The Allens were fabulous innkeepers providing excellent food and information about the flora and fauna on their acreage and that of the national forest behind them. A joy for any person with a naturalist bent.
If I could have scored higher than a 5 I would have! Big thumbs up from me. Highly recommend to anyone that has business at Ft. Polk or surrounding area. A short 15 minute drive to Ft. Polk, perfect if you like nature and even better if you like to eat. Much better than any hotel you will ever stay at. Susan and Dr. Allen are great hosts!! I will certainly come back if I'm in the area. Don't miss your chance to experience the best hospitality, in a relaxing setting - it felt like home. Lori, O'fallon, IL
I stayed at Allen Acres with a few of my co-workers and we were very pleased with our stay. Our hosts were gracious and friendly, and provided the perfect environment for our 4 day stay. They went out of their way to make us comfortable and I will definitely stay here again if I am at Ft Polk for business in the near future.
Charles and Susan Allen are wonderful hosts.
If you like to explore nature in detail, this is the right place for you. There is some forest on the premises and Mr. Allen will be delighted to show you around and explain everything.
Allen Acres is perfect with children, too. A classic farmstay with all comfort and well working wifi at a very calm and peaceful place. The hardest thing there is to leave when your stay will be over. Try it!
Great place to stay. Mr and Mrs Allen are great hosts and provide a scenic getaway for business or pleasure. Clean, quiet and comfortable, Mr and Mrs Allen provide exceptional hospitality. You will not be disappointed.
We stumbled upon Allen Acres when traveling through Louisiana for work & only wish that we could have stayed longer. Charles & Susan are incredible hosts, so kind, warm, knowledgeable, welcoming and friendly and we felt right at home from the moment we pulled up at the property and were greeted at our vehicle! The B&B is located on beautiful grounds, complete with butterflies abounding, rocking chairs on the front porch (perfect for sipping morning coffee) and a delicious breakfast, including eggs right from their farm! Allen Acres truly did feel like a home away from home for us & we're looking forward to returning the next time we come through the area....Thank You Charles & Susan for your wonderful hospitality and kindness.
There is nothing I don't like about this place. The Allens waste no time convincing you that you are one of the family. There is always something blooming in the gardens, and it is a rare moment when there are no hummingbirds or butterflies around. Charles is a first class botanist who can tell you a story about any plant you come across. Susan is a first class cook that will inspire you to postpone the diet until after you leave. That is just scratching the surface! The Allens are very interesting and welcoming, and I plan to return to Allen Acres often.
Stayed during the first of March. We stayed for two nights and it was wonderful. Charles and his wife Susan were really down to earth great people. Great place to stay with kids, loved the chickens and being able to be outside. The breakfast made by Susan was really good and there was lots of it, always extras! We would definitely recommend to stay there and consider staying again if we were to ever be in the area again.
We had 4 small children with us for our stay and they were so wonderful to our family! We felt right at home with Charles and Susan and we were able to rest and relax on our own time. I would recommend this stay to anyone!
The Allens have a wonderful family which I love talking to every time I come here. I've never stayed at a bed and breakfast before, but will never stay anywhere else when I come to Leesville.
We had a nice time at Allen Acres. The room was good and very clean and our breakfast was wonderful including fresh eggs, but the best part was our evening nature walk. We have never seen so many hummingbirds in one place. This place was a good value with the nicest hosts.

I never stay at a B&B before and I was taken in by the tranquility of nature –the farm, family and now, my new friends. It truly was FABULOUS!
With work on Ft Polk, So many people drive through every day and never take the time to appreciate one of God’s greatest creations I truly appreciate the power and beauty of nature now after staying at Allen Acres Bed and Breakfast. Thank you...
Every morning expect a meal fit for a King! I gained weight from home cooked meals prepared daily. Eggs to order, bacon your choice [health or regular], sausage, biscuits, grits, pancakes and or waffles. After that I just might have to find a new wife!

This B&B makes staying in the Leesville/Ft. Polk area much easier. Its clean, you have your own kitchen (no stove but you can use any number of heating devices to cook), and it is only 15 minutes from the Ft. Polk back gate and 30 min from the front (this is short). The owners are wonderful, you can have fresh eggs, and one day she even made Pho for us for breakfast! There are trails to exercise on, a consideration given the high speed narrow country roads in the area. Its a great value, and a hidden gem!

