Cumberland Manor Bed and Breakfast

Several years ago, I found Cumberland Manor B&B and have stayed there on all my return visits to visit family in Middlesboro. Jill is a wonderful hostess who is very knowledgeable about area history and activities. The Manor itself is a wonderful old house that has been furnished with antiques to create a cozy and welcoming environment. I have stayed in almost every room in the manor, and each has its own personality and appeal. Jill is a gourmet cook, and her breakfasts are some of the best around! The huge front porch is a relaxing place to spend warm summer afternoons/evenings visiting with other guests. I always look forward to staying at the Manor!

My husband & I traveled to KY and found this wonderful B & B. Jill and John are the owners of this beautiful Manor. We were very happy to stay here, it's so beautiful and cozy. The Manor is filled with antiques and treasures. We stayed in the Lincoln room which was so lovely and big. Jill made us breakfast every morning which was always so delicious. I wish she could make me breakfast every morning that's how good it was.The hiking was so spectacular it was the best we've ever done. There is so much hiking here with awesome waterfalls, rivers and sights. Can't wait to come back, it's like being with family. Thanks Jill and John for your hospitality! Lisa & Brian

Cumberland Manor is the perfect B&B. This huge home has been beautifully restored to it's original state. The rooms are so pretty and very comfortable. Everywhere you look is a treat! The owner and hostess is a wonderful chef and a delightfully interesting Lady. Cumberland Manor should be on the B&B lovers Bucket List!!! I will definitely return for another very special visit.

We have stayed at The Cumberland Manor 5 or 6 times over as many years and love it more each time. The rooms are all unique and each exude a special character of their own. There are plenty of places to read, relax or visit.. from the living room or the newly and masterfully renovated den, to the spacious porch. There are plenty of walking or jogging routes on the neighborhood streets or a nearby park. It's central location provides access to any part of Middlesboro within 10 minutes or so. Jill and John are gracious and kind hosts. Jill's breakfasts are always a treat with fresh fruit, a variety of creative dishes and casseroles, as well as the traditional pancakes, omelets, French toast, bacon and eggs... just about anything you want, and always excellent. John is a master of renovation, updates and repair, keeping this historic building in great shape. We are always amazed by his handiwork and skill. If you want an experience far and above any that you'd have, even in the best of hotels, check out the Cumberland Manor. For us it truly feels like a home away from home. We can't wait to go back! A fantastic Victorian rich in wonderful antiques. The location is perfect for visiting the Cumberland Gap park. Best of all is the host: Jill is a lovely person, helpful (including with where to hike) beyond expectations, and a great cook (fantastic breakfasts, with fruit and vegetables from her own garden).

Almost accidentally we ran into this beautifully located and decorated B&B. Jill and John as the innkeepers from the very first moment embraced us with particular friendliness and hospitality at all times. After a great sleep, we experienced an outstanding breakfast (THAT was gourmet !) inside an antiques filled dining room (like the whole house). A wonderful place to stay, we would love to come again !

My fiances parents stayed recently while they helped move us in and paint. Myself, my fiance, and my parents were invited up to a private dinner and back for breakfast the next morning. It was so yummy, Jill was great- super friendly and full of facts. The house is very neat- didn't get to tour the whole thing, but she knew all about the history. It's in a very cute part of Middlesboro- we are already planning to rent the whole place for when he graduates to invite the whole family :)

After a long drive from Michigan in our Triumph sports cars,we were welcomed by Jill, the owner. She is a wonderful hostess cooking us a super 3 course dinner and an equally wonderful breakfast. The Manor is full of history and flavour and we felt so pampered in our four poster bed and spacious luxury bathroom. Jill works hard and has definitely scored high on the Bed and Breakfast to stay list! Thanks Jill and good luck.

The stay was absolutly outsatanding the food and and service great. For a rural community Jill really knows her stuff. ehe was a great help to my wife and I, and it really made our weekend alot of fun. it was a great get away from the hassle of Knoxville.

I frequently visit the area for work and always choose to stay at the Cumberland Manor. Jill and John are very warm and welcoming hosts. The rooms are elegant, comfortable and clean. The entire house is beautiful and has an interesting history that Jill explains during your visit. The breakfasts are absolutely delicious and often uses fresh produce from the garden. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast and look forward to my next visit!

