Our first visit to Azure Gate was surprisingly wonderful. Located in a lovely part of town, near restaurants but far enough away from crowds. Dennis & Christine are the most gracious hosts and immediately made us feel welcome, including giving us all sorts of references to local attractions that appealed to us. The house and property are terrific, but the real attraction is Dennis' cooking. Gourmet breakfasts every morning! Oh, and Dennis' nature photos are in themselves worth the trip. We will definitely be back!

We had the opportunity to return to Azure Gate at the beginning of this month. We've been coming here for the past number of years, usually in the spring. The winter brought amazing skies and wintering birds. Once again, we stayed in the Catalina Guest House. We consider this our home away from home. It is a beautiful and very comfortable 1 bedroom home. We had a wonderful visit with the owners, Dennis and Christine. Even though we've been coming here for at least 8-9 years, Dennis managed to make a number of new delicious breakfasts that we've never had before. It is always a treat to try his new creations. As always, this is a beautiful and relaxing place to stay. We will return in April. This is the best B & B we've ever stayed at.

Our wonderful visit to Tucson was greatly enhanced by this amazing B &B owned and operated by two artists with a real flair for knowing what will please their visitors. I can't imagine how anything could have been more welcoming and beautiful. When breakfast was presented, guests run to get their phones to make pictures! Unbelievable! Thanks again to our hosts Dennis and Christine!!

This area of the Southwest is lovely - lots of wildlife, hiking, and scenic vistas. The Azure Gate B&B was comfortable, beautiful, and clean. And the proprietors were so flexible -- they let us switch days several times, and they accommodated my husband's dietary limitations. I would definitely go back.

Top chef like attention to presentation and flavors for breakfast. Interesting and engaging owners who really care about the service they provide. Quaint rooms in beautifully maintained Sonoran Desert setting with hiking in nearby Rincon and Catalina Mountains. A really great experience.

We only had a short time at The Azure Gate, but we found it a lovely oasis and a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of Tucson. We hope our travels bring us back there when we can spend more time. Highly recommended.

The owners have taken such care to make their property so lovely and their guest houses and home so beautifully decorated, clean, etc. And the delicious/gourmet breakfasts are a delight. I have some serious food allergies that they were completely willing to work with, and I was very touched. They are wonderful people and give much thought and care to their property and guests. This was our fifth time at The Azure Gate and it was just as good as before. Christine and Dennis are the best hosts you can imagine. The Breakfast that Dennis produces is truly superb. We book the Catalina house and it is perfect. We stayed for an extra day so 8 nights this time. There is a lot to do in the area or you could just take the day quietly and I used the pool for hours each day. My wife and I are now planning a family holiday to Azure gate were we will book the entire place and take our kids and grandson to paradise. Thanks Christine and Dennis.

We loved the grounds and the quiet. Breakfast was incredible and not only was the presentation worth taking your camera to the table to snap a shot of the French toast platter, but every dish was delicious for the 3 mornings we stayed. One of the things that we enjoy at bed and breakfast places is the rooms, the breakfast table, and the privacy respectfully given. Azure Gate has it all.

This is the best B & B on the planet! We have been visiting Azure Gate since 2007, at least once a year, on a few occasions it's been twice. Dennis and Christine are wonderful hosts. They are extremely knowledgable about the area and all the activities. Dennis breakfasts are fantastic. Fresh ingredients, fabulous combination of flavors and beautiful presentation. Dennis' breakfast are filling enough to keep us going until dinner. After a day of hiking, sometimes it is nice to just do something simple back at the casitas for dinner and not have to go out for dinner. We've stayed in both casitas and love having the kitchens, for that reason. Next year we will return for a week of winter birding and spring birding.

More than a B & B - the Azure Gate is a place to rest, recharge and enjoy up close the amazing Tucson desert. The Catalina guesthouse has been our home away from home for twelve years. We have shared this wonderful property with many new and returning guests as well as the birds, bees and bobcats. Our friendship with hosts Dennis and Christine and other regular guests will keep us returning as long as we are able.

I arrived in Tucson, at The Azure Gate Bed & Breakfast. It was a very nice sunny day. The owner's Dennis & Christine Widman were there to meet and show me around. The Azure Gate is a beautiful, and spectacular place to stay. The servise is excellent. The rooms are spacious, and beautifully done. The location easy to get to. The amenities close and easy to get to. The breakfast you get is World Class. There is lots sight seeing, to be done. A wonderful place spend a vacation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Azure Gate and would highly recommend it to others. Location wise it was accessible to all we wanted to do in the Tucson area. Coming from Montana in early March we enjoyed sitting around the pool, breakfast on the patio and exploring the property. Pool was still too cold for swimming! Dennis and Christine are great hosts and their breakfasts are outstanding. What a treat!

We have flown to Tucson and stayed at Azure Gate, now, for seven years and are signed up for the next three. Of course it is a respite from East Coast winters. But it is "home". The hosts are attentive, the breakfasts unbelievable and varied feasts, the conversation compelling, the weather dependable (usually), the scenery not to be excelled. By now we see old friends, and still are introduced to new ones with whom we share stories about the numerous attractions. But, finally, it is Christine and Dennis and their lovely home. Azure Gate is the B & B in Tucson that is not to be missed.

I was so fortunate to have received my stay at Azure Gate as a Christmas gift from my wife. Another couple went with us and we had the two "inside" rooms which were just wonderful. Our dates were at the end of Jan and 1st of Feb. It's such a great location with so many sights a short distance away especially if you enjoy hiking, birding, beautiful scenary or just relaxing. Dennis and Christine were wonderful hosts and made us feel like we were in our own home. Dennis fixed us a great breakfast each morning and you could tell he loved his cooking!! Living only a couple of hours away we definately plan on returning. Since this was a gift I didn't know the cost but my wife said it was similar to others where we have stayed. She agreed it was outstanding. John H. Maricopa, AZ

I have stayed at the Azure Gate B&B twice now, and plan to come back every winter for years to come. I am an avid hiker and the place is convenient to many hiking trails. It is also a bit far from the congested center of Tucson, which I appreciate. BUT within a few minutes by car from shopping and dining. So it is really convenient. The breakfasts (brunch food really) are divine and always beautifully presented. I also enjoy meeting the other guests, and chatting with the hosts too (of course).

We Loved, Loved our stay here. The B & B has a charming , charming atmosphere. The grounds gave us lots of opportunity to take photos. The room was excellent . The food beyond delicious. I highly reccomend a stay here . Dennis and Christine are superb in their knowledge of areas to go and see and wildlife. Dennis being a fine photographer has wonderful knowledge of photo opportunities near by. You are so close to many hiking areas and you won't lack things to do or see. The Azure Gate was a wonderful 2 night stay. You will not be dissapointed. Thank you to our Host Dennis and Hostess Christine our stay was one to remember. Their Hospitality goes beyond measure.

We cannot stop talking about our stay at The Azure Gate and how relaxing and gorgeous a place it is. We had just one night booked for a quick getaway while with family in Tucson, but we were as warmly welcomed by our hosts as if we'd been visiting for years. The house, grounds, and our room were lovely and comfortable, and over an incredible breakfast the next morning we learned from other guests around the table that there are indeed many guests who have been coming back for years to The Azure Gate. We hope to join their ranks - this is a very special place.

The Azure Gate Bed and Breakfast was superb! Our hosts, Dennis and Christine went out of their way with the delightful breakfast, providing directions and maps on various spots to visit and their friendliness was outstanding. The casita we stayed in was private and stocked with everything you can imagine. We had all the amenities including snacks, drinks and a well-stocked kitchen. The patio was so calming and the surroundings were beautiful. The weather was perfect and the bed was comfortable. I highly recommend this for a perfect get-away. Dennis and Christine fed us a 5 star breakfast that we will always remember. Can't wait to get back.

This was my 2nd visit to the Azure Gate - my husband's first - and it fulfilled all I had promised him and more. This visit brought fresh experiences, including a moonlit meander through the cactus garden, mornings in our own sun-filled apartment (with the most amazing mural), and an extensive survey of their fascinating variety of desert plants. The attributes that most evoke the feelings of joy and serenity I associate with the Azure Gate are the special gifts of Dennis and Christine. The exquisite taste everywhere evident in the house and garden combine with their personal warmth and intelligence to heighten the pleasure that sunshine, great comfort, quiet, repose, and nature bring. Light, colour, unique artwork, birdsong, Christine's laughter, Dennis's imaginative breakfasts, the intelligent conversations with the other guests, all combine to explain why everyone who comes here wants to return. Christine is very detail-minded and seems to enjoy thinking of ways to make one's stay perfect - whether the particularly rich hue of a bouquet of roses, or the tube of sunscreen thoughtfully left in the bathroom for forgetful guests. Having now visited both as a solo traveller and as a couple, I can say that the Azure Gate is wonderfully well suited for either. If you stay in one of the 2 guest rooms in the house you can fully appreciate the beautifully appointed and spacious common areas, with music and books available. In a guesthouse, you have access to everything, plus perfect privacy and comfort. I first stayed in the beautiful Sabino Room, with its painted furniture, art, and wonderful stained glass window that catches the dawn light. This time we were in the lovely Santa Ana guesthouse, attached to the main house yet independent of it and provided with all amenities.

For two days and nights we enjoyed a desert retreat to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. What a delightful time we had relaxing by the pool and feasting on the tranquility and serenity of this desert oasis. Our hosts were extremely gracious and attentive to any need. The gourmet breakfasts were unique and surprising as well as delicious. The accommodations were classically Southwestern with whimsical and interesting artistic touches everywhere. We were very grateful for our lovely get-away and plan to return to the "Azure Gate" for another visit to this jewel in the user-friendly desert. The Bowkers

Amazing place. Dennis and Christine have created a wonder in the desert and it should be your go-to place if you are staying in Tucson. Wonderfully appointed, quiet location, fantastic full breakfast concocted by Dennis every morning. I stayed in the Catalina House which has a lovely downstairs sitting room, desk, half-kitchen and full bath. The bed is upstairs in a loft - amazingly comfortable bed, great sleeping weather at night (of course, it was April and lovely). The only hit on this house, and for me it wasn't a huge issue, is that the bed is up a bit of a dicey set of spiral stairs. If you are unsteady or have huge suitcases to move, go with the other house or rooms. Not a knock for me, just FYI. Great, great place.

