5 minutes from Kansas City Union Station

5 su aprile 20, 2015

When you drive the 5 minutes from Kansas City Union Station to the Jefferson House you immediately notice the beautiful architecture from days long past. The stone and brick building is not only architecturally interesting but the grounds are beautiful. The entrance hallway takes your breath away with its gleaming wood and sweeping stairway. Our room, the Mulkey Suite, had all the modern conveniences without losing a bit of the antique appeal. The woodwork and floors were immaculate and the bed was old world iron. The mattress was new and extremely comfortable. The bathroom had NONE of the old house issues like low water pressure or inconvenient fixtures. The view of Kansas City from the room's cozy sitting room or from the bed was not to be missed. And then there's the artwork. The whole house is chockablock full of fascinating objects ranging from antique mechanical tools to modern art pieces and pottery (much of which is produced by the Owner's very capable hands). Lastly, the breakfast was simply spectacular; wonderful coffee, fresh fruit, warm scones and homemade scotch eggs that were the best I've ever had. The table setting was both beautiful and, once again, produced by the Owner. Be sure to check out her kiln while you are staying at the Jefferson House. We will definitely stay there again when we are next in Kansas City.

Can't wait to visit again!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay at the Jefferson House. No doubt we plan to return for another stay and have already been telling others about this wonderful place. It's a bit difficult to capture in a 'review' how great this place is - the house is beautiful, the stay was comfortable and relaxing, the food extraordinary. And to top it all off Peter and Theresa were an absolute delight to be around. If you are planning a trip to KC, do yourself a huge favor and book a stay at the Jefferson House.

The only service you could possibly add is a complimentary showing of Downton Abbey. :)

Our first visit to Kansas City and 44th Wedding Anniversary could not have been better due to Peter and Theresa and their wonderful B & B. Small details make such a difference, the thick oversize towels, long towel bar . beautiful armoire for hanging clothes, extra down pillows, luxious bedding including the sateen sheets, etc. The shortbread cookies everyday were divine. The breakfasts were different and delicious along with great presentation. Loved our afternoon sherry and conversations with Peter and Theresa. Loved looking for pieces of Theresa's pottery throughout the house. They allowed us to use their Costco card to purchase new tires and we also got to stay an extra day. Peter was great with recommendations on restaurants and directions to shopping. We loved eating at Chez Ella. We'll definitely go back.

Quaint B&B close to everything!

Peter and Teresa were the best hosts! They're so friendly and warm when welcoming you in. They have a personable air about them that makes you want to stay and talk to them, but they also have a very come-and-go atmosphere. The decorating couldn't be more perfect for a b&b. The food Teresa MAKES in the morning is heaven! The beds are so comfy! The location could not be more perfect to see absolutely everything you want to in KC! There's no reason not to stay here. Better prices than hotel and much more cozy. Highly recommend!

Outstanding Stay

Theresa and Peter Robinson provide a unique journey into the bed and breakfast get away. Their creativity and warmth transcend the traditional B&B visit. A stay at the Jefferson House will engage your senses. The antiques and fine art, the attention to detail within every aspect of the historic Jefferson House together with the aroma of a delicious breakfast provide a rich experience. We have stayed a number of times and regard the Jefferson House a home away from home in Kansas City. Wade and Maureen Thompson Springfield, Mo

A wonderfully delicious visit...

My partner and I were in town for a wedding and came upon the Jefferson House on this site. Having never stayed at a B&B before this trip I was a little bit nervous but Theresa and Peter made our stay so incredibly lovely! I arrived a bit later than I said I would but Peter was there to welcome me anyway with a big smile on his face. I had chatted with him earlier about check in times and he said that I could drop off my things before the actual check-in time that morning which was very nice. He gave me a tour of the gorgeous house and showed me to our room and told me about all of the amenities nearby (there are amazing restaurants and shops within walking distance of the house) and gave me a map of where everything I could possibly need happened to be. Oh, and I musn't forget the homemade cookies in my room- So delicious that they melted in my mouth. We stayed in the Mulkey Suite and I have to say that is was beautiful! Everything was dark hardwoods and luxurious linens. The decor was more beautiful than many things I have seen in design magazines and the cleanliness factor was perfect. Breakfast began with fresh squeezed grapefruit and orange juice. We then moved on to tea. We had the regular English Breakfast tea but Peter also offered us oolong or other exotic teas. When Theresa came out with the breakfast plates my jaw almost dropped. The plates were full of the most beautifully wrapped and breaded scotch eggs along with a fresh vegetable hash along with a fruit and tomato based sauce that had a wonderful tangy taste to it. After we had cleaned our plates because the food was so incredibly delicious, Theresa came out with a little bit of sweet to balance the salt. It was rum brushed banana bread with a buttery/brown sugar substance and candied walnuts on top. We had a great stay and are truly thankful for our wonderful, relaxing, and utterly delicious experience. We would highly suggest staying at Jefferson House if you ever have the opportunity!

Wouldn't stay anywhere else

What really makes or breaks the bed & breakfast experience is the hosts, am I right? Peter and Theresa are two of the best people around - fun, funny, and so easy to talk to. Whether you just want to pop in and out or really get to know them, they'll welcome you like family. Everything else - the gourmet food, comfy beds, ideal location, and convenience - is just icing on the cake.

Feast for the eye and palate

We were looking for lodging near the Crossroads District when a friend suggested this oasis in the city. Great location, eclectic neighborhood with great dining nearby. Wonderful artwork throughout the house including unique pottery and dinnerware created by the lady of the house. We shall return as often as is possible.
