No matter how long we stay, it is never long enough So say our Cape Cod guests who have come twice yearly for nearly a decade. A Storybook Inn is located on acreage in the historic district of quaint, historic Versailles, but in walking distance to shops and restaurants. (15 minutes from Lexington, close to artsy shops of Midway.) It is so refreshing to find an award winning historic Inn that is fantastically restored and unequivocally gorgeous but at the same time, not pretentious. We use as many local, organic ingredients as possible. Wonderful afternoon snacks. We have a staff that is ready, willing and able to assist you to make your stay more enjoyable. We can assist you with horse farm tours (please call ahead), dinner reservations, and en-suite massages by a professional Massage Therapist (by appointment). Our guest rooms and suite are very tastefully designed after Classic movies and scrupulously clean enough for the most persnickety germaphobe. The Inn is designed to be a delight to the senses with original oil paintings, tasteful furnishings and antiques but sensitive to travelers needs such as free wireless. You will see why our guests regularly tell us things like this recent review: After traveling extensively here in the US and abroad, staying in both small inns as well as top rated hotels, I would rate A Storybook Inn as the best small Inn or Bed and Breakfast I have encountered. The proprietor, Elise Buckley and her staff's level of service and attention to detail is phenomenal and leads to an exceptional experience. From the first class touches of home in the well-appointed rooms to the beautiful setting and grounds of the Inn to the delicious breakfasts served in the garden room this is The place to stay in Blue Grass Country.
As guests step into this suite, there is a gasp because of the obvious beauty and space in this suite. There is a richness of color and beauty of the sitting room and the "lantern glow" gold of the bedroom. The carpet, rugs, original oil paintings, [one of Vivian Leigh as Scarlett], the luxury bedding, the great views, and SPACE, and the large two person shower in the new bathroom, the walk-in closet with frig, wooden hangers, and thick bathrobes, antique desk, chinz sofa, LUXURY, LUXURY, LUXURY without being fussy. A room that men or women are equally as comfortable in. Rave reviews!
Casablanca has newly restored hardwood floors, oriental rugs, antique Chesterfield sofa, leather chair and ottoman, carved sleigh bed and large armoire, build in cabinetry, walk in closet with mini-frig, [all guest rooms do] thick robes monogrammed with Storybook, [all do] large antique writing desk. Custom drapes throughout. Italian leather sofa and matching large roomy easy chairs. 3.5 bedrooms. 3.5 baths. Office. Wireless Internet free. Laundry room, 1st master with large walk-in closet, separate shower and lovely air whirlpool tub. Upstairs the views are wonderful and the bedrooms spacious, the professional decor lovely. Breakfast can still be enjoyed at the main house. Very private - ideal for honeymooners, anniversaries, families, those Keeneland bound, or for individuals who just want to get away from it all! You will not want to leave!
Somewhere In Time is our largest and most luxurious suite. It was the original owner's suite of this grand old house. HUGE is a word that comes to mind. Elegant is another descriptor. Fitting for the mood and feel of this elegant suite, Somewhere In Time has its own private hallway to get to the entrance of this secluded suite in the main house. During the renovation process, we often referred to it our Bridal suite or Presidential suite. And for very good reason! 19-foot long sitting room with original, restored hardwood floor, custom outfitted day bed, custom chairs, writing desk.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the pristine and pastoral Storybook Inn. We were looking for someplace relatively close to home but that felt like it was another world from our urban life. Versailles and The Storybook Inn were just the place! We enjoyed the feeling of isolation and peace we experienced, as well as the attractions the area has to offer - the Bourbon Trail and Shaker Village. The Inn provided a welcoming atmosphere and the breakfast was outstanding! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

We met our son and his girlfriend at this inn for 2 wonderful nites. The guesthouse was absolutely perfect for us…we had privacy and a lovely place to hang out after touring horse country and bourbon distilleries. The delicious home-made treats left on the counter were always welcome. We thought we might run a load of laundry in the guesthouse and detergent/softener were quickly provided as were the supplies for corn hole. Breakfasts exceeded any meal we had on our trip and the setting is magical. Summer and Boots are the yard cats that act like friendly dogs. We can't recommend this inn enough. We look forward to going back with some couples for golf and all that Kentucky has to offer!

