Pat and Charlie have a lovely home. I was welcomed warmly and had a fantastic visit. The room was relaxing, the food was delicious, and I will certainly return again if in the area.
I stayed in the Edinburg Gap room. I loved the bed! It was so comfortable!!! Some of the best sleep I have had in a long time! The room was clean and the sheets crisp! The views were beautiful and Pat and Charlie are friendly and welcoming! The breakfast's were amazing!! I surely didn't leave hungry!
I can't wait to take another vacation and go back to the Hackman Manor house
Thank you so much for everything!!! I was able to find myself and get back to normal with the peace and quiet of the mountains.
Delicious food, beautiful view, kind and helpful couple, comfortable, very welcoming to my kids and I, and we would be very glad to go there again! Crisp, clean sheets, cozy, and in a beautiful town.
Staying at the historic Hockman House was a real treat for my family. Pat and Charlie are wonderful, hospitable people, and the house is a character in itself! We loved the Edinburg Gap Room....even though the bathroom is down the hall, it is private, and there's a secret passageway to the top of the house with more than a 180-degree view. It was so fun to sneak up there in the morning to see the landscape. The view to the mountains behind the house was incredible, and this was in the middle of winter without snow! I'm excited to stay there again in another season. The breakfasts were also the best I've had in a B&B...I'm still thinking of that french toast...Overall, a fantastic and memorable stay for a very reasonable price!!
The Shenandoah Room of Hockman Manor was spacious, comfortable and had a beautiful view. Pat and Charlie were wonderful hosts, and provided a tasty and filling breakfast. Edingburg and Woodstock had great dining options for lunch and dinner, and there was plenty do and see in the area. The entire experience was incredibly restful. We will certainly return.
Pat is very friendly and more then willing to help you in any way. The Shenandoah suite is huge! And the views of its private porch-nice! Quiet area even with a main road in front. And a plus-they let you stay just one night! Would definitely consider going back. And breakfast-yum!
I booked a trip through the Shenandoah Valley for my girlfriend's birthday to visit wineries. We had a great experience at the Hockman Manor House. The owner's very hospitable, the room was comfortable and the food was excellent. My personal favorite was the balcony off the second floor - a great way to start your morning.
Pat was extremely warm and inviting. She was knowledge about activities in the area. Pat provided us with winery recommendations and other outdoor activities. Once I met Pat she instantly made us feel at home in her home. I wanted someplace quiet and comfortable for the weekend and that was exactly what we received. Thank you Pat for your generous hospitality.
A relic of gentility past with a touch of modern times and conveniences. Lots of possibilities in this 1868 home waiting to be painted, polished, and revealed to the guests. Land is beautiful -- needs tending. Hosts were gracious and accommodating. Breakfast ample. Interesting experience.
My husband and I celebrated our 33rd anniversary at the Hockman Manor House. We stayed in the Shenandoah Suite. The room is lovely and very spacious. The four poster bed is very comfortable. The room has a sofa and love seat in the tv area. There is also a microwave and mini fridge in the room. We really enjoyed the private deck. The view is amazing! Pat and Charlie are wonderful hosts. Pat gave us a great recommendation on restaurants and even knew where to find a covered bridge in the area! Breakfast was wonderful and very gourmet. We had a fresh fruit salad, triple chocolate muffins, eggs benedict, hashbrowns, baked tomatoes with pesto, orange juice and delicious coffee! One night was not enough. We can't wait to go back! Thank you so much for your hospitality Pat and Charlie, you have the magic touch!!
We had a really wonderful stay at the Hockman Manor House and hope to be back someday. The Shenandoah room was so relaxing, and we really enjoyed sitting on the deck and reading. The food was excellent, and they were able to accommodate my need for gluten free food with delicious and varied breakfasts. Charlie also gave us great tips for hiking. All in all, it was a wonderful weekend.
If you want a friendly comfortable place to stay this is for you.
A little bit overgrown and untidy on the outside but very good inside, as they say, never judge a book by its cover !
Pat is so charming and so welcoming. My husband & I were happy to pull in on a rainy evening and find our suite (The Shenandoah) all ready for us. It was a comforting sight to see our four poster, 2 sofas and TV. We went to Sal's Bistro for dinner just 3 min. away (delicious), then returned ready to snuggle down, watch a little TV, or read before calling it a day. We were so content in this appealing suite. Breakfast consisted of fresh fruit with yogurt, a four cheese omelet. hash browns, broiled parmesan tomato, and a bit of warm apple with craisins and other tasty bits. We met Charlie at breakfast and found him to be a very nice person. He had to run, but Pat accepted our invitation to join us with her coffee. She is a pleasant conversationalist and an all around lovely person. We would not hesitate to recommend this B&B to any and all traveling in the area. We have stayed at many B&Bs in the past and this one not as overtly plush as some has everything to make it a most suitable "home away from home".
