Wonderful stay on upper East Side!

Thoroughly enjoyed the four nights at Gracie Inn. Location was perfect, service excellent and staff went over and above to take care of us. Would definitely recommend to friends who may travel to NYC and I would definitely stay there again.

Quant hotel in a perfect location; and the attendant was pleasant and provided a continental breakfast to our room each day. But the room and the hallways of the hotel were generally quite dirty. Could use some vacuuming and general maintenance.
While this is a nice neighborhood, the security in the hotel didn't meet our standards. The latch on our room door did not lock. The actual latch fell out from the door jam and looked like it should have been easy to repair. We asked the attendant to fix it, but he was not able to during the four days we were there. Also, the door to the outside of the hotel did lock if people pulled the door shut, but many times when we came back from going out, we could push the outside door to the hotel open without using a key. While we had nothing stolen, we couldn't help but be concerned each time we returned to our room. For the price we paid for our stay, we expected much better.

If I hadn't already paid in full I would've left after the first 5 mins. I should have known something wasn't right when Gracie Inn charged my card 5 days before arrival. I called to ask why they hadn't waited till I checked in and the lady on the phone said they needed the money in full now. Upon check-in, the clerk gave me a piece of paper that said our room was 410, however my email communication from Gracie Inn said we were staying in room 306. He explained I needed to fill out the breakfast menu on that paper and turn it into the drop box before midnight. Unless we had changes to our breakfast options, we would receive the same breakfast every morning. We headed to room 410 and the key wouldn't fit in the door. The clerk then handed us the correct keys but it was difficult to get the doors open. Our room isn't what was described on their website. The floors were dirty like they were never vacuumed. The beds were very squeaky. They were also extremely uncomfortable. My bed's headboard was hanging on by one screw. They gave us 1 bath towel for two people. I had to ask for more towels the next morning since nobody is available after 6pm. We were promised over 100 stations along with HBO and that was false. There wasn't a clock to be found at all in this place. I had to use my phone as an alarm. We did receive breakfast the next morning and it was only OK, but we didn't receive it on the other two mornings even after waiting till 9:30am. When I inquired about where breakfast was on Sunday morning at 9am, the housekeeper said we never filled out a form indicating we wanted breakfast. That was a lie. The housekeeper was on her cell phone texting during our entire conversation. The first morning there, we took freezing cold showers due to no hot water. On the last day, the blinds in the room my sister was sleeping in were on the floor leaving the entire window facing the alley way exposed. Once again, it was after 6pm so nobody was at the desk.

At the Gracie Inn Hotel, we take customer service very seriously so we are disappointed when we find reviews like this from any guest who had anything less than a pleasurable experience.
It is true that the city was doing some routine maintenance on the plumbing system, turned off our hot water, and forgot to turn it back on. We are very sorry for the inconvenience this caused.
And yes, the reception's office is only open during the day but guests have their own key and can come and go as they please.
It is also our policy to charge the remainder of the reservation one week before arrival, but as long as you book a refundable reservation, the deposit is refundable up until 3 days before your arrival and the rest of the payment is refundable up until the day of your arrival.
In regards to the general condition and cleanliness of the room, we are very sorry that you experienced that and have already taken measures to ensure that this will not happen again in the future.

I stayed here in 2004 and the place was like a west bank Paris hotel. Beautiful, private and reasonable. Now it looks like it wasn't cleaned since then. The sheets had holes in them, the glass in the bathroom was full of old toothpaste the shower had mold. The air conditioner was plugged into an extension cord that was strung over the stove and plugged into a wall outlet. There was no one in the hotel when I arrived and no one there when I left at 9:30 the next morning. One of the worst!

Mi estancia en Gracie Inn fue muy desagradable. Las fotos que ponen en la pagina del hotel no se ajustan a la realidad. Yo nunca había estado en un lugar tan sucio, repito sucio, muy sucio y descuidado. Sinceramente no entiendo como no les da vergüenza tener en estas condiciones el hotel. Lamentable.
En la pagina web se ofrece un servicio de habitaciones que no es real, engañoso , para denunciar.
No recomiendo alojarse en este lugar HORRIBLE.

The place is located in a very good situation, it's so peaceful and lovely, thee staff are so friendly and understanding. I really recommend this place and if someday I plan to go back, definitely I'll book the suit with balcony their.

