My wife and I recently spent two nights at this charming B&B, located in Negrar, north of Verona, high on a mountain overlooking vineyards, rolling hills, and country villas. We stayed in the largest of three rooms connected to (but separate from) the 18th century house of the owner and his wife, Enrico & Giudetta Corpaci. Our large room had a comfy king size bed, couch, fireplace, and functional kitchenette, a modern private bathroom. Hot water was ample. The room also had an adjustable thermostat. A flat screen TV and internet connectivity provided contact with the outside world. The B&B has an outside area for sitting that allows a great view, and the owners have provided tables and chairs for just that purpose. The area just outside the premises gave us some great photo ops of villas and vineyards. The home is gated and so, quite secure. Continental breakfasts were made available to us each morning, and were more than satisfactory. Enrico made our coffee strong (the way we like it). Juices, yogurt, rolls and toast completed the meals. Breakfast was served in its own room. Enrico recommended a nearby restaurant for dinner, and we went there twice. "Antica Pizzeria & Trattoria 'Da GiGi'" features wines of the Veneto region and serves great pizzas. Situated high on a hillside, it is a friendly place, suitable for families with children or for couples of any age. The hostess speaks some English, and that helped because our Italian is limited. Price is reasonable. Having been to many B&B's before, in my opinion the owners can make or break the experience. Signor and Signora Corpaci are ideal hosts: available and engaging when you need them, respectful of one's privacy otherwise. Did I mention that Mr. Corpaci drove from the B&B to retrieve us when we first arrived in Negrar, wondering how to find the place? If you are looking for a bucolic setting to get away from it all, Relais Ca' delle Giare will more than satisfy.

We had stayed with Enrico and Giuditta before, and were welcomed back like chosen family. The setting is spectacular - overlooking the finest vines for Amarone production in the world - and the relais itself is a sensationally restored old building. Lovely furnishings, all the comforts of a luxury hotel, and a garden that provokes long comfortable reading and warm conversation. We will return as often as possible.
