Dykeman House Bed & Breakfast

This was an excellent B&B. Hosts were very hospitable. Rooms were beautiful and very clean. Breakfast was very plentiful and delicious. Location was near to many attractions in Shippensburg as well as surrounding communities. It's a "must stay" place!!

Dykeman House is a beautiful historic home that has been lovingly restored. Located in the scenic countryside of Pennsylvania. Shelley and John are great innkeepers and make you feel very welcome. Looking forward to visiting again.

Meeting John and Shelly for the first time felt like we must have met them before....great people and so accommodating. We had to leave a bit early the next morning and there was breakfast waiting for us. And what a breakfast it was...wonderful! The B & B is so easy to get to from the interstate too. Hi, Both my husband and myself have stayed at B & B's in the UK, USA and Canada and we have to say this is one of the best we have ever stayed at. The owners are friendly, the room was wonderful (the picture on the web site does not do it justice) and the food was awesome. We were down in PA at a car show and our Challenger had a challenge...the battery died. We were ten miles from B & B, we called and the John came to where we were, picked up my husband and took him to have it replaced. After all of this we were greeted at the door of Dykeman House by Shelly who had place a bottle of wine with cheese and crackers out for us. The breakfasts was wonderful and plenty of very tasty food which filled us up. Our stay was great and we have already booked in for next year. Doris and Bill Knox Canada

I recently traveled to Shippensburg for a family reunion, the Dykeman B/B was recommended and Iam glad it was. I found the Dykeman to have a wonderful charm about it. The inside is beautifully decorated and the rooms are very comfortable and relaxing. Every morning they served a wonderful breakfast. John and Shelly are hosts to a charming historic B&B with all of the modern amenities, yummy treats and personal, warm service a busy traveler could need. From the cozy room to the comfortable bed and new private bathroom (with great hot water pressure) to the excellent breakfast, wine and cheese and the special peanut butter cookies, there was a lovely surprise at every turn. Time spent reading and chatting in a number of their perfectly placed porch rocking chairs and a generously shaded hammock, listening to the waterfall, left me feeling relaxed and ready to enjoy the State wide track meet hosted by Shippensburg University. I highly recommend John and Shelly’s Dykeman House.

We stayed at the Dykeman House over Shippensburg U. graduation weekend and had a wonderful experience. The room was very clean, quiet, and comfortable. The innkeepers were kind enough to leave wine, cheese, apples, and fresh water in our room. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious. We highly recommend this bed and breakfast.

A delightful place to stay if you are in the Shippensburg area. My wife and I were there to see a performance of Rain, A Tribute to the Beatles, at the Luhrs Center on the University Campus; a great theater. The Dykeman House is a tasteful blend of history and modern amenities. Its history goes back to the Civil War era; there's a picture in the sittting room of the Union's Colonel Chamberlain's charge at Gettysburg, and General Ewell's Confederate troops camped nearby in 1863. Our room (the Dykeman Room) was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. John and Shelly were gracious and charming hosts, serving a fine local wine and cheese reception when we arrived, and a sumptuous breakfast the next morning; too much wonderful food to finish! Great value and location; we are looking forward to a return visit.

Visiting grand-daughters (with their Moms) at nearby college, who joined us overnight. As our family group occupied all three guest rooms, John & Shelley went out of their way to accommodate our schedule .. including scheduling sumptuous breakfast to meet our time frame. Truly hospitable. The house and surrounding property art of history if the area - a bonus.

In early October, as guests of the Shippensburg Historical Society, we bunked at the Dykeman house. It is a beautiful home and property and Shelly and John Davidson pampered us. We had the Ewell room, which is lovely, and there was cheese, crackers, and Dykeman House wine waiting for us upon our arrival. We thoroughly enjoyed Shelly and John’s hospitality and company. Saturday morning we were treated at breakfast to John’s just made Apple Butter. He may not have any more left when you arrive, but its worth asking about! Also, if you find yourself in town after a performance, consider the “Before and After” café. Its a great place for breakfast late at night.

It was the 4th year in a row we stayed here ! And just like fine wine , it gets better with time. There's nothing like family,friends and good hosts ! Shelly and John are all of those wrapped into one ! We already can't wait till our next stay.

Recentltly we stayed at the Dykeman House while attending our son's graduation from Shippensburg University. Since it was our first time staying at a B&B we really didn't know what to expect. What a wonderful experience we had at he Dykeman House. The house and grounds were were immaculately kept and Shelly and John could not have been better hosts. The wine and cheese in the late afternoon was a great touch and the breakfasts were simply outstanding. We cannot remember when we've had better breakfasts ever! If you're ever staying in the Shippensburg PA area, be sure to look up the Dykeman House, you will not be disappointed!

