs. We were close enough to walk to the French Quarter, but we were pleasantly surprised at the very good local restaurants only a block or two away. Be sure to try Mia's. And take the street car to the end of the line for a wonderful view of the Garden District. Yes, we will seek out Fairchild House when we make a return visit to New Orleans.
Thanks for the review. It was a pleasure having you and working on the odd schedule. Look forward to a future trip.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Fairchild house, though it should be noted that I am definitely low maintenance. The room had everything I needed, but I know most people like having a TV. It was very simple, but had loads of character and was quite clean. I think a TV could have been made available, but I wasn't interested. It's located in a great part of town... just on the edge of the Garden District. My morning runs were beautiful. It is also just one block from the trolley, which goes to the Universities or to the French Quarter. I really liked that it was a bit set apart from the ultra-busy city center. ONe of the best parts of my stay was having a long chat over breakfast with the bell hop! Great character and charm, and the price is right for the more frugal, simple travelers. I walked to the Convention Center every morning for a conference, and passed a couple of great cafes on the way.
Thanks for the review. Brad enjoyed talking to you too. All rooms have a tv. I think the one in your room had passed away and I forgot to put a new one in there. Problem had been fixed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Fairchild House. Beatrice was extremely accommodating, friendly and a joy to talk to. On the morning we had an early tour she opened for breakfast early to accommodate us. Our King bed room was large and gave us plenty of room to move around easily. The morning continental breakfast was good and had a nice variety of choices. The outside patio was a nice place to sit and relax in the morning or after a long sightseeing day. The location was excellent, one block to St. Charles street car or within a nice long walking distance to the French Quarter. There were many nice restaurants in close proximity of The Fairchild House. We would highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone.
Thanks for the review. You don't want to go on a swamp tour that early without food! It was great having you stay with us! Thanks.

Everything about Fairchild House exceeded my expectations. The room was charming. The bathroom was clean and had updated fixtures; the air conditioner was a new Friedrich. The free, locked parking was an unexpected bonus. The breakfast was lovely, as was the room it was served in. On a festival weekend when downtown hotels were charging hundreds of dollars a night, I had my own private (and very quiet) oasis a short block from the St. Charles Streetcar for $79 a night. I can't recommend the Fairchild House highly enough, and will definitely stay again.
We loved having you here too! French Quarter Fest sure was a fun weekend. We offer rates ranging from $79-$149. Thanks for taking the time to review us. Hope to see you again

We were looking quite a while for a reasonable stay in New Orleans - which was more difficult than we thought it would be. Finally, we found the Fairchild House - which turned out to be very good luck for us. We recommend this Bed & Breakfast to anyone. The room was clean and quite, and the innkeeper very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, we had to leave very early and cannot comment on the breakfast therefore.
It was a quick trip for you! We enjoyed meeting you both. Hopefully you can have Breakfast the next time around. Thanks for taking the time to review the B&B.

My boyfriend and I were planning our trip to NOLA when we decided to stay at a B & B instead of a regular hotel. After careful consideration and reading rave reviews, we picked Fairchild House. We were pleased with our stay! Very safe parking area, quiet house, nice bedroom and bath combo and very friendly and helpful staff. It was a little farther from where we had meant to be, but chalk that up to inexperience in traveling. Overall, it was very nice and would stay again.
Thanks for the review. I was happy to read you enjoyed your first B&B stay..hope you have many more in your future!

We loved our stay at The Fairchild House. The room, the bed and the bath were all comfortable, clean, well appointed, and ample. We had booked a double bed room but since the king was available, the owner, gave us an upgrade for which we were really appreciative. We loved the frig in our room and the big bath tub with lots of hot water. Beatriz, the owner, was friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming, and her breakfasts of fresh breads, fruit, juice tea and coffee, and cold cereal with milk was hearty and served us well. She even stored my gluten free bread in her frig so that I could make my own toast and offered to provide breakfast for us early on the day we flew home and had to be at the airport at 7:30 am. The Fairchild House is located in the lower Garden District fairly close to downtown (within walking distance) and only one block from the St. Charles St. trolley. We got a 3 day trolley pass that served us well. We walked to the Lafayette Cemetery and found good restaurants, (Voodoo BarBQue) close to the B&B and lots more in the Garden District. It isn't the ritziest part of town but we never felt unsafe walking home from the trolley. We'll definitely stay here when we go back. We loved everything about it. Even a 24 hour Walgreens on St. Charles nearby. Gotta love it.
Gotta love those 24hr establishments! You two did it all and made great use of those streetcar passes. We loved having you here. Thanks for the review and we look forward to seeing you again.

