Abode at Willowtail Springs B&B and Cabins

We wanted to go to Mesa Verde to see the ruins and were looking for a nice place to stay. The owners have great attention to detail on the property and in the cabins (down to handmade and organic soaps and lotions). We played chess, my daughter read all of the children's books (of which there were dozens), and cooked a lot of our own meals (which saved hundreds of dollars and is a much healthier choice). The evenings were serene on the deck overlooking the pond. Sleeping accommodations were fantastic. In fact, I bought new bedding when I got home to match the bed at the lake house. The owners were there if you needed them, but were not intrusive. We felt completely at home. We will definitely be back.

After spending too many hours overworking ourselves in the corporate world, my boyfriend's and my stay at the Bungalow brought us so much peace and relaxation! We decided to stay on the property for our entire visit instead of sightseeing. It's just to hard to leave a place of beauty like this. Every detail was perfect, from the gardens of Irises and sound of beautiful birds to the artistic touch inside the Bungalow making it extraordinarily homey. Lee and Peggy have created such an amazing place to escape to. I would recommend a stay here to anyone! ~ Kelly

Willowtail Springs is an incredibly special place - the cabins are fully adorned with antiques, plants, rugs, pillows and throws, beautiful original art work hangs on the walls, the gardens and lake and views are fabulous, and the creative and caring spirits of Peggy & Lee fill the property with peace and tranquility. A MUST on your places to stay!

We had a wonderful fall weekend in Mancos and the highlight of it was not Mesa Verde, which was great, but our stay at Willowtail Springs and its delightful and helpful proprietor, Peggy. The lakeside cabin was just wonderful and we wondered why we were not just staying the whole week since there was not enough time to see the local sights and enjoy all the cabin and its surroundings had to offer. Our stay at Willowtail Springs was one of the most relaxing stays we have experienced in recent memory. It made our 41st wedding celebration exceptional. I would highly recommend a few days at Willowtail to experience nature at its best.

For several years now, we have gone to Willowtail Springs for long weekends to celebrate our anniversary. It's a perfect place to relax and be together: beautiful, peaceful, and welcoming. We really like that quality breakfast foods are in the fully-equipped residences, and we never have to leave the grounds. Peggy and Lee are great hosts!

fantastic location, great hosts. We had the Bungalow which has a great view of the lake. no restaurants without driving for 10-15 mins but good self catering & they provided a lot of basics. Remember you're at 7,000 ft & can be a problem. Drink plenty of water. Would love to go back.

The lake house is beautiful and in a wonderful setting, with terrific views of the mountains across the small lake on the property. We had three adults and two children during our stay, and there was plenty of room. The kitchen is well-appointed and it was easy for us to prepare meals when we wanted. Peggy and Lee were excellent hosts, and were very helpful when we needed advice about outings. The location is a good launching point for visits to several outstanding national parks and other sightseeing locations: Mesa Verde, Monument Valley (2.5 hours away), Arches National Park (just under 3 hours away) and the San Juan scenic byway. We look forward to returning someday!

Our family of four, which includes two teenagers, recently spent two days at this special place nestled in the woods 10 minutes from Mesa Verde National Park. We wish we could have spent more time there enjoying the peaceful surroundings from our comfortable porch, canoeing on the pond, enjoying breathtaking sunsets and the bright star filled night sky. The cabins are creatively decorated reflecting Peggy's artistic talent. Peggy and Lee are friendly, helpful hosts and organic products are provided for breakfast each morning. Our stay at Willowtail Springs has provided a special memory for our entire family and we are looking forward to our return.

This was the best place we have ever been to for a getaway! Everything exceeded our expectations and we would definitely go back again and have recommended our friends to do the same.

Beautiful spot on the mountains. Views are great. The host & hostess were wonderful friendly people. The fish pond was very pretty but nearly impossible to fish because of hydrilla. We truely enjoyed our stay. It is close enough to town for dining.

If you want a comfy shabby chic place to relax- Willowtail is your destination. We found it on the internet years ago and return everytime we are in the area. There are great places to walk, read, relax and the fishing is fun! Lee and Peggy are a delight ! Get away while still remaining close to many attractions.

The charm and ambiance that Peggy and Lee have created is second to none, making this a great place to clear the mental clutter, forget about work for a couple of days and truly relax. Peggy and Lee are delightful hosts. My favorite cabins are the Bungalow and the Garden Cottage, mainly because they are smaller and more intimate when it's just one or two people. No details are overlooked... fresh coffee beans, real cream in the fridge, Peggy's homemade berry preserves, crisp linens, and all immaculately tidy and clean...not to mention the simple pleasure of wandering and exploring through the fantastic gardens. I've recommended Willowtail Springs to many friends who have thanked me again and again.

I had a epiphany at the B&B, as I realized things can be very different then they had been for years for me. My most sincere thanks is extended to Peggy and Lee for the amazing opportunity to change the course of my life.