My wife and I stayed at Cumberland Manor recently and we were amazed by the experience. Located on a hill in the beautiful countryside is this impressive Victorian mansion with superb views all around. However, even more impressive is the warmth and care provided by the propreitors Jill and John West. From taking care of everything we needed to providing local tourist information, they were wonderful. The breakfasts Jill prepared were delicious. The service provided was truly above and beyond. We would wholeheartedly recommend this place to stay to tour the beautiful areas around and enjoy this truly unique experience

My wife and I stay at Cumberland Manor Bed and Breakfast. It was a great expericence. Jill was very attentive to any needs we had and was a great host. The inn is a little hard to find. Middlesboro sits in a crater with mountains all around and the inn is atop a hill in town, but it is very scenic. It just might be a little hard to find if arriving after dark. There are reflective signs, but when you're not sure where you are going it could be difficult.

Outstanding hospitality, very clean, John and Jill were a pleasure to meet and they will take care of you rest assured. The views around the home are wonderful overlooking the mountains and there is a short walk to a quaint park nearby. The breakfast was splendid and very filling. Will definitely come back again, hopefully soon.

Jill was the perfect hostess. She gave us great recommendations for meals, hiking trails, and activities. The breakfasts were wonderful -- move than we could eat!

Each year our group, of motorcycle enthusiasts, takes off for about a 10 day tour of the USA. We try to stay at some B&B’s along the way and found the Cumberland Manor B&B online; called and made our reservation. Jill and her husband John (the Lord and Lady of the Manor) just happened to be motorcyclists too and so we had an instant bond. Last year we made reservations to stay but during our trip we had an incident and were unable to make it to Kentucky. Jill was so understanding about us our having to cancel last year’s reservation that decided to try again this year. Luckily they had availability and we booked our reservation. We were greeted as we arrived by Jill & John West, it was like we were seeing friends that we hadn’t seen in a long time. The location is wonderful and the charm of not only this historic home, but of the hosts was exceptional. There is a large front porch with rocking chairs, tables and a swing so if you just want to relax it’s the perfect place to do just that. The bedrooms are large, immaculate, decorated with beautiful antiques, as is the rest of the home, and the beds were quite comfy too. The prices for each of the rooms is very reasonable and based on the size of the room and bathroom accommodations. Due to weather conditions we stayed three nights instead of the one we had reserved and enjoyed every minute of it. Luckily rooms were available, but we think that Jill and John would have found a way to accommodate us in any event. The breakfasts, which included homemade muffins, egg casserole, toast, fresh fruit, coffee and juice were scrumptious. Whether you are just taking a tour of our country, enjoy hiking in the great outdoors, looking for a place to spend a honeymoon or just a peaceful getaway, we would definitely recommend the Cumberland Manor B&B. We plan on visiting again! - June 2011

Jill was a wonderful hostess, and this is a beautiful home. She made us feel very much at home. The only downside is that each room does not have a private bath, but the house is lovely, the room was comfortable, Breakfast was unbelievable, about three courses and plenty of it. The view from this home is very nice. We had a lovely time.

We really enjoyed staying at this Bed and Breakfast and although we were in town for a loved ones funeral, Jill managed to make this difficult time seem more bearable. She is a wonderful hostess and made us feel right at home. The Manor is a beautiful piece of history that has been marvelously restored. Middlesboro is a special place for our family it is where our father was born and raised. I am sure this Bed and Breakfast will be our home base for every trip we make to this area. The breakfast was wonderful and I really enjoyed the fruit dish and muffins. This is truly the place to stay when you are visiting this part of the country.

I don't know whether to start with the outstanding Victorian mansion or the outstandingly friendly and helpful hostess, Jill. My wife and I are traveling Canadians who were dawdling our way about the southeast US. We discovered this B&B online and called to see if there was space available. From the first instant that we began to chat with Jill we knew that Cumberland Manor would be a special place to visit. Once there, this beautifully and faithfully decorated Victorian won us over with its charm. The location at the top of the hill gave as a great view of the twinkling lights of Middlesboro below at night - it was very helpful to have a GPS to find it though. The gourmet breakfast was exquisitely prepared and presented. When we left we felt as though we were departing family, not merely guests at an inn. It was a most enjoyable sojourn.

