Notchland Inn

Notchland inn was a perfect weekend get away for my boyfriend and I last summer. We live and work in the city and really needed a break from the city life which gets old fast during the summer. Up at the notchland inn we found just that. We had a quiet clean and comfortable spacious room and the breakfast was delicious!! We then hiked to the top of Mt Crawford which was amazing. 360 degree spectacular views from the top! It was a weekend in July and the trail was not croudes at all! Les and Ed were wonderful and offered great recommendations about restaurants in the area as well as the best spots for hiking in the area. We had a great weekend and would recommend it to anyone looking for a very low key and simplistic weekend get away in the mountains.

The Inn is perched on a hill just off of Rte 302 with views of the mountains. It's a solid granite building, built in the 1800s, with a rich history. Our room was on the second floor, overlooking the road -- we weren't bothered by any road noise, but we are both deep sleepers and it was the off-season so traffic was very light. The house is perfectly appointed; the innkeepers seem to have thought of everything. The bed was comfortable and provided a great night's sleep. We loved having a fireplace in the room and enjoyed being able to play cards by the fire to relax after a day of hiking. Breakfast was awesome -- super tasty and you have made-to-order options ranging from eggs to oatmeal to pancakes. We managed to spend a little bit of time on the grounds, where you can find a small cemetery and a number of hikes. We took some time to enjoy a glass of wine while the sun set, whiling away the hour on the front lawn. Dinner was a great treat and very intimate. We came to Notchland to get away for a quiet, restorative weekend and that's exactly what we got. I felt that the innkeepers really care about their guests and truly want you to have a great and happily memorable experience. We can't wait to return for another restful, relaxing, restorative weekend.

A very beautiful inn with stunning grounds and exquisite food. Pricey but you get what you pay for. We are definitely going back!

Notchland Inn was great as usual. Incredible atmosphere. Ed, Les, Mark and staff were their typical friendly and attentive selves. We enjoyed wood fires every evening in our cottage fireplace. Crawford and Felonie visited us a few times and were always near by. The breakfasts were great, the hand delivered weather report a nice touch. Mark is always a wealth of local information and very helpful with planning the day. We have stayed at many B&B and Notchland is #1.

Notchland was terrific. The buildings and grounds are beautiful and the staff extremely friendly and knowledgeable about everything local. Very convenient to several ski resorts (Bretton Woods, Attitash, Wildcat, etc). Also key is that their cottages are dog friendly, so we were able to bring our lab along.

We had a fantastic stay and especially enjoyed the working fireplace in our room. Ed & Les were excellent hosts! We got some great suggestions for a local hike. Dinner was excellent and a fantastic value. We can't wait to visit again. Regards, Chris

This was our second time visiting the Notchland and we loved it just as much as in our first time! We stayed in the Zealand room and it was a good choice. I think Crawford takes it for better room, though. The innkeepers Ed and Les are really great and welcoming. I must say they have a beautiful home. Mark went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable. And Felony & Crawford (the two Bernese mountain dogs) make great company! My fiancée and I adore this place. We hope to make our retreat to Notchland an annual thing!

This was our first stay at the Notchland Inn and we can't wait to go back. The food was phenomenal, we had both breakfast and dinner during our stay. Love the working wood fireplace in the bedroom. We also got a great suggestion from the Innkeepers on where to go to cut down our Christmas tree for the holiday.

The cottage and its amenities exceeded our expectations - we never wanted to leave. The innkeepers went WAY out of their way to take care of us and to provide every service.

Once again, after several years away from staying at the Notchland Inn, it was a wonderful stay and loved being back to see Ed and Les and the wonderful Inn

Notchland inn is a treat my husband and I have enjoyed for over 15 years. It truly is "a magical location". Although the staff changes occasionally which may sometimes affect the difference exceeding and meeting expectation, it is always a quiet, fun , restorative weekend. Ed and Les, the innkeepers, have made the inn their live's work for 18 years, and it is evident in the improvements we see each time we visit. Their charm is equaled only by that of the beautiful Bernese mountain dogs who have lived at the inn over the years. We love the Notchland Inn!

The Willard cottage is fantastic! Everyone at the inn is so nice and helpful!!! Very friendly with great ideas for day trips/hikes. Love the dogs too!!!!

The dogs are friendly, lovable animals and an integral part of the whole experience. Dinner here is not to be missed, with great gourmet courses served with personal attention and elegance. Weddings could be magical here -- we stayed on our first married night, but missed the option to have a wedding until our other arrangements had been made. Thoughtful touches abound from the sitting room, to the soaking tub, in and throughout the experience at the Inn. Highly recommended!

