Staying with Shaun was one of the best decisions we could have made. The experience, the room, the entire B&B were all perfect. When we needed to leave earlier than the normal breakfast time, they had a tray brought up to the room the evening before to make sure we had something (incredibly delicious) to eat in the morning. The place was incredibly clean and smelled wonderful. We stayed in the garden room, which was nice and out of the way, although doesn't have wifi in room, which was slightly disappointing. Overall, they get a 5/5 without a doubt.
Shaun is an incredible host, and his establishment is comfortable and charming. My favorite stay during my time in France. Will definitely go back and stay again!
What shall I say, Shaun is a great host. We were greeted like old friends,a few beers ans glasses of wine. It feels like home.
The B&B is well positioned only a few minuts from the centre . beautiful rooms, a very good, breakfast and what a hospitality !
Shaun keep your sense of humor for our next visit.
Greeting,
Hannie and Theo van Dijck
Gat location. Walking distance to Langeais with its chateau. Lots to do near by including Villandry. It is clear that Patrick and Shaun love running a B&B because there are all sorts of thoughtful touches that make guests feel at home. The rooms are beautifully finished and every comfort provided. There is a fabulous room with a T V where guests can relax and courtyard where we ate dinner under a Kiwi vine. Shaun was a great host and we would highly recommend Le Clos Rebelais.
Well positioned , easy walk into charming Langeais. Comfortable and can be fun if you click with other guests, Shaun does his best to make this happen. For me the only choice for Kms around - just about to stay for my 5th time.
A good house great hosts.

Endroit que je recommande+++++++
Great hosts and a fun place to stay! It's clean, lovely room, great old house and they treat their guests very well. It's near many great places and Castles in the area. Super stay, highly recommended!!
When we arrived we were greeted like old friends, a brief chat, a glass of wine and a sense of comfort that gives you your own home.
The rooms, with the only handicap of bringing the suitcases up the steep ladder, are wonderful and have surprising details that add value to the experience.
The treatment was great and makes the stay seem short.
Also, Langeais is a lovely village and has plenty of photogenic places.
We were welcomed with a glass of wine to relax on the patio byShaun, the quintessential British host in the French Chateau city of Langeais! The climb
to our suite was challenging, but the reward once we arrived was worth the
trip, complete with water chiling in the fridge and Chocotate too! We dined with another couple also staying at Le Clos and found much in common to share, making a delightful stay even moreso with good conversation, delicious food and a convivial host/chef. This is a find and the Chateau Langeais is incredible.
Shaun is fun and easy to be around, but has a wry sense of humor that may not be for everyone. He is well informed about the area and has been to all the places he recommended to us. The dogs are great and added a warm feeling to an already welcoming household. We had a fabulous time in the area, despite some inclement weather; and found the B&B well situated for all of our adventures. We would stay again. Thanks for making us feel welcome and accommodating our daughter so easily.
We stayed at Le Clos Rabelais for 6 nights and Shaun made us as welcome on the last day as on the first. This is a great base from which to see the sights of the Loire valley and surrounding area, and we were surprised that many guests only stayed one night on their way through. The major road network is very accessible but there are lots of country lanes as well, and so little traffic! It was great to be able to bring in bread and pate (and wine) for light meals - many B&Bs don't provide so much as a plate for your own food. We especially liked the dogs and the kiwi fruit growing on the vine. We will certainly be staying at Le Clos Rabelais if we are visiting the area again.
My wife and daughter and I had a superb time with Shaun. No trouble was too much for him. The dogs were SO friendly, and my daughter loved chasing the baby lizards.
Had two wonderful nights with Shaun, from the moment we had our first glass of wine in his beautiful garden I knew I was at home. The best house party I have been to this year,if ever I am in the area I will definitely stay with Shaun.Request the garden room ,you will not be disappointed.
It was such a lovely B&B that we went and stayed there again. both Shaun and Patrick made us feel so welcome and the rooms excellently appointed. Our first visit was for 2 nights and as we had such a great stay we booked again several months later and were not disappointed at all. We have now bought in the region and class Shaun and Patrick as our good friends.
Having booked our stay with Patrick over the web we already had a good feeling about our proposed stay, needless to say we were not disapointed.
After being greeted by both Shaun and Patrick and several glasses of the pink stuff we knew that we had made a good choice.
On our second day after some local site seeing and visits to Chateaux's we were invited to an evening meal with Shaun, Patrick and our other new aquaintances staying at Le Clos Rabelais, a great time was had by all and much pink stuff consumed.