We returned in May for our second visit to the Azure Gate. It is a lovely oasis. The location is far enough off the Catalina Highway to be private and quiet, yet convenient for driving to any part of town. We very much enjoyed seeing Christine and Dennis again. We stayed in the Santa Ana guest house. It has a private entrance with its own parking and patio. We felt like we were away from the world, yet the French doors on the other side of our guest house opened right out to the breakfast area and pool. The Santa Ana is enchanting with a perfect combination of privacy and convenience; we wouldn’t want to be late for breakfast! The breakfasts are wonderful! You owe it to yourself to stay here.

All that one hopes for in a bed & breakfast...charming local decor, comfort, a bit of luxury, great breakfast, and common space in which to relax after a day of exploring. Christine and Dennis are passionate about this land and all of its plant and animal life. They were generous and knowledgeable with suggestions and binders of directions for exploring the Tucson area. Great library, Dennis' wildlife photos, and a huge collection of movies to borrow are also available. I think we now have seen more, and know more about the area than the family members we visited who moved here two months ago. My only hesitation is selfish... if we come back to visit, I don't want them to be full and unable to accommodate us, because you also read the well deserved rave reviews and have filled up the rooms!

I don't have enough adjectives to describe what a perfect, lovely inn Azure Gate is. Stay in the Catalina Guest house - immaculate, fabulous view, wonderful value. We have finally found our home away from home for our frequent visits to Tucson. East Tucson is so lovely, and Azure Gate is private and feels secluded, but is just a heartbeat from Saguaro National Monument and all the best of Tucson. For you musical folks, check out the Folk Shop on North Campbell - what a trip!

If you plan to vacation in Tucson, a stay at the Azure Gate B&B will delight you. This year, we stayed at the Azure Gate from March 22nd to April 21st, and still marvel at how good this B&B is. Dennis and Christine are wonderful hosts that make people feel at home and delight in sharing their B&B and Tucson with guests. As well, it is all the little touches that help make this B&B special. The binders in each room and casita highlighting what is worth seeing in the Tucson and local restaurants that are worth visiting. As well, there are directions and how long each trip will take. The breakfasts are so wonderful, that guests regularly take pictures of what is being served before starting to eat. There is a pool surrounded by beautiful grounds with lots of areas to sit and relax. The Azure Gate is so special the guests keep coming back year after year, which gives you the feeling that you are visiting friends

Our first visit to Azure Gate was in 2007. We've returned every year, sometimes twice. Our visits have become more like visiting family or long time friends. Dennis and Christine are fabulous hosts and take such good care of their guests. We have only stayed in the Catalina Guest House and the Santa Ana Guest House. We love them both. They are very comfortably appointed, and have kitchens, that have everything that we need. When we arrive everything is immaculate, a bottle of wine waiting in the kitchen. However, the real treat is the breakfasts that Dennis and Christine prepare. They are like no other breakfast you will enjoy anywhere else. On this trip, I was impressed that Dennis prepared at least 4 breakfasts that were new to us. He is always updating his menu choices. Our final breakfast for this trip was Easter Sunday. Dennis prepared an Easter buffet that covered their sideboard with scrumptious food. It was absolutely fantastic! I can't say enough about Dennis, Christine and Azure Gate. If you are in Tucson, you should definitely stay here. And if you do, you will return just like the rest of us.

Dennis and Christine have created the perfect B&B experience. In fact, after staying at Azure Gate, it will be hard to stay at any other B&B ever again. The breakfasts are extraordinary. Dennis puts so much care, thought, and sheer culinary skill into making the meal truly spectacular and nearly every guest was compelled to photograph their breakfast! Christine is also a font of information about Tucson. The two of them have prepared incredibly helpful binders about everything you could possibly want to know about Tucson!! Dennis & Christine were also tremendously helpful in terms of recommending fantastic hikes and nature walks and helping us see (and ID) birds & other wildlife on their property. The atmosphere and conversations were truly great. The last day we had an early flight to catch, so they prepared a lavish "continental" breakfast for us! The continental breakfast was tastier and more plentiful than what you get at most b&b's! We couldn't believe it. We can't wait to return to Tucson and stay at AZURE B&B again!

We spent 10 blissful days at Azure Gate in February and have nothing but great things to say. The location is idyllic - in the Sonoran Desert surrounded by fabulous mountains, desert vegetation and local wildlife. The property is charming and authentic and includes several acres of lovely plantings. We were lucky to book our time in the Santa Ana casita and felt like we were in our own private oasis. But it's the proprietors, Dennis and Christine, who make this experience so special. In addition to being a talented wildlife photographer, Dennis is a top-notch chef so breakfasts are pure perfection. He cooks up dishes that could be served any time of day but with a breakfast twist (one morning we had Chateau Briand - with eggs, of course!) We ate so well at at breakfast we never needed lunch. Christine is an expert on area and was more than happy to share her deep knowledge to make our daily excursions really special. And I suspect it was she who stocked our unit with trail mix and chocolates! We feel like we not only had the best of service but we made new friends. I can't imagine booking anywhere else in Tucson now that we've been spoiled by Dennis and Christine.

We returned for our fourth visit in January 2014, and had a superb four days with Dennis and Christine. This just has to be one of the very best B & B's anywhere. From the decor, attention to detail, truly amazing breakfasts, wonderful grounds, and outstanding and helpful hospitality, this place is just first rate in every regard. I especially love strolling the grounds in the morning. You feel as if you are miles from anywhere in the beautiful Sonoran desert (slightly groomed for safer strolling), when in fact you are minutes away from groceries, drug stores, restaurants, etc. We love Tucson, and this wonderful place is a big part of that love.

The Azure Gate is an excellent B&B. Located on a quiet street with five acres of landscaped property, the Azure Gate is convenient to museums, restaurants, bicycling and hiking trails, and drives to nearby mountains. Accommodations are attractively decorated with Southwest touches, and range in size from comfortable rooms with a queen size bed and private bath to larger guest houses which have a bedroom, bath, sitting room, and small kitchen. This is our second visit to the Azure Gate, both visits in winter. The courtyard with its inviting swimming pool, garden, sitting areas, and barbecue grill makes us want to come back in warm weather. We especially like the hospitality of our hosts, Dennis and Christine, who make guests feel very much at home. And Dennis' gourmet breakfasts are fabulous! The Azure Gate is a winner.

Beautiful desert scenery, wonderful welcome, outstanding breakfasts, lovely southwest accommodation and great recommendations for Tucson sightseeing: the Azure Gate was everything we could ask for. Christine and Dennis are so welcoming and the breakfasts were, by far, one of the best we've experienced in a B&B. Azure Gate is conveniently close to many of Tucson's wonderful attractions and experiences. Everyday was a glorious adventure. Our room had a sweet little patio that enjoyed the morning sun. The library and living room allowed us to relax in a southwest styled home that made us feel that we were experiencing an authentic desert abode. We will be back because there is still so much to see and a lovely home to enjoy. Room Tip: If you are thinking of being amorous while staying at the Azure Gate, ask for the one of the guest houses.

We stayed at The Azure Gate for three days and nights and had a relaxing, wonderful stay. I read great reviews online about The Azure Gate and I looked at the photos, but you never know until you arrive what it’s really like. I was more than pleased! Our room was beautifully decorated in southwestern décor with lovely little touches everywhere. Our room’s French doors opened up on a lovely private patio with a view of the night stars. During the day the sunlight and breezes streamed through the gauzy curtains and cast a lovely glow. We woke each morning to wonderful smells from the kitchen where Dennis whipped up an outstanding gourmet breakfast. Christine’s china, goblets, and serving dishes make the experience even more delightful. Dennis describes each of his delicious creations. What a lovely way to start the day. One morning breakfast was served by the lovely outdoor swimming pool. The Azure Gate is surrounded by beautiful grounds with cactus, native plants, birds, and other wildlife. It is peaceful and lovely. Both Christine and Dennis are warm and hospitable. They went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. We had to leave the morning of our last day without Dennis’ culinary creation. However, Christine served us fresh fruit, goblets of fresh juice (served daily), a variety of cereals and granola, yogurt, on a lovely set of blue and white china, and even lit candles! Oh, the coffee is delicious, too. Christine and Dennis are originally from Seattle! I think our stay at Dennis and Christine’s B&B was the best part of our trip. I highly recommend The Azure Gate and look forward to a return visit!

This year I visited Azure Gate for the fifth time. I love this place and can't seem to stay away. Christine and Dennis make you feel at home in their beautiful house. Each bedroom has it's own style. I stayed in the "Sabino Room" furnished Spanish style even the bathroom. It is a very quiet room, where you can get a good night's rest, after being on the go all day. There are a lot to do in Tucson and surroundings. I liked to hike at the Sabino Canyon and Mount Lemon and and then come back and cool off in the beautiful pool located in their Idyllic garden. There were a lot of other places I visited. Christine and Dennis are very helpful in giving directions and even help planing the day. Before leaving in the morning, breakfast was served, which was out of this world. First a fruit and berry dish and then the main dish. All the dishes were elegantly presented. Before we started eating Christine and Dennis explained how they prepared them and the ingredients. Everything was delicious. I hope to be able to go there again.

I found Azure Gate B&B online while searching for an intimate but unpretentious one night stay in Tuscon. I could not be happier about my choice. The proprietors were accessible, extremely personable, and full of well informed resources about things to do around Tuscon and beyond. My personal interests in desert ecology and birdwatching were met with enthusiasm, and both Christine and Dennis provided a wealth of great suggestions for worthwhile points of interest. It was obvious they enjoy their hosting role, and this made for an extremely comfortable and pleasant stay. From the time of my initial telephone booking to my greeting upon arrival it was obvious that my tastes and interests were of value in making for the best stay possible. I felt almost a little embarrassed about not having more time to enjoy the surroundings and hospitality. I highly recommend the Azure Gate to anybody seeking a serene, relaxed and pampering stay without a lot of fuss. I hope to return and make the Azure Gate my home base for future holidays in Southern Arizona.

