Port Washington Inn Gingerbread Cookies: Dessert

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup soft shortening

  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1 1/2 cups dark molasses

  • 2/3 cup cold water

  • 6 cups flour (I use unbleached)

  • 2 teaspoons soda

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon allspice

  • 1 teaspoon ginger

  • 1 teaspoon cloves

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Step 1:

Mix shortening, brown sugar, and molasses thoroughly.

Step 2:

Stir in water.

Step 3:

Measure flour; stir in soda, salt, and spices.

Step 4:

Add dry ingredients to moist ingredients; blend thoroughly.

Step 5:

Chill dough so it will be easy to handle. This dough is espcially nice to work with and highly recommended for young cookie makers!
