    An Oasis, a Retreat, A Revelation

    It is difficult to pick a starting point when describing the hacienda itself - a beautiful courtyard with abundant seating, outdoor undercover lounge area near the outdoor bar, the deep blue pool surrounded by beautiful gardens, sweetly chirping birds, the breeze rustling gently through the palm trees, and the slight scent of lavender which I later discovered grows on the patio at the upper level of the Tower room accommodation. There is a restaurant on site and it is not a distraction to rest. Quiet murmured conversations, laughter, and music. The breakfast selection is varied and delightful, lunch offers many delightful options, and dinner was by far the best at any place I had eaten in Ajijic, and there are many discerning places to eat in Ajijic. The staff are very attentive, gracious, and accommodating without being intrusive. Everymember of the staff seem to be genuinely proud of their connection to the property and are terrific supports to the personalities of the hosts, Tony and Alex. Tony and Alex found time to serve as trip hosts on several occasions and Tony also accompanied me to the Wednesday local market as my guide and interpreter! The rooms were all finely appointed (yes, I slept in each one - I was there for two weeks!), with fine linens, Ferragamo amenities, soft down comforters AND my own wine fridge, fully stocked with local and international wines and beers, as well as waters. I am not doing Tony and Hacienda del Lago Boutique Hotel enough justice but I guess the biggest compliment I can offer is this: My husband, who has never desired to travel to Mexico, has agreed to join me at the Hacienda in November for my birthday - and we have already booked our flights!
