Hughes House Bed and Breakfast

We really enjoyed our stay at Hughes House Bed and Breakfast. We arrived & were welcomed with a smile by the owner Ms. Lee. After a quick check in, she recommended several restaurants near by & we were off to a wonderful meal after a long days drive. Later that night we sat on the gigantic wrap around porch and enjoyed ourselves. Our room was very quiet & comfortable thanks to a king sized bed. Our room was big & had a private bath along with cable & internet. Breakfasts were outstanding and Lee made sure we weren't allergic to anything or had particular like/dislikes. She was a perfect host - we can't wait to go back & stay longer; try more of the local Louisiana cuisine at the restaurants in the area. They rate here with 5 stars - Hughes House B&B gets 10 stars in my book !

This place is not a home run but a grand slam. From the very moment you are greeted by the owner, "let me get you something to drink" till you drive away (with sadness at leaving, because it is a great fondness that you will have for this remarkable home and innkeeper), you are rewarded with a truly delightful B&B experience.

I haven't stayed at many B&B because I want to know what to expect up front. This B&B which was highly recommended exceeded all my expectations. The room, private bathroom and house was perfect. I seriously felt at home and am sure I was in Ms Lee's way while all the guests collected in the kitchen to watch breakfast preparation. The breakfast was phenomenal. The company was extraordinary. Ms Lee was exceptional! The location was near everything. The price was very reasonable. All my future stays in Hammond will be there. This is the first time I have ever rated anything - you won't be disappointed!

This was our first time visiting a bed & breakfast and we were a little nervous not knowing what to expect. However all fears instantly vanished when we were greeted by Ms. Lee. The hospitality was wonderful and the room was breathtaking. We even had an unexpected visit by Rocky the cat, which made us feel right at home. Would definetely recommend staying at this property and we will make it a point to come back!

I've stay at many B&B's all around the country and in Europe and this is one of my all time favorites. It's elegant yet down home in feeling. Lee, the owner made us feel right at home and recommended nearby restaurants for dinner that were wonderful. Our room called the "Ruby" was huge with a private bath & seating area along with cable TV and wireless internet. It was too cold to try the pool but we want to come back in the summer to swim & enjoy the large garden area. This was the most restful stay we've had in a long time.

Ms. Lee and Tribble (her dog) were very welcoming and accommodating. My wife and I stayed for two nights in late October 2012. Within the house there is so much to look at without being over done, lots of history. Ms. Lee prepares a wonderful Southern breakfast along with interesting conversation. I love this B & B and would highly recommend it.

We enjoyed the large and very comfortable bed, sumptuous breakfast and great ambience. Our B&B host was warm & welcoming.

Property s beautifully manicured and quietly nests in downtown Hammond -- conveniently situated. Proprietress is a gourmet cook. Wonderful gourmet breakfast. Room was comfortable and cozy. Private bath was very nice -- roomy clawfoot tub. Wish we could have stayed a day longer. A good couples' get away for a long weekend.

From the first moment, it was special. I was greeted after midnight for check-in; had a gorgeous room, delicious meals and lived in a spacious garden wonderland with a pool. It was fabulous!

Very nice, very comfortable. Beautiful little town with a lot going on and within 30-40 min of New Orleans & Baton Rouge.

I stayed here and had a wonderful time. With a need to de-stress, the large pool and sitting on the porch with some ice tea was just what I needed. Extremely comfortable rooms and a great breakfast ......I wish I could have stayed a week ! Next time I will. Great restaurants & cafes are close by - also it's close to the university.

I stayed here for the weekend and had a wonderful, restful time. A huge swimming pool plus wrap around porch for sitting and lush gardens made for a great time. Breakfast was bountiful and good strong Louisiana coffee made my day start off right ! Highly recommended !

This was our second stay. Both the home and the proprietor are charming and comfortable. Breakfast is fabulous. Ms. Collins attention to detail is remarkable. The home is magnificent, but what I like most is getting up early and making coffee (it is set up to brew already) and sitting on the front or side port to take in the sights, sounds and smells of a genuine small town.

Beautiful old home with lovely large yard for exploration. Lee's breakfast was fantastic. She is very friendly and accommodating. We were driving south, not sure where we'd stop for the night before hand and were able to make a reservation the day we wanted to spend the night. We'd stay again if we pass through town.

One of the best B & B's I've stayed at ! The breakfast was fantastic and Ms. Lee is a charming host that goes that extra step to help her guests have a great time. She had some good recommendations for restaurants & sight seeing near by. Out of 40 or more B & B's where I've stayed, this would be #1

Ms. Lee was wonderful to me and my husband. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was to die for! The pup was a sweety, but I don't think the cat liked us (oh, well). We were taken care of and enjoyed staying there.

My friends and I had a wonderful stay. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable. We enjoyed the lovely breakfasts, relaxed on the porch, walked the grounds, and simply floated around in the pool. It was a great stay. Lee was the perfect hostess.

We had a great time, although we had a lot going on and were not able to fully enjoy the B&B. Lee was very nice nad gave us a lot of information.

