Grant Street Inn

  • Inn Details

Our main house was built in the 1890s by William P. Rogers, Dean of the IU Law School. The house, subsequently owned by local businessmen including William N. Showers of Showers Brothers Furniture factory and William Graham of the Graham Hotel, served as both a private and student residence until 1990. At that time, the house (then known as the Ziegler house) was moved to its present location to become the centerpiece of the Grant Street Inn.

My company used Grant Street to celebrate our yearly holiday party. We rented most of the rooms in the main house and had dinner catered into the dining room. EVERYONE at Grant Street (especially Brenda) was extremely accommodating and made our experience over the top. The holiday decorations were gorgeous (both the ones they had and what they did for our dinner), the rooms were all different and lovely and brunch the next morning was yummy. We even woke up to snow! Such a nice touch to start the holidays!

My wife and I stayed at the Grant Street Inn when we were taking our son to IU to visit the school. It came highly recommended. So, we stayed two nights and were very satisfied. It was like we were staying at a friend's house; with all the hospitality and comforts of home. We decided that when we would come to visit the school again, we would stay at the Inn again. When we checked on the dates, (Nov 1-Nov3) the Inn was already booked. So we made alternate reservations somewhere else. At the last minute, I took a chance to see if there were any cancellations. Lo and behold... there were. I cancelled my reservations at the other place and reserved the room at the Inn. We got lucky and are staying there again the weekend of Nov 1-3...parents' weekend. We are very happy and look ing forward to another incredible stay at one of our favorite places...the Grant Street Inn.

    Innkeeper Response
We are so pleased to have another Indiana University family who has found the Grant Street Inn to be their home away from home while their son attends IU. We look forward to having you join us for, at least, the next four years!!

I've recently had the pleasure of spending more than a week at the Grant Street Inn for a business trip. The place was clean and very well decorated (I even took pics for remodeling inspiration). The breakfast was excellent (especially the roasted potatoes), but I wish they had ketchup along w/ the other condiments (my sole gripe for this inn :) ). I'm sure they would have given me some ketchup if I asked, but I didn't want to bother them. Kirkwood, a major street w/ a lot of food choices is about a 5 minute walk away, and downtown is about a 10 minute walk away. The staff is extremely friendly, and I had interesting conversations w/ several of them. The Bloomington Shuttle (IND airport shuttle) stop was at the IU Memorial Union, which is about a easy 10 minute walk w/ (not much) luggage and on the same street as the GSI. FYI, not all rooms are furnished identically, so be sure to check that the room has what you need/want in a room. My room didn't come w/ a desk, and I was fortunate enough that there was another room w/ a desk available. I've stayed in other small establishments before, and my advice for places like this is to reserve early to ensure that you don't have to switch rooms (unless you want to). I extended my stay at the last moment before a busy weekend, so I had to switch rooms. They were kind enough to move my luggage for me and have it waiting in my new room when I returned from work. I'll definitely return to the Grant Street Inn in the future.

We are so pleased that you found the Grant Street Inn to your liking and I thank you for the wonderful review and advertisement. Don't ever hesitate to ask for ketchup...or anything else you need; it would be our pleasure to get it for you!! Thank you, again!

Each year I stay at the Grant Street Inn at least once for business reasons. I don't even consider staying elsewhere because I'm always more than satisfied with Grant Street. The rooms are indivdually tastefully decorated and comfortable. The included homemade breakfast items are outstanding.

    Innkeeper Response
We are so pleased that, as a business traveler, we are able to make you feel you have a home on the road. Being a B&B, we cannot always convince business travelers that we are the place for them....THANK YOU for giving us that boost!!

Great location, fabulous breakfasts and wonderful room decor - we'd stay here again in a heartbeat! I lived a few blocks away as a college student and always wanted to return there after graduation and finding a 'real' job - we were not disappointed in the least and spent a great weekend at Grant Street Inn. I was even pleasantly surprised to receive a recipe in the mail a few weeks later from the owners. We picked a room without a jacuzzi but with a fireplace. The bed was a bit high for me but it was very comfortable. There wasn't a game that weekend so they weren't crowded. Also, the campus, Kirkwood Ave., and the square were just a few blocks away so we didn't need to drive.