In late April of this year, my husband and I spent two nights at the Azure Gate Bed and Breakfast Inn in Tucson, AZ, and it was a highlight of our time in southern Arizona. We enjoyed not only the accommodations and setting but also Christine and Dennis Widman, who are sincerely welcoming hosts and fascinating individuals. We stayed in the Saguaro Room, which was attractively decorated, offered lots of closet space, and had its own private courtyard with small table and two chairs, perfect for morning coffee or evening cocktails, or simply for sitting and listening to the wide variety of bird calls. The inn’s common areas included a library, offering books as well as DVDs (each room has its own TV); a large living room off the spacious kitchen; and a dining room where we had a gourmet breakfast both mornings, professionally prepared, beautifully presented, and absolutely scrumptious. We even photographed our plates before we devoured the five-star fixings—more like a dinner entrée than a breakfast. Off the kitchen and dining room is an expansive patio, with another dining table, private sitting areas, and an inviting, crystal-clear swimming pool. The grounds surrounding the inn are landscaped with native plants, which we especially appreciated since we went to Arizona to see the desert—not mowed lawns of green grass and plantings that require heavy watering. The natural setting also attracts a variety of wildlife, including long-eared desert cottontails and a nice diversity of birds, from lesser goldfinches and gila woodpeckers to gambles quail and hummingbirds. The Widman’s respect for the natural world, genuinely friendly demeanor, and knowledge of the immediate as well as more distant parts of southern Arizona were a perfect combination, and we look forward to going back to Azure Gate time and time again. Please check out their website to get a closer look at their unique and extraordinarily special place. Sandy and Meade; Hancock, New Hampshire

It is not often when you go on vacation that it is like going home, but that's what is so special about the Azure Gate B&B in Tucson. The location is east Tucson, just outside the city limits in a quiet residential neighbourhood. There are two rooms in the house and two casita's for the guests, situated on five acres of land. The privacy, tranquility and peacefullness of the Azure Gate are wonderful, but what makes it a delight is the owners Dennis and Christine Widman. They love running a B&B and it shows. They truly care about their guests and do whatever they can to help them have a pleasant stay in Tucson. Whether you want to be active, or just relax, give the Azure Gate a try, you will not be disappointed.

The Azure Gate was an oasis of tranquil delight for me. The azure gates and adobe walls enclose an idyllic haven. The courtyard features ornamental plantings and striking artifacts, while the spreading palm and other trees are reflected in the swimming pool. (The pool is unheated.) Indoors, the decor is gracious, with rich, warm, soft colours. interesting artwork and antiques, and a selection of Dennis's wildlife photographs. Possibly the best part is the unobtrusive friendliness of the hosts. I stayed in the very pretty Sabino room, with its painted furniture, stained glass eastern window and skylit bathroom (roomy shower, no tub). The southwest-themed Saguaro room is smaller but with its own intimate adobe-walled patio and a larger bathroom (dual sinks) beside the bedroom door in the secluded hallway.. The house is roomy, so there is plenty of privacy. There is also a guest house with kitchenette, sleeping loft, and separate entrance attached to the house, and a free-standing casita on the grounds outside the courtyard walls The amazing grounds and abundant birdsong were heaven. .The location is on the outskirts of Tucson, along the route to Mt. Lemmon and an easy drive into the city.

I felt right at home the minute I walked through the door. Owners Dennis & Christine are truly wonderful people with a beautiful home. I stayed in the Sabino room for a week. The room is extremely comfortable; as are all other common areas of the house. After hiking all day long, I couldn't wait to get back "home" and rest at the outside patio. And the breakfast Dennis cooks is gourmet. I really enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend it.

My wife and I were recently on vacation in Tucson and had the pleasure of staying at the Azure Gate for 3 nights. Christina was very welcoming and helpful, while Dennis made simply the best and most interesting breakfasts we've ever had at a B&B. We treated the B&B as our oasis in the desert, and look forward to coming back for a longer stay next time. Thank you, Christina and Dennis.

This was our first trip to Arizona and we were most fortunate to choose the Azure Gate as our place to stay. Our hosts, Dennis and Christine Widman, were friendly and warm and ready to help us in any way they could. They had assembled massive loose leaf books of information on the area. Two we used the most and were most valuable were one on restaurants, with directions and menus, and one on hiking trails in the many state and national parks that surround the area. Breakfasts here are unique, gourmet, and outstanding. During our stay, every guest left empty plates at their places. The setting of this residence has to be experienced. The property is beautifully landscaped with Saguaro and a great variety of other cactii and trees, with an impressive view of the Catalina Mountains.. There is a large patio with a beautiful pool, lounges, and plenty of other places to sit and read, plan one's next adventure, or use a laptop. Azure Gate is a very short drive from a major roadway but is a very quiet spot at every hour, including at night. We found its location very convenient to locations in Tuscon and in every direction. There are many good restaurants that are located nearby - which we appreciated after a long day of touring.

The lovely Azure Gate B&B welcomed us in. It was our first desert travel, as we come from the Cascade Mountains of the Pacific Northwest. The natural setting of Azure Gate made learning about saguaro cactus forest and bird life fascinating. We found kindred spirits to learn about the Tucson area. Their wonderfully peaceful lodging gave us the best sleeps we’ve had away from home in years. AND THE FOOD!!! It is simply the best, freshest, delicate spices. We also had unique coincidences, especially in the Arts – their works by Pierr Morgan are fabulous, simple, deep, rich – my favorite being “Oasis” in orange-rust and blue-violet. Thank you Dennis and Christine for hosting us. We hope to spend time with you in the future. The Murphy’s.

Dennis and Christine and the Azure gate have been our welcoming hosts for five mid-winter visits to Tucson. We have signed up for our sixth in 2014 and look forward to the amazing breakfasts, the energizing conversation, the congenial and caring inn keepers and their beautiful home. There is an abundance of natural flora, fauna, and geological marvels in every direction with the unique landscape of Tucson, its mountains, and its plains. This is not to be missed!

I borrowed the title from an old out of print western classic about a trapper who winters out west, but it fits. We first stayed at the Azure Gate in 2006 and have made NINE visits there year after year. It is hard to say enough good about this experience, beginning with Dennis and Christine, the facilities and finally the food. We always need a break from the rigors of a busy life and a long journey of elderly parent care. More years we don't do very much when we arrive at Azure Gate - we've been to the Desert Museum, up Mt. Lemmon, etc so just visiting typical haunts (with Dennis and Christine's lawn chairs) and our current favorite book lets us wile away hours in the pursuit of quietness and refreshment which we always seem to need!

This is our 4th time to stay at the Azure Gate, and we have never been disappointed.. The rooms are beautifully appointed, spotless, beautiful grounds, and friendly, warm atmosphere. The best part, of course is he wonderful breakfast prepared each morning, from the beautiful dinnerware, fresh flowers, candles and the exquisite breakfast. Dennis & Christine make you feel at home in their home... there is always a cake for dessert in the evening when you return from sightseeing or working...it is very relaxing to sit out in the poolside patio and watch the colors change on the nearby mountains.. we are looking forward to returning next year in February... My partner and I always stay with Christine and Dennis at the Azure Gate. Welcoming and friendly - and ensure guest privacy, too. Breakfast is more like a gourmet multi-course meal. Great comfort and charming and tasteful guests spaces. Amenities like beverages and snacks. Location is easily accessible to parks and mountains - and easily accessible to good restaurants, bookstore, etc. We would never stay anywhere else while in Tucson.

Simply, a delight. My husband and I were lucky enough to stay for 3 wonderful nights at the Azure Gate. The grounds are beautiflly managed with walking trails and a tranquil swimming pool. Dennis is a true gourmet, and is so happy to share his talents with us lucky patrons. Christiane and Dennis and warm , friendly and so knowledgeable. We felt very comfortable during our stay, and knew we could ask for recommendations regarding music venues, restaurants, history and nature exploration in the southern Arizona area. The house and rooms were clean, quiet and decorated with an artistic flair. It is obvious that Christine and Dennis are in the right profession....they love what they do, and it shows!

We returned to the Azure Gate because we couldn't stay away. We love to travel, but this place keeps calling us back, and I'm sure we'll return. It truly is an oasis. It is beautiful and peaceful and comforting. The other reviews say it all better than I can. Personally, I highly recommend a visit to the Azure Gate if you're in Tucson, or if you're just looking for a place to relax and be refreshed. We've stayed in the Santa Ana and Catalina Guest Houses. The Azure Gate experience is a delight!

A vacation in Arizona should include a stay at the Azure Gate in Tuscon. Great location with superb accomadations to enjoy. Hosts Dennis and Christine are the best!!! Your stay of a few days or weeks along with an incredible breakfast prepared and served by Dennis will be an everlasting memory. By far our favorite B&B.

The Azure Gate Bed and Breakfast is fantabulous and Christine and Dennis are wonderful people! The purpose of our visit was to allow for a much needed fresh and peaceful connection among us, as husband and wife. All that is The Azure Gate Bed and Breakfast certainly allowed for such a fantastic visit. We appreciated everything from the overall cleanliness and the maintenance of the grounds, to the morning culinary delights, and our nice and cozy room with a comfortable bed for us to rest on. The availability of light snacks and beverages is such a nice touch too. We hope to able to return and again enjoy. In taking as much as possible into consideration, we also feel that The Azure Gate Bed and Breakfast is of good and solid overall value. We recommend for anyone that’s interested in a bed and breakfast in the Tucson, AZ area to definitely consider Christine and Dennis and The Azure Gate Bed and Breakfast.

I am so happy that I chose the Azure Gate for my personal retreat. I only had an extra long week end for a mini vacation from work. I felt completely renewed and pampered after staying here. It is a peaceful and safe retreat for the traveller who would like to be surrounded by nature. I awoke to a gourmet breakfast served outdoors poolside every morning. This is a place you can come to and make plans as you go. There is a small library of information on local places to see along with detailed directions on how to get there. I truly felt that this Inn is a retreat created with heart. Dennis and Christine's artistic touch to the Inn made me feel inspired to want to travel and explore and to bring home the feeling of the American Southwest with me. I enjoyed my yoga, taiji, and journaling every morning to Sunrise. There are five acres of grounds to walk and explore the beauty of the desert landscape. I will definitely stay again! Michele D

great place to relax or access the surrounding area. Dennis and Christine are warm and welcoming and show a genuine interest in their guests. The property is unique and a great example of the desert landscape. The chirping birds and private pool area were great for having breakfast or a swim. Dennis's breakfasts were top notch (gourmet really) and served with a sense of joy in sharing his creations.

