Trails End Inn

The weather was unseasonably warm, lodging comfortable, food delicious, company interesting and lively...but the best of all was the lovely front porch. Taking coffee on a crisp morning, rocking in a chair and reading. Drinking a glass of wine and talking with friends in the evening after a day of hiking was a wonderful way to end the day.

This is a great bed and breakfast, with outstanding breakfasts. The owners and staff are very helpful and friendly, and having a room with a fireplace was terrific given how cold it was during our visit.

This was our 4th stay at Trails End Inn and it is always a great time. Rooms are clean and the food is wonderful.

Convenient location off the road and close to the hiking trails. Spacious and clean rooms. Cosy breakfast served in front of an open fireplace. Very convenient check-in and check-out. Friendly service. Looking forward to come back. Just make sure the line-up at the border is not getting too crazy otherwise we might not want to come back :-)

Right off the Main Rd, in Keene - easy to find - but SO far back down the extra long winding driveway, you might as well be in your own valley. Owners very nice, but left you alone for the most part which is what we prefer. Delicious breakfast, and afternoons of cocoa, coffee, tea, and cookies. Pleasantries with other guests at breakfast, but could sit on your own, at private tables. Watch the birds and squirrels at the feeder outside, beside a warm fire every morning. Go straight across the street for homecooked packed lunch/dinner, or down the road to Ausable Inn for homecooked dinner. Great value either place. Best part - we had our own fireplace in the room, with logs provided, and used it every night. We'll be back!

My wife and I have been coming to the Adirondacks for 7 years, and have always stayed in the Trails End Inn. It is by far our favorite bed and breakfast, we even have mugs from there that we use year round. The atmosphere is amazing, like a home away from home, and the cooking is absolutely phenomenal. Staying here is a treat, and we hope that they will continue to operate for years to come.

This was the second time I've stayed at the Inn. Everything is very clean, the people are friendly, breakfast was delicious and all in a very relaxing environment. Can't wait to stay again!

We love this place. We visit at least twice a year.and we're never disappointed. Susan and Dave do small things that make a difference whether it's a special lunch or the evening cookies you feel comfortable and at home.

To me Trails End is like an Adirondack Great Camp. The grounds and buildings have everything I want: isolation but also closeness to my favorite hiking trails in the mountains. I have only stayed in the main building, but this has all the rustic charm I get away for, but also plates of fresh baked goodies greet you whenever you enter.

This was my second stay at Trail's End and we joined 10 other couples for a 3 day weekend. The owners, Susan and Dave, could not be nicer and they are very unobtrusive (it's possible you won't even meet them!). I happen to prefer a place where you can take charge, start the fire when you want, stock the guest fridge with goodies, come and go without anyone checking on you, etc. Breakfast is included and is prepared by Susan. The menu varies, but each one was a treat. If you plan ahead, Susan will do dinner for groups of 10 or more. (There were 16 Canadian climbers staying at the same time and they had reserved the dinner.) The inn is located at the doorstep of the High Peaks, perfect for any adventure. I only go here during the winter, so skiing and hiking opportunities are plentiful. We found Trail's End by chance last year as it is near the Mountaineer, the legendary camping store in Keene Valley. We were in a pinch and we asked them what was nearby. A fortunate find for sure.

My son and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Trail's End. It is a very welcoming place and the "homemade" breakfasts are superb.

A great and friendly place. The innkeepers were wonderful and allowed us to enjoy our stay with very minimal intrusion. We intended to do some High Peaks snowshoeing and we were able to do that and more, especially with 2 feet of fresh powder. The breakfasts were fantastic and I liked the open-seating from 7:30-9:00. We were not obligated to be at the table at one certain time with every guest. Further, the hiker's "sign-out" sheet was ingenious. We are glad to have known that the Inn was looking out for us, especially if we didn't make it back on time. The binder with all of the local restaurants was a must, especially with Keene Valley being such a small town and the larger Lake Placid being so far away. Baxter Mountain Tavern was our favorite place.

Trail's End is our "go to place" in the Adirondacks; a unique location close to great trail heads as well as restaurants. The common areas are warm and inviting; the rooms and cottages are clean, comfortable and oh so relaxing. The breakfasts are delicious and filling and the owners and staff are friendly, knowledgeable and eager to make your stay as perfect as possible.

The rooms were very clean and the staff was very friendly. The pancakes for breakfast were DELICIOUS!

Very nice stay. You have a lot of freedom to use all of the facilities. The rooms are very cozy and warm and the gathering areas are very nice. We went in the winter to hike and ride snowmobiles and it was well situated to all kinds of winter activities

We chose this place because it was the only place in the area that still had a vacancy for the dates we wanted. What a pleasant surprise! are room was cozy with a private bath and a fireplace. The common areas were warm and comfortable. Just what we needed after a long day on the trails.

My girlfriend and I had sought refuge here after the deer flies and constant rain we encountered while camping two summers ago. We were delighted to be able to stay in the same room this New Year's Eve as we had before. The fireplace is lovely in the wintertime, the room was warm, and everything was neat and clean. The food, as with our previous visit, was exemplary. The OJ was great, the canteloupe was some of the best I've had, and the lemon-blueberry scones and belgian waffles were oh-so-delicious. The staff, as before, were warm yet aloof; this suits our style of traveling quite well (we've encountered some 'clingers' at other B&B's before and appreciate our space and alone time). The price really is a bargain when considering location, accommodations, and the awesome breakfasts. We will definitely be back!

Great, quiet location that's close to many of the high peaks. Very hands off owners who help you out as much as you want to be helped.

We came for a winter climb in the Dacks and wanted a nice home base. This was it. The room was nice and clean. Very comfy beds!! The owners are wonderfully friendly and helpful. We liked the idea of the binders with suggestions from guests for 1) dining places with reviews and 2) hikes with details. The common rooms were comfortable and a nice place to hang around in. The breakfasts were hearty and delicious and the coffee was wonderful! We will be back. Thanks Susan and Dave,. You made our stay a really nice one!

