A Different Experience

It was interesting staying in this house that dates back to the 1840s. The suite was very spacious and provided comfortable accommodations for five adults. (My husband and I have two grown children). The only complaint we had was that having only one key for five adults who wanted to go off in different directions was difficult, and we ran out of toilet paper.

We were very pleased with accommodations and would definitely stay here again.
Comfortable, spacious, accommodating guest house

I hoped for affordable accommodations within walking distance of the Amtrak station and Hudson's business district for a 1.5-day stay in Hudson. The Union Street Guest House was terrific on all counts. Making a reservation in advance was efficient; the building and suite were easy to find; and my suite was charmingly furnished and comfortable down to the smallest detail. I appreciated the fresh ground coffee, interesting loose teas, and everything I needed to make them upon my arrival after a long train trip. Check-in and check-out were easily accomplished even though I never met the proprietor, and I also liked having restaurant recommendations and books about local history. In short, I loved my stay and would return at the earliest opportunity.
Great if you are self-sufficient

This was our 2nd stay at USGH. We were greeted with a note and a key directing us to our room. Our room was exactly what we had hoped for - 3 bedrooms, living room, kitchen, darling sun porch, etc. The reality was there was one bathroom and the hot water situation made it that we had to time our baths - one in the morning, one in the afternoon, one in the evening. The hot water ran out.
What USGH is lacking is personal contact. We made contact with the on-site guy Dan on the second day and only after I had called him the previous day (he has a full time job and the owner was not around). There was no maid service and when I asked Dan he said normally if you stay 2 days they don't clean. I told him we were staying 3 days and in that case he would make a call and see if someone could clean our room. We wanted them to replace our ripped towels and make our bed that had ripped sheets. My big gripe would be that there should be more on-the-premises contact. The place in CHARMING with a capital C but the prices are not cheap, so a little more service would be nice.
Lovely spot for a weekend getaway

I was discouraged by some of the reviews for the Union Street Guest House, but when I arrived I was more than happy with what I got for my money. If you're looking for a classic bed & breakfast experience this place is not for you. After you check in, you will likely not come into contact with another soul until you drop your key off at checkout. But if you're looking for a great accommodation in an ideal location for a really good price and you don't mind having to leave to get food, than the Union Street Guest House is perfect. Honestly, I prefer to have my own space and not be disturbed by other guests or an inn keeper trying to feed me breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hudson is filled with great restaurants and I was happy to try them out instead of staying in the hotel. But when we DID stay in my room, we had wireless internet, tons of cable stations and a nicely functioning central heat that allowed us to control our own temp and stay cozy.
We stayed in the Bainbridge Suite. So it might not be the same for the other suites, but it was perfect a trip with some friends. The 2 bedrooms were great and each room has it's own TV. The wireless internet was quite spotty. I'd say that was my only complaint. But otherwise, I'd give Union Street 4 out of 5 stars overall. But 5 stars for value. We loved it. Thanks!
Charming and Comfortable

My wife and I stayed in the Library Suite for our anniversary. The suite was spacious, comfortable, and had lots of charm. Perfect spot for those who want something a bit different from the norm.
New Year's Eve visit

The location was beautiful, however, there was no one there to welcome us/check us in/help us with our bags when we checked in. Or during our one night stay. Or the next morning as we were leaving. Very strange. We just left our keys and picked up our keys at the front desk. Fine, maybe they were giving us our privacy? We wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt.
The suite was freezing cold--the bedrooms were fine, but the living area was incredibly cold. Keep in mind this is December 31 in upstate New York. When we arrived there were throw pillows stuffed around the window air conditioning unit to block out the draft. That's something you don't often see in an expensive bed and breakfast (though they were very very clear on the fact that this was not a bed and breakfast even when I called before our arrival, no breakfast would be served). The suite itself was a mix of fancy and shabby. I was fine (ish) with the decor, but it reminded me too much of the ad hoc decorating and general shabbiness of hipster living in NYC--that's where we came from, I didn't really want to stay in a place that looked like my apartment on a NYE getaway.
Bottom line, this was FINE. That's it. We needed a suite to accommodate two couples with two toddlers and it did the job.
The coffee they left for us was extraordinary though, with nice L'Occitane toiletries. Unlike the selection of Wise chips left in the kitchen. Not kitschy, just gross.
