We spent a beautiful fall week at the historic Rosewood Inn in Hastings MN. Pam greeted us at the front door and gave us a tour of her beautiful home. We stayed in the Rebecca room which was extremely comfortable with antique furniture, fireplace, double whirlpool bath, and ice cream/cookies from the kitchen. It's close to the Twin Cities with lots of attractions and easy to visit friends and relatives. We enjoyed most of our time walking a few blocks downtown to several friendly restaurants, visiting the parks on the river, and biking on good trails. Each morning, Dick started our day with a fabulous breakfast. We chose the time to eat every morning and enjoyed sitting in each of the historic dining rooms. Our retirement travels have taken us to many beautiful places, but we plan on returning to the Rosewood Inn again this spring.
Our stay at the Penthouse Condo at Thorwood Inn was exceptional! The private elevator was a great help in getting settled. All the rooms are so charming. The kitchen is absolutely beautiful. What really struck us was the sitting area in what we called the "solarium" - with glass all around, fireplace, overstuffed chairs and you are literally up in the beautiful oak trees. We have to say that breakfast at Classic Rosewood Inn was over and above anything we expected. Hosts Pam & Dick treat you as family, very special. What a wonderful experience! We highly recommend the Penthouse Condo and hope to return.

We loved the presence of the home the moment we stepped through the doors. We loved the REAL wood burning fireplace. The romm we stayed in was the Spring Lake room and even though it was smaller we appreciated the coziness as it gave more of a victorian cabin feel in that you could fall asleep so close to a real wood burning fire and actually feel its warmth while falling asleep. The ambiance of the entire place truly was "magical"! I personally loved reading about and hearing from the owners how this majestic home was saved from the impending doom of demolition -- it made me appraciate being able to experience the history that might otherwise be covered by a parking lot today. The food was beyond wonderful, it was so unique and they took simple grapefruit (which I have NEVER liked) and other fruits and made it SO tasty that I actually finished the entire thing. They made this bacon that I will forever be dreaming about until I return again that had the most undescribably wonderful taste. If I sound over the top its only because it was really an amazing experience -- I loved every moment!! We even had the experience of locking our keys in our car with the lights on, normally this would have thrown my night completely off but because of the peaceful element that surrounds this house I honestly had no worries or cars that the problem couldn't be fixed (and it was). All this to say, this was a great time of destressing and recharging and enjoying life once again. We loved our stay and hope to go back again soon!! Thank-you to the lovely owners!!
My fiance and I are not regulars for B&Bs; we were looking for some space and private time alone from others and we found all that and more at the Rosewood! Pam and her delightful hubby are the owners and caretakers and that is exactly what they do. We felt like our every need was cared for and we had plenty of privacy to enjoy our time together. The Inn offers your meals in your room if you choose and that is what we did. We were amazed at how freeing it was to not have to go anywhere for our meal and not have to prepare it ourselves. We loved the owners efforts to provide sustainable practices and organic foods. We try to only eat locally sourced, sustainably raised/produced, organic foods which can be VERY difficult in the hotel and resort industry so we were super appreciative of the DELICIOUS foods offered. The Inn also offers a dinner that you can order in advance of your arrival and you can enjoy at the Inn, which we were happy to take advantage of, and that too was absolutely delightful. We left feeling very pampered. The Innkeepers attend to so many details; we were truly blown away. We look forward to our next anniversary there; we have made our reservations to return! Thank you Rosewood Inn!
My wife and I have stayed at the Rosewood probably a dozen times over the years. We have stayed their for special days and just to get away. We love everything about the inn and the inn keeper. The experience is always tremendous. The breakfast is to die for....we have never stayed anywhere else that comes close to the Rosewood
Last week, my husband and I drove down from the Twin Cities to enjoy the fall colors and to spend the night in Hastings, MN. We were given a gift certificate to the Rosewood Inn Bed and Breakfast by a friend: what a gift! We would definitely recommend this inn to anyone: it is a perfect, wonderful, lovely stay in a beautiful, Victorian home. We loved the Vermillion Room we stayed in: a real, wood-burning fireplace (they supply the wood!), jacuzzi tub, beautiful decorations - it was perfect. We loved everything from the free ice cream in the community freezer, to the gourmet breakfast, to the town (downtown Hastings is very cute). There is a bike trail very near by that was lovely to take around to see the surroundings. Pam is a perfect hostess and both she and her husband are wonderful cooks. Breakfast was so peaceful and delicious. What a wonderful place - I highly recommend it.