Always great conversation around the breakfast table with other guest and even sharing the days adventures in the evening. The garden and pool are a treat. Never like to leave and are always ready to book a room the following year if we can. Sue & Geoff

The Azure Gate B&B was the highlight of our trip to Arizona in July. Christine and Dennis were warm and welcoming hosts. The breakfasts were amazing, beginning with wonderfully complex aromas wafting from the kitchen and grill and ending with sighs of contentment around the table. We stayed in the charming, colorful, and quiet Santa Ana guest house. We also enjoyed the beautiful guest areas in the main house, especially the library and sunroom. The exquisite use of color in the rooms (and on our plates!) was inspired. Don’t think that Arizona in the summer should be avoided. The house was cool and the pool was refreshing. We loved walking the grounds to examine several kinds of blooming cacti; getting a brief view of a roadrunner and a Cooper’s hawk; seeing and hearing hummingbirds, white-winged doves, and finches at the feeders; exclaiming at our discoveries of delightful pieces of art in wonderfully surprising places; the faint scent of creosote bush after it rained; and watching thunderclouds build in the afternoon. We are already planning a return visit.

Our trip to Tucson would not have been the same without The Azure Gate Experience. The attention to detail was impeccable, from the daily breakfast to the amenities in our private villa. Dennis and Christine could not have been more gracious and the information made available to us for exploring Tucson went beyond what any desert adventurer could want. I would make it a point to stay there again and strongly recommend it to family, friends, fellow travelers and anybody interested in an authentic and upscale Tucson Foothills experience.

We have been fortunate to travel all over the world and my wife and I would rate the Azure Gate Bed and Breakfast as one of the finest places we have ever stayed. The atmosphere of the property is quiet and serene with the only exception being the wonderful sounds of birds singing in the morning to help you awaken to a wonderful new day. After a wonderful nights sleep we were anxious to eat one of the wonderful breakfast we had heard and read so much about. The food was exquisite and exceeded our expectations. We were able experience a chicken crepes with a fresh vegetables in saute sauce one morning and Belgian pecan waffles with pear sausages cooked to perfection another morning. Both meals included fresh fruit a choice of tasty drinks. During the day we ventured out to Sabina Canyon and drove to the top of Mount Lemon, both sites that we would recommend for visitors to see. After a long day of sight seeing we spent time swimming and lounging around the pool. Dennis and Christine are incredible hosts and accessible at all times. The facility has a music room and library with great books and an extensive video selection. Brochures of local attractions are available and Dennis and Christine provide door to door directions on how to get to where you want to go. We felt genuinely cared about as people more than just customers checking in for a few days. We were hoping for a wonderful get away, a time to d-stress, and to find a little bit of heaven on earth. We found it at the Azure Gate Bed and Breakfast and would recommend it without reservation to anyone else who wants the same experience.

Simply the best!! We stayed four days at Azure Gate and wished we could have stayed four months. We were in the Santa Ana guest house which was immaculate and well stocked to meet our every need. Hosts Christine and Dennis couldn't have been more gracious and helpful, they made our stay a delight - and then there are the magnificent breakfasts. Rack of lamb with egg, what can I say? Pecan waffles, salmon with egg on bagel, and a Tuscan (not Tucson) frittata - you won't need lunch after these gourmet breakfasts. The house and grounds are gorgeous, an oasis for sure. The enclosed 5 acres is a nature center unto itself. Dennis has photos of the wild life if you don't see the critters yourself. Why go hiking in the desert when you can see the same thing in Azure Gate's back yard?

We have stayed at many B & B's all across the U.S., but Azure Gate is the one we return to year after year. We love this place!

Azure Gate was recommended to me by friends a few years ago. I cannot help myself, I just keep coming back. It is because each stay is as good as the first one. Dennis and Christine are so well-coming and greet all the guests with open arms and make you feel at home. If you need help with anything, they are there for you. The rooms are beautifully furnished and very clean. The breakfasts are out of this world and elegantly presented. Before we started eating Dennis explained how the meal was prepared. The guests has breakfast at the same table family style and while enjoying our breakfast, we had a nice conversation learning to know each other. When the weather allows the breakfast is served outside on the patio by the beautiful garden and pool. After a day's hike, sightseeing or just relaxing in the garden the pool is refreshing. I felt so good staying at Azure Gate. It is a real treat.

My wife and I have stayed at Azure Gate at least once a year for the last ten years. We relish our trips to Tucson and our stays with the Widmans. The rooms are excellent, the location very desirable, the hosts warm and friendly, and the breakfasts sumptuous. The one thing that might not be apparent is that we have always taken great pleasure in the interactions with other guests. Breakfasts are made even more pleasant by the conversations that evolve. I suspect that the food has some magic ingredients that keeps people musing and laughing for at least an hour each morning.

The Azure Gate is a lovely house, in a beautiful quiet setting with pleasant rooms and very comfortable beds. Dennis is a master chef, serving breakfasts as visually spectacular as they are delicious. In addition, he is a very talented wildlife photographer. Christine is warm and welcoming and a wonderful conversationalist with wide-ranging interests. If you are not the talking-to-strangers type, however, she in no way intrudes. Our stay there was delightful; we were even lucky enough to extend our stay by a day, due to someone else's cancellation. We'll be back next March.

In February 2012 we made our fourth visit to the Azure Gate and we have already signed up for a week in 2013! The Azure Gate is perfectly set in the outer reachs of Tucsonn, a delight to the eye with its enclosed and desert-landscaped grounds, its patios, and its interconnecting interior rooms. You'll find lots of information about sites to visit--from local ones to canyons 100 miles distant. There is an enviable collection of films, if you ever experience a rainy day. There are published books with hot Dennis Widman's amazing photos of flor and fauna, and Christine Widman's stories for children. Dennis and Christine are welcoming, generous, livfely, and informative innkeepers, always creating a comfortable environment for their guests at the lavish breakfasts they serve each morning. Azure Gate is in the northeastern corner of Tucson, near Mt. Lemmon, Saguaro National Park East, and Interstate 10 to points farther east and south. The Desert Museum and other points west are across the city, and into the Tucson mountains. If you live in a city, you'll wonder at the always visible horizons and endless changing of the sky throughout the day and evening.

I have been to the Azure Gate 3 times now and never been disappointed. In fact, it's always been quite the opposite. The hosts/owners Christine and Dennis are predictably warm and welcoming. They are ready with suggestions for fun and entertainment, whether it be a great local hike, or a terrific movie from their comprehensive collection of DVDs and VCR tapes. The "breakfasts" are enticing, imaginative, colorful and perpetually delicious. One morning we had Belgium waffles with pecans and warm, real maple syrup, with an array of delightful slices of kiwi, apple, mango. A very tasty chicken sausage rounded out the meal. There's also a fabulous trail mix at the ready and tempting chocolates to satisfy the fussiest sweet tooth. Surrounding the buildings themselves are the well tended, poetically beautiful grounds. Perfect for an early morning walk, or basking in the late day sun before sunset. I would highly recommend the Azure Gate to anyone. The views of mountains are often so clear, you feel you could reach out and touch them.

My husband and I stayed for four nights in the Sabino Room at Azure Gate and enjoyed every minute of our visit. We arrived with little time before hand to plan our outings, and Christine was ready with advice, as we walked through the gate, with tour guides and field guides, a binder of printed directions to things, recommendations for meals and hikes, and advice on how not to get pricked by a cactus or surprise a mountain lion! Breakfast every morning was delicious and nutritious and enough to keep us going all day with nothing but a granola bar and fruit from the snack counter. The location is excellent for visiting great sites like Saguaro National Park, Sabino Canyon, and not too far from San Xavier Del Bac Church, and downtown Tucson. Our fellow visitors at the breakfast table were knowledgeable, interesting and friendly, and had all returned to the inn for many years in a row, which was easy to understand. The home and grounds are quirky and wonderful. Our room shared a library with another filled with books and movie dvds to borrow. At breakfast you watch hummingbirds and woodpeckers in the garden from the dining table, and in the early morning you can hear the cayotes howl. Dennis and Christine are interesting and warm people who make you feel just like a friend visiting their home. K&L from Connecticut

The Azure Gate B&B, Tucson, Arizona combined wonderful hospitality, great food and comfortable accommodation for a special get-a-way in the desert. It is well- situated for exploring Tucson proper, as well as walking the many nearby trails through cactus country. For privacy we stayed in one of the two guest houses. It was so nice to wake up late, then dine on a huge gourmet breakfast. The attractive patio around the pool (not heated) was relaxing with many birds to draw the eye. Christine and Dennis are warm and welcoming hosts. A real treat! Thank-you both. Murray and Tanis Vancouver, Canada

I just stayed at the Azure Gate for 3 days on the weekend of Jan 13 and was 100% satisfied. The proprietors, Dennis and Christine, are very friendly folks and I enjoyed chatting with them every morning. The premises are spectacular inside and out, as you can see from their website. But the most amazing part were the breakfasts! I've traveled all over the world for many years and stayed at B&Bs a large percentage of the time, but I have never had better breakfasts than at the Azure Gate. I can think of just one other place where they were about on par with the Azure Gate. Chef and proprietor Dennis told me he was always bored with breakfast growing up and decided that his idea of a good breakfast was a good dinner with an egg on it. One morning we had rack of lamb and gnocchi, with sliced boiled eggs on the lamb. Another morning we had crab cakes with a poached egg on top. The other morning we had a more traditional waffle breakfast, but the waffle was ganished with a truly luscious vegetable and fruit concoction. I know that sounds a little strange but, trust me, it was amazing! And the breakfasts weren't just served, they were presented. Upon serving the breakfast, Chef Dennis would explain exactly how it was prepared, describe the ingredients, the marinades, the sauses, and all the wonderful decorations on the plate (which were also edible). I'll definitely be going back to the Azure Gate and hope you will too. If you're there the weekend of Mar 31, I'll see you there!

