Beaumont Inn Mint Julep: Beverage

Step 1:

In saucepan, put equal parts white sugar and water. Bring to boil stirring until sugar dissolves. Once boil is reached, turn down heat, add generous handful of fresh mint. Allow mint to rest in simple syrup. After 20-30 minutes when simple syrup has cooled, strain mint from simple syrup.

Step 2:

For mint julep, fill Collins glass with ice. Pack as much ice as possilbe. Traditional recipe calls for crushed ice which you can do in a towel with a wooden mallet or muddler. Traditional recipe calls for 2 parts Bourbon to 1 part Simple Syrup, we usually use 1 to 1. Add 2 oz. bourbon to iced glass, 2 oz. Simple Syrup. Add fresh mint spring and sturdy straw. Stir with straw, crushing mint sprig, and sip slowly.