I was fortunate enough to enjoy several nights at Willowtail last October, and I am anxiously awaiting my next stay! Willowtail is off the beaten path, but easily accessible to Durango and the charming little town of Mancos; Peggy and Lee are elegant hosts, who have a knack for providing upscale amenities, and at the same time, providing a cozy, wabi sabe-like, "plop yourself down and read, knit, meditate, or chat" atmosphere than cannot be topped. I now consider it my home away from home--a respite from the daily stresses and a rejuvenating experience.

My husband and I rented all of the cabins to put our family up during our wedding celebration. Though the wedding was off-site (200+ guests), we got ready, took pictures and spent quality family time at Willowtail Springs. It snowed in the mountains and the view from each cabin was gorgeous! What a way to spend and remember such a special time in our lives! My husband and I stayed in the bungalow, an excellent space for a couple. The Lakehouse was my favorite though. It is so roomy and comfortable. Excellent for big families because the kitchen and dining room were big enough to accommodate everyone. The Garden House was really great too and just far enough away from the other two cabins to give a little more privacy. Peggy and Lee were so accommodating and made the event very special for us. We loved that we had all of the breakfast items and snacks in the cabin to eat at our leisure and the details in each cabin were so unique. If you have time, and you are lucky, maybe Peggy will grace you with one of her fabulous stories. Lee was really sweet. He stays busy keeping the place in tip-top shape! Thank you Willowtail Springs for a great getaway for our family! We will be back!

It was way more than what we expected and was a last minute choice. The people were very nice and welcoming, the best I have ever met. Would love to return but the odor of cat urine was everywhere in the downstairs. Tried to air it out but it didn’t work. It’s so sad for such a wonderful place owned by outstanding people!

To our guests who stayed with us for two days last September, We appreciate you taking the time to review our property and for the nice comments you made on our place and our hospitality in Bed and Breakfast.com. We are, however, very puzzled and concerned about your mention of cat urine smell. We have two cats and one dog, Recognizing that some guests are allergic to animals, especially cats, we also advise guests to please avoid inviting the cats inside. The dog will not come into the cabins and we have a no pet policy so our guests never bring their own pets. We are sorry that you did not share this problem with us during your stay – when we would have had a chance to investigate and, possibly, remedy the situation. We are a large property with our cabins on the edge of a 4 acre lake in the middle of 60 acres of a pinion/juniper forest. Sometimes after a rain, or if the breeze is right, the natural scent might resemble cats. We have raked our brains trying to figure out what else this could have been. Since your review, we have also done extensive cleaning/deodorizing to make sure there is no odor from another source. Again, we are sorry that you were less than pleased. We would have been grateful to have had the opportunity to pinpoint and solve whatever the cause of the scent was. We both work long hours to make sure that our guests are comfortable, happy and enjoy their experience with us.

Lee and Peggy are the perfect hosts for a perfect getaway. Upon arrival we were greated by Lee who made us feel welcome right away. Along with Lee, we received a friendly greeting from Rudy, his dog. Lee took us on a tour of the Garden Cottage and explained everything to us. We also met Peggy later on. She made us feel like family. The cabin had everthing we needed including Wi-Fi which alowed us to continue our internet diary of our trip. The cabin has a TV with plenty of channels. There is a stereo and a DVD player along with DVDs. Later, Lee took us on a tour of the property. He stopped what he was doing and gladly did this. The boating on the lake was another pleasant surprise. The lake is a birdwatchers paradise. Hiking around the property was great as well. In summary, Peggy and Lee provide a property that accomodates just about everyone's tastes. If they do not have it or you need it, Lee is just a phone call away. We are from Washington, D.C., a long ways away, but we WILL make it a point to return here. Thank you Peggy and Lee for a stay that was beyond our imagination.

We stayed at the Bungalow, which was the most fantastic Log cabin and view we could have imagined. The Property was wonderful! I would highly recommend staying here if you are in the area. You are very close to Mesa Verde.

If you want absolute class with a welcoming, relaxed homey touch and eclectic cabins - Willowtail Springs is the place. I can't recommend it highly enough. You will leave with a lighter step, a calm mind and new friends. Less than 10 miles off the road and you are in a wilderness of trees and lake and birds everywhere. You can't help but feel like you met old friends with Peggy and Lee. But, if you just need to escape - appreciate the land and be alone - fear not, you will find that also. GO! NOW! Enjoy.

Our experience at this B&B could not have been more outstanding- from the locally grown breakfast items, to the serenity of it's location, this establishment is an impressively hospitable haven with friendly staff!

Our stay there was quite literally the beginning of a life changing adventure. Absolute serinity, peace, and relaxation. When you need to get away from it all, this is the place to go.

This is the most beautiful place I've ever been. I took my husband here for his birthday, and also to heal from a recent loss my family experience. I really think this place provides the quiet and peace that people need in these stressful times. I will return as soon as I can.

The ambiance at the cottages and the grounds is very welcoming, and eclectic. A wonderful mix of art and natures beauty. Peggy and Lee, the owners, could not have been more welcoming, hospitable, or generous!