Our honeymoon stay in the Blueberry Cabin from the Trails End Inn. The cabin was in an excellent location 45 minutes from Lake Placid and 1 hour from Lake Champlain. The hiking opportuinities are endless and the scenary in unbelievable from the top of the mountains. Breakfast at the INN was much more than we expected and the food was delicious. The Inn keepers served are every need and were very informative. Looking forward to returning as soon as we can. The scenic riverfront view was beautiful during the crisp autumn mornings.

This was our 4th time staying at Blueberry or Cranberry Cottage. It is a great location for easy access (short drive) to the major trailheads of the ADK. It is on a quiet road off the main drag of Keene looking out on a beautiful stream. Keene is fantastic--with small restaurants, convenience stores, and the Mountaineer equipment store. Nice to be out of the fray of Lake Placid. Blueberry itself is well-equipped and roomy for 4 people. Entrance mud-room area with bedrooms off it. Laundry to clean up. Two hot showers. Relaxing, comfortable living room with a wood stove and TV to chill with after a long day on the trail. Great wraparound veranda to sit out and check the stars or have your morning coffee. Owners easy to work with and hospitable. We'll be back.

Perfect timing. Just missed the hussle and crowd of leaf peepers. Had a wonderful quiet time with great fireside room accomodations. Thier dining room w/ fireplace is a huge bonus. Stayed there 10 years ago and it was a bit crowded in the old room. Our room (Skylight) was comfortable and spacious. Sue was a very pleasant hostess. Breakfast was excellent. Out of the way and yet close enough for all we wanted to see and do.

The Gothics room was so wonderful!! Amazing cinnamon raisin scones!!

Enjoyed the rustic charm and the locale of this B&B. Self check in and didn't meet the owners until last morning which was fine for us. The Gothic room is great but needs a better showerhead, otherwise no complaints. Diner within walking distance (I guess famous for pies) and many hiking trails closeby.

Trail's End is a warm, welcoming place, right down to the plate of fresh cookies that appears in the lobby every afternoon. It's rustic yet comfortable, the perfect base for exploring the High Peaks. The breakfasts are amazing!

We anxiously look forward to seeing what great breakfast they will have each morning. The rooms are very unique, comfortable and quiet. A very fine place to stay.

Dave and Sue made an early breakfast for me all three days so I could get climbing in the Adirondacks to my heart's content. They also cooked a different breakfast for me one morning. If I am dwelling on the food, that's because it was great. The fire in the fireplace and homemade cookies for snacks spoiled me. It is easy to stay at Trails End and I love going there during any season.

We have been staying at the Trail's End for many years now and will continue going back. Susan and Dave are wonderful hosts. There was a note in our room when we arrived welcoming us back. The location is perfect, breakfast is ample and yummy, and the afternoon cookies are a welcome treat after hiking. One tiny problem: the "king" bed in some rooms is two twin beds pushed together and since we like to sleep cuddled together, I often end up in the crack between the two beds. But that problem aside, we both love the inn.

Spent several days hiking in the High Peaks, and the Trails End was the perfect place to return to at the end of a day of hiking as well as a great place to start the day. During our stay the place was filled with people doing the same things we were, creating a convivial atmosphere. Close to many trailheads, I look forward to returning many times.

Stayed in the Algonquin Cottage. As you enter the building you get a strong mildew oder from the utility/maids closet. The oder is outside of the living qaurters so soon forgoten. Nice atmosphere, quit and cozy. Breakfast was awesome!

We had a great stay. As always the room was perfect as was the setting. Breakfast was wonderful and they made allowances for a dietary restriction in our party. We loved it!

We have made it a tradition of staying at the Trail's End Inn every Autumn. The area is lovely and the Inn simply enhances the aura of the season. Dave and Susan are gracious and accomodating- but not intrusive. It is very comfortable to stay at the Inn and there are subtle new improvements and additions every year. Breakfast is wonderfully unique each AM. There are nice local places for lunch and dinner as well. The rooms are quaint, comfortable and have what you need. The suites are rather roomy. Trail's End will be part of our Fall ritual for years to come!

Our stay at Trails End was much better than I hoped. Some of the reviews mention the thin walls; it was never an issue, even with a fully booked inn. There was someone to check us in and show us to our rooms and the owners were helpful and pleasant. We especially enjoyed the ability to hike directly from Trials End. Evening meals at the Noonmark diner were a short walk as well.

Stayed 4 nights in the separate cottage, over a long weekend for a destination wedding at a nearby location. This is the nicest place in Keene Valley if you want to be away from the traffic of the main road, since all the other locations are right on the highway. Very comfortable place.

This exceptional B&B, in the heart of the adirondack mountains, offers a laid back experience with exceptional country charm. Rooms vary from a simple country bedroom to a mini suite with a jacuzzi tub and a fire place. You can feel the stresses of everyday life leave your body while the fresh air and surrounding mountain view invigorate your soul. This is a perfect base camp for hiking numerous mountain trails; very cloe to the Giant Mountain and Roostercomb trailheads. Susan & Dave keep it very simple so that it seems like you are at your country estate. Game rooms, a library and and many musical CD's for the player in your room. Fresh baked cookies in the main foyer after after 3:00 PM and a variety of Kurig coffees. Just one of those places you have to come back to and try a different room experience. Lake Placid & White face is literally a hop, skip and a jump away; just 20 minutes travel time. Now for the exceptional 5 Star gourmet breakfast! World class fare starting with your choice of juice, 5 choices, fruit, 5 choices, coffee or tea, Cinnomen roll scones or gourmet muffins, then a souffle or blueberry sourdough pancakes, or vegatarian if you lilke, homeade sausage or bacon. more than 4 people could eat. I cannot say enough about the exceptional breakfast fare as the make you feel like true royalty. I highly recommend that you check this place out for yourself because it will become attached to many memmories for years to come! Again & again & again! This was our 4th time and we will come back again! Make it a part of your memories; leaf peeping season is just around the corner and it offer a close base camp for exceptional hiking oppourtunities! The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and charming. The breakfast was outstanding. The Inn is very charming with all the amenities one needs while traveling. The Inn keepers/owners have done a wonderful job maintaining this beautiful old house. I will definitely return...........Janice

We've been staying at Trail's End for a few decades now, and have never once been disappointed. Keene Valley is a gorgeous location, and the tranquil, beautiful setting of the Inn is matched only by the quaint Inn itself. I'm not a morning person, but I can't get up early enough for their breakfast!