Our stay at The Azure Gate B&B was one of the best experiences we’ve had at a B&B. Our hosts, Christine and Dennis were interesting, professional, friendly, helpful, and provided outstanding service, lovely and comfortable accommodations, and a delicious/creative breakfast every morning. We arrived somewhat weary the day after Christmas and when we checked into the Catalina Guest House, we breathed a sigh of pleasure. It was so comfortable and the attention to thoughtful details (coffee, coffee filters, cream in the refrigerator, tea, candy, even a pen and paper) was so appreciated. The grounds/groomed trails were a pleasure to walk through and we could see the Santa Catalina Mountains from our house. Our hosts were knowledgeable about things to see and do in Arizona/Tucson and were very generous with their time to help us when asked. It is thanks to them that we saw our first Sandhill Cranes (not, I realize, on everyone’s top 10 list, but for us, priceless!) In closing, our most memorable meals on this trip were the breakfasts prepared by Dennis; the ambiance of the breakfast room, the service, attention to detail, creativity and thoughtful consideration of food preferences made this a wonderful beginning to each day.

My husband and I recently stayed at The Azure Gate Bed and Breakfast when we were on vacation in Tucson. The Bed and Breakfast were the best part of our vacation! Dennis and Christine were the perfect hosts; personable, accomadating, knowledgable about everything you need to know about Tucson, terrific cooks, and they don't hover. We were able to experience two of the accommodations because we stayed in the Sabino room for two nights and then changed to the Santa Ana Guest House. Both were comfortable, attractive and well maintained. The Guest House has the advantage of being separate from the main house, allowing guests privacy and spaciousness.

We stayed at Azure Gate in the Catalina Guest House for 3 nights - what a fabulous end to our two week trip! So many personal touches that made this B&B stand out from the rest. We were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary and on our arrival we had wine, roses and a card - what a lovely surprise. The Catalina Guest House was very comfortable with lovely views all round with many different places to sit and enjoy the views and wildlife. Dennis and Christine are great hosts and made us very welcome and were always ready with helpful tips for places to visit. The breakfasts have been mentioned many times and they ARE superb and beautifully served and quite unlike any breakfasts we have ever experienced before. We could have easily spent our stay relaxing in the garden enjoying the abundant wildlife and mountain views - there were so many different birds we felt as if we were sitting in an aviary. If we are luckily enough to visit this area again we would definately stay here again.

We live (and own our own business) in Tucson and just had one night to "get away" and celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary. We booked the Catalina Guest House at the Azure Gate and it was truly special. They generally have a two-night minimum, but were able to accomodate us for the one night we had. The Guest House was private, clean and well decorated, with amazing views of the Catalina Mountains. But as wonderful as that was, nothing compared to the delicious breakfast that Dennis prepared for us in the morning. (I'm still dreaming about it!!) He started with fresh blackberries and raspberries sitting in a shallow pool of Canadian maple syrup and lime. Then he made us salmon eggs benedict (minus the egg on mine because I told him when I booked that I didn't like eggs) -- a toasted half a bagel, lightly spread with cream cheese (mixed with red onion, capers, and chives), topped with thinly sliced cucumbers (which provided a perfect slight crunch), then topped with perfectly cooked salmon glazed with mango/chiptole, covered in a scrumptious bearnaise sauce. Of course, my husband's dish had a poached egg on top. The plating was beautiful, garnished with tender-crisp asparagus. Yumm!

Driving through the iron azure gates onto the Widman's property the beauty of the land and home was breathtaking. Everywhere you turned there was something to catch your eye - an old painted urn, a beautiful hand carved gate, a gently flowing fountain, a busy hummingbird darting from a feeder, crystal clear swimming pool and the majestic Catalina Mountains in the not so distant distance. Then it was on to our casita... just lovely. Spacious, tastefully and artfully decorated with a sweet touch of old Mexico throughout. The windows with their unique shapes provided such interesting, ever changing pictures. The little upper deck off our bedroom was a favorite for star gazing before tucking in each night. We loved it! So breakfast - where do I start? Come hungry and be prepared to be amazed at Dennis' culinary work of art. Our table mates brought their camera each morning to capture the plate! You will not be disappointed. The innkeepers, Dennis and Christine open their home and hearts to all who enter. If you are in search of serene desert setting, visits from local wildlife, fabulous food, helpful hosts in a location that touches a spirit deep within, this is your destination. Kathleen & Greg

As a frequent business traveler I used to stay in the chain hotels (Marriott, Hilton, etc...) until I discovered Azure Gate B&B. I have had the priveledge of many business trips to Tucson area and have found the accomodations and staff at the Azure Gate to be the best in the business. It has been a while since my business travels have taken me to Tucson but I am now looking to move there in the not so distant future so when I now come for pleasure trips I stay at the Azure Gate. My husband I received a gift certificate for The Azure Gate B&B four years ago for our wedding. Two children later, we were finally able to take advantage and stayed two nights in the Catalina Casita for our four-year anniversary. It was a much needed time away as a couple, and it was everything we had hoped for. The house, the grounds, and the casita were very beautiful and peaceful. We were able to fully relax in the privacy of our casita, lounge outside, and even enjoy the company of a duck that flew in for a visit. We really enjoyed talking with Dennis and Christine throughout our visit. They are very warm, kind and easy to talk to and share stories. Dennis is a fabulous cook and serves the breakfasts with great presentation. There was always something unique and special about each of the dishes he prepared, and they tasted fabulous! We left there definitely wanting to come back and hope that we can take advantage again soon. By the way... no need to bring along movies to watch. They have a library with a huge movie selection. We were quite impressed! If you read this, thank you Dennis and Christine for a great visit. We left refreshed and rejuvenated.

Azure Gate has become our refuge.... We just completed our 3rd stay here and could go back tomorrow! We are avid birdwatcher's so staying here we know we are always assured of new "life" birds! Although you feel like you're in your own little oasis, it is a great location, close to the mountains, Saguaro National Park and of course lots of birding destinations. The owner's, Dennis & Christine, are two of the most charming, interesting people and they will welcome you to their place and treat you as if you are old friends. They will make your experience one that you will never forget and you will want to come back year after year. This B & B is beautiful with the most enchanting grounds to explore and enjoy. We have stayed in both the Santa Ana and the Catalina and both are charming and uniquely decorated. They are very clean and well appointed with everything you would need or want right down to the cozy, rich terry cloth robes. The beds are so comfortable that you will sleep like a baby! The pool area is very beautiful and relaxing and the main house holds many surprises to enjoy on your own. Now to "Chef" Dennis and his gourmet breakfasts.... For all you foodies out there you will experience a truly delectable delight! Served by candlelight with a stunning table set by Christine, the food and presentation beats any 5 star hotel. Cameras will be clicking so you can remember how every scrumptious bite tasted! We recommend this B & B as it is the "Cream of the Crop" - quite possibly the best in the whole United States. After you experience it yourself, you will always go back.

Dennis and Christine provide the ultimate courtesy while sharing their unique and colorful Tuscon home and garden. Each room is tastefully appointed with the emphasis on comfort and convenience. Sleep comes easily in the desert quiet on a cloud-like comfortable bed. Each morning Christine serves a beautiful fruit starter course to prepare you for Dennis' masterpiece in culinary creativity. Breakfasts will become the highlight of your day. The artful presentation is equalled by the incredible taste. Truly, a not-to-be-missed Tuscon experience.

My wife and I have been to Tucson numerous times on pleasure trips, staying in everything from large 5-star resorts to small B&B's, but I can say without a doubt that the Easter weekend we just spent at the Azure Gate was the best experience we have ever had in Tucson, by far. We love Tucson and now we love the Azure Gate! Dennis and Christine are just the nicest people; they welcome their guests with open arms and open hearts. They have created a real desert oasis - the place is beautiful and extremely comfortable! They gave us great advice for planning our hikes, which included Chiricahua National Monument, a site to behold. They fed us incredible breakfasts - DO NOT MISS THESE! They educated us on the local wildlife and shared Dennis' incredible photography. We even found out that they had once lived in a very small town in Germany near where my ancestors had come from many generations before. We met very nice fellow travelers and enjoyed their company a great deal. It was a perfect long weekend...

Just returned from my ninth stay at Christine and Dennis's magical oasis, the Azure Gate, and can't wait to go back! The lovely hacienda and grounds are home to myriad birds, wildlife, and desert flora, perfect for lounging and peaceful contemplation. Each gourmet breakfast is an artful nourishment, perfect for a day of hiking through nearby deserts and mountains. Believe the rave reviews -- but even better, experience the Azure Gate yourself, for the best stay you'll ever have at a B&B.

Though our trip to Tuscon was last December (2010), we were absolutely delighted with everything about our accommodations at the Azure Gate B & B Dec. 7th, 8th, and 9th! Our hosts, Dennis and Christine went out of their way to warmly welcome us, provide us with numerous tips (all incredibly organized in themed notebooks!) on places to explore and dine in the area, and serve us deliciously prepared and beautifully presented breakfasts! Our room was lovely; artfully decorated as was the rest of the house! Most of all we were made to feel as if The Azure Gate was our home for a few days, complete with it's beautifully decorated rooms and spaces to live, besides just our bedroom. Our stay there was incredibly relaxing and every effort was made to make us feel at home. Dennis and Christine even helped me surprise my husband for his birthday! We couldn't imagine a finer place to stay or better hosts in Tuscon! Robin and Rob

From the moment you make your reservation to the moment you leave, Dennis and Christine make your stay special. Their wonderful home and grounds are there for your use with plenty of areas to relax in and breakfast some mornings by the pool was a rare treat for us. The breakfasts that are prepared by Dennis, with Christine's beautiful table settings were one of the highlights of our stay, good company from other guests, to a great desert setting with so many things to do in the area, made this trip special. Once you have been you just want to keep going back, and we will.