We booked the entire inn for our wedding ceremony and to house our parents and our bridesmaids. The beauty, tranquility and elegance of the Inn speak for themselves but added to the entire weekend. Eating the amazing breakfasts each morning in the conservatory was absolutely incredible. Waking and meeting our family each morning reminds me of younger days on vacations :). Our hosts for the weekend were Susan and Jim and they couldn't have been any sweeter or more helpful. Grace was also wonderful leading up to the event answering questions etc... We stayed in the Somewhere in Time room and were in heaven the entire weekend. The rest of our family enjoyed their suites in the house and our friends stayed in the guesthouse with their kids and fell in love with it the second they opened the door;they would love to model their retirement home after it. The surroundings are a perfect setting for an intimate wedding. We did NOT want to leave and are already making plans to come back next year for our first year anniversary or even would love an afternoon tea..... Thank you for providing a lovely beginning to our story!

My wife and I left this property yesterday and, while driving back home to Ohio, were talking about nothing but returning. This is a great property and worth an extended stay.

This was our third visit to A Storybook Inn. This time, we were celebrating our daughter's graduation from UK. When I realized I needed to book accommodations for 7 of us for graduation weekend, I didn't even consider anywhere else. I knew the guest house at A Storybook Inn would be perfect - and it was. The guest house is beautifully decorated, the kitchen is fully equipped, the grounds are gorgeous, the service is topnotch and breakfast at the Inn is unrivaled. Thank you, Elise, for making graduation - and Mother's Day - weekend everything we'd hoped it would be. We will be back next spring for Keeneland.

I wanted to plan a romantic weekend with a special friend and the Storybook Inn was exactly the right place to do so. The themed rooms were spacious, beautifully decorated and appointed, extremely comfortable and 100% clean. We tried two and were transported to Casablanca and London. The deep south in the Gone with the Wind suite will be next. Do try the extra deep Jacuzzi! In spite of how comfortable the rooms are, you must get up in time for breakfast. Elise prepares a delicious variety of treats. Do not plan on lunch after that. Need anything at all: massage, tour guides, advice, roses and wine and sweets in the room, just ask. It will be done with class. There is much to see and do in the area and you're just a half hour from Lexington. The entire staff could not have been more accommodating. It was very private, we heard no one else though all rooms were booked and felt like it was our private house. The common area rooms are lovely and comfortable as well. The absolute only downside was leaving. You owe it to yourself and someone special to visit the Storybook Inn. SM

We stayed at the Inn from March 29-31. What a lovely property! The Innkeeper, Elise, is a wonderful, thoughtful, friendly and welcoming host. It is clear that she wants guests to relax, feel at home, and enjoy all that the inn has to offer. We stayed in the Guesthouse - it surpassed our expectations. Such privacy, space, conveniences, sleep quality, and quiet! It was the attention to detail that was A+ all around. From the helpful directions, the book, movie, and magazine selections, decorations, fabrics, bedding, furniture, and artwork - all of it just made us feel like we could relax and enjoy our time there. A Storybook Inn prides itself on cleanliness, and not just a regular clean like hotels or inns would do, but beyond. The bathroom with double sinks, air-jetted tub and separate shower was immaculate. Kitchen looked brand new. The homemade (and fresh!!) cupcakes with Italian cream and oatmeal cookies that were left each day for us on the kitchen counter in the Guesthouse were delicious. What a nice (and ridiculously yummy) touch. Elise is an innkeeper, but she is also a superb baker. Warm scones at breakfast - yes, please! The breakfast each morning was filling and delightful. Elise took us on a tour of the inn before we went to the Guesthouse. The common areas are so well done, welcoming, comfortable, and charming - and not in a way that is too much or over-the-top based on the name/theme of the Inn. This inn seems to exude approachable southern elegance. Due to the quality of A Storybook Inn and the overall experience, this place is a "must stay". We will stay here again when visiting Kentucky. It is convenient when driving around the area - a good home base! We say thank you again to Elise and A Storybook Inn for a perfect weekend getaway to explore the Bourbon Trail.

We spent 3 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. Elise, Grace and Veronica made us feel like pampered friends. The breakfasts were 5 star and so filling we did not need lunch. Elise set us up with Martha for a great horse farm tour where we learned lots. She also recommended super places for dinner. We stayed in Somewhere In Time suite and it was quite plush and inviting. After dinner was so nice to relax in the comfortable sitting room. The bathroom was so large we never ran into each other!! Also loved dining in the conservatory watching nature outside. We would highly recommend this if you are in the area.

I love people. I love pampering people, especially ones that need a reprieve from too much work or just a time away from it all. I have a background in nursing, nutrition, Real Estate, and hospitality. I am gifted in interior design, gardening, and love great conversation. Love to travel and to read. I enjoy creating in the kitchen signature dishes with fresh ingredients. My friends have all commented that all of those traits point to the fact that Innkeeping is the perfect venue for me.