What an amazing place to stay! The breakfasts and dinner was amazing. Ed and Les are dedicated to providing their guests with the best experience possible. They are very knowledgeable of the surrounding areas and make sure you are prepared for your day’s activities!

We have stayed in B&Bs when visiting New England over the last 20 years and Notchland was the best as far as setting, ambiance, and inn keepers. There are no TVs and no cell phone service (have to drive about 3 miles to get cell service). Our room was large with wood burning fireplace, very quaint. Great common areas. Breakfast was great, you could order as much or as little as you wanted. They offer a multi course dinner certain nights of the week. The setting is spectacular, as romantic and rustic as one could imagine. The food, however, was average, portions were small, which is probably good. The atmosphere, however, trumps the food and make sure you do the dinner at least one night. Overall, loved it, will be back, recommend it without hesitation.

The only problem with our stay at Notchland Inn was the fact that we weren't able to stay more than 2 nights! Peaceful, idyllic setting. EXCELLENT customer service from innkeepers and staff who really care. There are not enough superlatives to describe the food - simply outstanding. What an amazing experience the dinner was! We loved everything about Notchland Inn, and the wonderful memories of our visit will surely last forever.

Absolutely perfect in every way!! Amazing meals, wonderful rooms and more than accommodating innkeepers. Crawford and Felonie add the perfect touch!! We will be back!

My wife and I have stayed at Notchland Inn 6 times since 1997. We have stayed in five different rooms at the Inn. Each one reflected the warmth and richness of the Inn. A comfortable friendliness is exuded by the knowledgeable staff. As we drove home, we started planning for our next visit!

Beautiful weather and outstanding stargazing at night added to the pleasures of our brief midsummer visit. We will certainly return.

The cottage was wonderful -- much more comfortable and beautiful than the usual pet friendly lodging. Our hosts could not have been more welcoming and more helpful, with plentiful information about area hiking and dining and other activities. The multi course meals at night were delicious, and a tremendous value.

Everything about our stay was exceptional - the staff was superb, very sensitive to all our needs.

We just spent two nights at the Notchland..how nice to get away from TV and phones for a few days..innkeepers are very gracious, the two dogs - Felonie and Crawford are so lovable, they add to the cozy homey feeling of this inn. The inn is beautiful, and so relaxing...

Ed, Les, and staff were accommodating and at our service from the moment we stepped in the door. The Notchland Inn is a home away from home, minus the daily chores and responsibilities. Breakfasts can be custom tailored to each guest's tastes, and there is never a shortage of food. The 5 course dinner that we participated in on Wednesday night was excellent. Everything was cooked perfectly. The relaxed atmosphere of the inn really allowed us to take a vacation from all the worries and obligations of our everyday lives. We will definitely be returning.

The innkeepers were friendly with a great sense of humor. They were extremely helpful with ideas of "what to do" in the area. One of the best and most relaxing short vacations I've had in a long time. I highly recommend the Notchland Inn.

Our stay was wonderful. The inn was very clean and the innkeepers were very pleasant. It was probably one of the best inns that we have stayed in. My wife and I loved the 2 dogs on the grounds and it was very peaceful.

A wonderful place--beautiful and conveniently located! The hospitality was outstanding and the innkeepers were extremely helpful with suggestions for hikes, swimming and cycling. Breakfast was terrific and dinner was delicious and a great value. We will definitely be back if we are in the area.

After driving over 7 hours from New Jersey to the Notchland Inn, I couldn't have been happier. Ed showed me around and gave me a quick history lesson on the place, my room was cool - air conditioner running - and waiting for me. It was clear that whatever I needed, Ed would make sure I had. With a fireplace and a jacuzzi in my room and a private deck, I was in my own little paradise. The food was amazing - breakfast and dinner. And town and local hiking trails were very nearby and each morning, Les equipped me with a comprehensive weather report and suggestions of possible activities for the day. In addition to this, Crawford and Felonie, 2 large Burmese mountain dogs, added to the already warm atmosphere at the inn. Go the Notchland Inn. Ask for the Evans room (where I stayed). You will not be disappointed.

Notchland is a great spot. The experience was amazing!!! Definitely sign up for the dinner at the inn... And take advantage of the innkeepers expertise, the ammenities (hot tub!) and enjoy the stay!!! We had a great trip!