We just got back from a wonderful evening and night at the Rosewood Inn in Hastings. The innkeepers were very friendly and conscientious, and had many thoughtful touches, including; a bottomless cookie jar, ice cream and hot drinks in the porch pantry, handmade soap and high end lotions, shampoo and cream rinse in the room and a beautiful, delicious breakfast. We had a wonderful time!
This is a wonderful place to go for a weekend away from the noise and business of the city. We lived the whirlpool in our room where we soaked our stress away and enjoyed the complimentary cookies and ice cream. The breakfast the next morning was absolutely delicious and topped off our trip. Def a place to visit the next time you want to get away!
This place was amazing! We were looking for a charming location with good service, we were beyond please with our experiece! The suites were impressive and the service was terrific. They were more than willing to cater to our requests and made us a definite priority. The community was quaint and enjoyable as well - we would go back time after time and recommend it to everyone!
We had a wonderful stay at this glorious B&B! The hospitality, food, and inn are second to none! We knew we wanted to go to the St. James Veranda for lunch and Vino in the Valley near Ellsworth, WI for our anniversary dinner, so we went on www.vinointhevalley.com and this B&B was the first suggestion for lodging close by. We enjoyed lunch in Red Wing and then the drive to Hastings where we had midafternoon drinks peanuts at the Busted Nut on 2nd Street after leisurely shopping in the great shops. We were welcomed by the owner and given a brief history and tour of this lovely inn. Then we made the 30 minute drive to our dinner at the open air pavilion set in the beautiful vineyard along a winding river in WI where we enjoyed wine, live music, good Italian food, played bean bags, ladder golf and strolled along the river. We even made it back for the Classic Car Cruisin along 2nd street. After a nice night's rest, we thoroughly enjoyed eating a wonderful breakfast of popover pancakes in our room on the enclosed porch. Room service was very timely and excellent food and service. We hated to leave after just one night - can't wait to go back!
We were treated like royalty! The in-room dinner and breakfasts were amazing and the perfect combinations of tastes. Our room (Rebecca's Suite) was very comfortable, tastefully decorated and fully equipped. We got some great sightseeing tips for the area and enjoyed our free time in Hastings.
Oh what a delightful stay! Pam greeted us, and remembered us, despite the many years since our last stay. We were made to feel so welcome, there is even a "secret" stash of cookies and ice cream. A few suggestions were offered for our return visit to Hastings. These included the local vineyard, and Carpenters Nature Center. These proved to be very enjoyable. Our room was stunningly appointed, with skylights, double teak wood jacuzzi, fire place, round shower and copper soaking tub. The breakfasts were served to our time specifications, and the food was perfect. We also availed ourselves of a soup and salad supper that was so yummy and filling. We left full, peaceful, rested and planning our return visit. Not just for the food and room, but the incredibly peaceful atmosphere, Pam, and Dick, have created. And I must mention the delightful woman cleaning the rooms, who offered to do our laundry. O.K. she didn't mean it, but it made me chuckle.
I first started visiting Hastings seven years ago while researching some local history. Because of the nature of my trip, I thought it would be fun to stay in an old house instead of a cookie-cutter chain motel. It was one of the best ideas I’ve ever had.
There so many things that make the Rosewood special. I can’t list them all here, but I’ll try to hit the high points. The breakfast is some of the best food I’ve had anywhere. I find myself craving it whenever I come home. The location is very convenient, but at the same time very quiet and peaceful. The rooms are all beautifully decorated and impeccably clean. Each one blends vintage elegance and contemporary convenience together in a very special way. Being a writer, I found the in-room journals - in which each room’s guests write about their stays - especially charming.