This B&B is a relaxed, comfortable, clean, and functional place. The owners are clearly attentive to the needs of guests, but are not intrusive or even visible, unless you seek them out. Trails End is like coming home; there is a kitchentte for common use, freshly baked cookies every day (!), and many room options. Even if you get a bed with a shared bath, there are enough bathrooms around the Inn that you never cannot find one. The breakfasts are legendary; homemade french toast, scones, and bacon were on the menu one day; there's cereal if you prefer, and fruit, juice and coffee / tea. The rooms are rustic, but clean and comfortable; and the sleeping porched offer extra sleep space that is cool and unusual. You can walk into Keene Valley to eat at a local restaurant or diner; all in all, a great value and a welcome space after a long hike.

The cottage was in a great location and had a very nice set up. It took a few trips to get use to the spiral staircase that took you from the 2nd level to the first, but otherwise it was a great place to use for your adventure in Adirondacks of New York. The "Dining Score" is misleading as this cottage had a full kitchen and food was not part of the package. But the system requires a response.

We arrived late and were met by Susan who calmly and efficiently assisted our efforts to contact the Mountain View lodge where we were going to celebrate a birthday. Slept well. Sharing the bathroom was really easy. Breakfast was delicious. Thanks for everything. Coxey Toogood

This is a low-key, informal, friendly place--not a hotel. This is not a complaint, just an observation that it is not an ultra-modern hotel. It is a somewhat rustic place, and exactly what we were hoping for. Show up at 1:00 and ask if we can check in early? Why not?--your room's already been cleaned. Trails End is made for hikers but we loved the place, although we were not in the area for hiking. Breakfast was homemade and outstanding.

We have been coming to Trails End for years and continue to find it to be a great place to relax. The setting is perfect for spending a day reading, and the location is great for fast access to some of the best hikes in the High Peaks.

My family and I have been coming to the Trails End Inn for many years and every time we return we like it more. For our family, the Adirondacks are synonymous with the Trails End Inn and we hope to continue our family traditions there for years to come. The Inn and the staff are low-key and the atmosphere is both comfortable and welcoming. The breakfasts are also amazing and put you in the mood for a full day of hiking! I have been staying at the Trails End Inn for over a decade. It is an outstanding B&B. The daily breakfast is excellent and always something different. The afternoon cookies are an extra bonus. The rooms are comfortable and you have a choice of a room with shared bathroom (cheaper), room with bath (more expensive), room with whirlpool bath (more expensive), and suites or cottage (most expensive). Rooms book fast so do not wait until the last minute to try to get a room expecially around holiday weekends. The Trail's End Inn is truly an Adirondak delight.

If you're looking for a comfortable, relaxing place to stay in the heart of the High Peaks, I recommend this inn. We've stayed at Trails End a number of times and it always feels like home when we return. The food is excellent, with abundant breakfasts and home-baked cookies, muffins and scones. Susan and Dave are thoughtful, unobtrusive hosts and their staff are lovely. Our family already looks forward to our next visit!

Great people, great rooms, AWESOME vegan breakfast for my husband and I!!! We were able to hike all day right from trail heads that start at the Inn! Updates in the room were a nice touch too, including DVD player and alarm clock.

We had an enjoyable stay. The inn and grounds were beautiful. Everyone that works at the inn were friendly and accomodating. The other guests were also pleasant. The breakfast was impressive and delicious. The inn is in a great location. It is close to several trail heads for some absolutely gorgeous day hikes and just a short drive from Lake Placid. We will definitely stay at Trails End again!

We love staying in this cottage when we visit Keene. It is a lovely place and very cozy! Close to everything! We can even bring our dog!

A truly outstanding Inn. The rooms were very clean and well furnished and the breakfast was simply superb. Very nourishing and filling, which set us up for the day. the inn is lovely and clean and cheerful- my only suggestion is to offer two cooked breakfast choices instead of one- we had a lovely stay!

We stayed at Cascade cottage and had a great experience. Since we had the cottage I we did not use the dining, but would believe it to be either 4 or 5 star. I would definitely stay at either the Inn or one of their cottages when we vacation in the area again.

My husband and I had a totally enjoyable time at the Inn. We are hoping to return many times and at different seasons. We know we will be happy there at any time of the year. The location is perfect for enjoying all that the area has to offer . We felt at home immediately.

We've enjoyed Trails End Inn for many years and we look forward to our summer and our fall visit each year. It is the most comfortable, quiet, well-kept, friendly place I have ever experienced. After a full day of hiking, a warm shower and comfortable bed ( and great cookies by the fireplace) and the best sleep to be had is the reward. Susan and Dave give their attention to every detail and make us, and each of their customers, so welcome.

