Stony Ridge Ranch Retreat

Rollie and Steve have worked hard to make this an absolute haven for both couples and individuals like me seeking refuge and relaxation in the Hill Country. My recent stay was for a personal retreat, and Rollie made sure each day that I was happy and cared for. My stay in the Lily Peaches cabin (whose name isn't so dorky when you meet its namesake, the ranch cat) was upscale comfortable with welcoming snacks, beer, wine, water, fireplace, lush towels and linens, robes, and an amazing porch that looks out onto the evening sunset. Although my stay was in March and I needed no AC or heat, it was available. The drive is not for an expensive sports car, you are driving on caliche roads for 20-25 minutes to get in and out of the ranch, but that is what makes it such wonderful secluded getaway. The walking trails on the property were great for me, and the Hill Country State Park is just a few miles away. I will be back again and again for this wonderful retreat and Rollie's hospitality and amazing breakfasts. Get her cookbook too!

My husband and visited Stoney Ridge Ranch for our 28th anniversary in October and we fell in love with the place. We made it our base and spent time hiking, seeing the other towns in the area and just enjoying each others company. Rollie and Steve are warm and friendly people who will hang out and talk or give you your privacy as you prefer. Breakfast was everything that we expected, our room was beautiful and the special anniversary basket was full of tasty goodies. I loved the hummingbirds that were everywhere and took many photo's of the tiny birds as they squabbled and fussed over the best perch. We have said many times since getting home, " I wish we were on the ridge". The only thing that I would have changed is the weather, a little cooler would have been nice but in Texas it's hard to tell what you will have on any given day.

Quaint cottages, beautiful views and amazing service. This place is a perfect weekend get-a-way. Rollie is also a gourmet chef -- the food was sublime.

Our only regret about our stay at Stony Ridge was our booking of only two nights! Rollie + Steve treated us less like B+B guests and more like good friends who came to stay at their amazing place in the hill country for the weekend. Between the gourmet breakfasts, the wine & cheese, and the surrounding beauty, both natural and architectural, we seriously did not want to leave. We will definitely be returning to this wonderful place with Rollie + Steve - our wonderful hosts!

Winding mountain roads take you to the top with great vistas all around. The cabin was adorable and fuctional and the fireplace was a special treat. Rollie and Steve were very warm and welcoming to their little Oasis in the Hill Country. The breakfast Rollie prepared was soooooo tasty and colorful. Be sure and capture a least one sunset while you are there.... If you want to get away from it all....this is your place!!! The silence is amazing!!!!

Wow, where to start! From the moment we arrived for a 2 day anniversary retreat, we were immediately greeted by Rollie and the amazing aroma from her kitchen; freshly baked cookies! It turned out these were the same cookies in the cookie jar in our room, the Hill Country Log Home! The room was impeccably decorated and so comfortable. Rollie and Steve were absolutely delightful and made us feel so welcome. They educated us on the beautiful deer they are raising on the ranch and introduced us to their precious little dog, Ginger, who couldn't have been sweeter. The breakfasts were outstanding and Rollie graciously passed on to us a few of her culinary secrets in cooking, presentation, etc. We are eagerly awaiting her cookbook! Breakfasts started promptly at 9. We leisurely savored our meals and still had plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the day. You don't need to bring an agenda with you because Rollie has so many ideas for you on the ranch and in the surrounding area. There are opportunities to be active in the outdoors or just relax. We look forward to coming back there very soon. Thank you Rollie and Steve for a wonderful experience!

We were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary and looking for a getaway. This was amazing!!! From the warm reception with dinner waiting when we arrived to an amazing breakfast each morning. Rollie and Steve know how to pamper and make you feel special. Rollie is an extroadinary cook and every meal was excellent. I would recommend having Rollie cook all your meals and just stay on the property the whole time. We also went horseback riding and had a facial and massage. I feel like we visited heaven on earth for two days. We were truly blessed and I know you will be too!

Secluded peace and quiet in the heart of the beautiful hill country.

The ranch is way out in the countryside & an adventure to get there for townies like us. We opted to rent an SUV to travel along the several miles of dirt roads that lead to the ranch but our hosts manage very well in a VW Passat. We stayed 2 nights in Gingersnap with a grazing tray on our first night - more than enough for both of us. Breakfast was substantial and very tasty, served in the main house with a fabulous view. Rollie & Steve were excellent hosts and made us feel at home right from the start. Our restricted diet was no problem. The room was comfortable & very well appointed. We enjoyed hiking the walking trails & never left the ranch.