This bed and breakfast was absolutely amazing! Susan creates a fabulous breakfast of fresh eggs (from the chickens out back), bacon, biscuits, grits, oatmeal, or whatever your heart desires! One morning i just decided on cereal. :o) The atmosphere at the B&B is very relaxing and homey. Every one who visited while I was there was extremely nice and a pleasure to talk to. You really feel at home while you are there. I liked ability to walk around the grounds and enjoy the natural beauty. It was fairly chilly during my stay but there were a few butterflies that decided to come out and enjoy the beautiful flowers! Absolutely a great place to stay. I will definitely recommend this B&B to everyone I know!
I stayed here for the first time this week and what a nice surprise from the usual hotel set up. Charles and Susan were so welcoming and personable.
I explored the surrounding and enjoyed the nature (chickens included).
It was quiet and tranquil place while close to Ft Polk. I'll be definitely be back again.
I was in the Fort Polk area on business and spent five days at the Allen Acres B&B. The hospitality shown to me made being away from home easier. This was by far the most relaxed I have felt while traveling on business, and I travel a lot. From the moment I arrived I was treated like part of the family. The rooms were comfortable and the food was outstanding. I enjoyed the conversations I shared with Dr. Allen and his wife Susan. The 26 acre property is truly a wooded paradise adjacent to the Kisatchie National Forest, near the picturesque Ouiska Chitto Creek and Fort Polk. Thank You for everything!
I came across this place by accident and am SO happy I did. This B&B is beautiful. There were hummingbirds, butterflies, dragonflies, various and sundry birds... The rooms are very clean and the beds are really comfy. The best part though are the owners. Charles and Susan Allen are two of the kindest people I've ever met. and Charles will even give you a guided tour of the place explaining what flowers attract what insects. At night, we sat on the back porch and watched fireflies all over the land. It was an amazing place. The food was also to die for.
This is not your traditional B&B. We came across it only because all of the motels were booked for the week. We are so glad we got to experience this lovely couple, Susan and Charles. Susan is an excellent cook and treated us like we were part of her family. We enjoyed our conversations over breakfast and feel like we know the rest of her family through her stories. We highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast. May, 2010
Come for the relaxing, stay for the great food and gardens!
We stayed here in October after a camping trip in Kisatchie. They are simply the friendliest people on Earth. If you give them a little notice, they will prepare home cooked Chinese cuisine for you and it will be some of the best food you have ever had! Really, you won't believe how nice the gardens are and they treat you like family. Peace and much success to Allen Acres! from Marty and Amy in Lafayette, LA
I happened to stumble on the Allen Acres B&B after all hotels in Leesville were sold out. The price was within Gov't per diem and only 15 miles away from Ft. Polk Joint Readiness Training Center(JRTC), so decided to give it a try versus driving each morning to the base from Alexandria, LA as i normally do.
it turned out to be an incredible experience, the hospitality from the host especially Susan was extrodinary, she took care of us as if we were her own family. Everything is so wonderful from gathering fresh chicken eggs for next day breakfast, red hot Crawfish feast, delicious Chinese and Vietnamese dishes, the country surrounding atmosphere.
Now i know whenever i am in CenLA(Central Louisana), i will always know that Allen Acres B&B is my first choice to stay. :))))))
Charles and Susan are excellent hosts! My son is stationed at Ft. Polk and was hurt during training, needing minor surgery. I stayed at the B&B hoping to lighten the stress of my visit and it was absolutely the best choice. Charles and Susan treated me and my son like family and allowed us to completely relax. We sat on the front porch and watched the humming birds flutter about in the wild garden. We also toured the grounds, taking pictures of the yard art, chickens and scenic countryside. We were treated to gourmet breakfasts with fresh eggs and it actually was too much for my 18 year old son to eat! I am returning to the B&B this approaching weekend with my husband to enjoy the romantic aspects of the wild gardens and peaceful environment, not to mention, visit my son. If you're going to stay in the area, this is the place to be! It's only 20 minutes or so to Leesville through the Kisatchie National Forest.
Charles and Susan are excellent hosts, providing a home-from-home experience in a tranquil, relaxed environment. The home-cooked breakfast was wonderful, nothing is too much trouble. We intend to go back in the summer months to see the humming birds, butterflies and moths which are actively encouraged to visit the many wild flowers in the gardens.
Charles and Susan Allen were very accommodating to me, the house was clean, comfortable and recently renovated. Charles and Susan are friendly, pleasant and very helpful. Due to my schedule during my stay and the rainy weather, I wasn't able to enjoy the property, but it looked to be loaded with adventure and discovery. I know my wife and children would have had a blast! I will definitely stay here in the future if my travels take me this way again.
Very pleasant and calm setting. Reminiscent of early American aura. Very clean and very good food. Extremely gracious and generous hosts and enlightened conversation.
I was in town visiting my son at Fort Polk and found Allen Acres, what a wonderful place, comfortable and cozy I felt right at home. But the best part of my stay was Charles and Susan, they are both warm and gracious hosts. THE food was great(the eggs were gathered the night before), the conversation lively, I felt right at home and it was hard to leave.
My wife and I recently spent a very enjoyable three and a half days with Dr. Allen and his gracious wife Susan along with other native plant enthusiasts at their B&B. The accomodations were quite comfortable and functional. Highlights of our stay included the outstanding breakfasts with the freshest of eggs often collected that very morning by Charles from the diverse variety of chickens that he raises at Allen Acres.Additionally through the various theme gardens around the B&B, through outstanding field trips, workshops, slide programs, available literature (plant lists, etc.),informal lectures, and interactions with other native plant enthusiasts, visitors have ample opportunities to learn about the local flora, plant-butterfly/bird associations as well as other aspects of the natural world in this area of Louisiana.Overall we highly recommend a stay at Allen Acres. Recently had the pleasure to stay a few days with the Allens at their B & B.
The rooms have King beds; the accomodations were quiet and comfortable.
The graciousness of the owners was the best. Meals were excellent!
If you want to get away for some peace and quiet, this is the place to go!