My husband and I frequently stay at B & Bs - domestic and International. The Azure Gate rates as one of our favorite 5. We stayed in the 'Santa Ana' guest house for 4 nights, in February, 2011. There is NOTHING to not like about this place. The location on the outskirts of Tucson is perfect - surrounded by the open desert, yet close to everything you might want to see..... Completely serene and peaceful.... Our "guest house" was perfect - a mini-condo! Living room, kitchenette +, w/ dining area, bath, and loft bedroom. Complete privacy. Tastefully decorated; impeccably clean; great amenities... Dennis and Christine are superb innkeepers, and the heart and soul of this B & B. They are very welcoming and attend to every detail associated w/ your visit. Most intersting folks to converse w/ too. Dennis and Christine's culinary skills are absolutely amazing. As others before us have said, "Breakfast is DINNER". You will be blown away by what is placed on the table for you each morning. Make sure you arrive hungry! There are many B & Bs to choose from in the Tucson area. DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS ONE! It is w/ pleasue that we put our names here- Lynda & Skip Rapp Newfane, VERMONT

The Azure Gate was one of the most amazing B&B's we've ever stayed in. It was our first trip to Tucson and Dennis and Christine were wonderful hosts, always pointing us in the right direction whether it be a local hike or a great dinner. The location is perfect, out of town enough to feel almost rural but only minutes away from restaurants, shopping, and museums. Just a 5 minute ride to Saguaro East and right down the road from MT Lemmon (a must see). Need I mention the unbelievable gourmet breakfasts? All the other folks we met there were repeat visitors, no surprise. If you're going to Tucson and don't want to stay "in town" then this is the place for you. Outstanding is the right word. This B&B is an absolute gem! We stayed there for 5 nights on a brief hiking trip and found that all the rave reviews were right on target. The rooms are immaculate, the setting is lovely and peaceful, and the owners, Dennis and Christine, are without equal. They are warm and gracious, and truly make guests feel at home. They know the area exceedingly well and are happy to help you find hikes, drives, museums, restaurants, etc., or leave you alone to enjoy their home and gardens. They have a complete collection of brochures and pamphlets on sights and things to do in the area, complete with directions, and an astonishing collection of DVD’s should you opt for a quiet evening in. And the breakfasts are worthy of 5 stars: absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Take loose clothing and enjoy!!

The property is wonderful with great facilities and the large yummy gourmet breakfast set us up till our evening meal. The Widmans are great hosts ,are so organised and provide vital information to make the stay really enjoyable. We have stayed at the Azure Gate for a week in February each of the last three years and have reserved a room for a fourth February in 2012. Everything superlative you have read about the hosts, the Azure Gate and its grounds, the breakfasts!, and the location are true. And this year's weather--sunny and 70 to 80 degrees every day--was perfect. This is the perfect location for your winter break!

This is a fabulous b & b run by two terrific people. The setting is beautiful, the snacks unbeatable but watch your waistline, and the breakfasts gourmet to the nth degree. Dennis and Christine are fabulous hosts pulling out no stops to make your visit unforgettable and agreeable to almost any request. They are extremely knowledgeable about the local and not so local environs being able to recommend hikes, shopping, etc and my only hesitancy about recommending it without reservation is that it may make it more difficult for us to get reservations in the future

My partner and I stayed at the Azure Gate for a week of hiking by day, sunny and glorious weather, and a delightful pampering that included ironed sheets and designer breakfasst. When you get out your camera to photograph the plate, you know that you are in heaven and one taste confirms it. All around the area are desert parks for every hiking level. We spent two afternoons at Saguaro West and another day driving up into the mountains to the ski area with vistas to die for. Many good restaurants are in the area, and Christine and Dennis have thoughtfully provided sheets of directions. Their library and pamphlet collection will steer you whereever you want to go: nature, shopping, museums, puebloan ruins. The huge adobe home, its outbuildings, and grounds are convenient to the city but just far enough out for total quiet and a dark night sky full of stars. One evening we were treated to a javelina run around the house. Little touches like bowls of candy, fruit, and home-baked cookies and cake for a snack make this place way better than any hotel I've ever stayed. If this isn't the Southwest's premier guesthouse, I don't know what is. You will arrive as guests and leave as friends

We really enjoyed our stay at Azure Gate. The grounds and pool area are very nice to walk or just relax. The innkeepers did every thing possible for us. The Breakfasts were extraordinary. Dennis and Christine Widman are quite attentive hosts, making a stay at the Azure Gate memorable and satisfying to the soul. The service they provide is beyond compare, they always want the guest to have the best experience possible. The B & B is set amidst a lush desert landscape, where the guests are free to roam, as does the local wildlife. Sitting by the bird feeders in the back of the B & B is both relaxing and stimulating, as hummingbirds show their colors and quail, finches and other local residents come by at dawn and dusk to graze. The modestly sized room I stayed in, within the main house, had a western feel- complete with saddle decoration. They have a comprehensive DVD/VCR tape library where you can pick out evening entertainment if you so choose. By far the most elaborate and enticing part I looked forward to was the breakfast. Christine is in charge of the fruit first course- slightly sweet, delightful and elegantly presented. Dennis prepares the main part of the meal- something gourmet with a southwest splash that has his unique stamp on it. Sometimes a blue crab cake garnished with poached egg, corn salsa and a saguaro made out of guacamole. Or maybe an omelet filled with 3 kinds of mushrooms and a little gruyere cheese with a country hash on the side. All breakfasts are served on a lovingly set table loaded with different colors and decorated differently each day. A stay at the Azure Gate makes me feel spoiled in the best sense.

Food unbelievable. Example; swordfish for breakfast!! The Widmans are wonderful people and wonderful hosts; very welcoming and generous with information and advice. Lots of books and an incredible video library; plus all the literature anyone could want about local attractions of all kinds. And we met really nice people around the breakfast table.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Azure Gate, where Dennis and Christine made everyone feel very much at home. The other guests were also fun to meet over breakfast and we had great conversations over the excellent food, prepared quite uniquely and expertly by Dennis each morning. If you love the Sonoran Desert, this B&B is a great choice, as the Azure Gate is situated on its own patch of desert and is close to several trailheads on the eastern end of Tucson.

Our stay at the Azure Gate was the best of many excellent B&B experiences. Azure Gate is a beautiful B&B, located on 5 acres of Sonoran desert, conveniently located in NE Tucson. Our innkeepers, Dennis and Christine Widman, were so personable and helpful that after our 4-day stay, we wished we had more time to become better acquainted. Dennis and Christine were available, but unobtrusive, a hosting style made possible, in part, by their anticipation and provision of guests’ needs/wants in advance of their arrival. The Santa Ana suite, where we stayed, had a downstairs living room, kitchenette, and bath, with an upstairs sleeping loft (with a very comfortable bed and wonderful views of the Catalina Mountains). On first inspection, we discovered wine and glasses on our table, a refrigerator stocked with juices, teas, and cream for coffee, and cabinets that contained a variety of teas, coffee beans, grinder, and tea and coffee makers, in addition to the usual supplies one might expect. Our bath contained spa robes for cool mornings. The décor was very pleasant, and the furniture was attractive, comfortable, and functional. We had a private entrance, which had its own patio area and bistro set, and a second entrance opened onto the delightful enclosed courtyard with a pool, beautiful landscaping and lots of visiting hummingbirds and gambel quail. Planning our day was simplified by the large, organized binders containing restaurant recommendations, menus, local attractions, and removable driving directions for each destination. Dennis is a gourmet chef, and our breakfasts were not only delicious, but beautifully presented. (We repeatedly cancelled lunch plans because we were never hungry before mid-afternoon.) We would highly recommend Azure Gate to anyone seeking a fabulous B&B experience in Tucson.

This is our second trip and happily we were able to stay a full week this time. The birds chirp, the jack rabbits hop by and the Santa Catalina Mountains hover over the saquaro-dotted landscape. The Azure Gate is so peaceful; it’s perfect for a relaxing break from the “real” world. We stayed in the Santa Ana Guest House during both visits. The guest house has a private patio and entrance. It’s just like having your own cottage attached to the main building. There is a loft bedroom and a comfortable sitting area as well as a furnished kitchenette. Although, with Dennis cooking his phenomenal breakfasts, one doesn’t need the kitchen facilities much. Christine and Dennis, the innkeepers, are super great folks. We felt like we were part of the family as we enjoyed the delightful morning conversations and the helpful suggestions for sightseeing and restaurants. Without a doubt, the best B&B we’ve ever stayed in. We hope to return again……………

We relaxed totally and enjoyed the amazing peace, food, wildlife, landscaping, art, local sights, sunsets, conversation and kindness that abound at this magical place. Dennis and Christine Widman are wonderful hosts, helping you to enjoy everything about this place they love and the Tucson area. The surrounding environment is not the dry desert we expected...this place is lush and verdant--don't miss a nearby park with pond and palm trees--Aqua Caliente--a beautiful oasis. Turtles, owls and many other birds. Just walking in Azure Gate's "neighborhood" is also a treasure. We've already planned a return trip next Spring when the cactus are in bloom. Such beauty.

I stayed at the Azure Gate to help unwind and get some relief from pressures of work and personal life. Mission accomplished! Natural desert landscape, mountian views, absence of city life appreciated. The Southwestern breakfasts exceeded expectations. The owner is a true chef and takes pride in his work.

Fantastic hosts. D&C provide just the right amount of non-intrusiveness and "being there" when you need them. The grounds will especially appeal to artist souls as the surroundings have a bit of art in just about every corner (and non-corner). I loved the creativity. From the patio, where we had our breakfast each morning, we could watch the wildlife skitter though the cacti with the Catalina Mountains as backdrop. If you ignore the unfortunate placement of some power lines between the property and the mountains you will feel as if you are living in a remote part of the desert. Your greatest fear will be that at least one of the myriad birds singing and flying about overhead will splat you or your coffee. Watch out! A small "herd" of Javelinas (small wild-pig-thingies) descended on the property one afternoon and roamed about munching at cactus. We walked about in the small cactus forest surrounding the house--there are plenty of "trails" but we usually found a bit of cactus spines in our shoes once we returned. In May the cacti were blossoming! The property is just the right distance from the city of Tucson so that you can easily get to restaurants and activities while feeling remote at the same time. The accommodations were really great. We arrived to a fridge stocked with cold drinks (you will find yourself drinking a lot of fluid in this climate). Everything was neat and clean. We opted out of the breakfasts (you get a discount for doing so) because we like to have the option of sleeping late and prefer very simple breakfasts to the gourmet options provided--so have no opinions to offer with respect to the quality of the meals. If we should choose to return to Tucson in the future (we were there for one week and did not see everything we'd have liked) we would stay here again without hesitation.