We have stayed at Trails End Inn a number of times, and could not be happier with the whole package. Keene Valley is a beautiful area for hiking, fishing, all sorts of outdoor activity. We usually stay once a year, as we make frequent trips to Lake Placid, and just up to the Adirondacks for day hikes and outings. They have a unique arrangement, you can pretty much come and go as you please, there is little to get in the way of an enjoyable stay. The room we stayed in this time was Gothic, a beautiful room at the back of the Inn with a jacuzzi tub - very spacious. The breakfast was excellent - egg fritata with home fries, a nice bowl of fruit to start. The staff is friendly, and basically leave you to yourself. We enjoy sitting out on the front porch to relax and read the paper. Also, if you are up for a hike and dont want to go too far, you can walk out to Beaver Pond and Hike Rooster Coomb - just out the front door. We love Trails End Inn and plan to stay again next time we are up for an overnight.

We love everything about the Inn - but especially the sleeping porches! The sleeping porches are ideal for families like ours - and sleeping on the porch brings the best night sleep ever. Pure heaven!

The room/bathroom/inn common areas (e.g., the front porch) were great. The food served for breakfast was outstanding. The self-check in and check out service is nice, but it does feel a little strange and it would've been nice to have at least a little interaction with the Inn's proprietors or staff.

I woke up in the morning after an entire night of unbroken sleep, sprawled in a king sized bed, had a hot and delicious breakfast brought to me in bed on a tray, and then slept in even more. I haven't been so relaxed in over a year. My mom couldn't have gotten us a better gift for our first mother's day and father's day. I will never forget it. The Trail's End Inn is a special place.

We felt welcome, everything exceeded our expectations, but outstanding was the lovely location, tucked between the mountains on a large green lot. We did not have dinner, but breakfast was delightful in the lovely dining room. Lovely touch: the area where hikers could shower and hang their packs after checkout, the sleeping porches, cookies in the afternoon and assortment of coffees and teas (honour system). Perfect place to stay as a couple, super quiet & it felt like being home. I would recommend this Inn to anyone who travels to the Adirondacks for the weekend or week. Staff was very nice in a genuine way. The whole place was very well kept.

I've stayed at Trail's End a few times and have been rewarded every time with lovely service. Spotlessly clean, quiet, peaceful, comfortable. Everything I'm looking for in a B & B. Breakfasts are excellent and the nighttime cookies a perfect and nicely done treat. I will return, without a doubt.

As always, Sue and Dave are great hosts. It is especially great that we were able to bring our dog Glinda with us. We love Keene Valley and Sue and Dave make us feel very much at home.

Great breakfasts with ample food. Lots of areas to lounge around in and several fireplaces to warm up by. The owners are always just a doorbell ring away to help answer any questions.

Nice cottage with convenient access situated on a private road with no thru traffic. Cosy fireplace, the only default is that there is a constant draft of cold air and make sure you bring your slippers. Lot's of room upstairs but bring earplugs and make sure you don't cook smelly dinners because of the open space between the kitchen and the bedrooms except for the master's bedroom.

Good place to stay when you plan day hikes. The Cascade cottage is really close from the Blueberry. The master bedroom exceeded our expectations, with a private view on a small waterfall in the backyard. Definitively a good value for the price.

The room was nice, clean and I got a great nights sleep. The house is very clean and well kept. The food was wonderful and service was very good. The staff were friendly and helpful. I will be going back there. I highly recommend this B&B.

We come back to the same house every year. The place is simple and charming. Perfect for a winter weekend. Dave & Susan are a pleasure and very accomodating.

We loved the entire ambiance of the Inn, right from the self-check-in to our departure 2 days later. We stayed in the Allen Room, complete with a deep claw foot tub. The entire Inn is so well-fitted for those who come to the Adirondacks to hike, snow shoe, paddle, ski...... It felt as if the entire first floor was ours to use and benefit from. Breakfast each morning was delicious and the coffee smooth. We plan on returning to the Trails End Inn soon, such a great value, and the location is perfect!

Great place for hiking, and right next to the trail to Rooster Comb (no need for driving to them). The B&B is somewhat "do it yourself" (DIY), in that you rarely see anyone who works there. They're available, though, and have a good selection of hiking books for sale (and I think in a library). Great food options in the area too (they have a book, with guest comments on food).

Trails End Inn looks like an old house from the outside. Inside is newly renovated, painted, and modern with a rustic look. It is well cared for, and one of the cleanest B&Bs I've ever stayed in. The breakfast was great every day, and the other guests were sociable. One of the greatest testaments to this being a great inn is that nearly all of the people we met were repeat return guests. I plan on being one as well.

We love the Trails End Inn. It is located in the High Peaks and allows easy access to all of the great spots in the Adirondacks. The hosts and staff are magically ubiquitous and unobtrusive (how do they do that?). The breakfasts are luscious and the many extra little touches (the plate of cookies at 4:00 p.m. and the $0.50 sodas in the fridge and the post-check-out showers for hikers) make it all so comfortable and enjoyable.

It’s a nice comfortable inn in a great area. We especially enjoyed building a fire and keeping warm by the wood burning stove in the living area.

We had a very relaxing stay. The Inn is really beautiful and tranquil and the breakfasts were delicious! We were very happy to bring our business back to Keene Valley after Hurricane Irene.

Trail's end proved to be exactly what we were looking for. It was a quite, private location with excellent access to the Rooster trail and much more. The breakfast was fabulous and the large rooms are great.

Stayed in one of the Inn's cottages on the Ausable River in Keene and it was very enjoyable and a very good value. Well kept premises, attentive owners and a great setting.

We have stayed at Trails End numerous times and every time have a wonderful stay. This was even more amazing as we got engaged by a roaring fire in the living room. This is an amazing bed and breakfast with a great staff and OMG Susan makes me a special gluten free meal that is out of this world.

Great little inn surrounded by many beautiful hiking trails. My boyfriend and I stayed for the weekend and hiked both Saturday and Sunday. One trail was within walking distance of the inn and the other was a 3 minute drive down the road. Breakfast was awesome. The room (The Jay Room) wasn't as cozy as I had expected, but the bed was super comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. Lake Placid is a 25 minute drive from the inn which is a great place to have dinner or walk around. All-in-all a great weekend. I would definitely recommend this cute little B&B.