We've now stayed at the Inn twice and both visits were wonderful. As soon as you walk in the door you're greeted with warmth and kindness. I can't say enough good words about the staff of the Inn. They are truly there to accommodate you. They help you plan your days, give advice on the best places to hike, swim, canoe, and explore. More importantly, they make you feel at home. These people are one of the many reasons I love this place so much. The rooms are all very cozy and charming. Each with it's own fireplace. The suits are very spacious and perfect for a romantic getaway. One of our favorite rooms, the Kinsman, has a tub big enough for three people! We loved soaking, having a fire going, and drinking a glass of wine. It couldn't get any more relaxing or romantic than that. But of course, I can't forget the food. Dinners are a little expensive but well worth it! The chef's attention to detail and obvious care for the food he cooks really shows. Breakfast in the morning is just as wonderful. You have an array of choices and the option of mixing and matching many delicious breakfast items. There's at least four pancake flavors, 3 french toast flavors, breakfast meats, toast, english muffin (better get that grilled, it was my favorite!) and eggs just about any way you like. Plus a small buffet of fresh made muffins, fruit, granola, cereal, and assorted coffee and teas. I have yet to try a breakfast at an Inn that I enjoy more. I really love this place as it is dear to my heart. My husband and I got married here almost a year ago, and returning recently brought back so many good memories. This really is a special place to escape to and reconnect with the one you love.

Notchland is a gem! Surrounded by day hikes but why bother to leave the grounds?

We waiting 24 years to return to the Notchland Inn after staying there on our honeymoon. We agreed not to wait much longer until we return. We have a soft spot for this part of New Hampshire and the fairly secluded Notchland Inn is a wonderful place to relax and feel pampered. The rooms are spotless and charming. The suites are huge and welcoming. Those with whirlpool tubs for two look out onto the room's fireplace - every room has a working, woodburning fireplace. Some rooms have balconies. We were the only guests of the inn in late April and our guests treated us to an upgrade of our choice. Our suite had unique skylights angled over the bed so that we could look at the night and morning sky. It was terrific! Breakfast was served in the sunny dining room with all the choices of a restaurant including pancakes and french toast made to order. The two inn's Bernese Mountain dogs were friendly and as welcoming as the hosts.

We have lost track of how many times we have stayed at the lovely Notchland Inn. My husband "discovered" it on a hiking trip many years ago, shortly after Les and Ed acquired it. A two to three day winter weekend stay is an annual must and we try for an additional weekend whenever possible. As we come in the front door, we know we have arrived at a second home where we will be greeted warmly, fed supremely and housed in beautiful, antique comfort. Our favorite memories center around a crackling fireplace in our room while a light snow falls outside. We renewed our wedding vows in the music room on our 30th anniversary with Ed presiding and hope we can do the same on our 50th!

My husband and I have stayed here many times, including our honeymoon and several anniversaries. There is no place I'd rather go for a vacation. The rooms are romantic, the dinners are AMAZING, the area is beautiful, and the staff make you feel like an old friend. Stay soon, stay often! We do!

We made reservations for a Valentines Day weekend and were extremely satisfied with the charm, warmth and friendliness of of the staff and Inn Keepers. The knowledge of the area is extremely helpful for hiking and using the National Forest trails. The Inn is beautiful and warm. Breakfast was very good and dinner is superb. We are definitely coming back in the summer.

We traveled with our wonderful pets to the Notchland Inn for our 5th returning visit---as always, we felt so welcomed and cared-for--the innkeepers, Ed and Les are truly adept in the hospitality field--they offer a warm, comfortable inn with attention to detail--your every request is their pleasure---we will always and only stay at their wonderful inn when skiiing in New Hampshire at Bretton Woods.

We go to Notchland every winter for a 3-night stay. It is great for us because the location offers plenty of options for skiing (x-country) and winter hiking. Mark always has excellent suggestions on where to hike. This year we skiied up to the Zealand hut. It was great! Les and Ed are attentive but respectful of your privacy. Notchland is a very pretty spot, the property is very well cared for and unusually clean. Dinner is lovely and relaxing. Breakfast is perfect with many healthy choices for fueling up before going out for a day of winter sports. Most of all, guests are considerate, friendly and quiet. I never have to worry about screaming children running wild through the hallways at 11pm (sorry...I love kids but it has to be said). Thanks Notchland! See you next winter.

In the heart of the White mountains. Fireplace in every room! Outstanding cuisine! You have to try it at least once. I believe this was our 7th stay and there is no doubt, we will book again.

