Spruce Lodge was built in the early 1900's. We are guessing around 1910. It was purchased by my grandparents in 1949. My grandfather traveled a lot for his job and my grandmother stayed in Lake Placid and ran Spruce Lodge as a tourist home where breakfast was not an option. We have over an acre and a half of property which borders a large pond at the back of the property. We think the main house resembles a large farmhouse which has a porch that stretches across the front of the building. Since I purchased the property in 1986, I have tried not to change too much from when my grandparents owned it. I have found that changes were necessary to keep up with the times. Most people describe my place as being cozy and homelike. I have updated the rooms so they all have private baths and a couple have queen sized beds. The rest have double beds. The Cottage, I rent out as one unit. It can sleep 6 people The Cottage was probably built at the same time as the main house. I understand that at one time, it was the workshop for the main house. I have done quite a bit of decorating in the Cottage. There are two bedrooms (one with a queen bed and the other with a queen bed plus a set of bunk beds) and a bath upstairs. Downstairs there is a livingroom with a fireplace, fully equipped kitchen and dining room. We are located inside Lake Placid, close to all area activities.