We love the Trail's End Inn because they have thought of everything to make your stay easy, relaxed and convenient. The atmosphere and location are perfect for us. The ability to shower and freshen up after you have hiked all day but have already checked out is perfect for us. Delicious food, nice rooms.

It's funky, but not helpful, that no one mans a front desk at any time, apparently, neither at check-in nor at check-out. That's more of an inconvenience than a debility, but it would be nice to have someone of whom to make basic travel inquiries, such as "Where are the good places to dine in these parts?" and "Where might we find additional blankets?" etc. Still, it's a lovely place, efficiently operated, splendidly appointed, and very, very clean.

We don’t “man a front desk” simply because we have a lot of tasks to do and for the most part our guests prefer to enjoy the Inn the way it is. We are often in and about the common areas of the Inn, but not or a set schedule. We have several signs that tell our guest that if they have questions, they can ring the front door bell and that will alert us to come out front, or the guests can phone us from their rooms (which they do on occasion). Most of our guest like the fact that there is no formal “check-in” procedure and if a guest want to check-out in the morning, we and our staff are always around, especially during breakfast. Again we make it as easy as we can for our guests so if they want to just leave without having to check-out, they can. And not only do we have a book with local restaurant menus and reviews by our guests, we happily make recommendations all the time, but you do have to ask, which most guests are able to do, sorry no concierge desk.

We've visited the Trails End Inn over the years and enjoy returning. A great place to spend some time.

Stayed here one weekend in October. Great to have fireplace and jacuzzi tub in room. Delicious breakfast and great location!!! Would stay here again for sure.

This is my go to place to stay in the High Peaks when I decide to spend a little more and skip the hostel or the lean-to. Everything is clean, the rooms are beautiful, the food is fantastic and the porch is probably the best place to relax with a good book and sip on your favorite drink. Simply wonderful, I highly recommend it.

This is, by far, the most perfect place to stay for serious hikers as well as mellow leaf-peekers. Its rustic in a most comfortable way, beautiful and peaceful. We've been staying here twice a year for the past 8 years and will continue. Its a most perfect vacation!

We first stumbled upon the Trail's End Inn online in 2010 and stayed there last August. After a fantastic trip, we decided to return in 2011 in late September. There was no question that we would stay at the Trail's End again...we just had to decide which room to stay in! Due to a sudden family death, we had to change our plans at the last minute, but Susan and Dave were terrific and very accommodating. We pushed our trip back by 2 days and just had to change rooms for our last night. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay again and hope to return again next year. The location is ideal right in the heart of the High Peaks region, the breakfasts are fantastic and the rooms are clean and comfortable. I can't wait to go back! It is an absolutely lovely retreat.

We had a lovely time here. With a location right off the trail, this place welcomed us warmly after several days camping and hiking in the Adirondacks. We arrived in the afternoon, checked ourselves in, showed ourselves to our room and enjoyed the jacuzzi tub and the fireplace very much. A quick walk around showed charming and individual guest rooms. Breakfast the next morning was delightful and so were Dave and Susan. We look forward to returning every year!

Needing a place to stay while attending a memorial service, Trail's End supplied a quiet and beautiful place that made our trip unexpectedly and pleasantly memorable in itself - a very comfortable "Adirondack experience."

Cascade Cottage was large, comfortable and lovely. It was a pleasant surprise to not have to run out and purchase immediate kitchen supplies. A new in the wrapper sponge, dish, dishwasher detergent and charcoal made us feel welcome. The location and beauty of the area are outstanding and made our hiking vacation perfect. We will be back!

Inn was most comfortable and low key, with a mix of hikers, vacationers, get-awayers all enjoying the Adirondacks atmosphere. We'll return for sure!

Trail's End was very cozy and comfortable. My wife and really enjoyed the overal feel of the lodge - it felt like a home away from home. The room was very clean, and it was nice to be able to light a fire in the fireplace at night. We would definitely come back! It is only a few mintues from several hiking trails, and from the community of Lake Placid.

We stayed at the Trails End Inn, and it was GREAT! We especially appreciated the screened sleeping porch our room had, it brought in the sounds of the forest. Very convenient to some great day hiking too. Susan made us real nice bag lunches to take with us....mine helped me scale Mount Marcy, the tallest peak in New York, and no small task for me! I don't normally rave about a breakfast, but 2 of our 4 mornings there they served an egg dish that I am still savoring a couple of weeks later.....mmmmmmm good.

We,ve been coming to the ADK's for 18 years and we have stayed at Trails End for all but one of those years. This is where you want to come for the outdoor experience. The inn is simple, picturesque, very clean, and rustic. Hikers and climbers come here as well as families with lots of kids. It's a great place to meet with others and talk about the best hikes or to just reat on the expansive front porch and read a book. The sleeping porches are the best part of staying here. They are wonderful on a hot night or a great place to put the kids. We travel with our dog now and we stay in one of newer, pet friendly apts on the back of the inn. Dave and Susan are friendly and helpful but they are not intrusive. In fact you might not even see them unless you go back into the kitchen. This is an inn where you are on your own not the Lake Placid Club, and we would have it no other way.