We have stayed at this beautiful B&B several times and we always enjoyed our stay. The innkeepers were very hospitiable and knowledgeable about the historic area. They made us feel extremely comfortable, just like family. Anything we needed, they were there to help. The rooms are decorated with gorgeous antiques. Recently we have stayed at another B&B in Maine and Florida. Neither place was as nice nore as good of a value. I defenitly recommend staying here, the homemade breakfast is delicious. What a memorable place to stay. We will definatly be coming back soon!

Jill is very friendly and knowledgable about the area as well as her fine home. The home is beautiful and richly detailed. An outstanding example of the finest architecture.

My husband and I stayed at Cumberland Manor for three nites in early November. The house is beautiful and quite historical. Jill. the owner and inn keeper, prepared delicious breakfasts that included fresh fruits, french toast, freshly baked muffins etc. Jill also provided us with history of the area that was interesting and helpful in planning our day's activities. We stayed in the Lincoln Room and it was full of antiques, was impeccably clean and quiet. The stay was relaxing. We hiked in the Cumberalnd Gap National Historic Park and Pine Mountain, visited Wilderness Road State Park and the Bell County Historical Society. Altogether, the stay was wonderful and I higly recommend it.

Enjoyed a great long weekend at this B&B. Near Cumberland Gap NP. Beautiful antique furniture, very clean, delightful hostess/owner and she was a great cook!!! She was very knowledgeable about the area activities and history. Highly recommend this B&B if you are staying in the area. Diane & Randy

Extremely pleased with everything: spacious rooms, interesting history of house and surroundings, wonderful breakfast, valuable information on things to do in the area. Don't know of anything I would have changed. We highly recommend it and would certainly go back. Great innkeepers.

This September I stayed at the Cumberland Manor for the third time, and each stay has been most enjoyable. Jill is a warm and personable hostess with lots of energy. She has a great deal of knowledge about the the history of the area, as well as good suggestions of places to eat and area attractions to visit. The Manor itself is a remarkable home and is furnished with wonderful period pieces -- makes one feel a bit of what it must have been like to live on such a scale 100+ years ago. Jill is a fabulous cook and is most willing to accommodate guests' dietary needs/wants for breakfast (when continuing on my trip, she has even sent muffins for me to snack on while I'm driving -- most welcome!). I have stayed in three different rooms and found them all to be comfortable and very pleasant; hard to pick a favorite as they each have their own character and appeal. The huge porch is a wonderful place to relax and visit with other guests and to watch summer thunderstorms without getting wet. All the above good things notwithstanding, probably the best thing about staying at the Manor is feeling like I'm with good friends! Looking forward to my visit next summer; Cumberland Manor will always be my choice of a place to stay when visiting the Middlesboro area! Sue Eugene, Oregon

We had a wonderful stay. Jill is a fabulous cook and innkeeper. The house is beautiful, immaculately clean and has a great history. I do regret not having enough time to sit on the porch and enjoy the grounds but we'll definitely be back to explore the mountains soon.

Jill graciously took our last minute reservation on the day of our visit and greeted us warmly! The home and gardens were beautiful. While we chatted on the relaxing porch, she recommended a restaurant for dinner - an excellent choice -we had a lovely evening replete with musicians in nearby Cumberland Gap, TN. Breakfast was just splendid and we utilized each of the sightseeing tips she offered...and had a perfect day in the area. The muffins she "doggy bagged" for us reminded us of our brief, but charming experience. Thanks!!

