Nestled on Kalamazoo College’s scenic campus, this fully renovated, historic beauty is home to three very cozy “kottages”, referring to the feel and style of the interior spaces. Like most homes in the neighborhood, it was built as a single family home and later converted into three separate living spaces. After 17 years of ownership; classic urban lodging for modern travelers was a natural transition for this work in progress. All three private Kottages within this 3 unit home are furnished with all the comforts of home, including a well stocked kitchen, cozy living room, separate bedrooms and a spacious bathroom. Plus, all the warm touches you’d expect from a beloved B&B– like fireplaces, beds you melt into, European-style breakfast treats and even mini-bars. What makes us unique from other lodging choices: If you’re seeking an innovative and modern b&b experience, you’ll enjoy our notion of doing something different rather than doing the same thing better. However, if what you’re seeking is a traditional b&b experience which includes prepared breakfast with other guests, daily housekeeping, frequent interactions with the innkeeper and renting only one room, I might recommend another option. Kara’s Kottaages offers much more privacy, flexibility and space than most b&b’s, which includes self check-in’s at anytime, kottages that can accommodate entire families, diy meals of what you want when you want, the option to host small gatherings indoors or out and an innkeeper who does not enter the kottage unless requested to do so. Each kottage is lovingly designed for those who wish to be on their own schedule in a peaceful and private space without the constant presence of a live-in innkeeper and other guests. Available for overnight, weekly or monthly rental, Kara’s Kottages is an excellent choice for business or pleasure.

We arrived a bit earlier than what we stated in the reservation and had the good fortune of meeting the owner, Kara. She is extraordinary! Kara gave us a grand tour of all the units, because they were not rented for the evening. Her attention to detail is outstanding and I can assure she has gone to great measures to make sure your stay is comfortable. We stay in the Pine Cone Cottage and it was perfect! The unit was clean and cozy, especially with the fireplace and had all the comforts of home. I highly recommend Kara's Kottages.

The accommodations could not have been more ideal or better suited for our needs. We were thrilled and plan to stay there again and again.

My family and I stayed at Kara's Kottages the weekend of my brother's wedding. It was fantastic--the room was clean and very comfortable, and had everything we needed from extra linens to a very generously appointed kitchen (we went to the grocery store before checking out what was offered, and bought many unnecessary items.) Kara was extremely attentive and responded quickly to our questions once we were there. My parents and uncles stayed in another unit, and were equally impressed. The common courtyard was so convenient and was where we spent most of our time catching up and hanging out. I will definitely stay here again whenever I'm in town again. Thank you so much Kara!

We arrived to an inviting fireplace and cozy lighting that just begged us to sit and relax for a bit. It was even nicer than it looked in the photos. The refrigerator and cupboards were stocked with everything we could think of for our breakfast needs---most items even healthy and organic! Definitely one of the cleanest and most comfortable places we've ever stayed---it would even pass my grandmother's "white glove test" ---I would recommend KarasKottages wholeheartedly and without reservation. Since it is downtown and close to a college campus, you do get a little noise from groups walking by (especially late Saturday night/early Sunday morning). If you are used to city life, it won't even phase you.

I am a Michigan native with an appreciation for nature, a passion for good design and a love for historic homes. I originally moved to Kalamazoo from the Shores of Lake Michigan in 1990 to attend college. I decided to remain a resident because of the youthful energy, amazing people and up and coming direction which has since been realize. In my spare time, when I'm not combing the earth for treasures to use in my kottages, I'm exploring life with my husband, Dean and our amazing friends.