The Dykeman House and the owners were so inviting and accommodating. My husband and I stayed here for our 5 year anniversary and felt right at home. The breakfast was so good that I had to ask for the recipe and actually made it the next day! I highly recommend staying here! It is a quiet country feel but only minutes from downtown Shippensburg. A++++++++++++ rating!

It was always an outstanding stay at Dykeman House in the nicely decorated rooms with the best breakfast I ever had. Thanks to Shelly´s and John´s always very warm welcome I felt like at home.

This is the second time my parents and I have visited the Dykeman house. It is special to my dad since his mother once lived there. Shelly and John are such great and personable hosts. We always have a wonderful time even sitting on the porch just telling stories! Thanks Shelly and John for a great time!

My husband and I stayed at the Dykeman House for 8 days. It was a truly wonderful experience and we would recommend it to everyone. The property is beautiful with trees and flowers. It is very peaceful. Shelly and John were wonderful host and hostess and it was a real trick to have cookies available. The room is very spacious and the house has a wonderful clean smell to it. You would never think it was a historical house. We will definitely recommend it to anyone and if we're ever in the area, we will surely stay there again.

This is the third year in a row we've stayed here.Very nice area and SHELLY and Dave make you feel right at home. The can't do enough for you, to make you feel like one of the family ! Shelley and John made the stay very special by remembering us from when we stayed last year - and they remembered all my husbands food allergies. It is a wonderfully quiet place, with cute baby ducks walking around the property. We will definitely go back if we are in the area.

We recently stayed for our second visit, it was great. Shelly and John are very welcoming and make you feel right at home. Our room was clean and comfortable. Had a wonderful stay at the Dykeman House. With no reservations the room was very clean, comfortable and quite. John and Shelly very much enjoy having a B&B and it shows, they were so welcoming. Don't diet when you come here, they like to feed their guest well. Wish we could have stayed longer, but we will be back to spend more time.

Dykeman House is only 20 or so miles south of Carlisle! This is convenient to all the auto shows held in Carlisle. We made reservations because of its' location. But, the Dykeman House and its innkeepers are a destination in itself. The home is like a southern plantation, landscaped beautifully, the interior is gorgeously decoarted with antiques. Shelly the innkeeper is hospitality at its best. AND... the breakfasts she serves are decadent in every way. If you make the choice to stay here you will truly enjoy yourselves. Bonnie

Very nice rooms, owners and breakfast. Shippensburg is a rather small town a little distance from Dykeman and has no decent restaurant. With only 2 rooms, the owners might want to consider as a convenience to their guests ( and additional profit for them ) offering a simple casserole type supper. I would have opted for a bowl of beef stew, french bread and a cookie to the meal I had in town.

We recently stayed at Dykeman house & found it to be a most pleasant experience. The house was beautiful and very clean. Our hosts, Shelly & John, were very friendly and inviting. Our room was spotless and the bed was VERY comfy with lots of pillows and blankets. Breakfast the following morning was delicious. This was, by far, one of the nicest bed & breakfasts we have stayed at. Hope to come back again sometime. Hinckley, OH

Spent the weekend of August 29, 2009 at the Dykeman House and can only praise the wonderful accomodations and services. We stayed in the Ewell room which had a very comfortable king size bed. The hosts were wonderful and could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable. If you are in the area, it is a stop worth taking.

John and Shelley make the Dykeman House an annual trip my wife and I always look forward to. We go over Memorial Day Weekend every year for the PIAA State Track and Field Meet. The room is great but the atmosphere is even better. It's the most relaxing place we've ever stayed and over that weekend we need to relax! I give my HIGHEST recommendation to the Dykeman House. Our stay was most enjoyable. Most notable was the comfort of the plush king mattress and the serenity of the location - just a few blocks from downtown Shippensburg- it was very relaxing. Breakfast was excellent and Innkeepers Shelly and John were very nice and most accommodating - even asking about food allergies for breakfast. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back again.

We dropped in at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon without any reservation. Even though the house was sold out the night before we were pleasantly surprised to find a room already cleaned and ready for us. The room was in excellent shape. Service was immediate and the breakfast was really, really good!

Our hostess was most accommodating and friendly, we had a lovely stay and would return anytime. It was very restful and pleasant. We enjoyed seeing the jumping trout. Joan and Jim Baker

My father who is 71 grew up in Shippensburg and his mother actually lived in the Dykeman house in 1920's. My father had never been in the house and always wanted to visit. So I made reservations for my parents and myself for a long weekend. This was such a wonderful experience. Shelly met us at the door at our arrival and she and John immediately made us feel welcome. During our stay Shelly shared lots of pictures and history that meant so much to my father. The rooms were great but the breakfast was wonderful! We will definately be back!