Unfortunately, we just popped in for a quick hike to Marcy & Haystack from the Garden. We have stayed in one of the cottages before, which was excellent, but never at the Inn directly. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. My teenage son and his friend slept out on the attached porch which was quite spacious. We arrived around 10pm and departed around 5am. As we were unloading, we were captivated by an amazing night sky. We arrived on the evening of 8/4, which is early for the Perseids, but they were blazing across the sky regardless. My 17 year old son laid down in the grass and said "I could just stay here all night". After witnessing a dozen meteors or so in 10 minutes, we finished unloading. As I prepared our packs, my son and his friend engaged in a game of chess in the game room - which was perfect for quiet hours. We departed before breakfast so I can't rate the prepared food, but the kitchen facilities that were available let us prepare our own breakfast without disturbing anyone. Although our stay was quick, we are already planning on coming back next year to more fully enjoy the Inn, take in more of the meteor show, and relax a little. If you are planning on heading to Keene Valley, this is an excellent choice. Great access to all the trailheads in the Valley. Quiet, private location.

My husband and I went to Lake Placid for a wedding in July and booked this Inn. We thought it was much closer to Lake Placid, it took us 30 mins. to get there. Anyway, the Inn is just wonderful, very clean, staff is most helpful and pleasant. breakfast was great and coffee/tea are at your convenience 24 hrs a day. Be prepared no a/c in room, fortunately, a cool front came thru and the temps were perfect! I would recommend this Inn to anyone who would like a low key, no frills, earthy lodging and close to hiking trails. We had a memorable stay.

This is a wonderful place to stay if you like to hike and relax afterwards. Several trailheads are within walking distance of the inn. It is clean, comfortable, quiet, and ideally located - you can also walk into the town of Keene Valley (the Noonmark Diner is a good place to eat, and the town library is a nice little place to visit). The breakfasts served at the inn are delicious and filling, and the innkeepers are friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

The Trails End Inn is an ideal place to stay for Ironman participants & visitors wishing to avoid the athlete frenzy in Lake Placid. Rooms are reasonably priced and very clean, there are good restaurants and a grocery store within walking distance, and the Inn is very quiet. There are also nice trail systems surrounding the property. The breakfasts are very good. We'll definitely be visiting again.

Trails End was a very pleasant place to stay. I was traveling with my husband, daughter, and son-in-law. We stayed in the Adirondack Cabin - it was nicely furnished with everything you need to have a comfortable stay (great for a family of 4). Lake Placid was about a 20 minute drive away which made it very convenient to drive to for dinner. I recommend Trails End - you won't be disappointed.

I have stayed at The Trails End 5 times!! The rooms are cozy and clean. It's quiet, even when full. We've stayed at the Inn and at Blueberry Cottage. I highly recommend this property. This ADK lodge provides an affordable vacation that will knock your boots and socks off!

We've been going to Trail's End for at least twelve years, and were married there. We've seen it through a few owners, and the current ones, Dave and Susan, had managed to keep things familiar while adding some welcome extras, like cookies in the afternoon and umbrellas to borrow. They're unobtrusive, but there if you need them. The breakfasts are great, and the rooms are simple-- no TV or jacuzzi-- but perfect after a long day's hike. There are also some wonderful common spaces, including a game-room, and a porch with enough chairs for guests to linger. We'll be back, again and again.

We spent several days this Summer in one of the Trail's End Inn suites. The Inn is beautiful and has a great mountain lodge feel, abundant with thick-cut wood slab furnishings. Our room was cozy and quiet and the bed was huge and comfortable. Our breakfasts were vegan by request and absolutely delicious! The breakfast room is large and open with a fireplace at one end which I imagine is amazing to eat by in the Winter. Keene Valley is a great hub for hiking the High Peaks so we spent most of our time on the trails but enjoyed relaxing hours reading on the Inn's porch and playing games in the game room, which includes a giant table chess set and a sky-high stack of board games. I recommend Trail's End Inn to anyone that likes comfort, delicious breakfasts and pleasant interactions with friendly humans.

I had driven past the Trails End Inn sign on many trips in the Adirondacks and decided to give it a try this time. I stayed with my 2 teenage sons who loved the sleeping porch. We expected the place to be a bit more rough around the edges. My boys described it as upscale and we were all impressed by the cleanliness, high level of maintenance and nice public spaces. Of course the boys liked the wi fi and available dvd player. Can't keep them in the woods all the time!

The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfast, with choice of freshly cut fruit and a yummy egg dish with homemade sausage, was excellent!

I could not have designed a better inn nor a better location if I tried! In little Keene Valley - but 1/3rd down a dirt lane, off the main road. A huge front porch with an Adirondack chair for every mood and preference you might have; seamless, invisible management; homemade cookies resting on the trail books and soft classical music in the airy breakfast room - large enough to afford you privacy and quiet while you slurp your coffee or tea! The innkeepers even offer a mudroom with extra bathroom and shower, which visitors are welcome to come back and use AFTER checking out (clean off the trail mud before driving home). Thoughtful place.

One of the great things about Trails End Inn is how hiker-friendly they are. They have a book where you can leave your hiking itinerary so that they can alert the DEC Rangers if you are not back by the time you specify. And, if you end up hiking the day you check out, there are shower / changing facilities you can use afterwards. Plus, ice packs in the freezer for those sore feet and knees. Within walking distance of several trailheads. Beyond this, they went out of their way to meet my dietary restrictions, and the stay was pleasant all around. I definitely plan to return.

This was the 2nd time I've stayed here. It is very convenient if you want to hike any of the high peaks out of Keane. It's very quiet and lovely.

So, Who doesn't have free long distance anymore? They have internet but not Vontage and cell phones don't work in Keen Valley. I am a single mother and I always leave a number for my children but Trails End doesn't accept incoming calls for their guest and I haven't had a calling card in years. The staff acted like they were doing us a favor for allowing us to stay in their very outdated bed and breakfast. I named Susan, Miss Friendly. I like eggs in the am and all they served is waffles and pancakes. UCK As for the price, I stayed in a 4 star on Unoin Square in Ca for 100 per night and our room with a bath and sitting area was 150. I hope to never see this place again

This person was not only incorrect, but rude. First, we are not the phone company so we have no control over where cell phones work, or don’t work. On the confirmation all guests receive it states in al capital and bold lettering that if they want to make a long distance call, they need a phone card. Also, we do accept incoming calls – this reviewer has no reason to make false statements, but she did. We get nothing but complements about our friendly staff, (just read the other reviews to confirm this) so again this person has misstated our facility. “Outdated”, we have no clue what that means. The review claims that all we serve are waffles and pancakes, again not true. “UCK” is just rude, but in keeping with this person’s general demeanor. We serve an egg dish one morning and a bread dish the next. I think she should stay at Union Square in the future.