My husband and I stayed at the Stony Ridge Ranch for our anniversary. We live in Dallas and were looking for a quiet and peaceful celebration getaway. The drive alone to reach the ranch was beautiful; the views and scenery are breathtaking. We'd been to the hill country before, but agreed this was the most beautiful part we'd seen. The ranch is perfect in every way. The rooms are modern, clean and comfortable. The rooms and lodge are are cozy and perfectly done (not too "done"). Rollie and Steve were wonderful hosts. They were very welcoming, but allowed us our space and privacy too. The food was great! We had two home cooked breakfasts and an anniversary dinner prepared for us as well at the ranch. We felt honored to be invited into their home and onto their ranch, which really is paradise. We can't wait to get back and take our family and friends, too!

If you want to relax and renew and get away from it all, this is the place to go!! My husband and I stayed for two nights and wished we had time to extend our weekend. Rollie and Steve were exceptional hosts and the breakfasts were amazing, especially the homemade breads. Bandera is about 30 minutes away with a wine bar and outstanding restaurants. We can't wait to go back!! It is peace and quiet at its best!

My best friend and I just spent two fabulous nights at Stony Ridge Ranch. I had visited with my husband once before but it was her first taste of Rollie and Steve's amazing Hill Country lifestyle. She is now hooked and scheming to find a way to return soon! Rollie prepared a delicious dinner for us (served outdoors on the deck with feeding deer in the background) and we had amazing massages and pedicures the following day. What more can I say - it was the perfect getaway for two busy working moms (and friends for more than 35 years!) Can't wait for our next visit.

My girlfriend and I booked a Friday and Saturday night for a romantic get away and were very satisfied with seclusion of this B&B, the rooms are impeccably clean and have great views of the Hill Country. There's a sunset viewing spot and a couple of hiking trail on site. The breakfast the first morning was nothing short of awesome. Great eggs from locally raised hens, peppered bacon, a great artisan multi-grain bread, along with fresh strawberries, blue berries and black berries. However, the other couple staying there that weekend (there are only three cabins) did not seem to appreciate the gourmet food (they passed on the fruit and made it known they didn't like it). So the second breakfast, an attempt by the owners to appease the said couple was just OK, reverting to standard waffles. My girlfriend predicted that would happen after the first breakfast. Aside from that second breakfast, the only other complaint my girlfriend and I had was that the couple that own the B&B have an admittedly cute little dog that has the run of the place. Not in the rooms but in all the common areas, and if you're not the type of person that likes dogs indoors that is a small quibble. But the dog actually bit my girlfriends twice, not enough to break the skin, but still she was actually bitten twice. Both times in the presence of the owners and they shrugged it off as, "it just wants attention." I guess that's fine among their friends, but we're paying customers! So over all a good place, but with that "little" exception...

We apologize for our puppy nipping on your heel, as we said at the time she was playing and has never "bitten" anyone EVER. My husband and I stayed at Stony Ridge on our 11th anniversary. We have stayed at many B&Bs but this one was different than all the rest. The room was really pretty and clean but the location and the views were outstanding. Breakfast in the screened in patio was so nice, even in August. The food was the best! We will go back. If your looking for a total peaceful, relaxaing get away - this is the place to go.

WE had a fantastic weekend away from home! we were so anxious to pick up our girls from camp and ended up not wanting to leave the Stony Ridge Ranch From the time we were greeted by Steve to appetizers and wine with Rollie we were treated like family. We enjoyed watching the deer feed in the evening and waking up to an amazing home made breakfast. We will be coming back thank you for an well needed weekend away.

