Best bed and breakfast. Pam and Carl were very hospitable and helpful. The food was fabulous, the absolute best we've had at a B&B. The house itself was magnificent and the grounds were beautiful. Heron Haus is a short walk from the restaurants and stores in Pearl District. I HIGHLY recommend staying here if you have the chance.

Let's see now, how do we begin this review? Ah, yes, at arrival. The perfect driveway curving around maintained woodland gardens above and a wild woodland garden in a ravine below. Pam at the door to greet us with smiles and a warm welcome. An easy intro and a quick tour through a truly beautiful home. We booked the Mt Hood suite and it was more than we expected (and our expectations can be rather high, we admit): spacious, a view of the City, comfortable furnishings, and a king size bed with exceptional white-on-white linen. Pam and her wee crew are superb. They are helpful, knowledgeable, and exceptionally hospitable. Our stay was limited to three nights. We had tried to book four but left it too late and they had already filled for our first night in Portland. We had to stay elsewhere. Our loss, but Heron Haus is now our home in Portland and we will be back often.

In March 2015 my wife and I stayed at the Heron House B&B for the first time. During previous visits to Portland we had stayed at a centrally located hotel. The prices were reasonable and valet parking was free. This time we found the prices were high and valet parking was $37/night. We felt these prices were excessive and looked on the internet and found Heron Haus. It is reasonably priced for the area and has off-street parking. The B&B sits up high on the hill at the end of Johnson St. with views of downtown Portland and the lovely homes in the neighborhood. Our room at Heron Haus was large, comfortable and quiet. We slept well at night. If we chose, we could sit in the room and read when we were tired. And with the many nearby interesting places to visit we were generally relaxingly tired at the end of the day. There are a number of good restaurants just down the hill from the B&B as well as a street car stop. The street car gives easy access to more of downtown Portland and other Metro rail lines. We looked forward to our walks down and back up the hill. These strolls each day made these two eighty year olds feel much invigorated. Pam, Carl and the staff were helpful and prepared a nutritious breakfast each morning. We recommend Heron Haus and hope to be back in the near future. R & C Cady

Stayed 2 nights at the well located, beautiful Heron Haus and the photos don't lie- it is well maintained, comfortable and just a gorgeous house. The location too is fantastic- possible to just walk down to 23rd for some coffee, shopping and dining out. I'm afraid I cannot say wonderful things about the owners. We were not warmly greeted; they had us pay right when we got there before we even made it past the door and got to put our things down after a long journey getting there (again not such an amazing welcome,) didn't make us feel like we could ask for things we might need- like more hot water for tea when it ran out and had a small 30-minute window for breakfast from 8:30 - 9am, which isn't my idea of vacation. We made it down closer to 8:55 and I have to say you really must plan on being there at 8:30 if you want a hot breakfast- everything felt nearly cold, including the eggs. I wish there was more of a welcomed feel as they've gone to great lengths to physically have a wonderful place- but it felt like we weren't really welcome- and as if we were inconveniencing them by our merely being there.

We located the Heron Haus through an online search and decided to try it based off the reviews and the location, which is close to the Pearl District of Portland. We stayed in the Mt Hood room, which strangely had a good view of Mt St Helens. The room was large and spacious with a sitting area and gas fireplace. The shower had a Rain Shower head, which was low pressure and therefore made it difficult for my fiancé to wash her hair, but was fine for me. There were a number of windows with great views of the city and importantly, we could open them if we wished. The house is located on a hill above the city, so while many sites, restaurants and public transportation were within easy walking distance, keep in mind at the end of the day it is uphill back to the house. Pam was very helpful with ideas of things to see and places to eat. The breakfasts were all served hot and were different everyday. On the plus side, it added a wonderful variety (Swedish Pancake was awesome!), but not all the choices will fit all palettes. We rented a car one day to go to the coast, but other than that, used our feet and the public transportation to get everywhere and it was great. We highly recommend this location and hope to go back for a longer visit ourselves in the future.