A great place to stay in the garden district very close to the quarter. quiet and clean. Beatrize is great. Nice little patio area in back with towering plants all around. private gated parking if needed. charming breakfast hall next to the B&B.

I spent five days in room 5, which is one of the smaller rooms overlooking the side road. I was attending a conference at the convention centre, which is around a 20 minute walk. The St Charles tram is very nearby. The room is small but ok for one person, and very quiet. Unlike more expensive hotels, they do not charge for wifi which worked well in the sitting areas, which are also very nice, but was a bit low powered in the room itself. Breakfast is good, and the owners are welcoming and very helpful. They are fans of the UK comedy series Fawlty Towers, but you'd never guess, maybe it helps them channel any frustrations they have with tricky guests!
Thanks for taking the time to review the Fairchild House. We enjoyed you too. I will see what I can do about the WIFI in the rooms. Love that Fawlty Towers!

Fairchild House, one block from St. Charles Street. One block from the Streetcar line. Five dollars, and you can ride all day. Up-town and down-town. Catch a short nap at Fairchild House and off again. The French Quarter is ten minutes by streetcar. Dine at quaint cafes, walk to the water front, photograph the horse-drawn buggies, paddlewheelers, monuments and people.
Love our location. Easy to get to the Uptown and to the Quarter. I hope you were able to get more than a nap! Thanks for the review.

Nice property, very reasonable in price, very easy to get to Garden District sites and French Quarter by street car or by walking. Great deep claw foot tub in our room. Very thin walls, could hear everything, but this is to be expected given the age of the building. Not a problem at night though, all was very quiet. Lots of healthy options for breakfast.
Love that tub.....but there is only one! Happy to know you enjoyed your stay and the Lower Garden District proximity to other neighborhoods! Thanks for the review.

The Fairchild House (really 2 adjacent buildings) is a historically untampered-with set of buildings that have good access to the Garden District of New Orleans and is run by some exceptionally friendly folks who really bent over backwards to accomodate my erratic schedule. It is a very good value for a city that justifiably has rather high prices for its rooms, as long as one does not expect that last word in glitzy restoration. For that one would pay twice as much. My wife and I were quite pleased.
Erractic schedule? What erractic schedule? Happy we could make it all happen the right way for you both. Thanks for taking the time to review Fairchild House.

Charming room, gracious host, prime location, excellent value. All combined for a lovely weekend in NOLA. Prytania Street was busy, but quieted at night. The parking lot gate was tight on the exit when street parking was full. But over all, wonderful.
Thanks for the review. Happy to know you had a good weekend in New Orleans and enjoyed your accommodations. We will keep working with neighbors to not park so close to our lot exit.

My wife and I stayed in late January and really enjoyed the Fairchild. Beatriz was very friendly and helpful with our questions about things to see and do in New Orleans. Breakfast was good with an assortment of fruit, muffins, bagels, cereal, and a home-made egg dish. Good coffee, too. We really liked the house. It was fairly cold for New Orleans during our stay (lows in the low 30's), but the window unit did a nice job of keeping us warm. We stayed in room 15 and had a nice private bath with a coffee maker, fridge, and small TV. The house itself was very nice with its 14-foot ceilings and cypress-wood flooring. We parked our car in the Fairchild's 3-car private parking lot and never used it at all during our stay. The location is great because it's one block off St Charles (and the streetcars) and 8 blocks from the WW II Museum. We rode the streetcars to Bourbon St, Algiers ferry, Tulane, Carrollton, and the Metairie cemetery. Overall, it was a very fun and affordable trip. We will definitely check availability at Fairchild on our next trip.
I love that you visited so many neighborhoods and used the streetcars. Great way to see the city! I am happy to know you enjoyed the city and staying with us. By the way, I can get up to 8 cars between our 2 parking areas. Thanks for taking the time to review our property. Hope to see you again.