We stayed at this lovely B and B for 5 days in August. Beautiful, peaceful, and best breakfast around. House is lovely, decorated tastefully and the hostess Jill is friendly, sweet and goes out of her way to accomodate the wishes of her guests. For the past 4 years we've had the pleasure of staying at The Cumberland Manor while we were in Middlesboro conducting our writing and music residency program at the middle school. Jill and John are incredible hosts and wonderful people who have become our good friends. Jill is a terrific cook, fixing a variety of breakfasts that are always delicious! She's always been more than willing to accomodate our schedule. John is a "behind the scenes" man, taking care of maintenance, repair and renovation (he's really good!), and always ready with a story or two. The Inn is a grand old home, filled with antique furniture and lovely decor, but with a real "down home" feel. The rooms we've stayed in have been comfortable, quiet, and inspring places to be creative. The large front porch is a wonderful place to relax in a rocking chair or hanging swing. It's located within a short drive of recreation, hiking and history - Pineville State Park, Cumberland Gap National Park, The Lincoln Museum at Lincoln Memorial University and Norris Lake. Jill and John can suggest even more places to visit and if you're a walker or runner, the neighborhood provides endless street routes or a nearby park for your workout! We highly recommend a stay at The Cumberland Manor Bed & Breakfast. We look forward to our yearly visits to The Cumberland Manor, and always find it hard to leave. My husband and I recently stayed two days at the Cumberland Manor B&B.. my first experience, and our stay was thoroughly enjoyable. I can't imagine any hostess who could equal, Jill, she's exceptional. Our breaksfasts were fantastic.. and yes, you feel like you are with your favorite family member! Jill provided every imaginable ammenity and I felt like royalty!

We stayed for 10 days and I will never stay anywhere else when I come to town , which is often. I had never stayed at a B and B and was full of expectations!! Jill was more than delightful and I now consider her a friend. Each room is so unique and well decorated, the house itself is fabulous not to mention the front porch and the lovely and quiet neighborhood. Homemade breakfast every morning, so delicious I am sure I gained 5 lbs!! Worth every bite!! I am already planning our next trip back and I can't wait to try out another room!!! I want to stay in them all!! I urge anyone interested in this kind of accomodation to PLEASE check out this Manor, you will not be let down. My whole family has stayed at Cumberland Manor together on two occasions. Staying with Jill and John is just like staying with your favorite relatives. What a beautiful and peaceful place. Jill is the best cook and I wish I could have brought her home with me! Definitely stop here for some great southern hospitality!

I read most of the reviews and I dont know what to add, the the hostes are very nice people .If you have time do the ride in the nearby mountains,very relaxing.This B&B comes very highly recomed

Cumberland Manor Bed and Breakfast exudes warmth, charm, and history. The gracious innkeeper greets you with a warm smile and boundless energy as you step into the more than 120 year old Victorian-era mansion. Each room is unique, and we loved our stay in the spacious Kennedy room looking out over historic Middlesboro and the Cumberland Mountains. We awoke to gentle rays of sunshine and the aroma of fresh bran-n-berry muffins and biscuits and gravy drifting upwards to our 3rd floor retreat. We will surely be back to enjoy again.

My wife and I stayed with Jill and John for our 46th wedding trip. We wanted a romantic get-a-way for a few days to escape the business of everyday life. Cumberland Manor and Jill's breakfast feasts more than met our expectations. We will return if only for the French Toast! Jill is a warm and friendly person and we felt right at home. We especially enjoyed having her visit with us at breakfast. She obviously enjoys her guests and we her. She is a delightful person and always doing little extra things (surprise tray of brownies in the evening when we return from our dinner out). We will return. Jill is a perfect hostess that makes everyone feel comfortable in this wonderful B&B...If your in the area or going to visit the area, do not hesitate booking your stay at "The Cumberland."

We stayed 2 nights at this lovely B&B. The room was large (Lincoln) and full of antiques. An ensuite bathroom had a great shower and facilities. Best of all was the inclusive breakfast that hostess Jill provided. Fresh fruits, french toast etc were better than any restaurants that we found in the area. They made us feel very 'at home' and we came and went as we needed to but provided everything we needed to be comfortable and pampered.

Stayed for 3 nights in Oct. '09. Decor was a trip on it's own. Jill was a pleasure and her "gourmet" breakfasts were the best B&B breakfasts we've ever had!! Definitely recommend.

What a wonderful B&B. My wife and I needed a place to stay in the area for a couple of nights and we picked Cumberland Manor. We had a great time in this beautiful home. We could not have asked for more attentive and cordial hosts. The food was great and we are looking forward to going back when we have more time to spend in the magnificent Cumberland Gap area! We had no idea what a neat place this would be and our stay was truly a serendipitous event.

This is such a beautiful house, inside and out, and so close to all that Cumberland Gap has to offer. Jill is an excellent cook. It's not many places that you get dessert (fruit cobbler) for breakfast!