My wife and I were excited about staying at this Inn based on the website photos and video. What a mistake! We arrived exhausted after a 12 hour drive, just to find that everything in our room was filthy and disgusting. When we checked the beds, the sheets were full of dirt and hair! The pillow cases were turned inside-out. No one was available on-site, so we called the number on the front door and left a message describing out extreme dissatisfaction. No one returned our call. Needless to say, we left and had to find another place to stay. I have disputed the charges with my credit card company and will sue the Inn if my money is not refunded. The inn is cute, in a residential neighborhood. The breakfast was served very nicely right to our door. The room had a dining area, couch, tv, small efficiency kitchen. It was clean and well lit. The service was very pleasant and friendly. It is only a fifteen minute walk from the Met Museum and plenty of shopping and dining.
I was a little worried when I saw the review from mr negative. I have no idea where he stayed it couldn't have been at the gracie inn. I would recommend it.
Regarding bedandbreakfast.com, the process to use the gift cards was completely pleasant and painless.

As a former New Yorker, and who lived in "the City" for over 40 years I sadly have to report that this hotel as disgusting!
Any review you see that is fates this hotel more than a one star hotel is either and friend, employee, or is someone who is used to sleeping in a tent.
After retiring and living in California for 5 years I decided to go back and visit my brother, who lives a block away from this flea trap. When my wife searched for a reasonable hotel for me on the web she found this place, and called up to make a reservation. When she told me the address I was shocked that I never heard of this Hotel. Since I know the area very well, my brother lives one block away; I looked them up on the web and saw nice pictures, etc. of the rooms and assorted accommodations there. I called to double check my sanity and while talking to them I checked them out their address on Google Street view and just saw a very old tenement building, the type of building that have been torn down over 40 years ago. I asked the reservation guy to confirm that I was looking at the right building and he confirmed it, but told me that it was totally redone on the inside and that the pictures were actuate. When I got there, one has to use a complicated 12 step procedure to get in, and opened the main door, I could see that this place was a major candidate for urban renewal. The pictures you see on the web are not of this hotel. The elevator can handle a total of 2 people with luggage, at best. The door to the room is so old that the spaces for the original locks are still there. The minute I opened the door I was horrified of what I saw, and it was apparent that, for even a blind person, that this room was still in its original 1920s state with the exception of a bed. The room had a very small dirty a/c, etc. The flat panel TV that is really a 19in commuter monitor hooked up to 2 remotes that an engineer could figure out how to use. Since it was very late and I had prepaid 3 days, and, once again, there was NO FRONT desk personnel and I could not check out and get a full refund. I went out and got a bottle of wine, drank most of it and went to sleep. The next day, I spoke to the manager (who also cleans the rooms) that I wanted to checkout and get a refund for the two days I had prepaid. We also had a conversation regarding the deceptive pictures of the hotel on the web, and he of course agreed that they used random pictures but they were not of the actual hotel. I got out as fast as I could.... and for a few dollars more stayed at a Marriot Courtyard.

Funny story. Maybe that bottle of wine he mentioned in his review went to his head. (note: he did mention his sanity in the review, as well)
We are not going to waste your time with a story and we promise not to make value judgments on what should be torn down… as we love NY history and NY architecture that is why we live and work here. We do not make value judgments on who cleans rooms. We are a team and every position on our team is important. We don’t accuse “other guest” of “sleeping in tents” that would make us sound pious. We don’t make acquisitions of who wrote previous reviews without any evidence as that would make us look less creditable. We never admitted to his claim of “random” pictures because that conversation never took place.
What we will say that we are honest, work hard and do not misrepresent ourselves.
The guest never complained while here on property and stayed he did stay all three days. Any he never approached the third party be booked with either. This is not a prison. It is a hotel. So why the rant on-line?
Our questions are…
Why was he using the AC in late November when it was below freezing?
Our elevator holds 4 persons or 1000 lbs per the inspection sticker from NY Dept of Bldgs. Is he claiming to trump this dept.?
The Dept of Bldgs, AAA, NY Hotel Assoc. and Expedia inspected our locks and they passed. What does he know that they don’t?
What is a commuter monitor? What type of engineer? Funny they did not mention an engineer was needed when we bought the TV from Best Buy.