Beatrice and Rita are lovely hosts at this quaint B&B with a perfect location. Free secure parking and one block from the Saint Charles streetcar which runs every 15 minutes all day and 24/7 so park your car and explore New Orleans. We were upgraded to a queen room which was a pleasant surprise. Soft fluffy towels, clean bathroom, OK bed and pillows. Great neigborhood for walking and exploring.
Thanks for the review. Thanks also for pointing out we are in the Lower Garden Distric. We also enjoyed having you here. Will check into those pillows and bed.

In New Orleans for a conference, I wanted to avoid the chain hotel and see some of the city. The nearby street car made it easy to get around (but timing was inconsistent). The house was impressive in architecture and interesting to be inside. It reminded me of the apartments in old houses that I rented in my 20s....character with a lot of coats of old paint and some quirky layouts and adjustments. I would not return for a romantic weekend, but would consider as a relatively lower cost space from which to view the city. I did not eat the breakfast and cannot comment on this. I only saw the inn keeper when I arrived. She was pleasant.
Thank you for the review. Happy to know we have character. I am not clear on what you mean by "some quirky layouts and adjustments". The room you stayed in does not strike me as having any unusual layout. There is a patch of paint by the bed where we had a leak and it needs to be repainted. It seems I dropped the ball on that. I believe the closet should also be repainted on the inside, however I we do not have lots of coats of old paint. As far as not returning for a romantic weekend I can not agree with you either. I know we have hosted numerous guests in 19 years who have made their stay romantic.

A search engine I used told me that the Fairchild House was located within the Garden District which is where we wanted to stay. It is not. I inquired upon check-in if this was the Garden District and was told it is "considered the lower Garden District." That said, it did not spoil our visit and the Fairchild House represents a very good value for the money. It is 2 short blocks from the St. Charles streetcar which took us everywhere we wanted to go--including the Garden District. We would stay there again; comfortable clean rooms, secured parking, a nice breakfast each morning and both Beatriz and Rita were so very helpful and friendly. Thank you! Gary & Patrice

A friend and I decided to go to New Orleans for Halloween weekend. I feel like I looked at a hundred hotels (most of them in the French Quarter) and they were either too expensive or had bad reviews. Trying to think of other options, I started looking into B&Bs, which is how I found the Fairchild House. Reasonably priced and good reviews. Although it was not in the French Quarter like I had hoped for, it was close enough (we were able to walk there and take a cheap cab back). Beatriz was very friendly and helpful. It was our first time in New Orleans and she had some great tips on places to go while we were there. Overall we had a great experience staying at the Fairchild House!
Thanks for the review. Happy you both had a great Halloween Weekend. It was a beautiful weekend!

We had an excellent stay. The owner was wonderful and a wealth of information. The B&B is located close to downtown and the riverwalk and we were able to walk everywhere. This is not a typical B&B in that it did not have a parlor for guests to congregate. Guests did get together at breakfast which is basically a continental one (laws do not allow them to serve a fully cooked breakfast).
Thank you for the review. We appreciate guests taking time to write about their stay at Fairchild House.

We haven't dined there, so I don't really have an opinion for that. We love the location. We have stayed there several times over the years and always want to go back. It's close to the trolly which makes for easy maneuvering day and night. The rooms are comfortable and parking is provided in an enclosed area, which is good. It is difficult getting your vehicle in and out, but we still feel safer leaving the vehicle inside the compound. It is quiet and we like that. The grounds are lovely. As I saw, we always seem to choose to go back there!
Thank you for the review. We love to know guests take full advantage of the Streetcar on St. Charles. Sometimes the parking lot can get quite full and we have to move cars around. We are happy to move cars to accommodate all guests.

We stayed here for a week in December 2007. If you want bell boys, front desk etc then this isn't for you. But if what you want is quiet, antique furniture, varnished floors, a very convenient location, & really helpful hosts - & at a very reasonable rate - then this is where you should stay