In fact after visiting friends in La Rochelle and the weather still doing its worst (overcast and rain) we rebooked with Shaun for two more nights on the way home and a great time was had by all. We will deffinitley be returning to France and the Loire, and staying with Shaun and Patrick.
Shaun has done a terrific job at this B&B. Each bedroom is huge and well-furnished, the beds are very comfortable, and all sorts of little touches add up to one wonderful package.
He is fully wired, with internet computer services and internet television - allowing you to watch various stations world-wide. His staff is very helpful, and he can provide ideas and services to make your stay in the Loire Valley a perfect experience. Whenever I return to this region, I'm staying here again!
My daughter and I arrived in Langeais just before Christmas, rain-soaked and sick with bad colds. Thank goodness we had booked a room in this beautiful B&B, where we were welcomed with much warmth and comfort and lots of pampering. We were truly made to feel at home and well taken care of by Shaun, who was cheerful and attentive without being intrusive. The breakfasts were luscious and on Christmas morning, Shaun made us a special dish that was delicious and way above and beyond the call of duty. By the time we left 5 days later, we were well on our way to recovery. My daughter has decided Langeais is her favorite place in France! I only hope our kind and helpful host made a speedy recovery from the cold we left him with.
I well remember staying in a B&B where there was no hospitailty, where we were locked out between 10am & 5pm (and 'don't get back after 10pm because the door will be locked'!) and the landlady constantly gave us 'looks' that made us feel as if we had imposed again!
Well, right at the other end of the spectrum is Shaun's place Le Clos Rabelais!! From the moment we arrived it was as if we had been welcomed into his home. Our children (10 & 8) felt at home and we didn't feel on edge as they played with the dogs, watched TV and listened to music as we tasted some local wine! On our last evening (we were only stayed for 3 but it seemed as if we lived there) Shaun put himself out to create a night to remember - the food was excellent, company was great and the wine was abundant! Of course we were chilled (we were on holiday after all) and the weather was good and the setting is wonderful but it is for the warmth of genuine friendship that we will remember our time at Le Clos. We look forward to a return and hopefully meet Patrick.
If you want to visit the castles , this B&B is it ! Nicely located and what a charming hosts.
We felt at home right away and loved every bit of our stay!
The evening meal was warming, nice to meat other people and indeed Shaun has a way of bringing people together and have a good time!
Excellent food and more then enough to eat & drink.
WE WILL BE BACK !
an absolute 'MUST' !!

Le Clos Rabelais is a unique bed and breakfast which we highly recommend to anyone travelling to Langeais.
Shaun and Patrick are extremely friendly and made us feel instantly welcome. Our stay with them was the highlight of our European holiday. The location is excellent. It is only a short stroll into the charming village of Langeais where you can visit the Langeais castle, visit cafes, or enjoy a walk to the Loire River. It is close to several places of interest like the Castle of Villandry and its famous Gardens, wineries, and other historical sites.
One warm evening we had a picnic by the Loire river. Shaun and Patrick supplied the cheese and salmon and other goodies in the picnic basket. (How many B and B's would do that?)
Kayaking down the river was another enjoyable outing.
We looked forward to returning to our B and B at the end of each day,to be greeted by Shaun and Patrick and their generous offers of wine and beer and a good dose of Shaun's humour!
Our last evening was very special. Shaun cooked us a delicious meal and we sat outside in their garden and ate by candlelight. There was lots of wine and lots of laughter. We would love to return one day and stay longer next time!! Thank you Shaun and Patrick.
We were 4 Australians expecting the usual B and B....but we got a hec of a lot more!!!! Highly recommended.
In July 2010 we (4 people) stayed at Le Clos Rabelais. Prior emails indicated that the place was run by a friendly helpful person. It was also important for us that he spoke english as we could not communicate in french. On arrival everything turned out to be as good as his word, and we immediately felt relaxed. The rooms were fine and comfortable and the building has such an agreeable feel about it.
As a destination Langeais is most impressive and has the feel of an authentic French small town. The fact the it has such an impressive Chateau - authentic in so many ways is a massive bonus. Langeais has the advantage of proximity to such a large part of the beautiful Loire Chateaux.
There will always be problems planning an independent holiday in France from Australia but I definitely want to return here and will certainly encourage friends to consider Le Clos Rabelais for there stay in this area.
Sean & Patrick run a great place and can't do enough for you. It was really nice how they introduced you to other guests and created warm, cordial ambience.
We'll be back.