If you are going to be in Tucson, do yourself a favour and try to get a reservation at the Azure Gate B&B. The Azure Gate is situated in a wonderful residential area just outside the Tucson city limits. Staying at this B & B is like coming home to quiet solitude and relaxation after a busy day of seeing the sights. Dennis and Christine are the type of hosts that make visiting Tucson a joy. You will want to keep coming back to stay with them. And the breakfasts are to die for. We were lucky enough to find the Azure Gate B & B four years ago and have been coming back every year since.

Situated on the eastern edge of Tucson, Azure Gate is an incredible place to stay. The rooms and cottages are beautiful and comfortable. This was our fourth trip back, and our first time to stay at the Catalina Guest House. It was spacious, comfortable and had so many outside options for seating. It had everything we needed to make us comfortable and then some. The breakfasts that Dennis and Christine prepare are to die for. My husband and I return to the Azure Gate every February as our first stop in Arizona in our effort to escape the long, cold Wisconsin winter. We have been to many other B&Bs but the Azure Gate always ranks number one. The location is perfect, just off the Catalina Highway, with Mt. Lemon and Saguaro National Park within easy driving distance, and excellent restaurants are near by. Dennis and Christine love what they do which is immediately apparent in the ambience of the place. One can simply relax, walk the grounds (five acres), watch wildlife, select a DVD (There are many hundreds to choose from and each accommodation has a TV/DVD player). However, most spectacular are the breakfasts served at 9:00. Dennis, a first rate chef, will serve "anything you can put an egg on top." Thai, southwest and French cuisine are just a few of the "tastes" you experience. It is not at all unusual for a guest to run back to get a camera to take a picture before taking the first bite. Christine is responsible for a fruit course which is always out of the ordinary (something you'd never make at home). What a way to start the day! Another benefit to the Azure Gate is the amount of information Dennis and Christine can provide about places to go, hikes to take, things to do, restaurants to try, etc. For instance, they have compiled ring binders of information which include menus, descriptions, as well as driving distances and directions. We guarantee that you will find the Azure Gate the standard by which other B&Bs are judged.

On our first visit to Tucson we discovered an unexpected highlight when we reached Azure Gate. While we have stayed in many excellent B&B's around the country, Azure Gate was in a class by itself. Dennis and Christine were perfect hosts. They answered all inquiries, suggested other activities that we might like, including restaurants, and provided precise instructions on how to get to activities and sites. Located near Mt Lemon, Sabino Canyon and Saguro NP Azure Gate provided an oasis of calm after a day of hiking and sightseeing. In three days I saw as many variety of birds on their 5 acres of desert as I saw anywhere. My wife, a retired elementary teacher enjoyed meeting Christine whose books she had used in her classes. Then there were the gourmet breakfasts prepared and presented by Dennis. They were simply elegant in every aspect. We will return to Tucson soon but will plan or trip only after we had booked at the Azure Gate. That explains how totally satisfied we were with Azure Gate, its grounds, the home's inviting decor and, most important, meeting and getting to know Dennis and Christine. Leaving the cold winter of Madison, WI we came to an oasis in the desert.

Both my wife I enjoyed 6 fabulous days at the Azure Gate B & B during the 1st week of Feb 2010. As a result of a last minute cancellation we were fortunate to serure lodging at this highly acclaimed Bed & Breakfast. Our hosts Dennis & Christine are one of the most charming, talented and accommodating people you will ever meet. I can't wait for Dennis to publish his breakfast cookbook. I am going to miss our early morning conversations with Dennis and Christine while they were preparing breakfast for their guests. The accommodations were outstanding and the location was both close enough to be a short drive from downtown and far enough to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Tucson desert. Delightful hosts generally attract friendly and delightful guests as well. During our stay the other guests were no exception. This made our stay even more enjoyable for my wife and me. My wife was overshelmed with the local Gem show while I enjoyed exploring the local golf courses. Breakfast was a time when we shared our adventures and recommendations of the day before and discussed our plans for the current day. We had a wonderful trip to Tucson and enjoyed our two nights at the Azure Gate. The accommodation (Catalina House) was spotless and full of all the small details that make a B&B truly stand out (cream for coffee, biscotti, sodas, fluffy robes, videos, books, hiking trails). Dennis + Christine were able to deftly point us to great hikes with great driving directions and served us truly gourmet breakfasts. I would recommend this B&B highly to anyone.

I did the research and booked into the Azure Gate B&B about 9 months in advance. We really wanted to stay in the Catalina House and we are so pleased we did. It was a self-contained casita sitting in the cactus-strewn grounds with views of the Catalina Mountains which had snow on them when we visited in December 2009 for 4 days. We had a wonderful time. The Catalina House came with a fully equipped eat-in kitchen, bathroom and lounge downstairs and cozy open bedroom upstairs. We are not breakfast people so we did miss out on the wonderful offerings Dennis created every morning in the main house but we did enjoy our early morning outings to the various attractions, Sabino Canyon, Mt. Lemon and Saguaro National Forest in particular. Nothing is very far away and there are even shops and restaurants within a few minutes drive. Like all treasures you find, you want to keep some a secret and that’s how we feel about the Azure Gate B & B. It was a real treasure to find it; we’ll certainly be back.

We stay at B&B's where ever we travel and we've never had breakfasts that have come anywhere close to the quality of the cuisine at Azure Gate. Innkeepers Dennis & Christine are amazing. They have thought of every detail. Very impressive and an incredible value. We will return.

We love this Bed and Breakfast and its owners, Dennis and Christine. We always sleep so well and the breakfasts are fabulous. Even more, the inn is well located, near lots of great hiking and in a lovely area of Tucson. It's such a delight to return here.

My wife and I are birders, travel a good across the country in that pursuit, and prefer B&Bs to hotels. Our favorite stay in that pursuit over the years has been The Azure Gate, from its delightful and abundant fauna, to the gorgeously presented breakfasts. Most of all, we have come to treasure our friendship with sparkling and talented owners, Christine and Dennis Widman. You can't go wrong here.

This is an exceptional B&B. After staying in Tucson hotels a couple of times we discovered The Azure Gate. It is now the only place we stay when we are in Tucson twice a year to visit the grandchildren. The facility (multiple buildings, pool, and extensive grounds) is simply beautiful: colorfully appointed, kind attention to homey details, comfy and relaxed. Dennis and Christine are friendly, attentive, and helpful always making our stay there and our time in the area enjoyable. They know the best places and the B&B is not far from anywhere we might want to go in Tucson. The breakfast is very tasty, beautifully presented, made of the freshest ingredients and with surprising and successful innovations. Early morning walks around the hills of the neighborhood are a real pleasure. Local fauna wander near-by while the many on-site bird feeders attract an interesting assortment. Even with all this The Azure Gate is a real value. Highly recommended.

If you are heading for a visit to Tuscon, the place to stay is the Azure Gate B & B. When you visit southern Arizona, you will be in the Sonoran Desert, and the Azure Gate is IN the desert--not at the side of a speeding highway, and not in the bustle of downtown. This haven of desert could not be more welcoming. Dwellings that look "at home" on the Southwestern sand and hills tend to wear a coat of stucco and are painted buff, or in this case, pink, with (of course) azure trim. After you drive through the gate to the recessed front entrance, you'll find Dennis and Christine Widman the enthusiastic inn keepers. As you walk into their hallway, the interior rooms open into each other, featuring tile floors with original artworks on the walls, nooks, and corners. There is a large collection of books and movies to enjoy in leisure moments, as well as children’s books that Christine authored and Dennis' stunning close up photos of birds and local plants and fauna. The views over the garden walls, in the rambling gardens, and through the picture windows are lushly filled with dramatic desert plants, and the surrounding Catalina mountains are on the northern horizon. And the breakfasts! You didn't know that breakfast can be a three course start for the day, each one exquisitely presented, and the concluding entrée will be a chief’s masterpiece! The variety of dishes that Dennis and Christine prepare is unbelievable, and if you need a special Gluten-free or lactose free diet, that is simply another interesting challenge for the inspired cooks. The setting, on the northeastern corner of Tuscon, is ideal for many attractions. But the Azure Gate is one of them--a real home, with wonderful host/ proprietors. It is an accommodation you will be lucky to book

Ah, the Azure Gate. My husband and I happily stayed there recently for nine days. The delightful innkeepers, Dennis and Christine, were welcoming, knowledgeable and thoughtfully helpful. We stayed in the Sabino and Saguaro rooms, each lovely in its own way. The rooms and beds were so comfortable and beautifully appointed. The Inn does not impose on the desert; it's part of it in its appealing architecture and harmony with the surrounding plant and animal life. Every morning we were treated to such exquisite and delicious breakfasts that the guests all took photographs so we could "have our cake and eat it too". Some mornings or early evenings we would sit by the clean blue patio pool and read or watch the extraordinary "bird show", snacking on ripe guavas right off the trees. With the Azure Gate as our home base we made forays into Tucson for art, gardens, museums, mariachis, or the spring training baseball games. We were close to the desert national park and the mountains for hiking, close to the stars, the fragrant, pure desert mornings, and away from city traffic noise. We enjoyed our stay there immensely and will return at the first opportunity. We arrived tired and depleted and were restored by our stay; I have no higher praise for a bed and breakfast experience.

We have stayed three times and each visit has been a highlight of our year. We unwind from a hectic life almost immediately upon checking in. Peaceful natural desert surrounding and minutes from downtown. Dennis and Christine are kind and welcoming hosts - and Dennis is a great breakfast cook!

