    Labor Day Weekend '12

    settembre 08, 2012

Truly incredible experience. The home itself is beautiful, and the owners do a tremendous job. There are lots of common areas decorated in the appropriate historical style. It was really incredible to see the well-kept and beautiful antiques in such a grand old home. Barbara is very welcoming and does a magnificent job of informing the guests about the surrounding areas and the city itself. She's invested in the guests and their stay, as well as the area, and is always willing to point you in the right direction. The room itself was nicer and larger than the photograph. The whirlpool tub hits the spot after a day of exploring the national park and climbing dunes! Our room had its own entryway and felt private which I'll admit was my main concern with staying at a bed and breakfast. We shared only one wall with another room and I never heard any other guests. We had a small TV which more than fulfilled my expectations considering you should be out and about. Plus, there's a common area with a HD TV upstairs in the large attic/loft, right by the common kitchen that Barbara keeps stocked with water, homemade cookies and snacks. There were several guests who watched the Spartan and Wolverine games up there and seemed to have a great time. I'm not a huge breakfast person, but I have been accused of being-for better or worse- a foodie (i.e. locked in reservations for the Cook's House-a block away from the Wellington- and Boat House before a place to stay). And I really like the breakfast. It's served at 9 a.m. each day and starts with a yogurt parfait that incorporates local produce and fresh-squeezed orange juice. It's then followed up by a slice of a fritata-style egg dish with, in our case, asparagus one day and sausage/peppers/onions and sour cream the next. The side dishes were nice sausages and a homemade bread. One day was blueberry muffins/bread. Our last day the main dish was blueberry pancakes with sausage. Delicious.

    Our private retreat

    agosto 31, 2012

We have been guests at The Wellington Inn for the past four years, spending a month each time in what feels like "our" French Country apartment in the carriage house on the property. This is a very special time for us. While completely respecting our privacy, Barb and Hank Reichel and their friendly staff always make us feel right at home. The fact that we are within walking distance to vibrant downtown Traverse City with its great restaurants (in every price range) is an absolute plus for us. Not only is the Traverse City area an attraction in itself, but also the location is centrally positioned for visits to nearby destinations such as the Interlochen Arts Academy. We are already looking forward to coming back again next summer.

The Wellington was probably the best stay we have had in the Traverse City area.

    agosto 30, 2012

An absolutely gorgeous home and property and expertly decorated for the era it represents. We were greeted warmly by our hosts Barb and Hank and were given a wonderful tour and history of the property. Our hosts took the time to talk about the area attractions, restaurants and activities available for the weekend along with many recomendations. Our "room" was actually an apartment in the "Carriage House". It was beautiful, and private, with excellent housekeeping service. We opted to have the breakfast on our last day there and it was a wonderful treat. The staff was very attentive and we enjoyed it entirely. Our hosts spent more time with us prior to breakfast pointing out other interesting things in the mansion and some of the restoration that took place. We felt our stay was well worth the money and we will recommend this property to others.

My fiance and I arrived at the Inn on a Sunday morning, which I can only imagine is a busy time for an innkeeper. As we were staying for a week we had a lot of luggage with us. Barb and Hank, out gracious innkeepers, treated us like royalty! They helped us with our baggage, led us on a beautiful tour of the inn, our room, and the fully stocked guest kitchen that was brimming with food and beverages for us to enjoy. Our room was glorious. Breakfast each morning was innovative, delicious, and very well-rounded. (Barb makes the BEST coffee!) Nothing served was too heavy or repetitious. I am a vegetarian, and Barb accomodated for my dietary restriction with the ease and flair of a culinary genius. I have never enjoyed such a wonderful stay. Barb and Hank provided wonderful suggestions for our daily excursions to the local wineries (Brys Estate and Two Lads are my favorite on the OMP!) and beaches (North Bar!). We have already booked our return trip next year. We can't wait to spend another week with these wonderful people at this glorious inn.

    Wonderful Stay

    agosto 26, 2012

This was our first B&B experience and it was wonderful! Barb greeted us and made us feel so welcome. We were given information about the house and the area and given many suggestions as to where to travel and dine. We were then taken to the Carriage House, where we were staying, and given the grand tour and our keys. The decor was amazing and the amenities were excellent. There was nothing we wanted for. The staff cleaned everyday and restocked our cookies, which by the way were addictive. So very good! We lounged one afternoon on the balcony and had a great chat with Barb when she came out and saw us enjoying the outdoors. We had breakfast on Sunday in the main house and it was so delicious. Fresh peaches and cream, a very good breakfast casserole and homemade cornbread. The coffee was just perfect. So full when we left. We will definitely be back whenever we return to the area and will recommend the Inn to friends. Thank you Barb and Hank for the hospitality. We are B&B converts now, no more hotels for us.

Nice, but didn't seem worth the money we paid.

    luglio 26, 2012

We stayed three nights here, and really loved the look and style this bed and breakfast portrayed on bedandbreakfast.com When we arrived, the innkeeper didn't seem very nice. She showed us the basics of how everything worked, showed us the room and all the public areas of the house, but seemed to put on a faux niceness. Didn't seem genuine. The architecture and detail of this home is beautiful and it was really neat to see the old world furniture. However, most of the furniture was threadbare, and the cushions were flat. The sofa in our room, you sat in and could feel the springs poking you. Our room description, said it had a balcony overlooking the garden, when in fact it overlooked the driveway. There also didn't seem to be air conditioning in our room, as it was often very warm in our room. The old world feel was very nice, using the old skeleton keys to lock up your individual room. Breakfast was to fussy, to complicated. Quiche everyday with a different vegetable, and bratwurst, are not the home style type of breakfast I look for in a bed and breakfast, so I barely ate here. It is a beautiful home, but lacking in some areas. We won't stay here again.

    Breath taking....

    giugno 21, 2010

The pictures don't do the Wellington justice. It is even more beautiful in person. Every room is decorated in stunning antique furnishings. It is large enough to not feel like you are sleeping in someone else's home but cozy enough that you never want to leave. The Inn keeper, Barbara was a pleasant and attentive hostess. Her thoughtfulness far exceeded my expectations. I have many food allergies and she and her staff went out of their way to make me special meals and buy me special snacks. The food was great...baked butternut squash with cinnamon apples and cherries, fabulous quiche, French toast, fresh fruit parfaits...the list goes on. Between the bubble bath in a giant antique tub, sitting out on the porch in the sunshine and all of the great stores and restaurants within walking distance it is worth every penny. I really have no idea why you would stay anywhere else...