One of our many stays (including the site of our marriage weekend with the entire wedding party) again the perfect combination of fine dining, warm & friendly hosts and staff, excellent accomodations, and an Inn where one can get back to the basics of enjoying each other's company without interruption in an isolated yet "magical" setting. Booked our stay 1-wk prior to finding ourselves in this lovely little nook of NH. The Innkeepers arranged all of our activities for us making it really simple to show up + simply relax. The drive was lengthy (3+ hours) from Western MA but every second worth it once we arrived. First glance - stunning old Inn located off the road w/sparkling candles in the windows + on the walkways. Very inviting + welcoming. Our room perfect - ready for us even on our late arrival. Spotless/welcoming in every way. Loved the real fireplace in our room. Bed was VERY comfy + I am a bed/pillow snob. Soaking tub was lucious. We especially enjoyed the cozy sunroom w/plants overlooking the gardens + back cottages as well. Breakfast - exactly as we requested. Dinner just delightful - very filling + cooked perfectly! I love sweets + just couldn't finish the yummy apple crisp a la mode though I tried! The Inn has a wonderful ambiance - quiet if you're searching for that; but available friends if you're interested in chatting the morning away w/other guests. Mark, Les and Ed are just wonderful - kind, spirited, humorous, + very helpful. The dogs were well behaved...love to 'investigate' their visitors but never a bother...not even once! Can't say enough about our trip - other than it was far too short! And while we didn't stay in the separate cottages, we did ask to see them before leaving. They are just lovely as well. One large enough for two couples or a family; the other spacious and inviting for one couple looking to add a little seclusion to their stay. Personally, I quite enjoyed the main house. Our suite was superb...couldn't hear a peep from any other room. Perfect for a 4am trip downstairs for kindling wood to spark our fire again. Close enough to enjoy breakfast in our morning cozies without a lot of concern about walking outside in the chill. THE BEST location to visit any time of year…if you’re looking for a truly relaxing, quiet and romantic getaway, this is your place.

This is a great place to get away, actual wood burning fireplace in every room, and no phones or TV in the rooms though there are two phones in the public areas where you can place long distance calls. They have their own chef for a 5 course dinner (which is extra $ - breakfast included in room cost), the meal selections are excellent though dinner is not till 7 PM with wine & cocktails first (and the first course not usually till 7:30. You are not done till after 9 PM curring into time in front of your private fire place. Still all in all a great place to relax and unwind.

We have stayed at the Notchland many times and the consistency of the service,dining and lodging remains at a high quality year after year. Ed, Les and Mark are wonderful to deal with and made our stay enjoyable once again.

Have visited many times and always a wonderful experience. The location, the inn and rooms are quiet and beautiful. Innkeepers and all staff are warm, friendly, helpful and accommodating. Dinners involve not only excellent food but are gracious, relaxed and lovely events. Accessible (by car) to all area activities. Not inexpensive but worth it.

Incredible location, 10 miles from Mt. WAshington, across the street from Saco River, surrounded by White Mountain National forest. The innkeepers, Ed and Les, are a true delight. Rooms come with an excellent, hearty breakfast. If you buy dinner at the inn, it's excellent. Wonderful romantic getaway.

Ed, Les and Mark are remarkable hosts and provide an exceptionally warm and welcoming environment. Peace and tranquillity are two aspects to the Notchland Inn as it is surrounded by natural beauty. Our dinners were exquisitely prepared and presented. For an older inn, the rooms and common areas were all well maintained and clean. Worth more time on our next trip.

Notchland Inn is not only historic and gorgeous, it is the most relaxing place to stay! Amenities are great, the dining is excellent, and the owners and staff go out of their way to make sure that guests feel like visiting friends. The location could not be better-absolutely perfect! Stay at Notchland Inn and see for yourself - it's an incredible experience.

The innkeepers are wonderful. They stay out of the guests way generally, often its hard to find them to check in!! The dogs (Bernese Mountain) are super friendly, laid back and very addictive. The inn is wonderfully maintained, with Craftsman style architecture, rooms that are a mix of antiques and modern fixtures - 4 post beds and whirlpool baths do mix here. The meals are superb, varied nightly and of very high quality. The dining room tables are spaced nicely, private conversations are easy. At breakfast, ask Mark, a former guide in the national forest, for hints on what to do and how to get there. Well worth the time spent getting there, particularly if you come up the Kankamangus Highway.

The Inn is warm and inviting, with great common spaces. We had a fairly small, yet adequate, room. The dining room was superb. The hosts were gracious, helpful, and very interesting.

We have stayed at the Notchland Inn 2 times. This time we brought along some friends and we all had the greatest weekend. The stress just melts away Ed and Les are the best host I have ever dealt with. They went out of their way to make our weekend special.

We've stayed at "The Notch" several times and have always been impressed. Clean rooms, great location, and incredible meals make this one of our favorite B&Bs. In fact, this is where I chose to propose to my fiance. Note that this is more of a romantic B&B than a family destination. Also worth noting, Les and Ed are great hosts.
