Can't Be Beat for the Price and the Story!

5 su maggio 07, 2015

Staying aboard this incredible schooner put you right in the heart of downtown Boston. Traditional hotel rooms in the area are easily $400/night. It was a perfect home base for adventuring in the city. My favorite part was the discounted harbor sail after a day of sightseeing. Overnight guests get 30% their sail. We hung out on deck with the live aboard crew and met some very cool folks who live a totally different life than us. They had very exciting stories to tell and were super friendly despite having worked hard hauling sails and chatting with customers all day out on the water.

Disappointing experience

Recently, me and my wife have stayed three nights in a row on a B&B basis on the Schooner Liberty. Some good things have happened : people were nice even if the girl who greeted us was reluctant to give us the deluxe chamber for which we have had paid, there was good mattresses, clean linen and towels and proper continental breakfast. Moreover, it was nice to sleep on the water and to wake-up in front of the sea! On the dark side however, too many things don't work properly : don't expect to find any parking area nearby, except if you are ready to pay an additional $36 a day to the Boston Aquarium Parking, the sole realistic solution in that case; there is no wi-fi on the boat; the hot water distribution has been highly unpredictable (day 1 medium, day 2 cold and day 3 ok) and the toilets was malfunctioning during our entire sojourn; the shower lay in a tiny place with bad ceramic coating and has blocked on day 3; bad odors (mold and vomit) were constantly seeping into the chamber. Actually, the overall interior of the boat gives a stubborn sensation of dirtiness (the carpet of the dining room wins the first prize on this level, closely followed by the sticky handrails of the stairs) and pushes to think that the boat is in bad condition in general. Moreover, the day excursions of the ship command you to leave the boat from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.: too bad if you need to go back to your room for any reason! The nights are quiet, even if the boat had to recharge its batteries from times to others, but the surrounding activities, starting at 6:30 a.m., generate a lot of noise. Take in consideration too that these three days has been sunny; a rainy temperature could have considerably worsened these conditions... Having experienced many trips on diverse yachts, it worths to mention that because the constrained space on that kind of ship, the utmost cleanliness is mandatory in order to give a feeling of comfortability, which is absolutely not the case of the SLC.

rustic experience staying aboard an old ship

2,4 su settembre 25, 2013

I stayed aboard the Liberty Clipper for one night at the end of September 2013. This is an older working boat. The experience must be similar to being part of a ship's crew in the 1800's....I stayed during their last week of B&B availability in Boston and perhaps since it was the end of their season, or perhaps just due to deferred maintenance, their was a strong sewage smell that made sleeping difficult. The cabin had an open skylight/portal that was the only source of air. There is no air conditioning (which is typical on a ship of this age) but there are fans in the rooms, which I didn't use since it was about 45 degrees outside. On the plus side the small mattress was comfortable and the sheets were clean. The small sink in the room hadn't been cleaned in a while, however. The toilet and shower are shared with other rooms and were reasonably clean. I would consider staying here again if the sewage problem was fixed and if it wasn't too hot - without air conditioning and with limited ventilation I suspect the cabins get very hot in the summer.

Very groovy weekend at sea

4,6 su agosto 12, 2012

We're just back from spending the weekend on the Liberty Clipper, tall ship in Boston and did we have a very groovy time. We started with the Rum & Revolution sail around the harbor Saturday evening. It was a night of sea chanties, tales and drinks aboard the Liberty Clipper. Then we spent the night aboard the Clipper in one of their cabins, while docked. Sunday was another sail around the harbor for the Brunch Cruise. Both cruises were a lot of fun. The crew was a blast and extremely friendly. The Clipper is a working tall ship which means that the crew live and work aboard the ship so they are very knowledgeable and have great stories to share. And our fellow passengers were also very friendly and everyone had a great time. And the food on the brunch cruise was yummy. Staying in the cabin overnight was a nice change from the typical over-priced, stuffy Boston hotels. The cabin, naturally, was small but was nicer and more comfortable than we expected. It did get a little humid through the night but August in Boston will do that. Still had a very relaxing snooze in our bunks. And we even had a continental breakfast with fresh bagels & fruit and nice hot coffee. In the spirit of full disclosure, we did get an amazing deal on our weekend due to a problem with a previous reservation. But even at full price, we would have gotten all of this and still probably paid less than one night in a Boston hotel. And the staff, crew and office personnel at Liberty really bent over backwards to make up for the earlier error. We received some of the best customer service of our lives. We would recommend any of their cruises in a heartbeat. And staying on board is an experience everyone should try at least once. Cheers to everyone at Liberty Fleet and thanx for everything. Keep sailing!

Lots of fun!

My wife and I stayed aboard the Liberty Clipper after a sunset sail in Boston Harbor. We were a little hesitant about staying aboard the ship at first, but decided we needed a good adventure, and it was! The crew was fun to sail with and enjoyable to sit on deck with later in the evening and talk to. We had dinner at the Barking Crab and listened to the band. It was great, everything was in walking distance. I'd recommend this to anyone that wants to try something unique. And, the price was fantastic compared with the $300/night hotels in the area! Thanks to the crew of the Liberty Clipper!

A fantastic experience!

I spent a night aboard the hostel style accommodation. It was everything you could hope for. The staff and owner were super friendly. The bed was comfortable. If you are happy to be on a lovely old ship (and I was more than happy to be on one) with the obvious limitations compared to a standard hotel (but lots more character and adventure) then I would wholeheartedly recommend this!

Camere & Prezzi

Standard Cabin

Our ships were built to provide comfort to overnight passengers in cozy, rustic-style cabins. They are comfortably furnished with soft mattresses and pillows and all linens. Much like a hostel, most cabins share a common bathroom and shower (called a "head" on a boat!). These heads are a combined toilet and shower room and operate similarly to facilities on land. Solo travelers are likely to be paired with another solo traveler of the same gender unless a private single room is booked. We recommend that you pack lightly when possible in a soft-sided duffel as storage is limited in your cabin! If you are visiting Boston as part of a longer trip, you will probably find it helpful to pack the items you will need during your stay in a smaller, separate bag. This cabin my be reserved as follows: Shared Single: $55-$60/person/night - you may be paired with another solo traveler of the same gender Private Single: $87.50 - $90/night Private Double: $110 - $120/night