I just wish there were more than 5 stars in which to rate Stony Ridge Ranch. We were warmly greeted immediately upon our arrival. We were given a nice tour of the grounds and we instantly felt right at home. The hospitality shown by both Rollie and Steve adds such charm to this location. During the weekend, we enjoyed moutain biking (we brought our own bikes) both on grounds as well as a hardcore ride at the nearby Hill Country State Nature Area. We also went on a fantastic horseback ride in the HCSNA with a personal guide (Jeanne B - the best!). We recommend a visit to the Quihi Gun Club Dance Hall - dances every 2nd and 4th Saturday each month; what fun! Breakfasts at Stony Ridge Rance were top-notch. Rollie can cook!!! The wildlife was spectacular, birds and deer in abundance. My favorite part of the visit was sitting at "the point", a beautiful lookout at the top of the hill, while enjoying a glass of wine with my sweet husband. As soon as we got back home, I booked the same weekend for next year. I have a strong feeling that we will be back long before then, however. Thank you, Rollie, Steve (and Ginger!) for a fabulous weekend. We will see you soon!

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at Stony Ridge Ranch Retreat. There is such a quiet and restful atmosphere that it makes it a place to totally relax. And, when you are ready, there are lots of activities in the area to discover. Rollie and Steve's ranch is very interesting with their animals, birds, many hummingbirds, flowers, plants, olive trees and trails. There is a great place called Sunset Ridge and after a short walk, sit, relax and watch the sun sink in beautiful colors and the air is so clear and clean. Rollie and Steve are wonderful hosts with a great knowledge of the area. We have recommended their ranch to a number of people that were interested in it after we told them what a great time we have had there as this was our second visit. Thank you, Rollie and Steve!

We needed a weekend away to simply relax and escape the big city. Stony Ridge provided this and SO much more! This is one of the most charming and well-kept B&B's I've ever stayed at, and we will be back for sure. Rollie's cooking is out of this world, and was a highlight of our trip. And, as an added bonus, the drive in is simply stunning.

I and Ken had a wonder-full time there. Every detail was perfect for us. We hope to return there again someday. When people ask me where they can go in Texas Hill Country, I definitely suggest your place and speak of your home, the area and the cooking to the high heavens. Rollie and Steve's ranch is full of surprise and delights and best of all privacy. Birdfeeders, flowers, hiking trails, cats, dogs, great food, great home details and delightful decorating. Their hummingbird feeders attract literally dozens and dozens of hummingbirds. Maybe hundreds. We were so delighted with the experience of "their" hummingbirds at the ranch that we wanted to see if we could "invite" hummingbirds to come and visit us too. So we got hummingbird feeders and a few hummingbirds have been visiting this summer. Ken is now quite dedicated to those hummingbirds. Their lovely decorating details reminded us of how much we needed to make our newfound Texas home more artsy and fun like we used to do with our Connecticut home. We love fun colors and Rollie's purple chair out on the balcony actually made my heart sorta skip a few beats and it even gave Ken ideas to brighten up our home. One day, during the summer, weeks after we came home from that trip, i found that Kenny had painted our front porch bench aqua---one of my favorite colors---as a "gift" for me. Well I absolutely loved it. Within the following weeks, I then painted our birdhouses different shades of purple. attached is a picture. Maybe our neighbors think we're wacky and tacky, but I like to think we are artsy fartsy. LOL. Little kids love it when they take walks with their moms and we actually catch people smiling when they catch a glimpse of it. I just wanted to let you anyone curious about SRR know that in this way and many others, the visit to Stony Ridge Ranch has truly stayed with us, has affected us in a special way, and has even given smiles to other people.

We so appreciated such a glowing review from these guests. To know that you had some good influence on others, is quite heady and all that we strive for! We love knowing our guests pay attention to what we are trying to offer here at the ranch,and that they can take an idea they see here, home with them to create a little piece of paradise for themselves at home. This is the greatest compliment ever!

We just got back and cannot wait to go again. The B&B is at the top of a hill and you have a fantastic 360 degree view of the ridges all around. The only thing you will hear is the sound of the wind - we had forgotten what it sounds like. The rooms are very comfortable, the hosts go all out to make your stay comfortable, and the breakfast is quite a spread. Plenty of hiking/shopping and other activities in the area. The hosts gave us many tips from restaurants to which state park to visit, and where to pick up some great gifts from cowboy country! Thank you Rollie and Steve!

Just returned from our fourth stay with Rollie and Steve at Stony Ridge....what a delightful stay yet again. We will keep coming back...the peace and tranquility, the warm reception from "our friends", the comfortable cabins and superb out of the way location is just what we need every six months. We shall be back!!