Our charming hostess, Pat, could not have been more gracious and made sure our stay was very pleasant. The room was lovely and perfectly clean, the bed very comfortable, etc, etc A delicious breakfast (far more than we could eat). The Inn is very well situated for touring the area and we would definitely stay there again and recommend it to our friends.
This was a last minute trip for my birthday weekend. Pat was very personable and even upgraded our room to the suite with a porchview of the river and mountains. Charlie was very helpful with directions and suggestions for things to do. We had a great time and will be returning.
This was one of the best Bed and Breakfasts we've stayed at. We stayed in the Shenandoah Suite - a charming and spacious room, but the best part was the view. Three sides of the room had amazing views of the mountains and a private porch off the room had the most stunning view of the mountains and river. The breakfasts each morning were delicious, not to mention Pat was extremely accommodating at catering the breakfast to meet special dietary restrictions. It was a delightful place to spend a relaxing weekend and we hope to visit again soon!
We enjoyed our stay at the Hockman Manor House in July of '11. We had a great room - we brought our 2 year old daughter and Pat made sure that we got a room that would accommodate the port-a-crib. Also, we really enjoyed breakfast! Pat made a great breakfast and used some of the food available locally. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Our trip to Washington's Cherry Blossom Festival wound up with a stop in the Shenandoah Valley. We spent the weekend at a lovely old mansion, in a luxurious room, wonderful food & gracious hosts.
Our weekend stay at the Hockman Manor House B and B was absolutely wonderful. Pat and Charlie are lovely and considerate hosts. From the tasty breakfasts to the on-spot advice of what and where to go, our stay was amazing. The Hockman Manor House is located on Route 11, but don't let that fool you. The House is three bricks thick and is very quiet. Our room was comfortable and private. We enjoyed our chats with Pat and Charlie, often at breakfast over coffee (delicious!). I must add that Pat took great care preparing food that I can eat. I am gluten free and she went out of her way to make sure I never left the table hungry. There were buckwheat pancakes, eggs, tomatoes with pesto, fruit bowls and endless cups of coffee. I can strongly recommend that people with food sensitivities can comfortably visit here.
My husband and I plan to return as often as we can!
The place was very clean and the host was quite knowledgeable about the local area. The breakfast on both days was well prepared, delicious and served early to accommodate our day long adventures early. The Edinburg Gap room is towards the back of the wing and was very quiet. The bathroom was large and the water was hot quickly.
After reading excellent reviews on the breakfasts, my expectations were high - and they were exceeded. The house was quiet, beautifully decorated, and had a fantastic view. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming the whole time. Would definitely recommend Hockman Manor.
Everything about this place is quaint, relaxing, and homey. Pat is an absolute charm and everything that comes out of her kitchen is gold. Two breakfasts in a row were cooked to perfection with a variety of fruits followed by eggs, bacon, cinnamon roles, baked apples, you name it. Charlie helped us map out routes to take up various peaks in the Shenandoah valley. The living area was cozy and relaxing to curl up with a book and a cup of coffee in the mornings. Loved it!
Overall, our overnight stay was delightful. The Manor House is a beautiful old mansion about one mile outside the small town of Edinburg, Virginia. Everything about our stay---from our check-in to our wonderful breakfast and departure the next morning---far exceeded our expectations. The host and hostess were especially delightful. My wife and I highly recommend this B&B.
What a lovely charming old home. This place offers the whole package, wonderful mountain and lake views, cozy accomodations, scrumptious breakfast, and convenient and close to so many attractions. All Pat's dining and attraction suggestions were fantastic. We had a great time and planon returning again soon. A perfect mountain getaway.
Pat and Charlie Sylvester are very nice people. There had been a mix-up with the reservations but Pat went out of her way to ensure that we were able to stay in the room we wanted for two nights. The house was very charming and architecturally interesting and the furnishings were comfortable. Breakfast was very good home-style cooking and there was a mini-fridge in the hallway by the bedrooms. The view of the mountains and Edinburg gap was beautiful and there was a lovely river behind their house. The highlight was borrowing Charlie’s canoe and life vests and paddling down the river to a scenic dam. Overall had a great time and would recommend this to people looking to feel at home in the Shenandoah Valley.
I want to write a simple review of our stay to make a recommendation for this Bed & Breakfast. The home is rich with history as is the surrounding attractions. Recommendations for attractions and meals were fantastic. We stayed in the Shendadoah Room, which is a beautiful, spacious room with a gas log fireplace and private third floor balcony! This room has an excellent view of the river and valley. The breakfast was great and everything was very fresh!
The Innkeepers are very hospitable, and personable, without being overbearing. Needless to say we certainly enjoyed our privacy in a beautiful home, while at the same time having 'localized' assistance in finding what we wanted, which made our trip exactly what we needed.
Breakfast was amazing! Beautiful area. Innkeepers were very friendly and helpful. Great weekend stay. We went river tubing, checked out local wineries and caves. Great suggestions on their website of things to do. A GREAT place to stay!!!!