My husband and I visited the Cumberland Manor B&B on Monday, September 14, 2009 as part of a week-long vacation to North and South Carolina. We arrived in Middlesboro that afternoon and the house was quite easy to find IF you follow Jill's directions through town and NOT the ones provided on MapQuest. Jill was kind enough to show us all the rooms and they were gorgeous, as indeed is the entire house. We were delighted with our third-floor bedroom as it was cool, airy, and very nicely appointed. There was no where to dine in the old part of town by the time we got in, but Jill was kind enough to recommend several places along the main highway (US25E). We had a nice dinner at J. Milton's and although we closed the place they were in no hurry to rush us out. Breakfast was beautifully served and very tasty: fresh fruit, home made muffins, eggs with cheese, sausages, and beverages. Since Mack and I were the only guests that morning, Jill was happy to keep us company and we had a nice chat while we dined. After breakfast, conscientious Mack retired to the roomy porch to catch up on our post cards, and I took a stroll around the cozy circle that is Arthur Heights. It was misty, but the little neighborhood overlooking the town is quite lovely and well worth taking a few minutes to stroll around. If you happen to meet Oscar the dog, greet him with friendliness and he'll soon get over his shyness. As usual, we could have happily spent more time here, getting to know Middlesboro and climbing around in the Cumberland Park immediately south of town. But for as short as our stay was, we had a marvelous time and would happily stay there again should our travels take us back to the area. I loved this B&B because it made me feel like I had come home after a long absence. The food was great and the massive porch was so relaxing with all of its chairs and the incredible mountain view. Most of all, Jill's warm delightful presence really makes the stay comfortable and special. She is the perfect host for this historical home.

If you want to be treated like royalty than Jill and John West BD is the place to go, it is a trip to the past when a person was important, not just their money.Jill is an excellent cook and a wealth of knowledge about the history of the area and all the things to do. A wonderful return visit to the Cumberland Manor. I stayed in the Roosevelt Room this time and it was lovely. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great; not to mention the charming decor of the room. The hosts were friendly and I relaxed on the front porch and in the garden with a glass of tea. I plan on being a repeat visitor. Thanks!

My husband & I stayed here for 3 delightful nights in May, 2009. While the weather was rainy for most of the time, we were warm & cozy in this beautiful victorian home. Every corner was filled with period furniture & interesting items. The gardens were blooming & the view of the mountains were impressive. The front porch was cozy & a great place to spend an afternoon reading. It was great to wake up to the smell of a delicious breakfast being prepared by our cheery hostess! Each day's breakfast was a surprise with delicious muffins and scones a special treat! And, we learned so much about the history of the inn as well as the cumberland gap from our host & hostess. We highly recommend this B&B.

My husbend and I stayed at this beautiful B&B for the weekend and will surely be back. The owners were beyond friendly and knew great details on the history of the house and town. They were both very resourceful and helpful with knowledge of the area and any events that may be happening. Breakfast was spectacular with great homecooked food served in a romantic setting. This was a great experience for us and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet getaway with a great view.

The inn is a 1900 Victorian house with a lot of impressive woodwork. The room was nice and clean with a private bath and the breakfast was good and hearty. We definately would recommend the place.

The Cumberland Manor is a wonderful place to stay. The home is beautiful with its rich wood trim and staircase to its period furniture. I have always loved the victorian period and loved this home as well. The innkeepers are very friendly and welcoming. They make you feel comfortable and see to your every need. The food is especially delicious and the mountain views spectacular! You'll want to stay at this gem.

I have traveled to many B&B's all over the world, And came across this spectacular Victorian in Middlesboro KY, First I'd like to say,The memory of our week there hasn't left my, mind, The views were just breathtaking and and the rooms so Beautifully done to a tee! Treated my family as though we were actual Family! You could feel the love going into the the meals that were prepared by owners themselves! I have been warmed by visits to others before ,but not quit as this !We recommend it to any who has not yet traveled or ever stayed in a B&B before! It's beautiful and welcoming!!!!You won't be disappointing! Were going to book our next visit very soon! I think once this little charmer gets out! When we recently stayed at the Cumberland Manor we weren't sure of what to expect...but, WOW!!!The Manor is loaded with fabulous antiques and a history to boot.
