My wife and I are from Maine, and planned to spend a few days in and around Virginia's "historic triangle" of Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown. We chose to stay at the Hornby House, which turned out to be the perfect base of operations for such a trip. It was quiet and beautiful, with a great view of the Chesapeake from the center of Yorktown. But it was also right off the Colonial Parkway and thus a short, easy and pretty drive to Williamsburg and Jamestown. David and Phil were outstanding and pleasant hosts, and make a fine breakfast. Their family house is full of interesting details and charm. This is the place to stay anywhere near this area.
We came to the area to do house hunting and are so glad we found a location like this. Just a few steps from the water at York river and everything you could want at an Inn and a cute little historic area.
Waking up to the beautiful quiet of Yorktown in a big four-poster bed with immaculate linens and a fluffy duvet. What more can one ask?
The Host brothers are wonderfully attentive and an eggs benedict breakfast is a real treat. This is a family home and you can feel the care with which it is treasured. Good location for a history stroll and especially fun on Market Days. Walk to the water too!
Great way to kick-off the holiday season. Location was very convenient to all of the Yorktown events. Phil & David are great hosts. Breakfasts and afternoon wine & cheese gatherings are tops. Loved hearing the history of the home and family. The parlor piano (and a talented guest) provided great entertainment.
This was our first stay at a B&B. We were very pleased. The whole house was decorated very nice. There were individual AC/Heat units in each room that were very quiet and nice to have. Can't say enough about Phil and Dave (the two brothers that are the Innskeepers). Extremely easy to work with and talk to, will give you lots of ideas of what to see and do. Was very pleased with the stay and will definitely consider it if we make any return trips to the area.
My husband and I spent two nights in October in this wonderfully restored bed and breakfast in Yorktown. The hosts/owners were friendly, helpful and great cooks. We enjoyed the wine and cheese hour both nights and the excellent breakfast both days. There was a lot to do in Yorktown to entertain us duing the day and great restaurants to eat in for lunch and dinner. I would highly recommend a trip here.
I stayed here on a business trip and was very impressed. Dave, the host, was vey friendly and engaging. The food was great and the wine and cheese at 5pm was a nice touch. When I got stuck at a waterfront restaurant in the rain I was thinking of calling Dave on his cell. But before I got out my phone, who strolls into the restaurant but my excellent host! He had umbrellas and a minivan ready to get us back to the inn. That's what I call overflowing service! I plan to stay here every time I come to Yorktown.
Great place to stay for any type celebration or for just a real nice place to stay. The owners are fantastic and very personable. We felt very comforable and relaxed from the moment we came through the door. All the rooms are very comfortable and beautifully decorated. And the food....from the wine and cheese to the unbelievable breakfast was perfect. It is within walking distance from several attractions and across the street from a free shuttle to take you around. We are looking forward to staying there again in the near future. What a wonderful place to spend our 60th Wedding Anniversary. Our host, David Bowditch, was most gracious, doing everything he could to make our stay pleasant. The home is lovely, the rooms were furnished beautifully, and the breakfasts were outstanding. You will go away wanting to take recipes with you! The 5 o'clock wine and cheese hour was so enjoyable, especially getting to meet the other guests. We look forward to returning to the Hornsby House.
We loved this place for our wedding. Dave and Renee were wonderful host. I would highly recommend them for anybody. Great place for a small wedding. All of our wedding guest had a wonderful time and enjoyed the Hornsby house.
Wonderful, lovely inn in a great location in historic Yorktown.
This is such a lovely, stately home and my family and I will look forward to returning. Our room was beautifully decorated as well as quiet and spacious. We had an adjoining private terrace to sit on and we could see the York River and the Victory Monument. We were out for the afternoons and missed the wine and cheese that is offered, but the breakfast was wonderful with great coffee and delicious homemade food in a charming, gracious dining room.

We loved everything about the Hornsby House...the rooms, cleanliness, service, food and location. The Bowditch brothers are great hosts. We will be back!
We enjoyed our stay very much. The house was such a treat - so much history. We appreciated David and Phil sharing their house and stories with us. We will be sure to recommend it to anyone who is going to the Yorktown area. The hosts were wonderful, the rooms were large and comfortable and the food was great. David & Joan R
Dave and Phil:
The AC unit was the only problem in the room. The blower went directly on the bed. We had to shut it off for most of the night.
Other than that Dave, our stay was nice! You were a terrific host. Thanks very much! Rad
Part of the reason one goes to a bed and breakfast instead of a hotel is to get the feeling of the place. You feel like you are part of Yorktown and Tidewater history when you stay at the Hornsby House Inn. The Inn was converted from a family home that was one of the centers of the region's social circles for decades. That being said the two owners Phil and David have updated the house with comfortable furnishing while not loosing the historic flavor. Different family and friends stop by at cocktail hour to add to the local color.
I did not think I could enjoy such a marvelous vacation so close to home (we live in the Northern Neck) but it could not have been better. David and Phil are perfect hosts, so warm and friendly and so proud of this beautiful family home. The location is perfect for walking or catching the trolley anywhere in Yorktown which has more than its share of wonderful museums to visit. If I were thinking of visiting the Historic Triangle, I would pick this spot: all the charm of Williamsburg but much more user friendlyand less congested. I could go on and on about what a great venue this is for getting together with a group of friends or any special event!

