We aren't frequent visitors to bed and breakfasts but found Janey and Tom's home to be completely welcoming and comfortable. The quarters were roomy, private and stacked with all the necessities. The woods were so peaceful and restful. Watching the deer, birds and other wildlife was very therapeutic. Janey made a different (and very yummy) breakfast on each of our mornings there and was so accommodating to our gluten free requirements. Tom and Janey were also helpful in pointing us toward local eateries for other meals while being very respectful of our privacy at all times. We invited Bunker and Jack to come for visits. They were wonderful companions of the k9 variety. We look forward to returning to the Woodlands often.

Everything was perfect, the room, our hosts, the grounds, our private pool and hot tub, and the food was fabulous. Janey makes the best breakfast and granola to be found. The wildlife was spectacular we were amazed at the beautiful birds outside our dining area window and enjoyed trying to identify them. The deer and chipmunks were literally at our feet on the patio. The one complaint we had was that our stay was much too short and next time we need to stay longer. I have stayed in five star hotels that can't compare with the Woodland B and B. The privacy, cleanliness, hospitality , amenities and natural beauty of the grounds can't be beat. Thank you Tom and Janey for sharing a little piece of heaven with your guests. Janey 's cooking is an experience everyone should be treated to at least once in their lifetime. Her homemade granola is alone worth a visit to the Woodlands and she and Tom make you feel welcome and at home while at the same time providing a tranquil retreat with privacy. We left feeling like we made new friends and finding a special place to relax and enjoy hopefully for years to come. Can't wait to return:-) Mike and Kim

This is so much more than a simple bed and breakfast. Starting with the lovingly decorated suite of rooms and ending with what seems like an entire state park right at your door. On our too short, 3-day weekend there really was no reason to even leave. Room-service breakfasts were tasty and so abundant there was no need for lunch. (And the wonderful, homemade cookies filled in the gap before dinner.) We had a great dinner in our suite the night of our arrival and the second night went to the famous Rubes Steakhouse. (Which is almost reason enough to visit Marshalltown. What fun!) Days started with lazy breakfasts, tea, birdwatching, then long hikes through the meadows and woods, over the cricks and down to the Iowa River on the well maintained trails, a soak in the hot tub, out for dinner and then back "home" to play cards or simply talk before falling into the comfy bed. The B & B seems to have many amenities, many of which we didn't have time to take advantage of. We loved all the books (birds and trees) to answer all our questions about what we'd seen out in the woods that day. The kitchenette was great. We could make a cup of tea (or coffee, as you wish) whenever you like and keep a bottle of wine in the refrigerator. This seemed more like a cozy cabin in the woods with room service than a B & B to me. Janey and Tom were warm, wonderful hosts, able to answer all our questions, but never invasive. They certainly have a place worth returning to.
