Sant’Anna B&B shines in a nineteenth-century building in Ceglie Messapica, a small town in the heart of Apulia, located on the North side of Salento and at the heart of Valle d’Itria. They called Ceglie Messapica “the Land between two seas”, and it is in fact few km far from the Ionian Sea and few others from the Adriatic one, set in the midst of the lands of centuries-old olive trees andTrulli. The B&B takes its name from the nearby Sant’Anna Abbey, built over an important pre-Christian temple dedicated to goddess Latona. “Christians, by analogy with the previous pagan cult, used to dedicate the ancient temples and churches which rose up over their ruins, to the saints who preserved and protected particular aspects and needs of everyday life”, as historian Scatigna Minghetti says. Latona in the ancient times preserved and protected women in childbed, as St. Anna does nowadays. Conceived in a typical loose-stone building of the nineteenth-century, remoulded in a faithful and respectful way, Sant’Anna offers a different kind of accommodation and pursues the culture of hospitality that typify the territory, in harmony with a slow, sustainable and deeply connected-to-traditions lifestyle. Staying at Sant’Anna means to live an experience through thefive senses, discovering a rural region full of tales, where Mediterranean Diet takes place, for its historical wine-and-food heritage. Sant’Anna is also a House open to art, it hosts exhibitions, musical and wine-and-food events, and sensorial trails to discover the marvellous valley of Trulli.

Right in the city center (just minutes way from the central square... on foot), this b&b gave me and my colleague great hospitality. The whole building has been recently renovated and everything is clean and modern whilst maintaining its historical-southern-Italy charm. Brakfast was served on the roof top: local cookies and fresh fruit. I really recommend it!