We were treated to 3 gracious, hospitable evenings and 3 delicious mornings by David and Phil in the elegant surroundings of Hornsby House Inn! Escaping to its beauty and serenity each night, after the hustle, bustle, and excitement of William and Mary Graduation each day in Williamsburg, made for a truly memorable visit to Colonial Virginia. We have already recommended Yorktown and Hornsby House Inn to many friends and family.
Joined four life-long friends here for a mini second 40th high school reunion, and were met with gracious, old-fashioned, genteel Southern hospitality. We could not have found a lovelier location and inn in which to stay anywhere. The beds were incredibly comfortable, the rooms warm and inviting, and the breakfast was superb. It felt like staying in a friend’s home rather than in an inn. The decor was lovely, the attention to detail wonderful, and nothing had been left to chance. Everyone said over and over how wonderful it was, and we are already talking about gathering there again!
I highly recommend the Hornsby House Inn as THE place to stay anytime you want to visit Williamsburg or just get away.
When I learned that the Hornsby House Inn had been open only six months, I was amazed, as Innkeeper David makes it seem like they have been providing first class service and accommodations for decades. The house is beautifully appointed, the location could not be more central, and the food was excellent. I plan to return often, and recommend others do the same. John Warley
We came together to celebrate a “special” birthday with our mother. And thanks to David’s warmth and hospitality, felt like we became part of an even larger family--the Hornsby family. David shared his family home, stories, and gave us a look back at history to the time of Washington and Lafayette. This is a special place and we look forward to returning soon. Thank you!
The best place to stay in the area. The owners are one of a kind and will make your vacation memorable. Everything was great from the rooms, the service, and food. I will defiantly come back to this b&b.
We recently hosted 12 guests from Asheville, NC, in Yorktown for my husband's 60th birthday. We decided to reserve all of the rooms at the beautiful Hornsby House Inn so that our guests would have the "run of the house".
Where to begin with what a perfect experience we all had? The reservation process was simple and the inn hosts helped in all our planning for the two-night stay.
About the stay -- rooms are beautifully appointed and tastefully decorated. Breakfast is an unbelievable experience and a wonderful journey back into a time of elegance -- sitting together in a formal dining room with china and crystal and a full, fabulous breakfast.
They had the fireplace lit each night in time for our wine and cheese, and joined us for conversation and a sharing of history of the home and the area. One guest had a massage at the inn which she described as "magic".
We made a special request that we have dinner in the dining room one night, which turned out to be one of our best memories of the weekend. I hope this will be something they decide to do on occasion as they did such a marvelous job.
Our guests were so impressed that they are already planning a trip back and have been very specific about staying again in the Hornsby House. It has become "their place" in the historic area.
This is an experience not to be missed. The hosts and staff of this inn understand the words hospitality and charm and apply it to every aspect of their business.

Our recent visit to the Hornsby House Inn Bed and Breakfast was a thoroughly delightful experience. From the moment we arrived until the moment we departed, we were treated to the finest Southern hospitality. Dave and Phil were gracious hosts who willingly accommodated our dietary preferences. We enjoyed extensive and stimulating conversations with them and fellow guests. We found the Hornsby and Bowditch family histories, captured in photos and written material, particularly interesting and informative. Anyone visiting the B&B should be certain to ask to see the hand scribed cookbook written by Mrs. Hornsby, Dave and Phil's Mother. Although currently out of print, they are working at having it reprinted and available for purchase. It's a treasure of Southern cooking. We look forward to future visits to this delightful B&B in historic Yorktown.

This is a perfect location without the hustle and bustle of Williamsburg. In a very relaxed and comfortable home, the owner brothers Philip and David were extremely hospitable and friendly, as well as informative of their town, family home and history. Afternoon "Happy Hour" and breakfast were fun and delicious. Tanya cooks a bountiful meal made of organic and healthy foods. The rooms are large with comfortable beds. We didn't want to leave! We highly recommend the Hornsby House Inn.

Hornsby House has just opened as a B & B and they are off to a very good start! We stayed there for 3 nights as we explored Yorktown, Williamsburg, and Newport News. It has a great location for visiting many places, plus it is located right in the middle of Yorktown -- such a quiet, beautiful and peaceful place. The accommodations were wonderful as was the food and hospitality. David was the perfect host and very gracious as we learned of his family history in this beautiful home and Tanja's eggs Benedict were superb! This is the perfect vacation spot and would also make a beautiful wedding spot as well. We highly recommend this inn.
