Nestling on the edge of the historic Market (Friday) Town of Helmsley the Carlton Lodge Award Winning 4 Star Guest House operates under a sustainable visitor charter awarded by the North York Moors National Park. Spectacular scenery surrounds Helmsley and the Carlton Lodge which is ideally placed to explore the Moors historic York the Yorkshire Dales and the east coast resorts of Whitby Scarborough and Robin Hoods Bay In an area dedicated to conservation preservation and recreation history and heritage are evidenced everywhere from the ancient ministers and abbeys including world famous Rievaulx to classic stately houses like the magnificent Castle Howard. Rapidly becoming a foodie hotspot Helmsley boasts not only a Michelin Starred restaurant in Byland 5 miles away but also a variety of food shops and unique country emporiums where specialist clothing and interesting gifts are sold at very realistic prices. The Carlton Lodge was built around 1868 and boasts 8 individual en suite rooms a bright and cheerful Breakfast Room and a comfortable Lounge. Please remember that at most weekends we only like to offer two night bookings because 24 years at the Carlton Lodge has taught us that we will be unlikely to sell the other night. We do price up for single night stays at weekends BUT at an enormously inflated charge (nearly double our standard price) to compensate for the loss of the other night. Sometimes however guests check out after a longer stay on Saturday so querying the online booking service is always a good idea as we do list single weekend nights at our standard charge when they become available On the edge of the Moors it is possible to be walking on them just 10 minutes after leaving the Carlton Lodge. Routes maps walks ranging from 1 to 17 miles are available in our ‘Walking Library’ and the Cleveland Way the Ebor Way and the Inn Way start/end in Helmsley.