But of course the physical structure itself, although obviously impressive, would be nothing without the love and care the owners put into it. Some people are born to do certain things, and it is obvious that Dick and Pam were born to be innkeepers. I remember how much I enjoyed the tour Pam gave when I first stayed at Rosewood; later, I had the opportunity to tour Thorwood (their other property; now condos) with Dick. Both tours were real highlights of my time in Hastings. Their passion for history and preservation is contagious.
One more thing: I’m single and I’ve never been to the Inn with a significant other. Before I came for the first time I was a bit worried that the whole place might be a bit too lovey-dovey for me, but those fears were totally unwarranted. The Rosewood is a perfect place for ANYONE looking for a quiet retreat.
Having stayed at the Rosewood about twenty times or so over the past seven years, I’m delighted to say I’m in a position to vouch for the innkeepers’ consistently stratospheric standards. Five stars all the way around.
What a beautiful place! WE had never been to a bed and breakfast, and it definitely exceeded our expectations! Pam was so pleasant and willing to do anything to make our stay the best it could be! The breakfasts were to die for (popover pancakes and bacon yum yum) We will most definitely visit again, and hope the cove will bring as much happiness to others, as it did for us! Bravo!!!!
My fiance surprised me with a stay at Rosewood. What a lovely surprise it was. This quaint little inn features great service and delicious breakfasts. Ice cream and cookies are available any time. Sure, the rooms could use a little upkeep - peeling wallpaper and spiderwebs, but overall very beautiful and relaxing. Pam and Dick are both sweet and very concerned about you having a good stay. I would definitely recommend this place to others.
My partner and I spent a weekend in the St. Croix Room at the Rosewood Inn. The room was very comfortable with a jacuzzi and sitting area. The best features were the option to have a homemade supper delivered to our room so we could stay in the mansion all weekend. It was fun to have the option of sneaking downstairs at night for ice cream and/or cookies. The porch downstairs was a great place to sit and read. The hosts were friendly and accommodating. We would come back and would recommend this B&B to any couple (gay or straight) that wants a place to relax and enjoy being together. Sandy & Cindy (St. Louis Park, MN)

If you're looking for a romantic setting, the Classic Rosewood Inn in Hastings MN is it. We loved the double whirlpool bath and the very comfortable beds, but the highlight was the 3 course gourmet breakfast served in our room at our selected time. We found two baskets outside our door with fresh fruit, pastries, entree, wonderful coffee, and juice with linen napkins and place mats.
Pam Thorsen not only gave us the interesting history of the mansion, but led us in the right direction for biking and walking routes. She even provided coupons for the restaurants in town.
We plan to visit there again!
We have visited Thorwood Inn on three occassions so far and am planning to bring my huband back for a birthday suprise in a couple of weeks. The Inn keepers are fanstastic. They catored to our every need, making us feel welcomed and appreciated. This Cute & Cozy B&B is a great place to relax and get away from your everyday headaches.
We stayed in the St. Croix room, which was quite spacious and well-conceived. The jacuzzi bathtub was huge. Our fantastic 3 course breakfast for two was delivered right up to our room.
We had a beautiful stay in a beautiful house in a beautiful town. Our host was warm and welcoming and our room a delightful retreat. Hastings' historic down town was perfect for a romanitic sunset stroll along the Mississippi River and exploring interesting shops the next day. We had a wonderful time. (And the bacon was to die for!)
My new wife and I had our honeymoon here and were greatly pleased with our stay and how wonderful the staff was verrrry acomidating and the tour was great. we arrived slightly late but the staff was there and had a meal waiting on us. would recomend this place for anyone that enjoys getting away from everything and just relaxing alone.
A stay at the Classic Rosewood was quite simply, the perfect getaway. When we walked in, we were greeted by Pam and soon realized that she and her husband were going to make this a wonderful, romantic experience. And they truly delivered. Each room at the Rosewood is truly unique. We took full advantage of the in-room whirlpool, and loved the fact that breakfast was actually delivered to your room (The food was delicious). The weekend was a surprise to me and I have been doing a lot of hinting that I would like to go SOON!