We had the pleasure of staying two nights this past weekend to attend a wedding. We stayed in the Jay Room. It was very clean and well kept. The food was also delicious. I highly recommend Trails End Inn to anyone visiting the area. Keene Valley is a very beautiful area.

We keep coming back to this warm, welcoming gem in the Adirondack High Peaks. Dave, Susan and staff see to all the little details that make a stay something special- a note welcoming us back, tips about trail conditions or a nice walk on a rainy day, fresh cookies out for a snack. The rooms are beautifully appointed with antique quilts and big thick towels in the bathroom. The breakfasts are delicious. We come back as often as we can.

This would make my 6th stay at the Trails End B&B! Dave & Susan are wonderful hosts! The rooms are spacious, with the charm of an old home. I have had the opportunity to stay here several times and have always enjoyed my stays. The rooms are warm, the beds are comfortable, and the owners are nothing but friendly. There is always a plate of cookies sitting on the table just as you walk in, and breakfast is always a delicious affair. It starts with fresh baked scones or muffins and fruit, and follows with the breakfast of the day, ranging from egg souffles to french toast and pancakes, all of which are delicious. The inn itself is tucked back well off the road in Keene Valley, NY, far enough away from the lights so you can really see the stars. It has a rustic mountain cabin feel while still maintaining the comforts of the modern world (yes, there is wireless internet). Each room is unique and has it's own charm, and some can accommodate an entire family. It is a great springboard to adventure in the Adirondacks, and I can't wait until I can come back. -CM, New Jersey

Wonderful Inn hidden away on a dirt road. Very comfortable, clean and peaceful. We would certainly stay again and have already recommended to friends.

We stayed here one night because we wanted an early start for a back country ski. It was perfect for that except we were up and out before the cooked breakfast is offered at 7:30 AM. But the hosts put out a very nice cold breakfast for our early start. Very well maintained and comfortable inn. We really didn't meet the owners nor require service so can't fairly rate service. They offer a nice variety of room arrangements at appropriate costs. I would recommend this palace to any one and would stay here again.

Excellent made to order breakfasts, friendly and helpful staff, the best value in the High Peaks region. The available shower for the ride home after hiking (and after checking out) is a great bonus. We've been going there for a few years and it just keeps getting better each time.

Beautiful and comfortable cottage, with full kitchen and wood-burning fireplace. Idyllic for winter getaway. Close to Lake Placid, with Whiteface and other opportunities for Alpine Skiing - but also lots of options for snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, and lovely walks by the frozen, picturesque, babbling brook right outside the porch. Highly recommend.

The Inn is run by invisible fairies. You find the room list with your name on it, follow the directions to the room. Wi-Fi in the room was very spotty and weak (Skylight Room). Could not find the password to wi-fi anywhere in the room. Went back to the front desk (nobody there of course). Looked around found nothing. With the owner clearly not wanting to be bothered, at 9 pm I reluctantly decided to use the intercom (note at desk explained that it was next to the podium). No intercom was found. Went to the front door to ring bell. 5 minutes later a burly, unshaven, unsmiling figure appeared wearing slippers, socks and an open bathrobe revealing a t-shirs and boxer shorts. I apologized for disturbing him and asked where I could find the wi-fi password. Without a single word he made his way through chairs and tablet to a corner of one of the downstairs public rooms to a desktop computer. He then pointed to a a paper in an upright plastic menu holder. On it was the stream of 20 random letters and numbers which I transcribed in semidarkness to my laptop and got on line. When I turned around to thank him he was gone. Friendly huh? Breakfast was great and served by unexpectedly friendly waitress.

“Invisible fairies” Really! I think she must write fiction for a living. Being one of the “head fairies” here I’ll try and sprinkle a little reality into these comments. We do have a “self-check-in” system and we have a BIG sign on the front door that explains the system and says IF YOU NEED HELP, RING THE BELL. (In order to give our guests the most flexibility, we don’t have a set time to check-in, therefore guests arrive at all hours, so we don’t “camp out” in the entry area.) They did find the room unassisted. (Later that evening she was able to read the sign and ring the bell when she could not find the wi-fi codes.) Didn’t bother to look around in the common areas, or ask for assistance. If she had done either, she would have discovered the guests’ computer, with the wi-fi codes in plain site on top of the computer. Rather, waited till after 10 PM (not 9 PM) to go to the front door, read the sign and ring the bell. The sign also asks that the bell not be rung after 9 PM, except in an emergency (the fairies get up at 5 to make breakfast from scratch so we go to bed early). It was after 10 PM, I was asleep in bed. Rarely does a guest ring the bell except in an emergency. So I threw on my robe (which was closed) and went out. Since I assumed it was an emergency, it took maybe two minutes to get there. I did talk to her and showed her the computer and the wi-fi codes. Yes, I was “unshaven” (being up since 5 AM, by 10 PM I’m “unshaven”. The only reason she would comment on my attire and “unshaveness” is trying to belittle me. I find that quite offensive.) I didn’t stay and chat, I was tired and not impressed with the fact that she waited till so late to contact us for something that could have been found on her own if she had only looked. There is a lamp next to the computer. You need to turn it on for the light to come on. We use an ipad in the room directly below the room the reviewer had and our reception is fine, maybe the fault is the laptop.

The Trails End B&B was wonderful. Clean, quiet, great food, great location for us. We will return someday.