My husband and I stayed there for a weekend get-away. We were greeted on the spacious wrap-around porch with a glass of wine and a cup of tea. Our bags were whisked away and we were able to enjoy the porch and the quaint neighborhood. The beds are very comfortable so our nights were restful. The breakfast is probably better than everyone is raving about - there just aren't enough superlatives to describe the breakfast, the house, the pets, and the lovely hostess. Lee is truly a gem!

Peaceful retreat. Delicious variety of full hot breakfasts mornings we were there. Wonderful hospitality. Ms. Lea is a jewel. Lovely antiques throughout.

My husband and I stayed at the Hughs House for 5 days. We can't find enough words to say how much we enjoyed the visit. Lee the owner treated us like kings and queens. The food, was such a delight. At the Hughes House, you have the true spirit of B&B! It includes a house that's decorated with original beautiful handcrafted furniture, antique paintings, and sofa and chairs from around the world. Celebrated our 1st anniversary there. Great place!

A friendly host, a comfortable room, an interesting house, and a delicious breakfast- I'm not sure what else we could have asked for, but I get the feeling Lee would have delivered it as well!

Hughes House is very quaint. Ms. Lee is a delightful hostess- her gourmet breakfast was delicious and friendly. It was like visiting with a friend. I loved being able to walk to the square in town.

This Queen Ann house looks much larger in person, and is filled with lovely antiques. Our scrupulously clean room featured a very comfortable four-posted bed with plenty of pillows (one of my pet peeves at chain hotels). Mrs. Collins served us a scrumptious breakfast the next morning (blueberry pancakes, eggs, bacon, fruit plate, orange juice, tea and coffee) on beautiful china and silver - and was a lively and intelligent conversationalist, too. I have to confess - my favorite part was her pets. I have slept with cats since I was nine years old, and always miss them when traveling. I invited Rocky the cat into our room, and to my delight, he slept with us all night. (Now that’s what I call a full service inn)

What a beautiful home! Lee makes you feel at home with 1 clean, spacious room and bath. Lots of extra touches add tot he experience. Will return!

My wife and I spent our wedding night at Hughes House and we were very pleased. We had plenty of privacy, a very nice room, and felt like Mrs. Lea was family!

The house was beautiful and well kept. Mrs. Lee was more than helpful. From the moment we arrived to breakfast, to lounging on the porch- we loved it and were very relaxed!

We had a great time! When we were called to a funeral, Lee prepared a delicious "to go" breakfast! The accommodations were lovely & comfortable. The owner was very gracious, providing us with information about the area that was very helpful. We hope to go again soon -

My favorite home away from home. The Hughes House is the perfect mix of elegance and southern hospitality. The house is full of beautiful décor plus the grounds have a delightful garden and saltwater pool . Mrs. Lee prepares the most delicious breakfast. I have stayed at the Huges House six times now and have never had the same breakfast twice. This is the place to stay anytime you need a personal retreat. I recommend it highly to everyone.

Lovely house in a great location to service both Baton Rouge and New Orleans. As a couple traveling with a five month old we were greeted by our hostess Lee with open arms and a handcrafted cradle prepared in out room. Enjoyed the grounds and Lee very much.

Ms. Colins was a great hostess and our room as well as the property was absolutely beautiful. The food was yummy too!

I found Hughes House to be a grand home nicely appointed with period furniture and collectibles. The propietress, Mrs. Collins creates a friendly and inviting atmosphere and her homemade breakfast was delicious. My room was large, and comfortable and quiet. I will definately return to this charming B&B.

Hammond is a charming place and the owner of Hughes B&Bis a very welcoming, open, family-friendly lady. Plantation breakfast was like "coming home to mom on Sunday." Lovely! Rooms are authentic and antique. Beautiful! We'll go back.

Our family really enjoyed our weekend at Hughes House. Lee is the perfect hostess, and made some of the best blueberry pancakes I've ever eaten! The house is beautifully funrnished and decorated with antiques, and Lee's tour is both enjoyable and educational. The gardens are nicely landscaped and offer an enjoyable little diversion before taking a dip in the well-screened pool. Hammond itself is a wonderful little town to visit, quiter than its larger neighboring cities, but with a lively nightlife of its own. Hughes House is within walking distance of many of Hammonds excellent resturants, the art museum, theater, and a lovely assortment of specialty shops and boutiques. I would recommend a trip to Hughes House for anyone looking for a wonderful vacation destination.

When I pulled into the driveway, I was amazed that this B&B was a home I'd visited often while growing up. It was so nice to see it so lovingly restored. An extra benefit at this B&B is the extended family (one cat and two dogs) who greet you as warmly as the owners do. You know you are family when Rocky meets you at the door with a request for a snack! Great place to stay and in walking distance form the art and night life in Hammond. Well worth the price of admission. Thanks Lee.

I felt like one of the family living in the original house! Lee is a very gracious host and an incredible cook. Lots of stories to listen to! Very enjoyable.

Clean and quaint with wonderful service. Hammond is the perfect place for a slow restful weekend with good local restaurants and the nice SLU campus. Lee cooked the best southern style breakfast ever. You go Lee!

Wlaking distance to the downtown Hammond CBD. Many "local" attractions normally overlooked by many. Great porch, interesting furnishings and delightful hostess.