This has become our home away from home. Since we found this gem of an oasis several years ago, we continue to come back when in Tucson. Superb service by Dennis and Christine just add to the ambiance one experiences when they walk through the Azure Gate. Why spend time in a hotel when you can have your very own 'home' to relax in? You will find ways to find your way back here, once you've experienced the Azure Gate's charm!

Over a period of 50 years we have had much experience of B & B's and we have rated them according to the service and pleasure that they provided us. For a number of years the top one for us has been the "Fair Winds" at Morar , Scotland , but after this week it has to be relegated to second place in order to give premier position to Azure Gate. We chose Azure Gate from a survey of accommodation websites for Southern Arizona. We felt that it would meet our interests in birdwatching and photography. Our experience has been that it has more than fulfilled our expectations. We were particularly impressed by the quality and presentations of the food. It is a new and welcoming gesture to have our hosts explain the ingredients and preparation ---- indeed a NOVEL CORDON BLEU expression of hospitality. If ever we were to be back in Southern Arizona we would not hestate to rebook. We shall delight in telling others of the experience that we enjoyed at Azure Gate . Anne and Andrew Greig , Scotland .

I took my Wife to the Azure gate for her 50th Birthday in October of this year. It is the second time we have stayed with Christine and Dennis. We stayed in the Catalina Guest House which is a separate building to the rest of the house. As before the stay was superb and the food for breakfast was great. Dennis takes a lot of time and effort over his cooking and likes to explain what you are eating and how it was prepared. We love the desert but don't want to go into Tucson except to shop. The local road system in the area will get you around without having to venture into the Tucson city centre. The Azure gate has a large desert garden and has a Bobcat that comes to visit somedays, it didn't make an appearance whilst we were there, more the pity. Dennis is a wildlife photographer and is only to happy to talk about his adventures in the wilderness. Christine is a lovely person and is only to willing to help with local visits and advice. Overall if my wife and I were to go and live in the states we would pick the outer Tucson area and the Azure gate is the sort of life style we would choose. Even in the winter months the weather is great. Long live the Azure Gate. Ken & Eleanor Wood, England

Wow, what an amazing place. My wife and I have stayed at the Azure Gate a bunch of times now and it is our favorite place to stay in all of Arizona. We have visited many BNBs and fine hotels over the years so that is saying a lot. The rooms are so comfortable and beautiful. The Azure Gate is located in East Tucson at the road leading up to Mount Lemmon. It is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and mountains. The rooms are very private and if you feel like looking around you can go into the main guest house. They have lovely places to sit and relax, with music, a book, music, video library, play a nice game of chess, etc. Dennis and Christine are the most amazing people and make you feel right at home…..and if you are a foodie prepare to be IMPRESSED. Their breakfast could not be surpassed at the finest gourmet hot spot. Just outside the main house is a beautiful oasis with swimming pool and lounge chairs to catch in the sun. Surrounded by plants and animals you feel a deep tranquil feeling. The guest houses are amazing as well…everything is very modern, clean, beautiful. Tucson offers great shopping, dinning and entertainment. Some of the old town galleries on Tanque Verde are a great time and our favorite dinner spot is called the dish (wine bar with great food). You are also right by Mount Lemon. By itself it is a scenic drive and you can go up to Summer Heaven for a fun day trip. There are a ton of trails and hikes as well. Sabino Canyon is nearby and is another great day trip during your stay at the Azure. We live in Phoenix and taking the drive is also part of the fun. We take 60 Towards Globe and then catch 79 South through Florence. It takes about the same amount of time and is very pretty. You may also want to catch Biosphere 2 or catch one of the huge caves in Southern AZ. Take our word for it, this place is the best gift you could possibly give yourself. Have fun!

The Azure Gate has been our best travel experience, by far, and we come back every year. Dennis and Christine are wonderful, the breakfasts are off-the-charts excellent, and the location is perfect for access to the day hiking areas we love in Tucson. If you're in Tucson for the outdoor activities, you can't do better than this!

It’s a pleasure to return to the Azure Gate, and difficult to leave. This oasis allows us to recharge and explore the wonderful surroundings. Our favorite is the cactus forest at Saguaro East, but the Catalinas, the Tucsons and the Rincons beckon us as well. After 7 visits we still haven’t seen and done everything. See you next year!

Once or twice a year, I visit the Azure Gate to rest and recharge. Christine and Dennis are the perfect stewards of this magical oasis, which is home to myriad birds and wildlife, and resplendent with desert flora. Whether you're lounging in your room (or one of the two guest houses), enjoying a scrumptious breakfast on the patio or strolling about the grounds, there's always something beautiful to catch your eye. Nearby you'll find Sabino Canyon, Saguaro National Park, Mt. Lemmon, and more ... and Dennis and Christine are always glad to share their recommendations for hiking, dining, shopping, and other local interests. It's close to Tucson proper, U of A and the Centro, but far enough from the bustle to feel like a real respite. Because I always find it hard to leave, I reserve my next stay when I check out! Truly a little bit of heaven on earth.

We have stayed at Azure Gate three times and will book again in 2010. The innkeepers,Dennis and Christine Widman, are very friendly and knowledgeable about Tucson, especially the sites, the museums, and good restaurants. They have helpful guides for all of these and movie theaters as well. We consider the breakfasts to be so superb that only one other meal is necessary per day. The other guests at breakfast are very interesting. In addition, Azure Gate has an extensive library of DVDs and Tapes as well as great books to read. WE have been vacationing in Tucson for more than thirty years, and Azure Gate has our highest recommendation. Don't miss it!

My husband & I had the pleasure of staying in the Catalina Guest House for a week and we loved everything about it - the decor was lovely, the kitchen well-appointed and the bed very comfortable. My favorite part was the patio with the view into the desert with the mountains beyond. I sat there every morning with my cup of tea and spy glasses bird watching and enjoying the morning sunlight. And then, of course, there are Denise's famous breakfasts! Words like amazing, wonderful, inventive and sumptuous don't even come close - you have to taste them for yourself! Although we'd done some research ahead of time about places to hike, Denis & Christine were able to help us find just the right places, beautiful and a bit challenging but not too taxing - we were after all on vacation. I have already recommend the Azure Gate to everyone I know and I hope this review helps others decide to stay there too.

There is a good reason The Azure Gate is booked 12 months in advance. And their names are Dennis and Christine. Dennis and Christine have made this quaint little B&B in the foothills of the Sanata Catalina Mountains truly memorable. My wife and I have been staying at the AG for the past 4 years and each year I look forward to turning onto East Morrill Way because I know for the next 4 days I am going to be relaxed and well fed. We love The Azure Gate because it is close enough to downtown to catch a movie, but far enough out to still see the stars at night (there are tons). The rooms are perfectly appointed with locate artifacts and the grounds are tucked into the landscape so you feel comply secluded from the world. And then there are the breakfasts! Oh my god the Breakfasts! If you live within a 700 mile radius of Tucson, you should be in your car right now, driving to get tomorrow’s breakfast. I am not sure what Dennis did in his previous life, but I think he actually might be Julia Childs…on steriods. If you are staying in Tucson, you should be staying at The Azure Gate.

We have found our happy place. The place where we remember who we are and what we love. Our second spring here resonated with joy in our memories. C hristine and Dennis thought of every detail to make us feel welcome and pampered. Dean loved the lemon cake made from the lemons from an Azure Gate lemon tree. We'll be be back. Sharon and Dean

The Azure Gate has dropped from the sky to nourish the human spirits that pass through, like a jewel that softly glows in the sun. Its gates have opened to us and here we have found laughter, superb artistry, and an exquisite sensory experience in Dennis' morning nourishment. Thanks to suggestions by Dennis & Christine, we have experienced so much of the land's gifts here - Texas Canyon, Saguaro Park where a congregation of saguaros welcomed us, a night under the stars at the top of Kitt's Peak, & the earthy organic dwelling of De Grazia. We are grateful to Dennis & Christine for sharing this sanctuary with us. Deborah & Mark

2.23.07 - This place is the best! Having never been to the Southwest before, we feel blessed to have stumbled upon this haven. We've loved every minute of it and have talked of nothing else but when we can return! We are grateful to Dennis & Christine for sharing ---everything ---their stories, their talents, their home. We'll be back! Anne & Bob Connecticut

We've been to many bed and breakfasts all over the country and Azure Gate is, without a doubt, the loveliest, cleanest, most welcoming of them all. The hosts, Dennis and Christine, are fun-loving, warm, and talented. They make guests feel like family. What's more, they're very helpful and available to share information about the area, which they know exceedingly well. All information is beautifully organized and explained. Last but certainly not least is the remarkable food. Breakfast is a feast of fresh and delicious foods, made with care and creativity. There are always wonderful home baked goods, along with a variety of snacks, cold drinks, teas, and coffee available in the beautiful chef's kitchen. There's no place we'd rather stay than Azure Gate Bed and Breakfast when we're in the southwest. We've been many times and plan to go back many more. Susan and Steve

"The Azure Gate is a one-of-a-kind retreat in the beautiful Tucson desert. With the mountains, the vegetation, the wildlife and the spirit of the desert; this bed and breakfast is a haven to the heart. Every detail extends a gracious caring & respect for nature. The owners’ love of their precious home is obvious at every turn and the joy they communicate in sharing their lovely sanctuary with their guests feels like a warm, wonderful embrace. From the thrill of awakening in the loft of the Santa Ana and experiencing the breathtaking view of the four mountain ranges that encircle the property, to Dennis' exquisite culinary talents...the offerings of the Azure Gate are without limit and beyond verbal description. The level of graciousness and generosity of spirit with which the innkeepers operate their business is an art that for the most part has been lost in this day and age. It is impossible to miss that they truly care about their guests! Just a few days at the beautiful Azure Gate and I felt renewed, re-energized, re-focused and deeply touched by the Widmans’ dedication to creating an environment that is warm, welcoming and transporting to a kinder, gentler world. The Azure Gate is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that thankfully, doesn’t have to be experienced only once!

Couldn't ask for a better way to get into the wilderness. Quiet, located minutes from the mountains and parks, full of dessert animals and birds. Breakfast alone is worth the price. The Owner seems to delight in satisfying every dietary need and variety.