This is the place I've been dreaming about for years to return to after a day of hiking or cross-country skiing. Lots of cozy furniture to relax on with a good book. A roaring fireplace. An amazing breakfast. Even a plate of delicious cookies in the afternoon. Beautifully situated in the absolutely charming town of Keene Valley.

Trails end is a gem. Great Breakfast, wonderful room and dog friendly. Nice little touches, popcorn, coffee and cookies... We never had such a great time at a B and B. Much better than staying in a hotel in Lake Placid. Darcy dog gave it two paws up.

We stayed at Cascade Cottage and therefore did not have the service nor dining provided....it was a lovely weekend and the setting was very comfortable.

Have stayed in a variety of the accommodations available at Trails End and they are all outstanding. The views, surroundings, service and food are like a dream come true. It's like heaven in the Adirondacks!

Every other year we come to Keene Valley in the winter to snowshoe. The last 4 times we have stayed at Trails End Inn. It is a wonderful place and I highly recommend it. We'll be back in 2 years.

It doesn't get any more relaxing than having a fireplace in your room and, the double jacuzzi is wonderful! (The only bummer is having to hit the "jet" button every couple of minutes). Great staff & welcoming atmosphere, the location is excellent as well!

This was our second stay at the Inn and we will surely return again and again. We really like the self check-in. You know that the Inn keepers are around if you need them, but you have privacy and quiet - which we enjoy. The ros are rustic/quaint and very clean. The breakfasts are perfect and the fact thy they will cater to food allergies is impressive. Great stay.

Impeccably clean, outstanding staff, great breakfasts, and a lot of nice details like 50 cent keurig coffees, sodas, waters, and small food prep/fridge area for guests to use, access to showers/bath all day after you check out - a very well managed operation.

Clean, spacious rooms. Nice common areas - plenty of space to read a book or chill out by the fire. Excellent breakfasts! The kitchen facilties for guests are a huge plus, especially if one is tired from a long day of skiing or hiking and doesn't feel like going out for a meal. The wireless Internet connection is super-quick. Overall - a good choice for those seeking a quiet get-away or a solid base of operations for outdoor activities.

My girlfriend and I spent two nights in the Gothics Room....Fireplece and Hot Tub. The fireplace was awesome...the hot tub could have been a little bigger to accommodate two people. The onle real issue was breakfast selections... uh there wasn't any. One morning we had Blackberry/Apple Puff pancakes and the next was corn Frittars? Instant oatmeal? You know a choice of eggs/pancakes/Quakers oatmeal would have been nice. My girlfriend wasn't fond of the breakfasts. And...as owners of a B&B you would think they would be more personnable....But for the money a good value.

Our breakfasts are all home made, from scratch from the sour cream muffins to the breakfast sausage. Susan varies the menu from day to day from an egg dish to a bread dish. Because we serve up to 30 to 40 guests for breakfast we can't offer a choice of items for the main dish, we aren't a restuarant. Unfortunately we can't please all of the guests, we try. We do accommondate special requests/dietary restrictions when informed in advanced. We don't understand the "more personnable" remark. We don't hovered over our guests and most of our guests prefer our nonintrusive approach to their vacation time.

I have stayed in all the B&B's in Keene Valley and trails end several times, but prior to the current management. Three things stand out to me: first the staff are pleasant, helpful, and competent; second, the sign out sheet for hikers is brilliant, as it provides those of us who hike alone with some comfort of follow up; third, the food is excellent, in fact noteworthy Richard Reeves-Ellington

Susan is an excellent cook. She is very well organized and tries to be as flexible as possible to accomodate all requests; lots of great info, a comfortable lounge, great kitchenette with fridge and micro, plus a nice area to shower and change (after checkout) if desired; thoughtful, well organized and professional owners.

trail's end is a quaint, old inn, just a bit off the main road to the beautiful high peaks area of the adirondacks. it's very cozy, comfortable, well-maintained, clean, and convenient to both outdoor and indoor activities. the breakfasts are delicious, too. we'll definitely be returning!

We spent the night at the Trails End Inn for our first hike of the 46 High Peaks. The Inn was fabulous, the staff friendly and attentive, and the room was wonderful. We will definitely return.

We've been coming to Trails End Inn in beautiful Keene Valley for years. Almost always, its simply an overnight getaway for me and my husband. We enjoy a beautiful room, with a fireplace, jacuzzi and king sized bed, peace and quiet, and a scrumptious breakfast the next morning. We're usually not ambitious enough to hike, but if we were, the Inn provides great trail guides and packed lunches. We love TEI!!!

I recently stayed at the Trail's End Inn's Cascade cottage and had such a fabulous experience that I am literally finding myself dreaming about going back, sitting by the fireplace, sipping wine after a tough day of hiking. That's exactly what our group did this weekend. We drove up from New York City which was quite a trek, hiked 13 miles on Saturday (nearly to Gothics but didn't quite make it due to snow and ice) and then returned for a lovely dinner and fire. It was so relaxing and beautiful in the village of Keene and the cottage was so cozy and well-equipped that we didn't want to leave. There are only a few recommendations I would make: 1) The map to the cottage should be more clear. We found ourselves lost once we got into town because we weren't aware that the cottage was so far from the inn - we thought it was going to be on a side road from the inn, not miles away. 2) There should be a hot-tub at the cottage - that would REALLY up the ante of the offerings. Otherwise, I wouldn't change a thing! Thank you Trail's End Inn - I can't wait to come back next summer!

This was our fourth stay at the Trails End this year. We travel to the Adirondacks a lot and stumbled upon this gem when needing a place to stay near Lake Placid for an athletic event in early June. It is a great place to use as a base for hiking the High Peaks (with great amenities) or for day-tripping in the Lake Placid-High Peaks area. The breakfasts are to die for!
