Glenfield Plantation is a picturesque cottage-villa in the midst of wild landscape and the home of Marjorie F. Meng, fourth generation. On the National Register of Historic Places, this brick English Gothic is from a period around 1845, & parts of the house are thought to have been constructed around 1812. There is an air of substantial comfort in the house with its double halls & galleries in front & back, features which realize the idea of simplicity and breadth. The back porches enclosed with hand-hewn blinds are also used for a summer dining room. Each bedroom has a private bath, fireplace & antiques throughout. Historic artifacts say much about the house, including a charred spinning wheel saved from a house set afire by the Indians or the bullet hole in the right front door from the Civil War. Medals & buttons have even been found in the backyard, bearing evidence of this fact! Glenfield Plantation offers a continental or full Southern breakfast for guests with all the trimmings. Biking and hiking are not far. Nearby, visitors can pass the time with tennis, golf or swimming. March and October bring the Antebellum Tour of Homes, but most homes are open year round.
